[ROM] Ubuntu Touch Preview [03/01: Audio fix] - Motorola Droid 4

** Work-In-Progress: Ubuntu Touch Preview is just that.. a PREVIEW. Do not complain about missing features, etc. The OS isn't nearly ready for primetime. **
Curious as to how the Ubuntu Touch Preview looks? Why not load it on your Droid 4 and see for yourself.
Instructions:
1. Make a Titanium Backup and/or backup in recovery of your current Android (or just keep it on a another rom-slot). This preview is fun to play with but not a replacement for something as developed as CM 10.1
2. Download the Bionic Mini-Android base for Ubuntu Touch and place it on your device:
[03/01] http://goo.im/devs/Hashcode/maserati/ubuntu-phablet/ (use the newest one)
3. Download the latest Ubuntu Touch Preview Filesystem .zip from Ubuntu:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch-preview/daily-preinstalled/current/quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip
If the above link is broken, use this link for a full listing of the current build files (download the quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip .. soon to be raring-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip):
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch-preview/daily-preinstalled/current/
4. Reboot into Safestrap. Create a NEW 2GB ROM in the #4 slot.
IMPORTANT:
4a. Install the quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip FIRST, and then the phablet-2013xxxx.zip SECOND.
5. Reboot and Enjoy
FIRST BOOT TAKES A LONG TIME. AND THERE'S NO BOOT ANIMATION. BE PATIENT (MAYBE 3-4 MINUTES).
WHAT WORKS:
Display
Touch screen
Wifi
Audio
WHAT DOESN'T WORK:
There's so much that is still being implemented into the Touch version of Ubuntu, that this list could get pretty long.
Barely any sensors other than touchscreen work. IE: no rotation, etc. Ubuntu WIP issue.
No HD codecs (still being worked on) Ubuntu WIP issue.
No screen timeout / auto blank -- be careful when walking away from the device. Need to press the power button to turn the screen off. Ubuntu WIP issue.

Hash, I love you! I was hoping someone far brighter than I would attempt to port this so I could play with it a bit.

Once again Hash, you are my hero. You are so cool! I am the ultimate Android zealot, but i have to admit that Ubuntu turned my head, and actually made me wonder and consider.... Ubuntu is my daily driver on the laptop anyhow, it is much easier to admin Linux with Linux.

Re: [ROM] Ubuntu Touch Preview [02/28: Alpha Update #1]
Ubuntu is fun to play with, but android it ain't. Cannocal has a long way to go, but I am seeing potential here. I personally am not a fan of gesture based navigation so I found it slightly frustrating to find my way around the os but I'll be keeping an eye on this one.
Sent from my XT894 using Tapatalk 2

Well a preview is def a preview. It was fun to have it running so well! Thanks hash!
I did find the navigation interesting, but it wasn't until I couldn't use my android navigation habits that I realized how much I would miss them.

Hows this coming along? Just curious.
Sent from my DROID4 using xda app-developers app

played around with this alittle today. it was pretty cool running the different interface, but as it was just a preview I am back on Eclipse for now. I am however and this is slightly off the thread topic, trying out 7 Launcher (gives a windows 7 phone launcher style). it is honestly pretty cool and Hash if you get bored of ubuntu/android, maybe a port of windows os would be a different feel?

Is this wip dead?

I installed it the ways you mentoined above.. with the newest: phablet-20130314-cm_maserati.zip
My touchscreen doesn't work at all. So can't do a thing with the install. Is this normal? Is there a solution?
Edit 1: It is working now... a bit more patient did it.
Shame it is not working on my lapdock. Does anyone know how to make this work?

Any news ?
No use of buttons ? phone will work one day ?
Thanks

Last update : Wifi encryption work, camera (really bad quality, no focus) both, but screen is over sized, so can't use call (even if cellular work, i can't try).
When typing a message with non physical keyboard it keep on screen.
But it comes functionnal from day to day, great news.

hmm I wanted to try it today but it only gives me a black screen. I let it boot for half an hour but only black screen.
1st: created Rom-Slot 4
2nd: flashed the raring-......
3rd: flashed phablet-xxxxxxx
4th: wipe cache/dalvik
5th: reboot
and wait for half an hour but nothing else then black screen

Latest SafeStrap?

safestrap 3.11 is installed.
I tried it today for a second time, downloaded all files again.
created rom-slot4
made factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik
flashed the rom
cleared cache and dalvik again.
booted and it simply shuts down now.... it vibrates when the kexec kernel is loaded i think and then it simply shuts down.
I think my phone isnt built for ubuntu^^
But one question: is HDMI working with ubunutu touch? Because I only wanted to install it to use it with HDMI.

Don't use raring... use the specified quantal!
I got it booting and inside the OS... the soft keys
Do not work! Someone had this before and forgot
to purge their information as it had London
numbers in it. The owners name was Lola 0.o
Anyways don't use the raring. You can wipe
do a factory reset and then go from the beginning.
I hope if I helped you would thank me, I spent
a lot of tije figuring this out... again, do not use
the Raring version and it will boot.

Want to check it out, but is it possible to upload to a site that doesn't require signup?
Oh man, you lighted up my day. Yesterday I was wondering: "Why no one followed CNA project?" then signed up on forum and started to check how I can build it myself... now it's here next day. You've got my gratitude. Will check out asap
THANK YOU!

Like ANY OTHER JB/ICS ROM...standard non working issues apply due not having proper drivers from Nvidia
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
If you get camera lag, do the following
1) Open camera app
2) Close it
3) Long press home and swipe it away
4) Repeat steps 1-3 a few times (4-5). It should improve after a few times...after you do this initially, it should stick.
Camcorder isn't working yet....could TRY videocam illusion (I will admit that I haven't tried it yet on any JB build, though)
I got bootloop with this, it worked fine for like 20 min and bootloop started. Restored back to cm7, should I try flashing this again? Pretty sure its my phone and not the rom though.
Could it be that rom's clock is everytime at 1000 Mhz?
Also, if you go to rom settings, someplaces it shows as you've running the rom in a photon device.
I have to research in these two issues so i can send a report.

Hate to be a noob but is there an advantage of this over the CM10 build? I had heard that initially CM10 didn't have butter but I'm not sure if that's fixed or not.

More choices the better I say. Someone might prefer AOSP over CM. I'm personally curious to try some AOKP on tablet. Anyways it's always great to see a device go from basically one rom to having 5 different roms all thanks to the manufacturer releasing code and our faithful devs.
Flashed the nvflash variant and restored apps via Titanium.
Everything is working really great, I prefer clean vanilla over CM and this is just perfect.
Thank you very much khanning!
P.S. Any idea what would have to be done to enable the home button to wake the tablet or what the issue with enabling that is?
I just installed it.
Don't see Google now anywhere.
Is it included?
Thanks.

Also noticed something odd.
Some of the apps don't look optimized for a 10" tablet.
They look more like an app on a 7" tablet like the Nexus.
The Youtube app for instance, has only two rows in the carousel view as opposed to three.
Also, can't find Google search installed in the system.
I can't find Search in the Play store either.
Will it be OK if I just re-flash all Google apps for JB from this link using CWM?

GApps is not a separate package here unlike CM9 or CM10. It is included as part of Khanning's install files, so no need to install them separately.
Because of the absence of Google Search app and the issues with Youtube app not scaling properly, I asked if it is OK to reflash the JB Google apps pack again. Will that overwrite the system apps correctly? I haven't tried it yet. Maybe it is better to wait for Khanning's update.
Works great. Thanks

I have an HDMI cable so I will check when I get home and report back.
So having tried all the recent builds posted by Khanning and Krook, I have gone back to Khanning's CM9 port as I think it is the most stable and has the most features.
Would stick around with CM9 until a more stable CM10/aosp build comes along.
Comparison between Khanning JB AOSP & Krook JB CM10, please?

I am on Krook JB (3g-test) which is based on Khanning's superb K1-CM9 for the past week or so and loving every minute of it even though there are still some issues that currently do not bother yet.
Khanning K1-CM9 is very good and Krook's JB brings it to another level of snappiness, somewhat buttery smooth.
For those who had installed both Khanning JB AOSP & Krook JB CM10, can you kindly do a comparison?
Sorry that I am too lazy to Titanium my K1 then flash then restore and go about all the settings all over again.
Maybe I missed something in the last page or so, but I just installed last night using NVFlash method and auto brightness is working. Has anyone else had similar results or am I alone in this one. I just checked the OP and auto bright is still listed as not working.
I do have to say, I have used Krook's CM JB and I find this as snappy. Nice to have a choice of flavors. Thanks, guys. You do great work.

I understand the idea of safestrap, but I was wondering if you could gimme a quick lowdown on how to use it. I come from a droid 3 and yes safe strap came out for that but I mainly worked with CWM so I'm a lot more familiar with that. Few questions. Do I install recovery once downloaded? And I forgot what safe system is/when it should be used etc. And how to access safe strap to start flashing. All I can think of is bp tools when I think of custom recoveries lol. Thanks in advance!

Ok, so in the new safestrap, make sure you're rooted, go into the app, install, and reboot. Upon booting, you will see a boot up screen with safe system disabled on it. Go into the recovery option by hitting the recovery button on that screen. You'll go into twrp with safestrap settings. Click the rom slots option in the top left. Then choose the first rom slot. Next, choose the partition size. Depending on your sd card size, pick accordingly. It'll take a little while to make the slot but it will. It should switch to that rom slot upon creation, but if not, just click on the rom slot and hit activate. You'll be able to tell because it'll say rom slot one on the top of the screen. Next, you'll have to install the rom by hitting the install button, navigating to the downloads folder, or wherever you have the rom and swiping to install. Next install the gapps and reboot. The safestrap splash screen should look a lot different and say enabled now. If you've done all this, you're golden

I thank you again for your response. I just played around with it a bunch and did a full backup which is always good oh and one more quick question. It should say "safestrap disabled" now because I haven't flashed anything yet right?

Tried it on Aussie unlocked boot loader. Works fine, but it's slow as treacle. Needs optimizing to work on RAZR M properly.

[Nexus 4][MOD] Improve Touch Screen Sensitivity

Hey guys,
The Android 4.3 update for the Nexus 4, in my opinion, has majorly improved the touch screen sensitivity of the Nexus 4, therefore I believe this mod is irrelevant. For those who still want to use it, its still here.
Hey guys,
First of all, I would like to say thanks to trter10 who made the original thread for this. Unfortunately, that thread has been abandoned by the OP and forgotten about. Therefore, I have decided to make this thread. In fact, the mod that I made, in my opinion, is much better than the one in that thread.
As many of us, Nexus 4 users, have come to realize, the device's touch screen sensitivity is way below par when it comes to today's day and age. It has been pointed out that this is due to some changes in the latest touch screen driver from Synaptics, E027. An earlier driver, E015, had much better sensitivity and therefore downgrading to it improves touch screen sensitivity significantly.
There are two ways to downgrade the driver. The first way is the easiest but it doesn't work for everybody, such as people (like me) who use custom kernels like Franco Kernel. I don't know why it doesn't work, but that's the way it is.
First Method:
What You Need:
Root - If you don't have it, go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
A custom recovery - If you don't have it, go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Busybox - If you don't have it, get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox
init.d support - If you don't have, go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1933849
What This Does:
Puts an init.d script in the init.d folder. This script will install the E015 driver on boot.
Places the driver in /system for the script to use.
Instructions:
Extract Method 1.zip.
Boot in to your custom recovery.
Install E015-TouchDriver-Mako.zip
Reboot.
Instructions to Revert:
Boot in to your custom recovery.
Install E015-TouchDriver-Mako-Revert.zip
Reboot.
Notes:
After boot, your touchscreen will be unresponsive for around 30 seconds.
After flashing a ROM, you will need to install this zip again.
I am not responsible for any damage this modification may cause.
Second Method:
What You Need:
Root - If you don't have it, go to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312
Busybox - If you don't have it, get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox
Script Manager - SManager - If you don't have it, get it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.tools.scriptmanager
Instructions:
Extract Method 2.zip.
Using any android file explorer, place SynaImage.E015.bin in /sdcard.
Using any android file explorer, place the E015TouchDriverDowngrade script in any location you want on your internal SD card (I placed it in /sdcard/Scripts).
Go into Smanager, navigate to the E015TouchDriverDowngrade script and press on it.
Select the following options: Fav, Su.
Press Run.
The touch screen will be disabled for the next 15-30 seconds.
From now on, on every reboot you need to perform the following steps in order to downgrade the touchscreen driver:
Go into Smanager, click on options -> Scripts -> E015TouchDriverDowngrade -> Run.
Enjoy!
Notes:
After a reboot, your touchscreen will be unresponsive for around 20 seconds because the kernel is reflashing the new touch screen driver (E027).
After selecting Run your touch screen won't work for 15-30 seconds if it does work, the old touch driver is not being flashed.
I am not responsible for any damage this modification may cause.
Enjoy!

Re: [MOD] Improve Touch Screen Sensitivity
@OP what is different about your zip than the original one in the thread below. Does yours work with 4.2.2 and the original does not? Is that the main difference? If so please state that in your OP. Thanks

Well, from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 they didn't fix it, so probably not.
Works fantastically, thank you!
on aokp build 3 for anyone who's curious.
Will not look back!!
Works as advertised on PA 3.0 (24FEB) I can finally type a message in portrait without it making me feel like I have no clue how to type. I would consistently hit letters and they would not register, just did a test and tapped a whole paragraph with not one error. Thank you very much.
Re: [MOD] Improve Touch Screen Sensitivity
Thanks for this! Going to install this now and try if the delay is shorter. The previous one was annoying that I disabled.
Beamed from my very paranoid and harsh Nexus⁴
Got rid of the 30 second delay being a known issue since it's part of the mod and is mentioned in notes.
I will be away for a week so I won't be able to support the thread for that time, happy flashing!

When you boot into recovery just wait a minute for the touch screen to start responding then carry on as normal.
Whats happening is the touch driver is being reflahed back to 027 one.

[ROM-AOSP] Unofficial CM10.2 (JB 4.3.1) [11/15 CM REFRESH]

Unofficial CyanogenMod 10.2 for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9
*** USE AT YOUR OWN RISK! WHILE I TRY MY BEST TO PROVIDE WORKING KERNELS/ROMS, I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF THIS SOFTWARE OR ANYTHING I'VE WORKED ON SUDDENLY FRIES YOUR DEVICE. ***
BEFORE YOU BEGIN MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A 2ND-BOOTLOADER INSTALLED CORRECTLY AND CAN SEE THE BLUE LOGO DURING BOOTUP:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128175
In this build I do not have the HBOGO or Voice Plus patches yet.
Don't use the user swapping feature yet. It's very buggy. If you do happen to create a new user and swap, to fix the crazyness that happens, just delete the new user and reboot.

(For Android 4.3)
PLEASE BE SURE TO WIPE SYSTEM & DATA/CACHE (FACTORY RESET) WHEN COMING FROM AMAZON STOCK SOFTWARE.
(It's the "Wipe" button and then "System" and then "Factory Reset" button in TWRP -- this does NOT clear your sdcard space)
Be aware that the "sdcard" space has changed slightly from ICS to JB4.2. You will find your stock amazon OS files in /data/media/ or "sdcard" on the Stock OS. But CM10.1 will create a sub directory "/data/media/0" and call that "sdcard". And in TWRP it will also use "data/media/0" as "sdcard". This has to do with multi-user settings. So when placing files on the "sdcard" be sure to check both locations before wondering why that file is missing.
CHANGES:
[11/15] SElinux now included in the kernel and set to permissive. I don't recommend turning it to enforcing as I'm still debugging the "deny" messages.
[08/12] Includes a Trebuchet patch to fix the screen flip-flop when trying to drag an icon in landscape (by XDA user Wickets^)
[08/12] All new "from source" sensor driver
[08/12] Temp. disable light sensor (due to recode of sensor driver)
[07/31] First CM10.2 build
FEATURES:
3.0.50 kernel (up from a stock 3.0.21 kernel). This includes updates from Texas Instruments, Google and Kernel.org.
PowerVR Graphics Drivers: DDK [email protected] for Android (Jellybean compatible)
Updated bltsville libs to 2.2.2.0 (this is partial screen update code which enables smoother / faster screen draws)
Audio
Camera
Wifi
Bluetooth
Sensors
HWAcceleration
HD Codecs for YouTubeHD and Netflix
HDMI video out is now correct and work across several resolutions. YMMV
DEVS
BUILDING THIS ROM:
First, read through Google's Android website about "how to setup a build environment":
http://source.android.com/source/initializing.html
[ COMING SOON ]
SCREEN SHOTS:
CURRENT KNOWN ISSUES:
When long pressing icons in landscape mode to move them, etc the screen will flip upside down for a moment and right itself. This causes the action to be aborted.
Rotation selection in games is hit and miss. Some work perfectly and some like to flip the device upside down. Still debugging what is causing this.
AUDIO: Any decoder which uses Dolby surround current has a lower volume than the rest of the system (Netflix, Google Movies, etc). It's a WIP.
Sensors: Testing various sensors, gyro seems 90 degrees off, etc.
I don't have an LTE version so this is not enabled in current builds.
Are you going to keep on developing both this and the 4.2.2 ROM? Or should we switch to this ROM for the newest updates in the future?
By the way, thanks very much for all the effort you are putting in developing for and improving our devices. We all really appreciate it.

I will probably continue with the 4.2.2 builds until I feel like this has fully caught up with them.
Some apps for instance are not compatible w/ 4.3 yet (one of the movie players).
Omg. That is all. =)

Same here.
I am thinking about building the rom with LTE (hash says the code is all there) from the source. But I haven't used Linux from 2010 and have to setup the gear for doing this...em...
I also would like to get 4g LTE working. If you could dust off linux and put your skills to work, I am sure many will appreciate your efforts!
I am working on an experimental built for LTE users.
As soon as I get a ROM built, I'll post it up. There is a 100% chance that it's going to take quite a few tries to get it working. So not for the easily irritated.

Double check you're flashing the right GApps.
There seems to be an issue with the 'sdcard' link under Root - It is currently pointing at /data/media/legacy instead of /data/media/0 - This is causing some issues with apps that default to 'sdcard' including TitaniumBackup. Also, there is a 'Storage' under Root that points somewhere, which is causing issues with apps that default to '/storage' for their backup.
Status of this rom on my Kindle:
- as mentioned in changelog games are slower then on 10.1
- on 10.1 and 10.2 there are ocassions the screen rotation bug is still occuring. It happens within some games and after rotating in mx player.
Thanks and keep up your excellent work.
hi,
i'm new with Kindle Fire HD. tried this rom too and i think its very good :fingers-crossed:
gapps failure
Interesting issue going on here. i upgraded to this build (10.2-20130731-UNOFFICIAL-jem, and the latest Gapps to go with it. Note that i did not do a complete wipe, as i wanted the installed apps to remain. Upon reboot, i have a notification from pretty much every app i have installed on the device that "update for "(application name) could not be downloaded due to an error. (error retrieving information from server.[RPC:S-5:AEC-0]) i ge the same error if i try to download anything from the play store also. any thoughts?
Edit: restored back to previous backup, allowed all updates to take place first, then redownloaded the rom and gapps. A quick reflash using goo manager and everything seems to be working now. @Hashcode - another fantastic rom. only issue i still have the the screen rotation when long pressing icons in landscape mode. a very small price to pay for all the awesomeness.
