No.
That wont help.
You will have to keep your screen on at all times so as to get your hotspot working properly.
For me the wi fi hotspot is working with screen off.No need to have always screen on when using hotspot.
Rom issue or aware x8 can't do never in wifi setting?? Bugs still there help...

Try keeping the screen on..
I also face the same problem.
As soon as the screen turns off the hotspot is gone..
Download Wake Lock PowerManager from Google Play and set Partial Wake Lock before tethering, then it will work with screen off.
For convenience you can create a homescreen shortcut to quickly set a Partial Wake Lock.
Cheers

Hi all
My Wifi stays on during sleep even though in settings I have this option set to never.
Anyone else experienced this? And is there a way to make the Wifi go of when n7 is in sleep mode?
Thanks
Chris

Could use a battery saving app and see if it kills wifi

Thanks I might look at that, it's not a big issue was more curious to see if any one else's acts the same way.

Have you actually given it time to turn off? Not sure if it is 5 or 10 minutes but for me it eventually turns off.
EDIT: I am set to "Only when plugged in"
Or there is a build prop tweak that suspends it in sleep like pm.sleep_mode=0 or close to that

The N7 wifi stays active for several minutes after the unit goes to sleep - even if you have it set to be only on when plugged-in or off when sleeping.
This is a really stupid design so I use my wifi widget to just turn it off before putting the unit to sleep.
There's most likely a setting somewhere to tweak to get the wifi to turn off immediately when the tablet sleeps.
Yes, the built in wifi off at screen off sometimes takes minutes and sometimes never turns it off.
Green Power, Tasker, Settings Profile, etc, all market apps will turn off wifi for you on screen off.
I use Tasker myself.
Ok, so I've had the phone for just under a week. I really like it. However, I've noticed that nfc will spontaneously just shut off on its own. I do not have power save mode activated. Similarly, I toggle location on/off often from the notification drawer, but I had set the setting to "power saving" where it estimates location based on mobile/WiFi signal. However, I often find it reverts to GPS only. Anyone else experiencing this?

I want to turn my phone screen off, is there anyway to do this?
Thanks
If u dont need to interact or see what your touchin like ud be using a Bluetooth mouse for instance then i would suggest screenstandby or an a screen filter app that allows u to set screen brightness all the way down to 0
It depends what app you are using in conjunction with your Chromecast. I recently discovered I could cast .mkv files that LocalCast was having trouble playing via a combination of the "cast screen" function and VLC player on my Nexus 6. The app will turn the display off while in use, but won't actually "lock" the screen.

It just reduces the brightness !! Does not turn the screen off or am I doing something wrong ?
Go through the setup again and follow the direction. Not sure if it works for all phones. It works on my N7 and GNex but both are rooted. U haz rootz?
Today I noticed that the Wi-Fi icon animation for turning on and off Wi-Fi is gone. Before, when I would turn on Wi-Fi, each "bar" on the Wi-Fi "launch" icon would light up in sequential order but how the whole icon lights up immediately. What happened to the animation? Same for when I turn off Wi-Fi. Before each bar would turn off in order but now the whole thing just turns off.

I have my phone secured using the finger print sensor, it's set to automatically lock if I press the power button and when the screen times out and over 50% of the time, I'm able to get into my phone without using any passwords or having to use the finger print sensor. It's almost like I don't have any lock screen security set up at all. Anyone else running into this or is it just me?

Do you have Trusted Devices/Locations on? I've forgotten a bunch of times and thought that my lockscreen wasn't working right for a few seconds....
Thank you! The trusted location wasn't the issue but in checking on that, I discovered that it stays unlocked when my Bluetooth headset is connected!
