[guide][how to] TwWallpaperChooser.apk to add more wallpapers...[easy] - Galaxy Ace S5830i General

hello guys,
i m here to give u some information on how to add more wallpapers to the existing twwallpaper chooser.apk.............
it is very easy task & not require very high knowledge...........
tools required:-
1.) apktool/apkmultitool
2.) java runtime
3.) jpeg wallpaper images [u can get from google ]
4.) notepad++ [i prefered it for editing xml ]
5.) some knowledge about apktool /apkmultitool refer to my thread
guide:-
1.) decompile the twwallpaper.apk using apktool/apkmultitool........
2.)goto decompiled folder >res>drwable-mdpi
3.) add ur images to drawable-mdpi folder
u ve to add 2 images for each wallpaper
example --- abhi922.jpeg is the wallpaper & other is abhi922_small.jpeg
abhi922.jpeg should be a proper 640x480 image
abhi922_small.jpeg should be a proper 107x80 image
4.) goto values-mdpi folder
5.) open arrays.xml
it should look like this ----

a) we have given it that name which we have assign to jpeg image......[ abhi922.jpeg]
b.) u can also add this line " <item>abhi922</item> " to any place as it will change order the of wallpapers in app......
6.) save this file.....
7.) compile again refer to my thread
8.) test & apply new wallpapers..
if u use this thread & make a new modded apk then give me credits​
hit thanxxxx button for me .......nothing else.........​

best way to know that is extarct a wallpaper from your S5 SecWallpaperPicker.apk
then check its dimensions using any app from market or on windows photo viewer details..
then use that dimension to trim ur custom wallpapers...
also ---> u need to check that which folder contains ur wallpapers ... It will be like this --> drawable-sw***dp-**dpi
sw***dp can be any number like sw360dp or sw720dp or any other etc....
**dpi can be like xhdpi or xxhdpi or any other etc...
also ---> ur value folder will be different ... like --> value-xhdpi , value-xxhdpi or any other acc. to ur phone's display.

Hi guys,
I have done this for the S5.
Deleting the stock images and adding my own images. De compiled, added the new images, made the changes in the relevant .xml files, compiled and signed secwallpaperpicker.apk.
No errors when de compiling or compiling.
Added it to my rom zip, installed, but when I go to check from the wallpaper picker, I get "Unfortunately settings has stopped". When I go to install the secwallpaperpicker.apk file, it get message "App not installed" Permissions are correct.
Any devices please?

you have signed ur apk which u cannot do for system app.....

Thanks for your reply - much appreciated.
I have actually done the same with signed and unsigned and still getting the same result.
I have extracted both framework-res and secwallpaperpicker.apk from the ROM zip, created framework files, decompiled the secwallpaperpicker.apk file, added a new image (wallpaper_12.png and wallpaper_12_small.jpg) to the image folder, updated the public.xml and strings.xml file, compiled the apk again without any errors. Did the following:
1. Signed and zipaligned
2. Unsigned and zipaligned
3. Signed
4 Unsigned
Copied the apk file back to the ROM zip using winrar (store), installed the ROM via Aroma installer. Everything fine till I go to settings --> Wallpaper --> home and lock screens. Getting error "Unfortunately, settings has stopped working. Getting error "app not installed" when trying to install the app manually from the external SD card (signed & unsigned). Trying to copy the apk file to \system\priv-apps using ES file manager, getting an error something about I don't have access and or folder is read only. Downloaded secwallpaperchooser.apk, added that to the ROM zip, then also getting the same errors/results.
Modified the alarm clock apk and it works fine.

[HOW TO] GO Launcher EX Theme Template

NOTE: THIS IS NOT THE SAME AS THE THEME PROGRAM
This is a tutorial and download (salvaged from before the server crashed) of the GOLauncher EX Theme Template
With it you can create beautiful themes, with unlimited icons, for each package.
Now, here goes nothing:
1. Download the zip of the template here, and extract it
2. Open the english pdf and follow the instructions in there
3. Grab the icons you want, either from another theme or from your own sources
4. Give theme a good name (like gtalk for google talk) and resize them to a 72*72 png in Paint.NET
5. Go to /assets in the trunk_1.0ok folder and open appfilter.xml (I recommend Notepad++ for this)
6. Copy this into the file:

7. a. Replace APP NAME with your own name, for your use to remember it, for example "N.O.V.A. 2"
b. Download LauncherPro to your phone from the market, but don't set it as default home. Create a shortcut on GOLauncher's desktop and select 'activites' (with LauncherPro icon). Wait for it to load and then find your app. Tap the name and lots of package name with activites will appear.
c. Replace the first com.whatever... with the app name, such as com.opera.browser
d. Replace the second com.whatever... (after /) with the package AND activity name, so it ends up as something like com.opera.browser.BrowserActivity
e. Do this for each activity name, until you end up with a list, under one <!-- -->, like this:

g. Replace all of the things inside the drawable ""s with the name of the image inside the /res/drawable-hdpi folder, but without the .png extension, so for example, if you had an icon name like asphalt6.png, it would be asphalt6
8. Go back to the trunk1.0_ok folder and right click in a blank space, whilst holding shift. Click Open command window here
9. Type makeall into the command prompt that appears and hit enter
10. Wait for it to finish
11. Take the _signed.apk fron the folder and put it on you phone's SD card
12. Install it using your favourite file manager
13. Apply it in GOLauncher EX
14. Hit the thanks button

I am using your other ECLIPSE Template, is way better and faster. Anyway, this is even more work than with Launcher Pro / ADW Launcher Themes.
I don't know how the biggest Icon Pack for Go Launcher is, but I searched some and some of them are only 700kb big and the biggest and most popular ones are 2MB big. So I would say they include around 100-200 Icons.
My Iconpack fro LauncherPro includes right now 1300 ICONS and I try to port it completely to Go Launcher. The good thing is that it won't be so big as on LauncherPro.
Started today and got 100 Icons, wow a lot of work. Will do some more tomorrow and maybe in a couple of days/weeks I can have all the Icons inside.
AND have not only the biggest LauncherPRO Icon Pack, but also the biggest Go Launcher Icon Theme
The/my iPhonious GoLauncher themes, have over 1400 icons, and 900+ of them theme from the drawer.
The theme also works with ADW, LP, CircleLauncher, DVR, and more.

maybe you can help us how to create a theme that works with alle Launcher like Go and LauncherPro
P.S. you said something about a iPhonious Theme, I can't find one for Go Launcher, only for MIUI, and there it is really easy to theme

I get the signed .apk file... But when i try to install it on my phone it says "Application not installed"...
Any solution to this?...

It doesn't actually sign it. Use zipsigner 2 from the market for that

Wrong APK Created
So I followed the instructions and it does create an APK, but when I install the name is "Theme Template Go Launcher". Also the icons that I imported don't show up - only the icons from the trunk1.0_ok\res\drawable-hdpi folder install. HELP!

Hi,
I'm getting a weird issue with the latest Go Launcher. When I apply my theme downloaded from play store (or even by sideloading it), the folders and the home button in the app drawer go missing. i.e. only folder labels show up, but not the folder icon. When I tap the folder label, they do open and show the themed icons. So, only the folder icons go missing.
Please see the attached screenshot to understand what I mean.
Could anyone please tell me what could be wrong in my theme build? Am I missing any PNG or some entry in any xml?

6. Edit, Save and Reboot!

Make status bar transparent(Only transparent for homescreen)
1. Decompile systemui.apk
2. Go to res/layout/status_bar,xml
3.Find android:background=FF000000 and change it to android:background=000000000 for full transparency and to android:background=5F000000 for half transparency.
4.If android:[email protected] statusbar_background (this name can be different) is present in status_bar.xml then you can find the image named statusbar_background in res/drawable-ldpi( or mdpi/hdpi depending on the device) and make that image transparent via image editors!
This simply means our status bar background is drawable and we are providing proper image for it!

Also, is the CRT effect not able to be done on a Gingerbread-based stock rom? I decompiled my framework-res.apk with NinjaMorph but, I can't seem to find the dir [APK ROOT]/res/values nor the bools.xml file...
Another question, is it dangerous to my rom's stability if I use somebody else's framework-res.apk? (taking into account that my rom's backed up though, it's not really an issue )

I am also S5830i user but this method won't work due to unknown reasons! I'll edit OP!
Otherwise it will work on other devices!
Don't replace framework-res.apk.. U'll get bricked.. If u are doing ui changes just take the pngs and replace in ur framework-res.apk! But make sure resolution is same as that of original one!

It is yes, but you can only theme images it seems with NinjaMorph, which is why it doesn't list the folders that consist mainly of xmls, which can only be edited after being decompiled.
Was really a very easy n a extremely noov friendly tutorial.

this thread was created to help my HUEsers modify my theme.apk, (may be applicable to other themes as well)
to get familiar and exposed on the contents of it and basic filenames / codes inside the apk,

SETTING UP...
1. now that you have downloaded all the tools above, install jdk, sdk, and apk multitool one by one,
(instructions must be on their individual websites) you may want to install them all in the root of your drive C:
2. once you are done installing apk multitool, grab the aapt.exe you downloaded in the link above
(please thanked @titanic_fanatic on his post and work - this is a modified aapt.exe that lets you compile upper case package names)
and put/replaced existing aapt.exe in APK-Multi-Tool/other
LET"S DO IT!
decompiling theme (Hue.apk for ex)
1. put Hue.apk in APK-Multi-Tool/place-apk-here-for-modding
2. double click Script.bat in APK-Multi-Tool
3. press any key
4. press 9 (Decompile apk)
5. go to APK-Multi-Tool/projects and you will find a folder named Hue.apk
6. that's it, you have just successfully decompiled my theme and time to do the edits
7. don't close script.bat
modifying apk
1. this is the time you will do your modifications (changing/adding/deleting images and codes)
2. i will discussed most important parts of apk in post #2 to keep this instruction short and clean
3. don't close script.bat
compiling / signing / installing
1. on your phone, go to settings > developer options > and check usb debugging
2. connect your phone on your pc / laptop
3. now in Script.bat opened, select 15 (this will compile, sign and install your modified theme all at once at your phone)
4. that's it, check your phone using your modified theme
5. congratulations!
6. btw your modified apk is located in APK-Multi-Tool/place-apk-here-for-modding as signed_Hue.apk (you can rename it)

BASICS INSIDE THE APK
3 basic file types/extensions we will be dealing with most of the time
1. .xml - color codes, image redirections, are inside this file (use Notepadd++ to open such files)
2. .png - these are the images/icons we usually see on most part of the phone ui (open using photoshop/gimp and dont edit using paint or you will lose its transparency background)
3. .9.png - stretchable pngs that expand or shrink depending on the usage (these images has a black pixel boarder that needs to be preserved, or else you will be having error in compiling)
color codes (hex codes)
quick overview of color hexcodes (range - 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 A B C D E F)
#FF000000 as an example (represents black while white is #FFFFFFFF)
FF or the first two letters of the code represents its transparency 00 means full transparent while FF is opaque (im using 88 or 80 for semi transparent)
next 6 digits are the RGB color code, look at this way #FFRRGGBB
if you want solid red, use #FFFF0000, solid green #FF00FF00, solid blue #FF0000FF
just play with the color codes (im sure you have just played with it in most of the rom options)
decompiled apk
once you decompiled apk, you will noticed a folder named res (this is our main concern, we will be working with this folder all the time)
inside the res folder...
there are lots of drawable-** folder that contains all of our images (.png and .9.png),
most of the icons are located in drawable-xhdpi and drawable-hdpi,
you can also find values folder containing some xmls such as
styles.xml - this xml is where i usually make my inverts of ui (from holo.light to holo for example)
drawables.xml - some color codes were redirected here
colors.xml - some of the hex codes inside styles.xml were redirected here, most color codes inside drawable folder and color folder are also redirected here, so i can only have one place of editing when converting color codes on my color versions of themes
next is the xml folder
xmls inside this folder controls the apps being themed, you can find package names of the apps as the xmls filenames
if you will noticed, there are some xmls here having upper cases, that's why we need the modified aapt.exe (again thanks titanic_fanatic)
last is the mipmap-** folder
this folder contains all the themed launcher icons, i already redirected all my themed app's launcher icons here
file names
how do i named the images? let's put an example
go to res/xml and look for com_android_calculator2.xml
now this is the xml that controls my themed calculator, if you open up the xml via Notepad++ you will notice the original png file names being replaced by my own themed png through a line code
this line for example (this is the delete icon in calculator)

IT'S MODDING TIME!
i will show you some examples and what file to edit with these mods
again file names of images may vary depending on theme,
but package name under res/xml are standard on all theme
before you begin modifying, delete Public.xml in res/values folder
remove themed launcher icons
delete these two folders
res/mipmap-hdpi
res/mipmap-xhdpi
remove themed specific apps
for example you don't want my themed keyboard and prefer stock aosp keyboard look
delete the xml of the apps you want to be removed, in our example keyboard which is
com_android_inputmethod_latin.xml in res/xml folder
change background of system and dialer
prepare your custom background (make sure you have the right size as per your screen resolution)
hdpi - 480x800
xhdpi - 640x960
and name it as
contacts_background_dial_holo_dark.png and framework_background_holo_dark.png
and replaced existing backgrounds in res/drawable-nodpi
change notification background
the image for that is system_notification_panel_bg.9.png located in res/drawable-xhdpi
note that this is a .9.png, be careful in editing and preserve the black 1px boarder of it
however you can bypass the image if you want to make it the stock look or pure black look
open com_android_systemui.xml in res/xml
look for the line

you can see that it was redirected to my themed image system_notification_panel_bg.9.png
if you prefer the stock background look, just delete that entire line
if you want it to be pure black, remove the redirection to the custom image and this time redirect it to hex code instead

change (non connected to google server) signal back to grey
download HueSilver.apk, rightclick and open archive using 7zip
go to res/drawable-xhdpi (for phone ui only, for tablet ui, go to res/drawable-sw720dp-xhdpi)
drag these icons outside the apk and replaced it on the apk you were modifying
(dragging existing images from the apk is only applicable to .png and not to .9.png)

try to update your framework-res.apk in /other folder
replaced it with your rom's framework-res.apk (android 4.2.2)

[How To]Ripple Lockscreen for 31XX,51XX + Transparent Status Bar for 31XX

I have had some people asking how to get the Samsung Ripple Lockscreen working so I thought I would add a small guide here how to do it so it can be done to any JB Samsung based ROM for both 31XX and 51XX tab 2s as has been tested on both. Tested on 4.1.2 but not on 4.1.1 but should still work for that too. This is the first how to I have done so sorry if it is not very good
Prerequisites
Deodexed Jelly Bean Samsung Based Rom
Apktool
Text Editor eg notepad++
Knowledge how to decompile and build apks and jars
You will need two files from the system/framework of your rom
1.framework-res.apk
2.services.jar
Framework-res.apk Changes
Decompile framework-res.apk
Navigate to folder framework-res/res/values
Open bools.xml in a text editor
look for
Code:
<bool name="config_isWaterRippleEnabled">false</bool>
and change to
Code:
<bool name="config_isWaterRippleEnabled">true</bool>
That is all for the framework-res.apk so build framework-res and copy across the META-INF folder from your original framework-res.apk to the newly compiled framework-res.apk and that is ready to go.
This will now give you the option in lockscreen settings to select ripple effect but depending on the base your wallpaper may be hidden with ripple effect enabled so to fix that you need to mod services.jar
Services.jar Changes
Download the attached WindowAnimator.zip
Extract WindowAnimator.smali from zip
Decompile services.jar
Navigate to smali/com/android/server/wm
Replace WindowAnimator.smali with the one attached
That is all that is needed for services.jar so build services.jar and it is ready to go
This will make your wallpaper visible when ripple lockscreen is selected.
Put the files in a flashable zip and flash in cwm or twrp recovery, push to system/framework or copy into system/framework which ever you prefer doing, personally I always just flash them in custom recovery so you can use the attached zip and and place your modded files inside and flash if you wish
Note
Same WindowAnimator.smali can be used for both 31XX and 51XX I have used it in both my roms for 31XX and 51XX
Ripple Lockscreen does not work with live wallpaper set as lockscreen wallpaper
This is only for Deodexed Samsung Based Jelly Bean roms
Feel free to include this in your rom just give credits.
How To Have Transparent SystemUI For 31XX
All changes are done to SystemUI.apk so you need to decompile it and apply the following changes below
Open res/layout/twsuperstatusbar.xml
Change this
Code:
android:background="#ff000000"
To this
Code:
android:background="#00000000"
Then open res/values/drawables.xml
Change this
Code:
<item type="drawable" name="status_bar_background">#ff1e1e1e</item>
To this
Code:
<item type="drawable" name="status_bar_background">#00000000</item>
This is for full transparent status bar but you can change the colour code in drawables to any shade of transparency or another colour if you want
This is all that is needed to have the status bar show transparent
To have a transparent background for the pull down or to have any picture you like these changes are required.
Open res/layout/twstatusbarexpanded.xml
Change this

android:background="@drawable/notification_panel_bg"
To this

android:background="@drawable/tw_notification_panel_bg"
Download the attached png called tw_notification_panel_bg.png and add it to res/drawable-mdpi
This is all that is needed to make the drop down window transparent or to any picture you like.
If you want other parts set to transparent as well in the dropdown for example the notifications title, where the date is etc you will need to

If you want to change the quick settings buttons background then you need to edit the png labelled tw_quick_panel_quick_setting_button_bg_normal.9 to a transparent one as well as for the tw_status_bar_close_off.png and tw_status_bar_close_on.png they can be changed to a transparent image as well so you will pretty much have a full transparent SystemUI

-decompiled framework-res.apk >> edited bool.xml using Notepad++
-decompiled services.jar >> replaced the file
-downloaded the zip that you uploaded
-copied META-INF folder from the original framework-res.apk to new that you uploaded
-put services.jar and framework-res.apk in the zip
-flashed using CWM...
BOOTLOOP :silly:
Sorry i mean't the services.jar not android policy.
Anyways. you did wrong. I'll upload a flashable zip once i get home. At school right now.

I don't know why you have framework-res2.apk as Samsung roms do not have that but you need the first one framework-res.apk

2.) Navigate to sdcard0/speedsoftware/extracted/apktool4.4_armhf/apktool folder and install apktool 4.4
3.) Open apktool app,grant root access. Now goto settings and select apktool version 1.5.2. Come back.
4.) Navigate to storage/sdcard0/speedsoftware/apktool4.4armhf folder.
5.) Long press on apktool folder and select Set as apktool data folder.
6.) Navigate to system/framework
7.) Click on framework-res.apk and select import as framework.
8.) In the same folder find twframework-res.apk(for samsung devices) or mediatek-res.apk, click on it->import as framework
9.) Now navigate to system/app, find systemui.apk->click on it and select
10.) Import as framework.
11.) Done.
How to theme SystemUI?
1.) Using root explorer, create a folder named 'A' in apktool folder.
2.) Copy SystemUI.apk to that folder.
3.) Open apktool app, navigate to that A folder, click on SystemUI.apk and select decompile all. Wait till it gets decompiled.
4.) After it gets decompiled, you will get a folder named SystemUI_src
5.) Now minimize apktool, go to root explorer, navigate to SystemUI_src folder, and do any type of modifications you want.
For example, colour the battery icons using Picsay Pro and save with the original name.
6.) After you are done, open apktool app, click on SystemUI_src folder, recompile. Wait till it gets recompiled. Now you will get an app named SystemUI_src.apk. That's your modded apk.
How to Sign SystemUI/Any System app?
1.) Using root explorer, goto A folder, and extract SystemUI.apk and SystemUI_src.apk one by one.
2.) Now navigate to sdcard0/speedsoftware/extracted/SystemUI folder.
3.) Copy Androimanifest.xml and Meta-inf folder from there. Press back and open SystemUI_src folder. Paste those two files there. Click replace when you see the popup.
4.) Come back. Long press on SystemUI_src folder and select zip this folder. Then select goto zip once its finished. Rename the SystemUI_src.zip to SystemUI.apk.
5.) Done. Now you can your push own modified UI to system/app!

But why this step secting apk tool version 1.5.2
Ahh...thats for smali
Apktool when set to 2.0 gives errors sometimes while recompiling if you edit smali files hence, set it to 1.5.2 so that you won't face any problem

Is this version stable and bugfree? or should I install an older one (e.g. v4.4)
An other question,what should I do to have a signed and/or working app after:

Because when I add files to the apk and try to compile, errors, errors,...errors!!

1. I would recommend older version of apktool as it would work faster on your tab.
2. Install busybox if its not already installed.
3. If you are replacing a png, then keep in mind that you must replace those pngs with "SAME NAME" as they were before in the SystemUI.
4. Donot touch .9.pngs if you don't know how to play with them.

Thanks for replying.
I already know how to replace pngs inside an apk,and I know that .9.PNG are not. png. But what I can't do is to successfully compile and sign the app after adding-not just replacing-new files to the existing ones inside_let's say package/res/drawable_apk.
Umm...if you want to ADD pngs, then you need to make some changes in xmls, otherwise it won't recompile
