Hey everyone,
just woundering if there is a way that something like this could be made for our DHD
This was made for the HD2:
http://www.xda-developers.com/windo...0-1-use-your-volume-keys-as-a-camera-trigger/
I believe the app "vignette" has the ability to enable this feature, if you don't mind switching programs.
There is an app called volume key camera
Code:
xxx .androidzoom.com/android_applications/media_and_video/volume-key-camera_pffj.html
but kept getting FC , and have moved to camera 360, in which I can take pict by touching the screen itself
I found the best app for it and have been using it for a while now and very happy with it. It's called "pro capture". Hope this helps if anyone else is looking for one
Sent from my HTC Desire HD
in Cyanogenmod In the camera app you can use the volume buttons to zoom in and out also to make the search button capture pictures
It's too bad that the DHD doesn't have a camera button.
In fact I would wish to have something that turns the camera app on when pressed and takes a picture on long press for example.
The volume keys are good to some extent but not enough and will never replace the real camera button functionality.
power button idea
wonder if anyone could make power button as camera
I like the idea of using the volumes keys for zoom, that sound cool
I just finished replacing my volume rocker after it simply fell off following normal usage. I personally would not want to suggest doing anything which would make you use the key more. It's quite flimsy. Definitely the weak point in the design.
I know it has been discused on other phones that also dont have a camera button but i failed to get the answear i was looking for. So it is possible to modify the power button to be used as camera button while in camera app and still remain a power button in the other apps?
Rly sry i wanted to post this in thr Q&A Section but i accidentaly posted here if anyone can move it pls do so.
I think you would need some kind of app (or even a custom rom/root). I have never seen that done, but in theory it could be possible
No, well yes, but remapping that would mean you would have no power button. And it would be a lot harder to try and get it to only be when the camera is open, so the solution is to: instead of wanting the power button to control camera, why not use the volume buttons instead?
You can try button remapper(ing) I forgot the exact name, its an app. I forgot where I got it from. Only thing is I've never tried it on this phone so I'm not sure if it'll work or not.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App. Developer of brickROM, and OP of XDA Thread of The Year 2011.
CM7 has this featrure. You can use volume buttons or power button to take a photo.
If you can do it without the standard app, you could try this: https://market.android.com/details?...DEsIm5ldC5tcnBsdXMuYW5kcm9pZC5kZWZ5cGhvdG8iXQ..
You kind of need a power button - unless you are talking about really changing the behavior.
i think the OP wants a temporary change in the behavior of the button (i.e. only acts like a camera button when you have the camera app open and are using it). That should be entirely possible given the fact it was already mentioned as a feature in CM7, which is now "old"
i would actually appreciate that. obviously its a pain to take pictures of yourself with the back camera without camera button.
it would be great if some kind of addon would change the power buttons function as long as the camera app is opened.
I am going to attempt to remap the outside keys for when the camera is being used to allow non-touchscreen controls as well. I don't know if anyone has tried or started work on this idea yet, but I will give it a go and post results and the update.zip on here once it is good to go.

Not to stir the thread off topic, but can i just say how moto seemed to finally get the camera right? I cant believe how fast it starts up. It still has some of the weird focus isssues, but switching between modes, taking pics.. ive ditched my purchased apps in favor of the default camera.
I agree. It definitely runs so much smoother than in previous renditions. I just want to have a method for taking a picture via non touchscreen. Miss the dedicated camera button. Will be working on this during the week and hopefully will have it done and up by the weekend.

what would you use? traditionally, the volume keys were the zoom in/out and the camera button took the pic. maybe something on the keyboard? have you tried the OK button?

The "ok" button does take pictures, but then you need to have the keyboard out. I'm going to attempt to remap the power button to take the picture (as most people wouldnt be turning off the screen while the camera is on) and keeping the volume buttons as the zoom in/out as it currently is.

THIS WOULD BE PERFECT!!! Let us know what you come up with.
Thanks!
This is already possible by default, if I understand your question correctly.
In the ICS build (at least .215, not sure about earlier versions) there is a "Volume Key Function" option in the stock camera settings. You can use this to set the volume keys to 'Capture' instead of 'Zoom'. As I never use digital zoom, this already works great for me!

In that case, never mind and good luck
On my ME863 I installed a 3rd party camera app just because of the "volume button = shutter" function, and it was nice to see there was no need for that on the Droid 4!

Hi I will have my Xperia Z soon, and I will give a "donation" to the one that makes this phone take pictures with hardware button!
Is it possible or Impossible to make this mod on this phone?

It would be awesome if vol-up+vol-down started the camera and if powerbutton was the Button you capture with

Anybody up to the task?
Don't understand what you are talking about
You can do it with Tasker with Volume buttons. You'll lose zooming capability though.
Camera zoom app can do it without and problem.
Now where is my bounty

Ho-ho-hold up one second there.
Please elaborate!!
You modded this?
Does the camera need to be running in the backround in order for this to work correctly?
Due to the current situation where the camera takes several seconds to start, I have a sneaking suspicion...
I'm not the type to photograph everyone and everything.
Still, the camera is at the top of my list when it comes to apps you need quick access to.
Since this would only be useful for that superquick shot, I would keep my camera shortcut just a gesture away.
Anxiously awaiting reply:fingers-crossed:
How does it work please? I mean does the screen have to be off from camera app and then vol down takes the picture. No other way? I was hoping to have the power button focus and / or take the picture / start/stop video rec while and only while the camera app is active.

So.. if it works without being a backround process, this might also be stable in stamina mode?
Or am I just talking out of my a**?
Take your time, this is potential gold

I support this and am willing to join this "donnation" team.
Hello,
I have a good and a bad news:
The good
Just finish a bêta version of the MOD
no fast capture on standby mode for the moment...but I'm working on it
The bad
Sony set the capture action only if (focus + camera) button are press together
So you need to press volume UP for focus...and volume DOWN to take the picture.
I'm working on it in order to find how to remove this condition
Installation:
Just replace SemcCameraUI.apk in /system/app with rw-r--r-- permission and reboot

Enjoy

guess you cant put two actions on the same button ? ^^
And it won't be possible to lock the button as pressed until you press another button, and after button is pressed change the action of the button ?

I have 5 button softkey already with xposed framework but I want to have power button softkey how can I do that? please help
Not sure I have seen that mod anywhere
It is possible to remap a different hardware button for that, for example I use volume up as my power button
With a soft key it would also be impossible to power on the phone...

does xposed go down to hardwarelevel?
sure you can remapp your power button while android is turned on, due to the layers between hardware and UI. but as soon as it's powered off your power on button should work the normal way.
i don't really know, but im curious
No, I have to use the power button to turn on, that's why I said it would be impossible with a softkey
However, I can use the volume up button to wake the device like power button does. You wont be able to do that with a softkey
thanks all
I'm already on it, figure it out how
thanks anyway

I use my volume up button for the power button all the time, the only thing it wont do is turn it on, it will wake, send to sleep and long press brings up the reboot menu

Why did you have to do that? Is your power button dying?
Kinda worried now... does this happen a lot on the Z1? The phone can't be that old, it's been out for 12 months!?

firstly I did because I could. I like playing around and changing stuff
But also when I hold my phone my thumb naturally goes to that spot, so I thought why not change the button..

Ah ok. Very true. The power button's position is a bit awkward in that respect. Bit difficult to press when using just one hand, either left or right.
I guess Sony assumed everyone would use such a big phone with two hands at all times.
