"Insufficient Storage Available" error message? - Motorola Droid Bionic

I have a Bionic on 4.0.4 ICS and am running CM10 (I think, I don't remember and I just got my computer back from Geek Squad and they deleted my entire 'ROOT' folder... thanks Best Buy). Anyway, I keep running into a problem when trying to download new apps from the Play Store or updating existing apps, I get a notice saying "Insufficient Storage Space) and thus cannot install the app or update. When I go look at the storage on my phone, it shows that I have 2.97GB available, so I'm failing to see where there isn't enough room to download a 21MB update. Anyone know what is going on here? I've tried wiping Cache and Dalvik and it doesn't seem to do anything for this issue, if that matters.

Also, I just ran into this right after I posted this, but I downloaded a cycling app called Strava, and it downloaded and installed successfully (even when other apps wouldn't) but when I try to launch the app, I get a notification saying, "Your device does not seem to support Google Play Services." WTF? I just downloaded this app FROM the Play Store! WTF is the story here?!

There is a file called "lost.dir" takes up a lot of space and doesn't do anything .try deleting that and see if that helps

Thanks for the reply. I did that but it didn't help.

If you've used lucky patcher, this problem will arise... try deleting odex file of the application you are trying to update... in root / data / app and you are done..

[Q] App updates

well i downloaded a few apps from the market like facebook and angry birds but now i cant download/update apps from the market. those two apps have updates, can i update them a different way?
what do you mean you can't update them? They don't show up or you download them, try to install and you get errors?
Get the apk online, put it on your sd card and install it. If you can't find the apk, make a backup of it with your phone, transfer it to the sd card of your NC and install away. Manual ways, but they work.

it says its updating but nothing happens just like when i try to install something.
thanks for the tip.
I forgot to mention that i use dropbox to transfer from one device to the other when i need to. This will save you a lot of time.
Try clearing your market cache and google services framework (i think), it's posted somewhere. This should get you a fresh start.

Android Market.. please help

I have my new Nook Color rooted to 3.0. I was able to use the Market perfectly fine for quite some time, downloading over a dozen apps. However, now it's giving me all sorts of problems. The last few downloads failed. If I try to redownload them, I never get a notification. It's like it forgot about me. Then it said I needed to resign into Gmail, and even with a valid password, it said it was wrong. Magically, without entering a password, it started working again. However, I still can't download everything.
I've tried to clear the cache on the Android Market app, and restart, but nothing. Now Google Talk won't authenticate. Ughh..
Please help!
Protip. Honeycomb isn't ready to be used for nook.
I know it's not fully operational, but I also know there's a way to get the Market working again. That's all I need to know.
No idea if this works, you could try downloading and installing the Cyanogenmod GApps package (can't post a link...it's easy to find on the official CM website).
Be prepared to bork your installation and have to reinstall HC completely, though. In general, you shouldn't expect much luck from a hacked SDK build that is soon to be obsolete.
Honestly, after doing some research, I think it's Google Talk. Other Android users have the same issue. If Talk won't connect (authentication failed), then Market won't work. I haven't found a solution though to the problem.. still looking.
Ok, I'm done with 3.0, this is frustrating. What's the best way to go from 3.0 to an earlier version of Android like 2.2 or 2.3?
I am running nookie froyo 0.6.8 from SD card. My Market also wasn't working and my google talk aslo failed to authenticate. I clear the cache for the market and I cleared the google services framework data and it worked again. I also found that have my install from unknown sources enable wouldn't allow my market to load at all. It gave me errors. If anybody knows how to fix that problem please help me. Good luck!

Seriously, you're my hero. It worked after I did that and rebooted!
One problem though, while it's at least trying to download and install now (and works on programs like Pandora), I can't get Angry Birds or AB Seasons to install. It always says it was unsuccessful. Any thoughts?

Also I don't take credit for this fix. Somebody else posted it and I was just saying that I had the same problem and that this solution worked for me as well and I wanted to add that having Unknown sources checked cause the market to not working for me not sure if others are having that problem.

Can the system be set to download games to internal memory instead of the SD card, so that we won't have to pull the SD card out? Is that possible just wondering?
Um, how can you get away with pulling the SD card if you're running the OS off the card?
Market is broken for me...
Can anyone help me out with this Market not working?
I'm running stock NOOKcolor ROM v1.1 with AutoNooter (for root) and ADW launcher. Everything was working great for me and when I tried to install the latest Market the Market stopped working. It loads, and I accepted the terms and conditions, then it drops back to the home screen (launcher desktop). And each new time I load it, it drops back to the home screen.
I tried clearing cache, and data for the Market. I tried unchecking the USB debug, and Allow Non-Market Installs. I tried removing the microSD card. I tried reverting back to the old Market. I tried looking for the Google Services Framework, but could not find it under all apps. Nothing is working for me.
Any suggestions or tips? Anyone else having this problem?

[Q] Insufficient Storage Available on a few apps

Okay. So the weirdest, yet most annoyingness (them fake words, though) thing keeps happening. It's a pet peeve of mines to not have all my apps up to date. LoL!! So these 2 apps keep giving me the Insufficient Storage Available error.
It started off with PPSSPP ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.ppsspp.ppsspp ).
I can't update to the newest update. I have the previous one. I once ran Google Edition and it updated fine. I meant to make a backup and just restore it to be up to date. Grr!!
Then all of a sudden it started happening to The Hardest Game Ever 2 ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.orangenose.games ).
It's weird. I want them to update. LoL!! Yes, I have enough space. I mean all my other apps update.
I've wiped Dalvik Cache and Cache. I read over something once about deleting system logs? When these apps finishing updating I try wiping Market Data. Or maybe just wiping the Market cache. I don't feel. Maybe data. It wouldn't hurt anything.
And it's so weird. On my GS2, restarting usually fixed it, or the problem usually fixed itself. Hmm...
Anyone else ever run into this? What did you do to solve it or did it fix itself? This has been an ongoing problem. I know sometime before the GE phones came out. LoL!!
And as I type this a 3rd app has been added. Into The Dead. ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sidheinteractive.sif.DR ).
I can't have that. That's my game. LoL!!
To not make OP too long, here's some things I've done so far...
Deleted PlayStore Cache and Data...
Checked to see if ROM Toolbox Pro had Apps2SD set to Auto (and it as already on Auto)...
Wiped Cache and Dalvik Cache in recovery...
Deleted the app and tried to reinstall (Had to recover the app. LoL!!)...
Made SURE I had enough space. (I took a 6GB backup off my phone. I KNOW I have at least 6GB off the bat)
It's a slow growing list of apps. Hmm...
The only thing left is to backup apps and reinstall the ROM, since it works on other ROMs. *sigh* That'll take forever. =.S
SOVLED
I have it fixed. Here's what I did. You NEED root to fix since you have to go to a system folder. I think you can do this without root if you use ADB commands. I don't know remember if the computer version of ADB can navigate to these folders. Anyways...
"Follow this and let me know if it works for you.
First step is go into a file explorer with root access. Second in the root directory click on data, once in the data folder click on app-lib folder. Last step is scroll down to the data folder for the app you are trying to update or install and delete it. Thrn go into the market and try to install"
http://www.techfreestyle.com/io
1st comment on the page.
Steps:
1) You will need root. Go into a file explorer and go to the root folder. (I used Root Explorer)
2) Open the directory named "data".
3) Open the directory named "app-lib"
4) Find ALL the folders of the app you're trying to update or install and delete them.
5) Reinstall or update the app and it should work
I don't know if this will delete the data of the app. I've already deleted the data manually from those apps, so I don't know. Do with caution.
also its just solve the app that u can't install , so its not solving the problem permanently.

You're right. It happened again. But this time these apps had data. The method I mentioned didn't delete the app data. So that's good.
But this means it can happen again. Its a bit tedious deleting them files. I wonder what's causing it. Hmm... Maybe these lib files are suppose to delete on their own, but they don't. =./
IDK...

[Q] Deleted Download Manager.

Hi everyone!
I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace which was running out of memory. I had tried to uninstall some unused applications and move others to the SD card. Still needing space because the low space message kept appearing, I rooted my phone and uninstalled some applications such as the Samsung app store and something called Download Manager.
Now, I figure I shouldn't have uninstalled Download Manager because it was required by Google Play. When I attempt to start Google Play, it closes within a second and gives the error message:
"Sorry. The application Google Play Store (process com.android.vending) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."
After some online research, I tried cleaning the application's data and cache, even uninstalling updates, but to no avail, still get the same message. I read somewhere online that the cause might be the missing Download Manager.
Without resetting my phone to factory settings, is there any way I can reinstall Download Manager onto my phone? Unfortunately I did not create any backups before deleting Download Manager.
Thanks very much!
Appreciate any help offered!

You don't need to do a factory reset (btw a factory reset wouldn't even help ). Just download your rom again and extract the Download Manager.apk and place it under /system/apps/(here) and give the permissioms rwrr. Done!

Blackbox421, thank you very much for your reply! Yes I had a feeling that a factory reset wouldn't solve my problem because the file no longer exists on the handset. Stupid question, but where can I download my ROM from? I'd bought the handset with 2.3.3, and never changed that. Is extracting the Download Manager.apk file difficult too? Do I need special software?
Thanks very much. Appreciate your time!

Hello, my name is Rob and I'm new to XDA but I've used your forums before to help me root my Coolpad and this new phone (kudos)
So I bought this phone a little over a month ago and I've been super severely disappointed in it.
I'll just start off quickly by telling you a little behind my purchase...
I needed to upgrade from the Coolpad 3G that I had been using for months with Sprint's pre-paid and I was planning on getting a Samsung Galaxy.
Well they had to run my credit and I couldn't put down the $200+ deposit they wanted for the S5. So the guy brought up this HTC Desire that was on sale for $99.99 or whatever, without and research or anything I went ahead and bought it because I desperately needed a new phone with 4G capability for my new job... the sales guy sold me on it having 8 GB internal storage (Which was a huge lie... thanks, man), 1 GB of RAM, a solid quadcore processor and a decent camera.
I immediately got home and realized that there was only barely 1 Gigabyte of free storage and I about threw a fit but I knew I needed the phone so I kept it and I took the next step, (Rooting it so I could install and run link2SD)
So I went through the long, tedious process of rooting my phone and putting TWRP, superuser, etc. on it and got my link2SD going.
The day after I finished rooting my phone these errors started popping up and telling me that I had an update I needed to install and download:
(I guess I can't post the pictures I want to post on here until I make 10 posts? so I uploaded screencaps all to this directory)
http :// skakills.com /HTC/
It made it so I can't even use my Gmail or my hangouts app on the phone (Gmail being the most important) this is seriously distressing.
also , this update pops up every few hours and I have tried to install it but it just bounces me back to the recovery TWRP screen and I can't seem to figure it out.
I work a double shift at work every day, I play in 2 bands and I've scoured the internet, forums and lost tons of sleep over this, I just want to be able to use this phone for a few more months without these issues, if anyone has any kind of idea what I can do to fix the errors and get my updates installed or if there is a better option (I'm okay with wiping / resetting since my apps and pictures are all backed up) let me know ASAP, please and thank you very much!

Download an app killer/disabler of your choice (I use Titanium Backup but it's the paid version) after you install it look through all the apps on your phone and find this one "updater" and freeze/disable it and then reboot the updating will stop and the reason you can't install it is because the phone is no longer stock and you unlocked the bootloader.
Regarding the play store problem open internet and search for the latest version of play store and then download the version via internet by searching for the version to download like this Google Play version 5.8.8 APK Download and after downloading the APK install it and reboot into twrp and clear the dalvic cache and cache reboot and the problem should be gone.

I really appreciate the help as far as that update thing goes.
I guess I didn't explain the part with the GMail and the hangout apps.. it is only those apps that are affected, I guess I will try uninstalling the gmail and hangout apps again because I try to launch them but it gives the "Unknown issue with Google Play Services" error and then force closes.
Also every once in a while it is giving me a weird 'Google Music' error .
I will try to freeze that update thing with Titanium backup (I have the full version I got on my old phone I just haven't installed it on here yet)
Once again, thanks a lot I really appreciate the quick response and I hope to check more of the forums out soon.

Okay so I froze the 'Updater' app, rebooted and I think that it has stopped which is good.
I still am getting this Google Play Services Error every few minutes, I downloaded the Google Play .apk , installed it, rebooted into recovery and cleared the dalv and regular cache but I'm still seeing this error come up... I even tried to disable Google Play Services notifications and just accept that it won't ever go away but it is still happening. I'm still not sure of the actual cause of these errors, at least I can use GMail and Hangouts now because I just restored the factory versions.

If I were you, I'd download the entire gapps package (google apps) it's between 150 and 250MB in size and it's a zip so you can install it via recovery I'm pretty sure your problem will go away if you get the updated gapps for your phone.

Yes there is a site but no entire Google apps package is an apk it's in zip format and all you need to do is download it to your sd card and then boot into recovery and tap install then navigate to wherever you saved the download to and tap to select it for installation and after the install go back to the home page and select wipe and then on the next window select dalvic and cache then swipe the bottom to wipe them both and then reboot and you should be good to go.. Here's the package
In this package you will find the core Google system base, off-line speech files, Google Play Store, FaceUnlock, Google Bookmarks Sync, and the following Play Store applications:
Google + | Google Calendar (replaces stock/AOSP Calendar) | Google Now Launcher | Google Play services | Google Search | Google Text-to-Speech | Gmail | Hangouts | Maps | Street View on Google Maps | YouTube

Well alright! , You have been so much help with this so far I really really appreciate this. I'll try this quickly before I go to bed tonight and hopefully it works out and I won't have that extra error notification and those other issues anymore

Just make sure you follow the instructions exactly as I wrote them cause you need to clear the dalvic and cache so don't forget.

Okay I just tried to flash this and got this error:
E: Error executing updater binary in zip '/exter
nal_sd/pa_gapps-modular-mini-4.4.4-20150410-sig
ned.zip'
so I went back and tried it again checking 'Zip file signature verification' and then got another error
E: Zip signature verification failed: 1
Error Flashing zip '/external_sd/pa_gapps-modul
ar-mini4.4.4-20150410-signed.zip
Updating partition details...
...done
attempting again after clearing caches
followed step-by-step as per usual protocol with these things

What rom and kernel do you happen to be using? Try this too though tap settings then apps and look for the Play Store and tap into it and then force close it and then scroll down and delete the data and when it says all user accounts will be deleted or whatever just say yes and then go back to your home and reopen the Play Store and try to use it again after it logs your account back in.
Edit: Do you see Google play services in your app list? Uninstall the update if it says to uninstall update on it and then update it again then try to use stuff.

I feel like maybe something got screwed up when I was rooting and using this custom kernel, I wouldn't mind wiping this phone and trying again from the start but going through the backup and restoring process will be a pain. Everything is painful, lol. I just want to be able to use my apps like normal

You should try pattiboi new kernel that he put up yesterday because it's pretty smooth running and my phone is much better than it was before.. Did you uninstall updates to the Play services and try to update it again?
Edit:
Do you have titanium backup? If so I need you to download this version of Google play services and install it but first use titanium backup to fully uninstall the Google play services that's on your phone.. Here's the link for the Google play services version 8.1.15 make sure you don't tap the one that says get it on Google play store because obviously you can't use the Play Store so tap the one next to it, it looks like this "d Download" after you downloaded it install it and reboot your phone...

yes I have Titanium backup. I'll try this new kernel, yeah I tried to uninstall updates for Play services but there wasn't even an option for it.
I'll download this and run that in titanium before installing

You should try fixing your problem before going to the other kernel.
All you need to do is delete Google play services in Titanium Backup and then download the one I gave you and install and then reboot.
