We have all seen Ubuntu touch and tried it and we all know that their is a lot of work to be done on the OS.
We were all promised that nightly versions will be available but this has not been followed.
So those of you that have high hopes for Ubuntu replacing Android, think again.
Ubuntu will follow the same steps as what Android did in 2008. Maybe a stable full release will come in 2015 but I seriously wouldn't hold out for the previews to be nightly. Last version was 21st February 2013.

Meh, don't bother with my CM9 port, the code for that build is ancient in technological terms. I'll be compiling CM10 or AOKP JB for you guys next month when my bandwidth meter restarts. I waster a LOT of bandwidth trying to sync the CM10 code and having it run into a fatal error at the end. Such a piss off.

I like Ubuntu a lot. I've only used 11.10, and 12.04 but I personally prefer 11.10 due to the fact that 12.04 is "only experimentally supported for compiling ROM's and not guarenteed to work". I also find 11.10 to be significantly more stable and smooth than 12.04, but it could be because of my older computer and processor.
If you're good with technology and computers (Which you most likely are since you're on XDA) then you should have no problem learning how to use Ubuntu. There are a little bit more quirks in Ubuntu than in Windows, and the problems typically have to be fixed in the Terminal, but it's not that bad. I personally enjoy using Ubuntu, I found it to be very easy to learn how to use. (But I'm a major nerd )
Edit: If you want to know anything else about Ubuntu, let me know and I'll fire up my VM.

My pleasure I've read them all, and tried out a majority of them myself. Some work, some don't but they all teach you valuable lessons and are worth reading. Not all of them are for Sense ROM's, only some of them are. I also really want to compile CM10 which is why I also have a lot of AOSP links. Some are also app tutorials, I'm also trying to learn how to write apps.
That's an impressive list, thanks for sharing.
Will this new OS the Ubuntu phone os be available or even compatible with op? hope it is it looks promising. :fingers-crossed:

I suspect it will be akin to cm10 so if OB can run cm10 well, then probably yes, but im just speculating there. And there is, in the general section, a thread where u can discuss about it.
As soon as the source is released i will try to build it
Hi All,
I remember that we will not be receiving next major version of Android by CM becoz of lack of NEON instructions. I only wonder, if we will still get CM 10.2 or our last version will be CM 10.1.
Can anybody with CM insider knowledge answer?
I can only see that there was not created CM10.2 branches in our P990 github related repositories, which is bad sign to me.
Edit: Answer is Yes, CM10.1 is last version.
CM 10.1 seems to be the latest official version of cyanogenmod. But just look at all the gifted developers in the development thread. I guess someone will get it working on our device .
I think even some time ago pengus or tonyp mentioned that they like the challenge ....
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda app-developers app
Yes, I have read tonyp's thread and there was mentioned that CM team officially won't support 10.2 for our phone. But I hope Pengus and Tonyp will make something But it's quite possible that it will be a little bit unstable and glitchy...

Thanks, I know about it. But unfortunately it will not be official CM, only experimental.
It's great that there are still developers who want to keep our device up to date :fingers-crossed: , but looks like it's time to look around for next future device.

it isn't really experimental only the camera doesn't work and all cm10.1 bugs are included but cm10.2 is smoother and hdmi is partly fixed
With the final release coming soon. Will we be able to try Ubuntu Touch on our Kindles?
Last I checked we can already but it's an older version, I remember hashcode mentioning a bug that he would have to fix for the newer builds to work. Haven't heard much about this in a while though.
Edit: whoops thought I was in the 8.9" section, there's not a port for the 7", I considered porting it to 7" but seeing as a bug needed fixing I said screw it and ported Firefox OS.

main purpose is to install XBMC KODI,its for my daughter, just wondering which one best fits these requirments?thanks.
Been using flintman's Evervolv 5.0.1 with 3.4 kernel (3/11 nightly) for about couple of weeks without any issues. Runs kodi 14.1, some flash, html5, etc fine. Don't expect camera to be as good as it was in webos. It works, but resolution isn't impressive; hasn't been since cm9.
Install is straight forward using touchpad toolbox. Read, Resize, flash. I remove anything I don't need with Rom Toolbox. That includes Google search and launcher, live wallpapers, face unlock, talk back, tts, etc. Doing so makes it a lot more stable for me.

I would say to install something a little more stable than a lollipop (5.0) build. The KitKat builds (4.4) are far more stable and complete so you won't have to do as much troubleshooting and reflashing all the time to fix stuff. I personally run the latest JC Sullins build from January and the performance is far better than what I've gotten from the lollipop builds so far.

This had originally been posted on the development section I believe. It has since been moved by a moderator to the correct location. The notice was to let the OP know for future reference.
