[Q] Rooting + Volume - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok,
I have had my note for some time and I am happy with the device out of box.
How ever since using my note there has been one big issue the really poor low sound. I am thinking this is down to the EU law if I remember correctly that limits the max setting to 50db.
So before I start rooting my phone is there any way to increase volume past the default setting as my music is just to low for my liking and I wont be blaming my very expensive Bose headphones for it.
Next will rooting actually help me to increase volume in some way past the default setting.
----
Extra Information
This device is not rooted and I am about as computer savvy as a dinosaur so if rooting does help can you link me to the most stupid person friendly way to do so [There are so many different ways and threads about this I was not sure what method is best and easiest]
I have tried apps on this non rooted note and so far no volume boost app has actually seemed to make a difference.
The phone says I am running the following
Android 4.0.4
Build Number IMM76D.XXLRK
and kernal version
3.0.15-N7000xxlrk-cl811902

Thank you in advance

2.when the logo comes up,release it.
3.choose update from zip and go to the file that u have downloaded.choose that file and reboot..
VIOLA..
P.S : in stock recovery mode volume up and down are used for navigation and power button for selection.
OTHER THAN THAT.refer to this thread..i suggest extensive reading :F http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997

there are apps like vodoo louder and awsome beats that may help increase the volume. though i havent noticed a significant difference but its better.

The code works on my note I just aint getting any options and I wondered if this was due to it not being rooted.

[Q] eclair live wallpapers

Just got my Galaxy S up and running on AT&T. It's the unbranded phone - not a captivate.
What is the best stable rom right now? I read about the official version codes, but I'm confused as to JR, JP, JM, etc.
At this point I just want something that's fast and works, so probably something 2.1 based. Later when I have more time I'll play with Froyo.
[Q] SGS South American Version will come whit DIGITAL TV reception
Guys, d u think there is gonna be a way to do it whit software changing, like flashing the SA firmware, or the phone needs a hardware part to receive the T signal ?
[Q] Laggy pinch-to-zoom
Hi everybody!
When i use the pinch-to-zoom function in my browser (the default browser on SGS), it's very slow. It is very laggy and not fast at all. Is there a fix for this or have I missed something?
please help!
Think you've answered your own question there.
If you want it on 2.1 install launcherpro or something.

[Q] Battery Drain on Mimocan Lag Fix
Hello all
I have noticed that my battry drain very fast after I applyed the Mimocan lag fix with a Sandisk 16 gb card Class 2 (all thanks to Mimocan for this lag fix. Apps run much smoother).
The main problem is when the phone goes in to standby. Last night it drained 22% even with all sync action diabled and all apps killed. Before the lag fix I did only see a 2-4% drop in battery over night.
To compare it drained more then a 15 min call I made before I went to sleep (35% vs 25% of total battery used. I pulled it out of the charger 5 min. before the call, so the data should be correct)
When the phone is activated, it seem like the battery drain is about normal.
I wonder if all/most ppl have this problem or is it just me?
My guess is that the SD card is activated all the time to acces apps data, and thus drain the battery.
Im on the m2 software, but I dont know if its the software or just a common issue when doing this lagfix?
Give a comment, Thx.
[Q] What drivers are needed for Odin?
Like other people, I'm having extreme difficulty connecting my SGS to PC with USB. I have tried just about everything mentioned in the forums, including:
-USB drivers from Kies and other sources (like the ATT Captivate drivers). Usually the Kies downloaded package installs all, but it cannot find the samsung modem driver when I plug in the phone. The Captivate drivers could not find "USB gadget". I tried installing both.
-Reformatting SD card (actually allows me to connect to 91 Panda PC Helper in -debug mode... but that's it)
-Erasing all references to Nokia and Motorola using Regedit. However I did not erase references to Samnsung or Windows Mobile)
-Praying to the creator
-Sacrifice of chicken
-Starting phone while connected to USB
-turning off antivirus.
I tried flashing phone using odin, in download mode, but it seemed that odin could not see my phone. Nothing happened.
Anyone have other ideas?
[Q] Lagging in ALL KINDS of music player after flashing samset1.9
I dont know if it is just an issue only to me, but I am having lags in any music player i tried after flashing samset 1.9.Generally the device runs other apps really fast but the sound and music lags all the time except when I leave the device be to just playing the music. I am using ext4 for a2sd fix. Dont know anyone is having the same problem
[Q] open img files from ClockworkMod Recovery?
Does anyone know a way to open the backup img files created by ClockworkMod Recovery?
[Q] Is the latest fix completely safe for device longterm?
Some people are wary of the stress caused by the latest fix, I am very very new to smartphone's in general and wanted the honest opinions of those who truly know android/device hardware.
There is a lot of well intentioned misinformed posters in any forum. But these things are important to get correct, I would much rather wreck my external 32GB card than the actual phone internal memory.
[Q] Busybox not installing
Hey all,
I am having a problem with busybox. According to the 1.18 installer, I have 1.15.3 installed. But the installer won't let me upgrade because 'the nand is not unlocked'. When I try the older 1.17 version, I suddenly have no busybox installed and have the same message with the failed instalation. What can I do....
Running jm5 with samset 1.9 (ext 3/4 fix not applied).
Alvast bedankt.
[Q] Wake the phone using Menu, Home or Back button?
Like the title says. Does anyone know if there's a way to wake the phone up using the Menu, Home or Back button like they've been able to do with the Desire and Nexus One?
Reference:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696907&goto=newpost
Samsung placed the power button at an awkward place. I assume it wouldn't be too hard to accomplish this. Probably using an app or coded into custom ROMs?
EDIT: Don't have the phone yet but so I assumed it couldn't do it like the Desire. it seems you can wake the phone with Home and Power. I think the thread above details how to enable/disable the other buttons in waking the phone as well. Looks like a simple editing of the keyboard layout and then pushing it back. Thanks.
[Q] Still lag in Contacts and Phone even with Quadrant score 2106
I am now having Quadrant score of 2106 after using RyanZAEXT2Lagfix Alpha1. It is a huge increase. However, i still notice the annoying lag in CLOSING of application such as CONTACTS and PHONE. Opening of these application is also not as seemless as in Desire HTC sense which I previously own.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
[Q] No missed calls, sms, emails showing on icons
Last rom to work was a froyo rom, now any rom i put on dose not show a numeric sign to how many sms, emails or missed calls have not been read, please dose anyone know why?
[Q] ODIN questions
Hi there,
Could anyone tell me what will happen if I did the following:
I checked around but I don't think these minor questions have been covered in the big FAQ
Is it necessary to apply repartitioning when updating to a new firmware?
Will you corrupt data if you upgrade just 'modem' or 'csc' on ODIN?
Will you retain all your data if you don't go for repartition when updating to new firmware?
I've successfully flashed 2 new firmwares. One of them was Russian (jm5) and I was told a bit after than I can just apply the jm1 csc. Anyway, I got over it and just reflashed back to JM2 as it was stable enough.
Thanks
[Q] Headphones and micro issue
Hi,
I am the happy owner of HiDefDrum (+micro) - by atomic floyd - headphones I bought originally for my iPhone. It worked great with the iPhone 3G 16Go (sound, microphone and button).
Now I bought a Samsung Galaxy S last week, and I have problems with my headphones.
If I plug the headphones completely, the sound is weird when I listen to music (as if I heard only an echo of the sound, I don't even hear the voice of the singer) unless... I press the headphones button ! Then the sound is normal.
I can listen to a normal sound when I do not plug the headphones completely (leaving the last part of the plug outside).
And in any case, the microphone does not work.
I thought it was a hardware problem, until I saw that we can access many configuration settings using the code *#*#197328640#*#*
I guess the problem can be solved by modifying some settings in this menu, but I have no idea which !
Can anyone help ?
[Q] Question before drastic measures :) experts please
Hi Guys
I have tried all sorts of lag fixes on this forum, but after installing a couple of apps (10 to 15 in my case). The telephone is sluggish and laggy.
Yesterday i got fed up oflag fixes and firmware flashing hoping that the next version will be the solution so i put it on one of the online selling websites
I really like the way the phone looks and its amazing hardware but i am really not sure whether to keep it or sell it
Everyone keeps saying that the froyo 2.2 update will solve all the problems, so would you guys recommend holding on to the phone till end of september till the froyo is released, or should i sell it now and minimize my losses and try some other mobile phone
Is it true that 2.2 is gonna do its magic regarding lag and the time it takes to load an app, or am I having high expectations
[Q] Couple of newbie questions :)
Greetings fellow Friends from Galaxy
I just moved myself from the HTC Magic section to this one.. It was quite a jump, the Galaxy S Camera and 4inch screen are AWESOME =)
I have a few noob questions that I don't want to spread through many posts, so i've chosen to get them all here, without polution this forum section. Also they might come in handy for future Galaxy S buyers!
My phone is: 2.1-update1 @ I9000XXJF5
Question #1
Well at first glance everyone's trying to fix the "LAG PROBLEM"... I haven't noticed any lag!! What are we talking about? If its a fix.. i want it too
Question #2
The phone came with Android 2.1, but at samsung-firmwares.com and at this dev section of the forum, i saw the JP3 Froyo release. How stable is this? Is it already a daily driver or a total beta? As an Android lover, i'd love to have the latest
Question #3
I've used the One Click rooting solution and then the ROM Manager Clockwork to boot into clockwork rom and make a full-system backup. In my HTC Magic i had the recovery ROM (Amon_RA) flashed into the internal phone memory, so even if i didn't have a ROM installed, i was ALWAYS able to boot into recovery. That was a safety plus. How can i flash the Clockwork Recovery directly to my phone, without the ROM Manager? I'd feel more secure if i could count on recovery even if, for example, i flashed a non-working system ROM.
Question #4
So what is YOUR favourite ROM? My stock has some unwanted apps, and even worse, it's Eclair. I'd like to switch soon, but i don't know these Galaxy S ROMs Tell me what's the best ROM for you!
Thanks guys, XDA is indeed the #1 place for mobile stuff
Cheers

[Q] Poor Sound Quality

This would fall under the don't fix something thats not broke category.
Sound quality was great on my phone with 2.3.3 JVK, but after reading the great reviews on Voodoo sound, I was interested in seeing how much better it could get. After flashing the Voodoo sound driver (came with voodoo control plus 1.0.5) any sound through multiple types of headsets is distorted and almost sounds like the volume is automatically limited (Any high notes or low bass is either completely cut off, or the volume limits when the note hits). Sound quality after this flash is horrible to unusable. The odd thing is that even if I unload the voodoo driver, the sound is still awful. ANY help at all would be greatly appreciated!!
**EDIT** Just to add, I have tested the volume levels to make sure they were not to high in the application. The distortion/limiting happens even if set to a very low volume.
Phone Info:
Model:Samsung Galaxy S i9000m Vibrant
Firmware Version:2.3.3
Baseband Version:I9000UGKC1
Kernel Version:2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVK-CL75655\[email protected] #2
Build Number:GINGERBREAD.XXJVK
Clockwork Recovery v3.0.0.5
CWM Manager v1.20
Superuser v2.3.1-ef
Softkey Backlight Fix
CRT-OFF Animation Mod
All was good before flashing voodoo sound.
How are you controlling your volume?
The best results, will be to max out the phone media volume completely.
Go into Voodoo Sound control and tick "map volume kies hack" and the volume will be controlled by that.

Firstly, when did you buy Voodoo Control Plus? Cos 1.0.5 is an old version the current version is version 2.0 Beta2-4.
Secondly, what did you flash? All you need for Voodoo Control Plus is root, it loads the module on reboot. Did you reboot after unloading the driver?
I'm running the current version on JVB with no problems and I've previously flashed the Voodoo soundmod kernels on three other phones (Froyo) and they all sounded amazing afterwards.

When you use Voodoo Control Plus you're not flashing anything! All it does is load a module, which is the reason it needs root btw. No need to reboot either. If that doesn't work for whatever reason, you can just unload the module again.
Conclusion: Either you made a mistake or you're a troll. Did you try to use the VCP module with a kernel that has (an older version of) Voodoo compiled in by any chance?
ok.....slow down guys. Noob-Yes, Troll? not likely. Heres the thing, I cannot remember what I used to get this on my phone. The one thing I can tell you is it came from somewheres on xda. Also, I have maxed out the phone volume, and enabled the Keys hack. No difference. Even if I un-load the module, the sound improves "slightly" but is still "volume limited" somehow. The only way I can explain it, is if the song has a loud part, the phone seems to automatically limit the volume, also all low range (bass) audio seems to be missing from any song regardless of weather the module is loaded or what audio settings are enabled.
You know the best way you guys could help me out? Tell me if it is safe to upgrade to the newest gingerbread. The reason I ask this is:
1.I have installed the "new" bootloaders from the JVK 2.3.3 (I believe stock) rom, but then I have the clockwork mod on top of that and the phone is rooted, also flashed the softkey fix and the crt off animation. ALSO, i had to flash the BELL KC1 modem to get the 850mhz band to work here in cape breton. I just need to know what needs to be done to make it safe to flash the newest stock firmware.
2.I just want to rid the phone of the voodoo mod and stay as far away from it as I can. I'm thinking flashing the newest firmware will help me do this.
3. I have searched multiple topics and I am just having a hard time getting a stright answer on what needs to be un-modded/removed/etc to make it safe to upgrade.
I really didn't mean to come off as a "troll".

I don't think anyone can help you without knowing what you did to your phone and what's on it right now. The only solution I can see would be a factory reset and a full (including bootloaders) stock 2.2.1 ROM flashed via Odin. Then you at least have a known-good baseline configuration and can go from there.

You don't have a clue about what you're doing, that's fine. Do a little reading and all will be well. But there's no need to blame Voodoo (or any other mod).
I think you might have took this whole thing the wrong way. This is why I don't ask many questions and only have input if I think it will help. Sorry to have affended anyone. I wasn't blaming voodoo at all, I was just saying that all was fine before I installed it. It IS most likely my mistake. Thanks to "those" that helped. I'm just going to re-flash 2.3.3 JVK stock, as I know it worked before. I only started the thread to see if anyone ran into the same thing or had any better ideas than reflashing.
Also to those that questioned, the voodoo mod was the only thing I did to my phone that I didn't fully research before implementing. I'll take this as a lesson.
Hi!
What is your transaction number, for Voodoo Control Plus?
I have no idea, it was all in one thing that I found on a forum which probaly wasn't the best thing to do. I reflashed the phone to froyo and then back to 2.3.3 and without any mod's the sound works great. I would say this had nothing to do with voodoo, and 100% me not researching how to install it.

Okay so please send me the link to what you found with a pirate version of Voodoo Control Plus.
I'm not sure of the link it was a while ago. Had I of known it was pirated I wouldn't have used it. I was looking for something to make the line out louder and came across a zip-file while doing some random googling. Had I of known where I got it I would have posted it in the first post. Listen, I'd be more than happy to pay for software, and have many times.
Cool, you'll find the latest version on Android market.
Ok, I see the one on Android market, Is there anything I have to do besides root the device again to have it work properly? It has been completely factory reset and reflashed to 2.3.3 JVK so there shouldn't be any reminants from whatever I installed last time.

Rooting my galaxy note and changing the audio setting via the service menu

Hi all
I am coming from the HTC sensation and I would like to gain root and be able to change the volume level via the service mode menu.
However I am having a couple of problems. When I try to apply the root file using zerg rush exploit I get an access is denied error when trying to write the required file changes. However my phone accepts the command to reboot. I followed all the steps, however I wasn't sure what option 7 meant seen there is a file in that folder already. the method I am using is on thread 1329360.
As for my second problem, I am able to access the service menu using the code. However I can't access option 5 it just loops back. When I put the code in to access the audio test I am able to get in. I am unsure what to about this as I need to challenge audio settings for my headphones as the volume is way lower than my sensation. I have tried volume plus pro and it doesn't make a difference to the audio level. Don't understand why the volume would be so low, since the specification are nearly the same as the HTC.
please can you all help me with these problems, and thanks in advance

Yes, I'm having the same problem that I can't access option 5 for Audio adjustment. Anyone as a solution?
how do i get to this service menu please
Me too!!
I have also been tryin too find out this, have been using Audioboost for SGII, too Get higher volume, but it is annoying cuz the volume goes down if you do try to do something else then listen too music..
First off all, in the newer roms the zerg rush doesn't work anymore
for rooting you will have to flash an older rooted rom
then flash a newer rom keeping root.
The option 5 is not available on the Note
You can buy the VOODOO LOUDER app in market
it is developped by supercurio to boost the volume level of the Note
THIS ONLY WORKS ON THE HEADPHONES JACK
for the speaker or call-volume nothing can be done except using
an EQ app and set all levels to MAX
Finally it might help if you put the phone right on your ear.
remember it is big and many ppl hold it to high on the ear...
use volume+ https://market.android.com/details?...GwsMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLlRFU1QuYW5kcm9pZC5sdmgiXQ
re:
"The option 5 is not available on the Note?" Why the Hells not? Why dont they just remove option 5 (Audio) then?
Me too. I have a feeling its been disabled on purpose as the Galaxy S II with ICS does the same thing, previously working.
Perhaps we can extract the ServiceMode.apk file from a GS II with stock firmware and try from there...

Want to go to Gingerbread!

Where can I find a stock Gingerbread ROM at? When I purchased my phone it already had ICS on it, and honestly I do not like it at all. I jumped to my favorite phone mod site (XDA) and did some searching but came up empty handed. Can anyone assist me with my request? Thanks!

Sorry. There are not any GB ROMs for the D4 that will work on ICS. The GB D4 ROMs there are are not compatible with the ICS kernel. Maybe if you can describe the issues you are having with ICS we can help you with those.

Mainly just nitpicking things, but the one thing I've had an issue with ICS is the fact that I cannot link notification and ringer volumes together.
Another issue I'm having is when typing using the hardware keyboard, I'll be typing something and the cursor will
jump and start typing at the beginning. Happened just as I was typing this reply, too.

That is odd stock ICS does not have the functionality to link notification and ringer volume. You should be able to find an app on the market that will give you this functionality. Found this on another forum with a quick google search: "Get cvolume from the market. Under settings you need to check notification volume not(Use incoming call volume for notifications). Works great" aarong03 - DroidForums
There are other volume control apps out there as well that may have similar functions. Try some out and let us know!
Not sure about the cursor jumping on you. It seems like I had this problem once too and it ended up being something I was doing that was causing it but I cannot think for the life of me what it was. Some button I was hitting or something.

Thanks for the information. I have tried many volume apps that claim to link the volumes together, but do not work. I basically just want to use my hardware volume buttons as a master volume control, so when I set it with the hardware buttons, nothing is higher. or lower than that volume. I had a Samsung captivate glide on att that was running GB and the app that I used on that phone did not work on my D4 for linking volume. I tried this cvolume app and it doesn't seem to be working either, even though the option to link them is set.

I've been using AudioGuru for profile selection, but I would much rather be able to dynamically change the volume of notifications and ringer together from the hardware buttons instead of set profiles with defined volume levels at each.
I have not found an app yet that works on this phone/ICS that works to lock both volumes together.
Perhaps I will just have to wait until JB is officially released for our phones. But I really liked GB on my previous phone, its too bad I can't get a ROM to work from ICS to GB, considering that the phone was originally released with GB.
Another thing I don't like about ICS is the stock messaging only let's you save a maximum of 1000 messages per contact. I would prefer messages never get automatically deleted, and in ICS it cannot be disabled, you can only change the max number of kept messages.
If you attempt to downgrade the phone to official GB there is a very high risk of bricking the phone.
I'd recommend you stop trying to do this and instead try to either get used to ICS or to replace the bits you don't like with some 3rd party apps.
I'm always having that cursor problem with the keyboard. Happens whenever I open up the keyboard and immediately start typing. Wait a second or two before typing, and it's usually ok. Seems the input editor is too slow to initialize itself, so it's still trying to set the cursor to column zero by the time you start typing...

did you try yourself before suggesting?
There is no risk in downgrading to GB via SBF. No risk, because you will most certainly B R I C K your phone. So learn to live with it.
I too have some issues with ICS. The cursor jump happens to me too, and I hate it. I also have issues with BT volume control. Music is no problem, but controlling Youtube volume does not work for me. And when docked (lapdock or plain HDMI cable) volume also doesn't work. On or off, nothing in between.
But still, I think ICS runs much smoother than GB.

Yes you can (maybe) bring your phone back to life, but one thing that will definitely not happen is that Gingerbread ROM actually booting. The locked bootloader does not allow you to downgrade.
Do not even bother trying to downgrade it will waste your time and you may end up with a brick.

At least I know I am not the only one with the cursor jump issue. And yes, I notice it only happens to me when I open the keyboard and immediately start typing. I will have to start being patient and give it a few seconds before typing.
I've tried many different Volume apps, and even when locking volume settings are enabled, the volumes are not locked when I adjust it with the hardware volume rocker.
I did read that JB will be getting an official push to the D4, but they have not said when. ICS just doesn't set too well with me for some reason. Yes, it runs pretty smooth, but I don't like it's all black theme, some functionality that was left out, and the new widget being part of the app list doesn't always show new widgets immediately. I guess my biggest upset about it is that it seems rather... buggy or undeveloped. To me, GB seemed to be more developed and work the way you would come to expect an android OS to run now days, and ICS just isnt there yet. Hopefully JB will be better...

unless you borked your bootloader or had a hardware failure niko is right there is no way to hard brick your phone just by flashing roms/sbf's
as long as your bootloader is intact you are able to recover your device
All that said, there's no reason someone couldn't get a vanilla AOSP GB build working with the ICS kernel for use with safestrap. On the XDAndroid project we had a single Linux 3.5 kernel working for Froyo, GB, and ICS. It's not a slamdunk, but the amount of patching required isn't that bad.

low volume blues

Hey, sorry to have to start a new thread but i've done a lot of searching and still got the problem so I was hoping someone here might be able to help me...
Basically I am trying to get my xperia sp to actually function as half-decent music player but the top volume is pathetic (eu volume laws?) and it's pretty worthless as an mp3 player. Tried buying new headphones, expensive tips, all that but it still doesn't cut it. Tried various music players, Poweramp etc. and pumping up the equalizer and pre-amp settings but you don't really get much increase and quality really takes a hit.
So I rooted it (with towel root) with the intention of getting that fauxsound stuff but i've got bootloader unlock allowed: no and as far as i can tell you cant run fauxsound unless you have a compatible kernel and you can't change your kernel with a locked bootloader.
So i guess i'll settle with getting that volume boost mod but for that you need a custom recovery so i tried to install CWM using the installer thats linked on the FAQ page but when i try that it just says "daemon started successfully" and then nothing happens. I disabled all antivirus, things like that, ran as administrator, all that nonsense but no joy.
Short of getting an external sound card for twenty quid and sellotaping it to my phone like an idiot, does anyone out there have a solution that's worked for them?
You've probably already tried it, but I might as well suggest the Volume+ app.
Here's the apk: http://www.mediafire.com/?8k4l5mjh8to3m37
Devices:
-LG Optimus L3 II
-Lenovo IdeaTab A3000-F
Yeah, I tried a lot of those market apps for boosting volume, none of them seem to work for me. I think since the 4.3 update they're obsolete. Thanks anyway though
