When connected to Windows through USB, the device shows up as 'xperia z' in mounted devices giving me the possibility to perform file operations without having to unmount memory on the phone itself. However this kind of file handling comes with huge limitations.
Therefore I'd like to mount the memories as usual as sd cards, however when clicking in the notification bar on 'Internal storage & SD card' nothing happens (as in the notification area just closes on me) - can't put the phone into the desired mode. What am I missing?
Kind regards.

You can only mount the external sdcard natively though. The internal storage cannot be accessed this way.
+1
Have you tried THIS

Hi there,
Anyone know a way to remount the sd card after it has been unmounted. I find the sd card becomes unmounted sometimes and other times I accidentally unmound the sd card in the settings. However I can't find anyway to remount the sd card other than resetting the phone. I was thinking that perhaps theres a command I can use in the terminal, perhaps someone more knowledgeable of linux could help me with this one. Cheers.
Alan
the command
mount sdcard
lets you access the sdcard through adb and Terminal if thats what you're after? From there you can just cd sdcard and do what you want.
using this still shows your sdcard as unavailable in settings though, and you still can't listen to music/view pictures.
edit: after using this on my phone i needed to actually turn the phone off and back on again to get the sdcard working. maybe not the best thing to use. ><
no its not terminal access of the sd car i was looking for. Occasionally I open an application on the phone and find the sd card is inaccessible because its been unmounted. I wasnted to find a quick way of remounting it so the phone sees it as available, without restarting the phone.
make sure your cover is all the way closed. That solved my unmounting problem.
Remounting SD Card
If you have it connected to your computer via USB, just drop down the system status bar at the top of the page and select the USB item. This will pop a message that gives you the option to "Mount" or "Don't Mount" your SD card.

omg look at the date?
I have some large files on my internal SD card (mainly app back ups)
How would I be able to transfer/move that file (it's a zip) from my internal to my external ?
USB mass storage ? I tried this and nothing showed up on my computer.
What do I mount / unmount etc
Er are you serious? have you tried moving it with "my files".. hold on the item till a menu pops up.. guess not.

I have this peculiar problem, sometimes my sd card wont auto-mount.
Thats not really a issue since its easily fixed, but the thing is that when the sd card is not mounted, another folder is used in its place.
so when i try to access the sd card i go to /mnt/sdcard/_externalsd/
Sometimes i get the correct sd card contents, but sometimes i get another folder, containing stuff and photos that ive been placing there when the sd card was not present.
This eats my internal memory and i cannot find this non-mount-folder when the sd card is mounted.
So i wonder, is it possible to disable read/write to this default non-mount folder so it appears as if the sd card isnt present (when it isnt) instead of as it is now, faking a virtual sd card?
Just unmount your sd card then copy the files from externel/ to some backup folder on your internal sd . To get the mounting issue fixed you could mount your sdcard on a pc and format it with the standart system tool , just rightclick the sdcard once its mounted and select format, dont do quick format dunno if thats also gonna work
No auto amount is also due sometimes to a recovery reboot from Rom Manager directly
Happened to me
Entering in recovery with on/off and vol down solve it
ok, just reflashed to streakdriod and things are nice and quick. I am looking to see how the storage works, setup some apps2sd, etc. I have an 8G SD card in that's completly empty. When plugged into my MAC I do see it available and empty. So I remove it, plug it into the streak and do the following
I select settings/storage and see the following;
Internal:
Total Space 0.00
Applications 90.67MB
MicroSD:
Mount external Storage
When I select Mount external Storage I get a quick display which looks like a breakout of pictures, etc. then it returns to that same screen. So is there a market app I can use, or a specific file system I have wrong, etc.
Also, when I plug into the streak, select mount the mac shows the mounted drive with the following info;
Format: MS-DOS (FAT32)
Capacity: 13.07GB
Available: 13.06GB
So here is my confusion. I am guessing the streak comes with an internal 16G, and the avail partition for my stuff is 13G. But why can't I mount that external? Also, can you use an apps2SD and use the internal 13G avail?
Thanks
Hello Guys !
The internal SD card partition is ****ed up and it shows as "unmounted".
I tried a lot of things, including connecting the phone to computer and formating the damn internal storage, but when i plug the USB cable, the phone says that don't have SD card and don't allow full access or Mass Storage.
I tried some programs and file explorers who claimed that can format partitions. No one of them did works.
I tried from the settings of the device to format the internal storage, but i can't change or touch anything, because it shows the internal storage as "unmounted".
I flash it to the stock rom but in the process of flashing, it don't even touch anything in the partition table and after the flashing, the internal SD card is still "unmounted".
Is there any program, tool, way to repartition the partition table on the device ?
I have searched for that in google and i didn't find anything of that sort for Xperia X8.
My other phone, LG Optimus 2X for example, it have AIO toolkit and from there i can change his partition table as i want.
I doubt in that i can't do the same on Xperia X8.
What can i do in this case ?
By "Internal SD card partition" do you mean the Data partition?
Yes.
Are you sure? Does your phone boot? Are you able to install apps?
I mean... that partition where the other data like music, videos, files for apps are stored in there or the partition that file managers sees.
And now this partition is broken and unmounted. The phone show stupid errors everywhere, of the type of "Put your SD card to make photos" or "No SD card" in every app that store data...Now i can't do nothing, i can't even transfer one song and set it as default rington.
But the phone starts up successfully and i have no problem with installing apps from the old "Android Market".
Then that would be your Externel MicroSD Card. If you take the back cover off your phone it should be in the top right corner.
Try taking it out and using an MicroSD card adapter to connect it to your pc and format it.
Or use an app called "AParted" from the Play Store to format your MicroSD Card(Root access required).
No. The phone don't have inserted SD card. I am talking about the "internal SD card". As far as i know, the partition that the file managers sees is the partition left for free data storage, and that is not the whole memory, there is another partition that is hidden and is for the system files for android.
So, the phone boots up and "works" but i need to make repartitioning, but i don't know how to do it on this phone and what is the procedure if there is a way.

The phone has 2 main partitions one is System(For OS related files and folders) and the other one is Data(For Apps and App Data), No File Manager can see whats in them(Unless you have Root Access). The only thing that would be visible to your File Manager would be whats in your MicroSD Card. If you don't have a MicroSD Card you will not be able to save any pictures or videos or any thing like that(Just like any other Android Phone with a MicroSD Card Slot)
So, this phone uses the whole internal memory for the system ? And its required to put a microSD card to be able to use the phone ?
All my android phones has a partition for free storage and i am suprised of that i can't storage anything without SD card.
This Phone only has 250MB of Internal Storage and it uses about 128MB for System. That leaves you with around 122MB to install Apps. The Phone is 100% Usable without a MicroSD Card, the only thing you will not be able to do is Save any type of External File(Video. Audio, ect.)
