Self injury awareness day 2013 - Off-topic

Hello ladies if any (joke) and gentlemens
So I don't know if any of you are familiarized with this, but 1 of March was the SIAD.
Do you know someone that hurts himself?
Do you know how this has been for the people near you?
Do you hurt yourself by own will?
Try to help someone in this case of lack of help. Or get help talking with someone if you need help.
You don't understand the causes and label anyone that do this as emo? Please leave a question!
let's be supportive!
Have a nice day!

Sorry, but this really is not the place to discuss this. There are plenty of online resources to help people and answer questions about matters like this. Xda is not one of them. With that in mind, thread cleaned and closed.

Id love to help. Im on here all the time anyways messing with stuff.
I'll help out ^_^ Been a mod/admin of various forums if that helps and its nice to be part of a more developer type forum than just tech.
I'll be dropping in now and then to check and help out where I can. No problem.
im new to xda, but have and will be spending great amounts in these forums. I am a very patient person and also have a good knowledge with android to help users with their Questions!
Sure, Love to help =) Good at support hehe ^^
You know I'm always willing to help mikey
i would love to help moderate this part of the forum
always active member.
I'm almost always on
Let me know if I can be of service.
Mikey, I would love to help!
"I live to serve all believers."
Not as many replies as I expected. I haven't posted a lot here, but I've been using XDA to tinker with my G1 from the day I bought it. I've done customer service or tech support for many years and have plenty of patience to deal with all sorts of users. I think I've gotten to know the community enough that even if I don't have the answer, I know where to start looking.
I'm pretty active and have learned a lot, so I'd be glad to help out.
im still learning about everything on the g1 but im willing to help and pass what i know
Would love to be of some help! I am an Admin on another android site too! I could help you out alot!
I'd like in!
I like this forum because answers are always nice and clear even though the questions are a bit vague.
willing to lend a hand if its wanted...
don't claim to know it all but have enjoyed my time here at xda. if i can help keep things squeaky clean let me know.
I can throw in my two cents on subjects I know about. I spend atleast a half hour on here everyday or more.
I don't mind helping if it will keep people from bashing noobs.
I would love to help. I consider myself an experienced user, started developing a bit but I've had work to keep up with so I can't give to the community with developing anything.
I really want to give back to the community, so I hope my knowledge can be of good use.

I think this is what i should put this

i don't know if this will help any of you dedicated developers, but i pulled a bootlog from the (ugh, recently un-)rooted rogers dream i have with osmonitor. i can't make too much sense of it, so maybe you will have better luck?
First hint what is a sentance called if you add a ? to the end of it....
a QUESTION...
now QUESTIONS go in the QUESTIONS section
now that you have been educated up to a first grade level, maybe you can post this in the right forum and mayyybe someone will give you help, im hoping not however

Wow, did you even read what they said, or did you just look for a question mark and post a generic response? No question was asked other than a rhetorical one... Seriously, this forum has far too many wannabe mods. To be honest, that was a pretty rude response considering they've done nothing wrong at all but trying to help in development.
Sorry I can't actually help with that log, I just had to say something, this is getting out of hand o.0.

Guess is a higher geek count then in most places dont let it get to you tho.
well, now that is what I call a rather rude response. I posted that at 9 pm, and wasn't really too coherent. I'm also surprised that it offended you that much that you had to start a personal attack on me; Seeing as it wound up buried on page two or three by this morning. I posted that boot log as I noticed something when I was looking at it, that it ignored the previous radio versions, and thought that might be a clue for someone who knows about the roms to actually do something constructive. Not that reminding me about the rules of grammar and such wasn't constructive.
Moved as not Android Development.
Im not sure if this can be done with an unrooted fone but if you have Android SDK then get a logcat.
The Devs can understand this much better I think.

[REQUEST] Who are the developers?

Hello everyone!
Reading a lot and flashing awesome roms and mods at XDA I start to get increasingly interested in who the developers are. Sometimes threads go slightly off-topic and we get a glimpse of the person who is devoting so much time and effort for our devices.
Isn't there a thread missing where those stars we admire leak something about themselves?
There is a long list of celebrities on XDA/SGN700, and I (and I guess many other addicts/inmates/groupies) would be very delighted if those of you who want to could tell us something about yourself or off-topic you just don't want to post into the developer threads. Or accept our humble requests to leak something personal about yourself. Maybe something like this:
Where do you live?
What do you do to make a living?
Why do you develop? Why for the Note?
What did you do to learn this magic?
What do you work on right now? What's next? [no ETA, of course]
What is your personal challenge in developing?
Maybe something personal, what do you like and hate in real live and here? Why did you chose that avatar? Etc.
That might also keep the threads clean of this stuff.
@moderator: If this is dealt with somewhere else or surprisingly has been posted already - please delete. Thanks!
Doubt you'll get many bites on this, so here is a start for you.

FYI, xplodwild is / was the lead dev for official Cyanogenmod on the Note GT-N7000.
Thank your for the link, exactly what I was looking for. I just hoped to shed some light on some more of them, since we just take so much and don't even know their names.
Maybe you are right, though I hope not.

That's called privacy and you should respect it.
So before posting something like this you have at least to ask the person you're writing about for permission. I doubt this has happened here.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Thank you ThaiDai for your answer.
I respect privacy very much, that is why I wrote "those of you who want to". The questions I posted don't aks for privacies. And I did not ask for names, or did I? Nothing to doubt, please.
Anyway, thank you nickshertzer. If there is more like that anyone knows I would be grateful.

The Great Riddles Thread

This thing started in the OT thread of the GT-i9001 development sub-forum. So i thought: "Why not creating a thread just for this? And why not in the big Off-Topic Forum?" This is why i decided to start this thread. We need some rules, so i took the ones from the original thread (Rules by mrjraider) and added/removed some things.
So the rules are:
One Riddle at the time ( Nobody can concentrate on 4 at the same time xD).
The OP of that Riddle must inform us when it has been solved and who solved it (He/she must also provide a detailed answer if somebody don't understands).
The OP of the Riddle must give a hint (Not a part of the answer!) everyday if the Riddle hasn't been solved within a day.
The OP must remove his Riddle when it hasn't been solved within a week (He/she must also give the answer for all of us).
The one who solves the Riddle can write another one, or leave it to someone else.
Please, don't be rude and say the answer. Have the common sense to hide it in a spoiler, at least.
Since i'm the OP i'll start this.
You live in 1770 and you know a pregnant woman that had other 8 children, of which 2 died after less than a week, 3 were deaf, 2 were blind, 1 was mentally retard. This woman also has syphilis. Why shouldn't you tell her to abort? I already gave you a hint (1770, remember? ).
You have 7 days from now on to solve this. Good luck and think about it!
I've heard that before, but it was slightly different. It went something like this...
You live in 2013 and you have some idea for a thread in the Off-topic forum, but there's some children there and you think they're deaf or blind or something. Then there's this thread that comes up in the search results, but the blind kids don't see it and the deaf kids don't hear you telling them, so you just make one anyway. Or maybe you didn't search, and that's the riddle..... damn you got me!!

Nexus 6 Anonymous Question Box

Have a question but don't wanna ask it publicly? You're in luck. I do answer technical questions via PM!
One phrase I see a lot of, in one way or another, is "I don't answer technical questions through PMs". That could be for a multitude of reasons, I suppose. A user may have trouble keeping track of who is who, have a full inbox, or prefer to help publicly for the thanks and such that come from it. Regardless of why, this can put a lot of us in uncomfortable situations at times, knowing precisely who we want to ask what but having no way to do so privately. It can be really discouraging to go from helping ~15 people in a row with their issues, some complex, to not knowing where to even start on an elementary issue on your own device. Today I am hoping to put an end to that, at least for users of the Nexus 6. This thread seeks to offer assistance in a new way - I DO offer technical support via PM. I also bet some other users do too, and they are more than welcome to join in helping so long as spreading correct and helpful information remains the central goal. I welcome any user to offer support to another, just please do indicate the issue is resolved as to avoid multiple PMs from multiple accounts. If a user (or multiple) is interested in really becoming a part of this,I am not at all opposed to that either. I have no interest in doing this alone or anything like that - the more of us here helping people, the more actualized my vision for this thread has become. I will never compromise quality of answers for quota - if I am not totally sure, I either will not offer you suggestion until I am, or I'll preface it with a very clear indication of the fact that I am uncertain.
PMs aren't to be used here to walk througgh configuring someone's device, decrypting their phone or recovering from a brick, where one person's oversight could really mess things up. Directing these users to where to get said information from the guides provided and answering any subsequent questions they may have after reading said guides - that's what I am about. However, I would like for users who feel genuinely stupid or simply shy asking a certain question to have a place to ask it without feeling judged. I'd like to point you to the right place to ask your question and not second guess if it's in the right forumor thread or tagging the right dev. If your question is of a simpler nature and I am able to just answer it for you and provide helpful links/references if possible, I will. If you have a log but don't know who to submit it to, I'd like to help you figure that out. From new members who are shy to RCs who are just stuck on stupid for the moment, this thread is open to you all.
We can do this anyway you wish. For starters, my inbox is open to anyone. Please do let me know you are coming from here, as I receive a good deal of technical questions via PM as is. Or, if you prefer, simply post in here asking for a PM. I will check this thread quite regularly. If users find use for this, provisions may be made for a more organized system in the future, To all those with questions, don't be shy, now is your chance. To those of you who wish to get involved, again, don't be shy. Feel free to jump right in and start helping or to contact me, whichever is preferable. I hope to start a good thing here for the community that I have never seen done before, as this is what this is all about - the XDA community. Thanks for reading - I hope to hear from you guys!
Very nice offer of you.
I'll explain my reason for not answering PMs..well, several actually.
1) I spend all my time responding to PMs. I don't get to enjoy the forum
2) The PM relies on me only for support, when there may be better people to help
3) Questions asked in open forum benefit other members too

Oh yes, I definitely appreciate that it's not something members do to be less than helpful or anything like that, especially due to #3. I would definitely rather answer a question in an open forum so others can see it than through PM. My whole reasoning for making this thread is that I think some questions will go unasked if users don't have a place they are comfortable asking them - I myself have had questions but just simply not known where to ask, and by not asking, I learned nothing. So for those cases, niche issues, etc., I am hoping that people who normally would just deal with their issue and silently be unhappy about it, or hop from ROM to ROM or kernel to kernel trying to fix something that's really a GPS issue or something, those people can hopefully find what they have been looking for - or at least a pointer in the right direction to get there. I definitely appreciate that the open forum is the best way to handle most issues most of the time - as I have yet to see this type of thread for our device, though, I'm hoping to serve the needs of the few as the masses are already being served elsewhere. I appreciate you shining some light from the perspective of someone who gets a lot of technical questions aimed at you and does not answer them via PM - definitely a good jumping off point for users to see what this thread is not for, i.e. issues that are likely gonna help other users too.
I'll answer a few hundred questions via pm, yearly. but I would rather answer them in the public forums, for everyone to see. first off, you end up helping out more people if its answered publicly. plus, if you do answer with something that's wrong, someone will come by to correct you. that way the person gets the right answer, and you will as well. I know I'm not 100% right all the time, I'm not perfect, I'm just a human being, but I still try
edit... but no matter what, I will not refuse to help anyone via pm.

I just had to turn off PMs all together. There are a few sticky threads in a few device forums by me, so people pm me to help fix a problem on a device i haven't even owned for years. I can't remember that far back.
