Stupid question, but I'm curious about it... Is someone trying to build a custom rom or nothing is moving underneath? Is it more difficult with this phone than with other, like RAZR M that has already several roms available?
Thank you.
AW: Custom Roms?
Hey there.
There are custom ROMs from papi32 (MIUI and AMBP or something like that, but based on Android 4.0.4 ICS) and some other guys trying to port cm10. And hazou builds his own kernel and successfully boot it. You can follow this thread for more information http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2121213.
And yes it's very difficult to build/port custom ROMs to our device, because it has a x86 Intel atom processor. Most smartphones have ARM processors, so port ROMs from other devices is as difficult as try to port Android to normal computers.
But I think we will have custom roms, you just have to wait.

It's difficult because of the lack of source from Motorola (they released the strict minimum) and some particular implementations made by Motorola. Not because it's a x86 SoC....

I cant agree in complete with your post - you can use a lot of the precompiled modules from the 4.1.2 rom - if you do not use a newer kernel provided at sourceforge.
The reason is imho - there is no dev out there with an razr i and the time to build the dev tree and toolchain...

You right. The time to do it seems to be the major issue for the few dev that try it.
We don't need an army of devs (there's plenty of device with great customs rom thanks to only one or two great devs)... We just need someone that can figure it out and have the time (and of course the device) to go further into the job.
I'm totally sure that once will have a first release (even a pre-alpha roms like cm10.x) things will go faster
Okay, so it's clear that we all want development on our phone, but it's tedious and most of us do not have the knowledge to do it. Still, what can we commoners do to enforce development? should we contact motorola and spam them until they give out more code/assistance? Should we donate to the Liquid Smooth guys? look to hire someone?

maybe some has contact to quarx and can convince him to help. he is a xda-dev who really did magic with motorola phones even with an unlockable bootloader. (i know all the other moto phones aren't x86).
I had a defy+ before this phone and quarx is a freaking legend.

I really hope so!
I'd be careful about "hiring" someone. I saw the HTC Flyer guys get hosed when they collected a bounty for someone.
Hopefully the LiquidSmooth guys can figure it out. They haven't updated us on any progress, so I don't know what's going on, but they seem like a legit group. There's also the guys trying to port CM10. Progress is happening on that, but it's going slow because they don't have a lot of free time on their hands.

Agreed. I put it on the N1 and... Bleh. No major improvements, a few bugs I didn't have stock. I don't get all the hype, unless it's just about removing bloatware and such...which obviously wasn't an issue on the N1. So far I'm loving Ken's Alien #2, but I'm definitely tempted to try Cherry Pi.
Anyway, source release is good! Will be nice to see the talented devs go to town.

Motorola takes the source and adds Blur. Then they add AT&T cap to it. HTC does this with Sense. Samsung does it with TouchWhiz. Source is just plain, stock Android, like you'd find on a Nexus device. It makes it a lot easier for a dev to add/tweak/optimize, because you aren't having to worry about how removing Moto's messaging app breaks wifi and causes pimples.
At least, that's my "I'm not a dev, but I play one on tv" understanding.

If you've never compiled a kernel before its kind of hard to imagine, but the scope of choices available to you are ...really massive.
We have to accept kernels from Motorola which they believe is best, or perhaps they have decided to do knowing its not best (for limitation features, carrier requests, etc.)
On top of the kernel is a lot of layers also, with decisions and configurations in each area customized to the nth degree by each hand that touches it and each revision is done. Everything from the default ring tone and boot screen to the default GPS server used for looking up GPS data.
The ROM developers are able to work around, and modify a lot of things, but having the source means they can work it from 'the ground up' in their own image, removing things that have been added without merit (such as BLUR) or moving the whole thing in a new direction.
As stated at the top, if you've never compiled a kernel its kind of hard to explain but I hope that gives you some idea of the scope of what goes into 'making your phone go'.
Folks, try to keep it clean and let's stay on topic. Don't post for the sake of posting, only post if you have something important to share.
Thanks!

The kernel doesn't necessarily change all that much sometimes, so progress isn't really lost. Even still the changes can be reworked to the new source.

Yeah he said that, I think he wants to know if this may set them back...
I can't see how this could. They will just go compare what they did with the source and see if they need to make changes, and it will make the rest of it go faster. They had source for a similar device they were working off of. This will help tremendously I'm sure.
Anyone gonna be first ti put together a compile thread? I compiled my own kernel for n1 with battery tweaked driver. Can't wait to try on the ATRIX.

Good news everyone, I was about to get my hands dirty and try to port CM but happens that a fellow portuguese who is in CM team received a Black from LG and is already porting it!
He's very knowledgeable and it should be fast. Hopefully the port can be merged without breaking other devices (if this happens it'll be official and we'll have nightlies). Otherwise, well, I hope he releases it anyway or at least sends me the device folder so I can.
Here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGoVy4tQki0
We can also see here that he has a .35 kernel which probably the only way to have gotten it is with gingerbread. I guess what I'm trying to say here is, LG probably also gave him 2.3 sources, so the update should also be near.
Since I prefer AOSP to CM, when it's out I'll also use his device folder and port to a clean AOSP-ish ROM.

Sense4 is not a flashable launcher, but the complete rom, since Sense is integrated into all the framework of ICS and android, so you cannot run widgets or apps without having the sense core framework and native libraries associated.
but i will make it a flashable zip through CWM, if decision is to do it.

personally i believe its a though one. functionality in the framework (telephony) needs to be ported into the htc framework, or vice versa if possible.
but the radio someone seems similar , but honestly i am not technical radio expert, but they share the 6260 radio name on htc as well, maybe a nvidia radio compatibility thing.
Its not a case of putting the LG ril files in the HTC framework is it?

i was told it was that simple on the GSIII port, which seemed to die, although they claimed to have phone working
but here its not that simple. i try to follow the logs with "logcat -b radio" and you do see its being setup with lge-ril.so , but then telephony framework seems to identify it as cdma and other calls to framework fails.
i believe some lge services are required to utilize the functions fully.
Hmm, I will deffianetly have a look if and when you release it

yes, that happened already when my GnoteII arrived, i really prefer that one over o4x, coming from HTC flyer with scribe functions as well and the 5.5" display i like soo much now
^I can understand you mate. GNote2 is a great device and right open for experimentation from the get-go...I was considering it but the sheer size of it, is simply beyond my willingness to suffer carrying it in a handbag! I always demand for my devices to fit in my pocket no matter the slimness and that's the final deciding factor for me.
i might get a chance to rebuild my htc build (4.0.4 edition), it seems camera+wifi+bt works , but audio is now an issue.
ill keep this thread updated, if i get more progress. I probably need to return the o4x soon.
and no, HTC JB 4.1.2 is not possible , as we havent got any updated camera, audio, wifi libs to support the changes, so porting is impossible.
That's way better than nothing, mate. Thanks for your efforts, I'm interested in trying it out.

Hey guys, in desperate need of some advice.
Just to give you a little back story, I've been using a Nexus 4, rooted with Cyanogenmod CFW on it, and loved it. However I recently decided to sell it as it is just too big to be used comfortably in one hand (with the bumper case on).
Yesterday I went into a 3 store and signed up for their £15/month One Plan. I also picked up a Motorola RAZR i XT890 as it was the smallest, decent-looking handset I could find in any of the 5 phone shops I searched.
I got home, un-boxed the phone and connected it up to my pc, getting ready to root it and put on CFW. However, after some research I seem to be at the conclusion that, because of the Intel processor that the RAZR utilizes, there is little to no CFW available for it, least of all Cyanogenmod.
Is my thinking correct? Because if it is, I may have to return the phone, as much as I love it's size and looks.
Any help greatly appreciated!

Razr M is designed for US market only so you would have to import it as there is no official distributor for EU markets.
I am not sure how it works with M in terms of bootloader being unlockable but there is special developer edition which is unlockable for sure.
So I've just flashed OmniROM on my LG Optimus 4X HD (p880). Probably this is the first unofficial build, built from Gerrit repos, I'm really proud of myself.
I'm pretty impressed that there were only a few changes needed and almost everything works, only BT doesn't work (easy to fix). I really like the quick settings flipping and how it shows Wi-Fi IP address when flipped. :good: I attach some screenshots.

Not yet. It's not even built from published sources, though there isn't much change in published ones yet.
Yes, probably I will.
Nice to see
In terms of going forward in terms of builds, we will be addressing these issues when we can. For now though, Omni isn't "officially" released in any kind of binary packages.
When the time comes, we will invoke the release processes, which will give nightly builds, with a weekly "tagged build". On Omni, nightly builds are expected to be stable, and encourage bug reports on them. A "weekly" is just a nightly that is tagged as "working fine", for those who don't want to update every day.

When OmniROM is going to be released on Nexus 4?
I hope they will have their own theme going on soon...was hoping it wouldn't look like cm/aokp out of the box lol

I hope it looks like AOSP out of the box, who cares about CM/AOKP?

Considering cm/aokp look just like aosp...I care it dont look like that o.o
Can somebody who's already built and run the ROM do a hands-on impressions video of it?

The current look is the "AOSP" look. I imagine that longer term, there will be reason to look into modular theming systems. A lot of people want a "pure android" look, and generally the best way to avoid breaking things is to make any themes optional extras.

Thank you, you kind sir for the response
Sounds really nice guys!!! Happy to see entropy and xplod working on android roms again after the cm thingy! Also nice to see that maxwen is working on this!
Made a build for the Nexus 10. I installed it breefly and from what i could see is that it is indeed mostly AOSP. Nice touch is the rotating tiles. If you rotate the wifi tile, you will see the ip adres.
Anyway i am still too much used to some CM additions (like the ability to close all apps at once).
It is a good start and will keep an eye on the development.

More features on the way
It's mostly AOSP right now, we are currently in the process of adding a lot of the "useful" parts we know and love. If you want to get involved, feel free to do so on Gerrit.

So another build for i9500
Everything is working except Bluetooth
Love it ^^
I've installed tilal6991's build on my Xperia T and it works like a charm. No superuser for some reason but otherwise it's perfect! Can't wait for this project to mature

Made a build for HTC Explorer, and it's running great, albeit with a few bugs(most are easy to fix)
The major thing i noticed was that all 4.3 roms for this device have a "lockscreen lag bug",but this doesn't!

Woah dude, you got this running on an Explorer? That thing is like...ancient. I didn't even think it would be capable of Android 4.1+ Props!
