Flashing with one-clock started, it said that setting up .pit file and then averything stopped.
I was waiting for 20 minutes it didn't finish flashing.
When I turned phone on I saw phone-comp logo.
Went back to Download mode, got 512.pit file, opened odin and tried to do repartition. same result.
HELP PLZ!
With odin open and your usb cable ready to plug in take out the battery from your phone. Then put it back in. Then very quickly hold the both volume buttons down and plug the usb cable in. You will enter download mode and odin will recognize it.
Quick suggestion. Use odin one click to flash back to stock and do a master clear or you will continue having issues.

I did the same the other day. Blamed the tiredness. To repair I flashed jpo with odin with 512 pit, pda, phone and csc files and re partition ticked. Then updated to jpy, installed custom kernel and away you go.
If you're going to flash with pit files and re partition you must also have the pda, phone and csc files. Or so I read. Worked for me anyway. As long as you have three button recovery and can access download mode you'll be fine.

Bricked + Stcuk at download screen
Hello guys,
So i created a really messy situation for me. I flashed a lot of ics rom's and was not happy with any of them so was trying to odin back to gb stock rom and flash my old gb custom rom but the odin on pc got stuck at "Getting pit details " and phone was at 1/10 the progress bar..it stuck there for abt 10mins and i decided it's not going anywhere and stuck so i pulled the cable and the phone was hard-bricked. it was not responding to anything. Surprisingly enough in morning i was able to get into download mode but now when i try to flash from odin it get's stuck at "Setup connection" and just stays there. Any Ideas ?
Edit: The phone gets detected in windows and drivers get installed but adb says unknown. or device not found for any commands that i try
Edit #2 :Flashed a Md5 i had and the phone booted into recovery giving all sorts of error E:/data not found and sorts. Not sure what i can do ahead. The odin all in one package get stuck at Setting pit file
See this... Captivate Connection Issues...
And u may need to try a Heimdall One Click if the Odin doesn't work after seeing the thread above.

Bud thanxx for the reply i just fixed it
had an old package of I9000 lying in the comp...used the pda first to fix the filesystem then used all pit, phone, pda, the last package and the phone took it...now i am back to my custom gb f/w yeah i was considering Heimdall but playing around somewhat with odin worked
Good deal.
Some Captivates do not like the One Clicks, but will accept the flashing of the Firmware through the regular Odin.

Hey everyone. I looked around the forums for a situation similar to mine, and didn't find a case exactly the same as mine, though it's possible I missed something. Basically, my little sister said her captivate was randomly shutting down lately, so I decided to root it for her. I rooted my own HTC Inspire this summer with no problems, so I figured I should be able to do it. The root went just fine, but when I tried to get into 3 button recovery mode, it wasn't working. I had read some stuff (obviously not well enough) and read somewhere to install the speedmod kernel. Now I'm stuck in a boot loop and can't get off of the Galaxy S/SGH-I897/SAMSUNG screen. I tried to go into download mode, but now I can't get into that mode either. Any ideas? I read on the forums about making a JIG, and I might have to end up doing that, but if I can avoid it, I'd like to. Thanks in advance.
Depending on what stock rom u were on before that flash of the speedmod kernel, it may not boot ur phone, because i believe it was froyo based. And if u got it from TRusselo's Guide thread it was there just so u could use it to reboot into cwm recovery and flash a dev rom. Have u tried holding both volume up and down & power buttons together until u see the at&t screen and then releasing the buttons ?? That should boot u into cwm. And from there u can flash a dev rom.
Download mode is--phone off, hold volume down, insert micro usb end of cable into phone, having already opened Odin or Heimdall and usb end of cable already connected to pc. Or of course, jig will do the trick for ya.
U could also try flashin an appropriate kernel for ur firmware u r on --- stock or dev'd. But u will need to still get into download or recovery for that. But i would think u should be able to boot up with no probs with a correct kernel.

I did manage to get it into download mode. I had the usb cord already connected to the phone when I was holding Volume-, so that was the problem with that. Buuuut, I can't get into CWM at all. Holding Volume+ and Volume- plus the power button loads it directly into the Samsung logo screen, then reboots the phone. Maybe I need to reinstall CWM?

You need to flash a different kernel if you wanna get in recovery but at this point, flashing KK4 through Odin seems like a better idea

I already went ahead and did that, and it's loading back to the regular start screen. Now I'm just trying to get CM10 on there for her, but according to their installation instructions, I need to be able to get into CWM recovery using the 3 button combo, which is where I'm currently stuck. According to one guide I'm reading right now, installing the corn kernel should fix the problem.

Yes indeed. Have CM10 on your SD. flash Corn kernel through Odin 1.85, reboot in recovery and flash CM10 as per their instructions.

Yeah, still can't get into recovery. I turn off the phone, hold both volume buttons and the power button, but then it just stays at and keeps reloading the samsung loading screen (which now says i9000 instead of sgh-i897 like it did before). If I let go of the power button while on this screen, it progresses through the 3G/ATT screen and finally turns on the phone. Not sure what I need to do now. More research apparently.

Which KK4 did you flash? With the I897 bootloaders or I9000? And did you flash Corn kernel?
Getting in recovery can be tricky with the button combo. you could use ROM manager to get in recovery if you did flash Corn.

Well, I assumed it was the I897 one since the guide I had been using was for that version of the captivate, but I'm going to redownload one so I can be sure. The model number under phone info says "SAMSUNG-SGH-I897" and the kernel version is the "Cornv706" version.
Also, couldn't get into recovery with ROM manager either; it just got stuck at the Samsung screen.

In that case, reflash both stock KK4 and Corn Kernel. Seems like something went wrong.

hey guys, i believe i acquired a soft bricked galaxy s last night. from what the girl told me, it had been rooted, custom rom installed, and im guessing a kernel aswell.it gets past the "world phone" screen then gets stuck at the glowing android coming out of the ground. Im assuming its a kernel problem. ive tried alot of methods on here, searched alot of the forums on these phones being soft bricked. tried the vol+,home, power; vol-,home, power; both volumes, power; also tried with connecting usb and odin open; both volumes, connect usb, input batt; vol-, connect usb, input batt; ectect. i just cant get past that boot logo. I have the drivers from samsung installed but when connecting to the computer it registers that something connected but doesnt identify the phone. so is there anything i am missing guys? i read about the jig and i am guessing thats where im gonna have to go with this. no problem there; just seeing if anyone has any other ideas. thanks in advance guys!

A jig will force download mode but is only needed is vol down + power button doesn't get you in it.
Do you know if she was on gb and up? That would change your button combo to get in recovery to vol up + down + power button.
If you can get in recovery that way, you have 2 options: 1- clear cache and dalvik (in advanced) and try rebooting. 2- reflash the custom ROM she was running (without deleting anything).
If recovery doesn't work, get in download mode and flash Odin KK4 without bootloaders (in dev section). From there, you'll need to flash Corn kernel with Odin 1.85 and you'll be able to get in recovery to flash the ROM and Gapps she was running. *Doing this will wipe her apps and apps data*

yea, whatever happens to the phone doesnt matter, its mine now, was just given to me. sadly idk what rom she was running, her sd card is MIA, and idk what OS she was running on. i highly doubt she would even know. so at this point after trying all the button combos, think a jig is the only option?
What happens if u pull the battery, replace it, leave phone off, phone must be off, connect usb end of cable to ur pc, hold both volume up and down together and then insert micro usb into phone ??
Download mode yes or no ?
If no see my sig below (if ur on a pc or in a web browser)...there are links there on how to make a Jig and/or where to buy a Jig.

Same story man. Probably gonna be jig is what it is looking like. Any ideas what cause this to happen? Ex. Not being able to enter recovery/download by using proper button combos?
Just a known issue on some Capivates. But the flash up to GB firmware is the fix for the button combos failin to work. Once u have the GB BLs ur button combos should work.
So once u get a jig, Odin or Heimdall up to KK4 with Bootloaders (heed all warnings about flashin BLs). Then u can Odin KK4 Corn Kernel and proceed where u wish.

Beauty! So that should wake it up. And from there I can reboot, find out what is it has then flash a new ROM after making sure recovery works and whatnot?
After the Stock kk4 flash it will have....Stock i897ucKK4 Gingerbread 2.3.5 Firmware.
So afterwards u will need to use Odin to flash the .tar file version of the KK4 Corn Kernel in order to get cwm recovery and go from there in the flashin of dev roms if u want.

Little precision: Odin one click is what you'll be using to flash KK4 (stock gb firmware). Odin 1.85 is what you'll need to flash Corn kernel (.tar is PDA slot).
Sounds great. Should be able to get it done today
well i built a jig using the three resistors from radioshack and a micro usb cable i found laying around. doesnt appear to be working...
ok, so i needed an actual samsung cord......plugged it into my computer and it started charging
ok, got it! now searching for correct drivers. apparently i had the wrong ones

short version: I have a Captivate, that does not boot to download menu, does not respond to Power button, does not have anything on the screen.
Question 1: how do I boot it to download mode?
Question 2: how do I flash from here?
Long version: phone was running Serendipity VII well. I wanted to upgrade it to SlimBean, but after flashing the ROM it did not recognize any mobile networks. I decided to flash it back to stock and go from there (this was successful with another phone). I was using Wolf's AIO toolbox > Odin 3 button fix. Odin finished flashing successfully (as per message window), but after it the phone's screen went dark. Could not power it up for nothing! Phone does not boot up to Download mode.
What I think might have happened, I somehow flashed/erased/damaged bootloaders by my last ODIN procedure (maybe had a checkmark when I shouldn't have)
I am at a loss. The worst part - it is my friend,s phone. Mine was flashed without a glitch.
so, assuming I can boot it to Download mode, what is the best way to end up with a slimbean rom. Do I need to flash it to froyo, GB, ICS? what about bootloaders? recovery?
The AIO Toolbox Odin 3 Button fix had a Warning attached to the OP of the thread informing users that it could brick their phone. Because the flash back to stock with the 3 button fix only had the sbl.bin bootloader and not the boot.bin bootloader. So in the end, because the bootloaders with Serendipity VII must have been i9000 GB, it sounds like u got mixed bootloaders which = Hard Brick. Ur only fix now is Jtag. Contact mobiletechvideos.com to get it repaired.
U could try a Jig to get into Download mode...but I believe u r hard bricked.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I too bricked my phone 2 days back. No signs of life. It's dead. Not able to get into download node also. Jig works for me. So I suggest you to use jig..
