Hi guys. I have a I9000 and i want to install the CyanogenMod 9 on it. I`ve Already rooted my phone using the Unlock Root. However, I can`t go to the Clockworkmod recovery to install customs rooms. I tried to flash the CWM recovery using the Rom Manager app, but when i was installing, an error happened. I figured out that the problem is my kernel that is not compatible with the CWM. I know that i have to flash a compatible kernel using Odin, but which kernel should i flash??? My device is a Galaxy S I9000, 2.3.5 android, and 2.6.35.7-I9000XXJVT-CL617736 kernel. Already rooted. Please someone could help me??
Thank you so much
Don't use rom manager, use Odin to flash, CWM is bundled with rooted kernel (CF-root, Semaphore)

Hi, I have the same error problem, cf root was not bundled with my own root package. I flashed to gingerbread 2.3.6 xwjw1, I also tried rom manager to flash recovery and it was successful, but when I rebooted to recovery to backup my current rom it bootes to the android (3e) recovery. As I've discovered it seems rom manager is not compatible with the xwjw1 series. How do I get the correct cf root for xwjw1? Believe me I have tried google and am scared of the things I see since "jw1" is not behind any of the cf root packages I see. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

On xwjw1 you can Odin flash as PDA Semaphore 250 tar kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14481782
Untick re-partition before flashing.
After reboot you may need to install Superuser from Play Store.
That will give you root, CWM, gingerbread ready for CM9.1

Use Odin to flash (put .tar in PDA and uncheck repartition). You can flash Semaphore JVT 1.8.0 or CF-Root v4.3

Thanks Sunny men, but OT's advice worked, I can now boot to semaphore recovery and wipe etc.
Question though, if I now flash cm9.1 rom, will I be able to boot to recovery without the holding any button combinations. What I mean is can I boot to recovery from the shutdown menu or do I need an app for it?
Also is cm9.1 the best rom for my phone? any thots guys? Thanks again.

Yes, in CM 9.1 you can boot directly to recovery from the shutdown menu. CM 9.1 is very stable and fast, so try it. And when you flash CM9 for the first time, your galaxy will go into a bootloop. Then remove the battery, put it in, go to recovery with 3-button configuration and flash it again.

Hi guys, thanks for all the help. I have flashed CM 9.1 successfully.
Everything works OK for now.
Also flashed gapps, CM 9.1 seems to be a great ROM.
I have a question though, the gapps I flashed seems to have only a few Google apps, play store and Google talk. The file size was 49mb so is that all that's in gapps or is there a hidden mode or something.
Also, sin007 I can't find any reboot to recovery from the shutdown menu, though I flashed a stable version of CM 9.1 and not a "nighty version". Could that be the reason? But no biggie, CM 9.1 comes with rom manager.
Finally I wouldn't mind any tips you guys have on making the most out of the ROM.
Thanks and all the best.
Shutdown menu - Reboot - Recovery
OK?
There is an APP on google play, sgs kernel flash, it is easier and faster than Odin. And works perfectly. I've flash the speedmod kernel and finally upgrade to cyanogenmod 9.1.
Anyone knows if this APP works on galaxy s2 (i9100)?
Thankss

first you will need to be on gingerbread
then you should install cwm recovery from Odin (no unlocking required)
then just choose your favourite rom and flash with cwmr

I search and get a thread that I can start to root and instal cwm on froyo ,is that right?
how about kernel and unlock bootloader ??do you mean the default kernel has support all custom rom ??
no need to root froyo just upgrade to gb with the help of Odin multi downloader
we have recovery.img so no need to change the kernel and in every rom its supported kernel is baked
so I must upgrade to official ginger then rooting and instal cwm ??
yes you will need to be on gingerbread either official or unofficial
and rooting is not required to install cwm recovery
and a big warning is do not use rom manager on this phone to install cwm, mobile will get brick

yes no root for installing custom rom

I rooted my device and I want to flash the CWM is it okay to flash it through ODIN right now? If so can you provide me the .tar file to install the CWM and at last is it correc that the CWM can make a full system backup because I wanted to flash the CM10 nightlies (I do know that to flash the CM10 I must have flashed the CM9 first) and some people said the CM10 isn't really good and I wanted to backup my system so if I didn't like the CM10 I can go back to my stock android
What rom are you on?
You will need to change the kernel to get cwm. If you are on rooted ics, you can install speedmod or philz kernel to be safe and get cwm.
Then you can make a nandroid backup and install the cm rom. No need to change the rom to cm9 if on a safe kernel.

what the kernel you have on the phone?
there is a possibility to use cwm temporarily. so u don't need to flash an other kernel:

Yes but install a rom using that may prove dangerous if the rom has bad updater script. This can be used to install a kernel.
Hi
I updated CWM to 6.??? to try a KitKat ROM but I want to go back to a Gingerbread one. I don't know how to downgrade the CWM to 5. When I try and install a CWM 5 zip file via CWM it gives me lots of errors.
Is it possible to downgrade the CWM?
thanks

You can either flash stock rom via odin on comp and reroot, or download and install mobile odin ported to our device. And then flash the odin flashable cwm.tar file through mobile odin.

You cannot downgrade from android 4.x to android 2.x. That's because 4.0.4 and higher roms have a different bootloader. So don't try to flash gingerbread over kitkat, but if you tried and your phone didn't bricked let me know!!!

I know well what CWM stand for and what it is. I know he was asking how to downgrade from CWM 6 to CWM 5 but he was asking also for a downgrade from KitKat to Gingerbread. I just said that it could brick the phone.
For the CWM downgrade you must:
1) reboot in recovery mode
2) install the latest PX recovery for galaxy ace
3) reboot recovery
4) install CWM5
5) reboot recovery
6) done!

Actually downgrading from KitKat to Gingerbread will not brick the phone as long as you flash it through odin. Then again flashing any Gingerbread custom rom will not brick your phone as they are made to work only on CWM5. Hence flashing Gingerbread custom rom through CWM6 will only give you errors. Its always safe to install Gingerbread stock rom using odin. Here is the link on how to install stock rom using odin along with all firmwares and drivers (check "Preparations" section),
Flash stock rom on Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830 using odin/
Once installed, go to recoverymod and do a wipe data/ factory reset & wipe cache (otherwise bootloop might occur). Then restart. Now you have successfully flashed the stock rom. Here is the link for rooting and installing CWM5 on Samsung Galaxy Ace,
How To Root and Unroot Samsung Galaxy Ace?

Also if you still want to use KitKat, then you can use the KitKat version flashable through CWM5 by @Salim El Yabouri. Here is the link,

Hope I Helped

About your remarks:
1. cwm 6.0.4.8/philz edition did not work. a) it has mount problems; b) it prevented android 2.3.5 from booting.
2. You, before editing, said recovery is independent of the rom on the phone. If this is the case, then why all cwm 6 versions are in trouble with /system on my phone? and why mardon said that won't work with stock rom?

Cwm 6 or 5 cannot mount /system /data or /cache bcoz cwm cannot handle samsung's filesystem rfs used in galaxy ace. This problem has no solution except changing to custom rom or using cfroot kernel which has ability to change fs type to ext4.also it is quite better than stock kernel. Proceed with caution. Also i think you need android 2.3.6 for cf root kernel. You can download official android 2.3.6 from sammobile.com and cf root kernel for s5830
from Google. Also do try cwm 5.0.2.6 once it can work.
And btw flashing 2.3.6 will wipe data cache root everything.
If you choose to flash 2.3.6, try cf auto root kernel. Cm roms use ext4 by default with quite better kernels.

Hi there. Last night I tried to install the latest Philz recovery, but something somewhere goes wrong. I am with AryaMod v5, 4.1.2 Rooted, baseband XXLT3 and build XXLTC. As I can see it has [email protected] World Kernel as well.
So last night I downloaded Philz 6.45.6 and flash it through recovery, but then the phone didin'r start. it jush light the Samsung N700 sign, then it went black. I did Backup so I had to Restore it. So far so good /I have my phone back/. But when my Note did restore, it couldn't find android_secure, so I don't have all the app stored in my SD Card...big deal.
Now I downloaded Rom manager and I see Current Recovery: ClockWorkMod 6.0.4.8/Latest Recovery: CWM 6.0.4.3
So my question now is can I install latest Philz because I want to flash Arya V7 and there it says Latest PhilZ or I can flash now by folowwing yhe steps from 3 to the end? Do I need to flash latest recovery every time it is released?

do clean re-install aryamod v5 first because there is right kernel. Then you can restore your backup or install aryamod v7 (i have done like that)
Did I changed the Kernel? Because I was with Philz Kernel before installing the AryaMod V5. Then I saw i have [email protected] World Make II kernel as it is now shown in About the phone. And how can I do clean re-install?

I said what I said because after downloading latest philz it can't be used to flash over TW kernels. But when in KK roms, it can be flashed. I have checked it before. Also somewhere in philz thread, I read that his recovery no longer includes kernels anymore. So please enlighten me where I'm wrong coz I'm open to correctionsn I'll really appreciate the knowledge to better help our fellow members. Just don't ask "what am I talking about?" And also I said "according to my personal experience" too.

So please enlighten me where I'm wrong coz I'm open to correctionsn I'll really appreciate the knowledge to better help our fellow members. Just don't ask "what am I talking about?" And also I said "according to my personal experience" too.
Thanks for elaborating

Kernel for note and s2 has recovery built into them. Not the case with later phones like s3 s4... where recovery can be independent of the kernel. So you can have any kernel you want and any recovery you want.
Thus your statement that Philz kernel for N7000 doesn't include kernel is weird as it wont be of any use for normal users and " philz latest is more compatible with KK roms than TW roms" is again confusing as Phil made just 1 KK kernel with new recovery but that had issues with radio and all so..
"I said what I said because after downloading latest philz it can't be used to flash over TW kernels"
And this is? You can flash TW kernel using cwm/twrp as well.
Just don't ask "what am I talking about?"
I read your statement several times still couldn't understand, thats why ......
Hello @nokiamodeln91 . Glad to have you clarify this. Let me start from beginning then. I have dowloaded philz_touch_6.19.3-n7000, philz_touch_6.26.6-n7000 recoveries. When I want to flash a KK rom such as C-Rom over a TW rom such as this rom, aryamod's and such, I rebooted into recovery, flashed either of them n I got "installation error, installation aborted" (with the android avatar lying down dead). But when I move from KK to another KK such as C-rom to SKOP, these 2 files can be flashed without problem to change CWM recovery to philz. Seeing as the one who asked the question that led me to answer like that, I just suggested to him to use PhilZ-cwm6-XXLTA-ATL-5.15.0-signed instead if he want to flash a TW based rom (in his case, aryamod) and don't use the latest philz.. Sorry if any of my word confused you. Cheers. I have respect to you n other members who always help other needy members.

There is some issue with the package.. You flash an older TW version. Then from that recovery flash raw r4.. Then from its recovery flash KK.
*Necropost* Sorry, But I have a question regarding this.
@nokiamodeln91 If I flash an older TW version then r4, do I need to wipe dalvik/cache before flashing r4 or can I go Older TW kernel > Reboot recovery > r4 kernel > reboot recovery > wipe system/data/cache/dalvik > flash KK ROM ?
