For your own safety: make a nandroid backup, then proceed!
Get ROM toolbox (pro or lite) from the market and use the built-in build.prop Editor on the second tab.
Add the following line at the end
qemu.hw.mainkeys=0
Save, exit and reboot.
***
You can use a root capable file explorer which should then set the correct permissions as well. 644 / rw- r-- r--
***
Be sure of typing it correctly as you will end up in a bootloop and will have to flash the ROM again, if there are typos!

I am using rooted JVU firmware and would like to install ICS keyboard to my system/app.
I used Root Explorer to copy the apk file into the directory and did a reboot, and the keyboard appeared on my locale and text menu.
However, when I try to select the keyboard, it always return a force close.
Can anybody teach me on how to solve this issue?
There is a thread called "How to: Push apps(.apk)" - you will have to try to use the search function for that name cause I don't think I can post a link yet

You can also try an app called "system cleanup". I'm not sure if it's on the market but there is a thread where you can dl it or you could use titanium pro

Ics keyboard is made to work on android 4.0.x framework ported from Nexus S, ok?
As you revealed in OP you are using Sammy JVU 2.3.6 TouchWiz infected framework.
Why not try to rip out HTC keyboard and push that too while you're in the mood?
When you push an ask to system/app am I write in saying it does not deleted in factory reset..??
What about pushing to system system/media..??
When pushing an apk to system folder,u need root and there is 2 easy ways, either use a root explorer and just push it to the system/app folder or use titanium backup to revert to system app.factory reset(full wipe) doesn't wipe system apk,but everthing else is wiped..
U can also push apk to system via ADB.but a little bit of knowledge is needed

1) make sure u r on safe kernel
2) full wipe/factory reset
3) wipe cache/dalvik
4) format /system /data /preload (may not be necessary, but nothing wrong in doing)
5) flash ICS rom & then safe kernel..
Can u give a link for a safe kernel nd a ics rom.......also can u give an apk for s note and polaris office

Snote_Q1.apk >data/app
Snote_Q1_Provider.apk > system/app
SMemo_Q1.apk > system/app

right click on the file you added, select permissions. and the permission should be 644. root explorer is an app. to know what is 644, just check the permissions of another file in that folder. reboot and check again
Is there any way how I can disable my 3 physical buttons, and trade them for 3 software buttons?
Please be more specific, at least tell us what ROM you're using...

i think someone was able to do this by adding a code to the build.prop.

to disable the button remap they!
Use "button remapper" (search it on google cause isn't on play store) and assign "focus" to home, back and menu buttons.
The app is simple to use and the values to change are last in the list.
focus work only when you are on camera app.

I have the same question, is a bit tricky to press home and power button to take a Screenshot everytime, and im om Stockrom becuase i like it =P
i have a rooted SIII Mini, there is a way to add the Screenshot menu ?
Yes it is possible but no one's gonna bother with that cause most of us are using Vanilla version of Android.

just used the search and this is what i found
i can help you to do it, but i won't be adding this feature to any of my work

it's not hard, just takes a bit of time to learn and lots of research to understand how
So, first post here because I can't seem to find the solution (as I normally can)... but, I was using the CM App installer that allows you to install some CM apps on any ROM, and it crashed in process and my messaging app was deleted. I use Sliding Messenger, but it won't send MMS now. How can I get the stock app back?

Go to the development tread and there are system dumps for the different carriers. Download the Mms.apk and the Mms.odex
Push them into the system/app folder
Sent from my XT1058 using xda app-developers app
I already got the system dump, but I don't know how to "push" it through. I assume it's with adb but I've never had to go that route. If someone could easily direct me the process for that, it would be great! (I will still be searching on my own too)

I read up on it last night and that's how I attempted it. I was successful at pushing the app into system/app and then install it, but it would just force close immediately after opening. I'll keep digging to see what else I can do

change the write permission using root explorer or es file explorer. click on it or long press and go to more in es file explorer. then click on properties.. change it to -rw -r -r like the rest of the system apk and odex files. This should fix your problem.
