[Q] heklp a noob? flashed to froyo and force close loop occuring

hi, im hoping someone can help me, ive looked at the other threads and not managed to find a solution that works for my phone, so here goes. i flashed my samsung galaxy s to froyo using odin, after that all i got were force close messages, so i flashed it back down to eclair, and again, was plagued with force close messages, not as many, but it left me only being able to use text messaging and the clock, everything else would just force close. ive tried a soft reset, hard reset, so on and so forth, the interesting thing is after flashing to froyo (after going through force close messages for like an hour) it actually connected to kies and informed me there was an update and i thought 'great, thatll solve it!' so i let it update to JPY, but still had the same problem of constant force closes. what on earth can i do?????? please help me!

Downgrade to eclair again. Go to recovery and wipe data and cache.

ok, am getting a couple of error messages when i do this -

How do you flash with odin 512 pit re-partition?
Can you start the phone?

yes with odin 512 pit and re-partition checked, the phone starts but still goes through the force close loops

Which Eclair version have you flashed?
Try to go to settings and go to the menu wich contain information about your sdcard. Her you must see total storage and free storage it must be something like total storage 5,78 gb free 2,42 gb.

Looks like you have done it right. Can you try to format you internal sd-card. The format option is in the same menu where you just saw available space.

tried that, doesnt make any difference :S is there any other version i can try flashing to?

I use jm8 with 512 pit and re-partition and have succes with that. I do it in this way:
1. Goto downloadmode
2. start Odin
3. choose pit 512.
4. tick re-partition wait to it finish and the screen is black.
5. unmount usb cable
6. take battery out wait 10 sec. and put it back again. Goto downloadmode
7. press reset button in odin and untick re-partition.
7.1 Don't choose pit again
8. choose the 3 file in the correct order:
8.1 click pda button and choose the file named "code..."
8.2 click modem button and choose the file named "modem..."
8.3 click csc and choose the file named "csc..."
9. Plug in the usb cable again and wait to odin see the phone
10. Press start and happy flashing

ah. i have files for the pda and the modem but not the csc :S maybe thats why its going wrong? where would i find the csc code? i have a csc code for JPO but not JM8 :S :S :S

Try to upgrade to jpy with odin:
1. no pit and no re-partition.
2. press on pda and choose the tar file.

That's weird. Never heard of a force close loop even after a flash. Furthermore, those messages you see in recovery are the most worrying. Since you can turn on your phone, I don't think you have fried your memory. However, it is possible that they have been set to read only.

its still force close looping and every time i try to open an app it force closes.

have also redone a factory reset and thats not helped either

I am a little bit worried about your internal sdcard. I know others on xda have same problems. There must be a solution.

am now stuck on a loop trying to setup the phone, gets as far as'use google location' then screen goes black and goes back to 'select locale'. this is frustrating!

I know you guys don't like new posts, but I've spent the past 2 days trying to figure this out and I am about to give up.
I'll just lay this out in bullets and this is just a last attempt before I throw this phone out:
Phone: GT-i9000 bought full price from Bell, unlocked running on Fido
Rom Installed: ROM Name: All In One Edition Version: 7.0 Developer: Spike_M Firmware: XXJPY
I shut the phone off because it stopped responding to any touches, turn it back on and its stuck on the SAMSUNG GALAXY S Logo.
Can enter DOWNLOAD mode using three button combo, but not RECOVERY mode.
This means that I tried to flash a new FW using ODIN. What I tried to flash:
Used:
Odin3 v1.3
PDA = I9000XXJPU-REV03-PDA-low-CL747761.tar
PIT = s1_odin_20100512.pit
PHONE = MODEM_I9000XXJPU.tar.md5
CSC = GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJPU.tar.md5
When I click Start on Odin with either ☐ Re-Partition or ☑ Re-Partition, it reboots into RECOVERY mode, "Wipes Data", and gives me this error message:

and just hangs.

and tried the solution. I can access the adb shell when the phone is stuck in recovery mode, but I don't have root access so I can't push any files like parted onto the /sbin folder because it says "Permission denied"
If anyone can tell me if phone is a lost cause, I can stop trying already and get on with my life. If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

my "E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1" problem has been solved by this.
It may not be the same problem but the following solved my "E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1" problem, not "E: can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2". I used JM2, 512 pit.
Credit to Margaliini
1. Enter your phone in dl-mode, but don't connect yet.
2. Open Odin, tag re-partition, auto reboot and f.reset time, make sure efs clear and bootloader -fields are NOT checked. select CORRECT PIT-file (2.1 ROMS usually 512, 2.2 ROMs many times 803, samfirmware always tells which one to use next to the dl-link of a ROM-file), enter your phone in dl-mode, plug, wait it to be recognized by Odin.
3. Click start, wait until Odin shows PASSED, unplug your phone, remove the battery for 30 seconds, enter dl-mode again, don't plug just yet.
4. In Odin, click Reset. Then select PDA, Modem and CSC files compatible with the PIT-file used in re-partition, plug your phone, make sure re-partition NOT checked and no PIT-file selected (once again, make sure you use correct PDA for the PIT you flashed). auto-reboot and f.res.time should be selected. Make sure efs clear and bootloader -fields are NOT checked.
4- Plug your phone and when recognized, click start. Wait to be passed. Now your phone will boot (or if not, boot manually) and should work just fine.
Edit: Try to put Eclair ROM, for example JM2, not jpa, and see if it works better.

Using some advice from your guide along with the fix found here, I was able to revive my once unresponsive internal sdcard http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665123

How did you mange to fix this Mount problem finally ?

Mu phone gets into download mode , and recognized by Odin (i have tried to put I9000xxJPU the download process was finished with no error, but when the phone made restart to start the update process i got the error message above). since the the phone is stuck in endless loop on the main samsung opening screen.
I tried to do this tip : (with the I9000xxJPU)

You do not need to remove any partitions... Just flash stock rom, and try again... Same happened to me, i couldnt mount any partition in recovery, now it fine

I have tryed to flash many roms, 2.2.1 2.3.1 2.3.5 .2.3.6, (JVT, JVR, LPY, and new ones) always same issue: "E: failed to mount /data (invalid argument) and then bootlooping.
I`m sure my mmcblk0p2 is broken, question is how to force delete this partition or flash rom in to external SDcard!

Well you cant flash roms onto sdcard... But if your partition is broken, then sorry but im a noob

Have you tired using a pit file?

flash a stock rom from samfirmware.com with ODIN.(eg. jw5)
to extract the password is "samfirmware.com"
tick repartition and use 512 pit file(included in rom from samfirmware).
check youtube for "flash with odin" if u dont know how.
edit:u are trying to flash from from samsungs 3 recovery.u need cwm(clockworkmod) to flash.
go to CF-ROOT(for i-9000) thread and follow instructions and read all in the OP(1-2-3 posts)
again u need ODIN to flash it.

there is the best wasy to do that...just go to sammobile.com
there sign up first and then download the firmware (in firmware tab) and flash-programs...
the make sure to use oidn3_v1.0 only...
you can also download the flash-guide if you need it...

I had such error and successfully installed rom in to sdcard but i had issue with phone signal, so tried to re install rom and now its keep teling me cant mount data..
What can i do?

Yep, keep shows only gt-9000 logo..

I had a very similar problem earlier this year.
From what I could see the partitions on the phone's internal storage weren't able to be accessed. In adb I tried using parted and rm but the partitions there (/dev/block/mmc/blk0) didn't ever change. I also tried various .pit files and Android versions through Odin but nothing worked.
I took my phone in for repairs after flashing a really old version; as close as possible to what it came with, and they fixed it. The repair was due to 'mechanical fatigue' according to them. I assumed the internal storage was some how broken or corrupted and couldn't be written to.

Not sure, if you manage to solve this.
From you screenshots I can see you are using 3e recovery. I would suggest you to flash a kernel which support cwm recovery mode.
I have heard peoples getting this error while using it on 3e.

3e recovery because i`ve flashed 2.2 and 2.2.1 or any other official roms, i can flash CWM easy but as Captain_17 said i can see but cant touch
files or partitions.
If flash CWM then phone will boot to CWM only, and i cant flash any rom from CWM because i cant copy files to internal storage and external (sdcard) cwm doesn't see it.

Sorry man, wish I could be of more help. I tried every available option I could find online but nothing worked.
Seems to be a hardware problem and replacing the damaged part is the only solution.

Silly question, but you ticked re-partition? try flash 2.2.1 or 2.3.3 with 512 pit and repartition

Also, you could try to flash Darky ressurection via odin, not completely stock rom. I know that this is just tweaked stock, but you could try do that.
And, you could try to use Heimdall instead of odin - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1196179
I have read somewhere that heimdall is more preferable than odin in some cases.

I once also a similar problem and flash2.1 Eclayr. But then I had to restore recowery to flash. as with you, I do not know if it helps.

Stuck without a OS

Very ironic,but i came here to ask about rooting my phone a year back and now i'm back in sort of the same situation..
A year back I rooted my froyo 2.2.1 based Galaxy S to a gingerbread version,then i used quite a few of the ICS roms available on this forum,had been using Cyanogen for the past few months.Yesterday i had some free time,so i thought would check out the JB roms available.
So i did the usual,download the JB version of Fishears since i had a iNand.put it in my internal sdcard..but i could not access the memory card from CWM 5.0.2.7..,so i put it in my external memory card and tried to run the zip from there,but the process got aborted in the middle,tried it twice,dint work.
Then i remembered i had faced this internal memory problem before,had to go and switch on the debugging mode in the developer option.[P.S:- i had been facing the encryption successful problem for half a year,was too lazy/busy to fix it,i just took it in my stride and rebooted a lot to get into the homepage]
So,I'm in CWM and i run the usual process and run the zip file from the internal sdcard,it started out fine,them BOOM.my phone reboots all of a sudden.When it restarts,it does not have a OS to boot into,the green android image with a red exclamation mark and a few text appears which happens too fast to read and it keeps rebooting and this process goes on.
I can still access CWM and the download mode,i tried going into CWM but the internal sd doesnt open and the zip file fails to mount from the external sd.
So i thought **** it,i'll do the rooting part again and i run up ODIN,download the semaphore 2.7.4 kernel,and i see it is just 15 mb or so,i remembered i used more than 1 file and used the pit folder also,but i read it on the semaphore website,its only 1 file and have to use it as the PDA.went to download mode and odin recognised it and the process completed without a hitch,it even showed a green PASS..
but the problem came when it had to reboot after the process,it got stuck in the "Galaxy S GT I9000" page and never moved forward.it was there for 30 minutes or so before i pulled out the battery.
Basically
1.I cant get past that page
2.I can access the CWM and Download modes
3.I accepted my mistake and thought of not doing any more mistakes,so icame here
4.When i boot into CWM mode,these errors come

you may try this, if you can boot to download mode but make sure your is GT-I9000
Before start, please backup all your important data and phones setting. Then,
Step 1:
I) Download Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread Value Pack (XXJVU)
II) Download ODIN http://www.mediafire.com/?nhhhkm5c2j43rhw Extract Odin3 v1.7.zip to get .exe file
also download the pit file, http://www.mediafire.com/?v2rub40k1bvccj4
Step 2: Extract the ROM [password: samfirmware.com]
Step 3: Launch ODIN. (Don’t open Samsung Kies)
Step 4: Turn off your Galaxy S.

Click on Odin PIT Tab
Select the PIT – s1_odin_20100512.pit
Click on Odin PDA Tab
Select the CODE_I9000XXJVU_CL851880_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5 file.
Click on Odin PHONE Tab
Select MODEM_I9000XXJVU_REV_00_CL1092175.tar.md5.
Click on Odin CSC Tab
Select GT-I9000-CSC-MULTI-OXAJVU.tar.md5.
Step 9: Click on START in ODIN to start flash the leaked firmware on your device.

I had this problem with Paranoid Android before... the zip was corrupt.
If you are able to extract the rom with winrar/winzip/totalcmd or other program, install it, if it is corrupt, download it again again and again...

Did what u said,got past odin,then it went into the setup on the phone and all of a sudden it went into the recovery screen,the message shown is

I have a option to reboot,its the samsung recovery screen..its still there,i havent touched my phone since then

flash CF-root for xxjuv with a pit512 (repartition ticked) cf-root can download from here http://download.chainfire.eu/132/CF-Root/SGS/CF-Root-XX_OXA_JVU_2.3.6-v4.3-CWM3RFS.zip
Once rooted with CWM, enter CWM using combo keys and enter "mounts and storage" and format everything except Boot and also do the full wipes one more time
Finally Flash the JVU+Root again one more time with PIT (repartition) to resolve this issue ...you may need flashing twice or more to solve this

flashed it with CWM,went into it and in Mounts and storage there is only 1 option- "mount USB storage"

I dont think you got what i said.I installed CFW and went into the recovery,there under Mounts and storage ,there was nothing apart from "mount USB storage"..not even Mount BOOT..nothing apart from that 1 option..when i tried to do a wipe "data/factory reset or cache" it showed me that message which i posted above.still i installed the jvu+root again (Twice actually),it was the same result,the error i posted 2 posts above.
I'm in no mans land now and cant do anything apart from my phone apart from go into download and recovery mode

Please someone help me,i've to go on a 33 hr train journey tmrw and without a phone,it'll be really troublesome

New developments now
I followed the steps given in the EZ recovery mode,it crashed into the same e3 recovery mode,for the heck of it i flashed the CFROOT which was provided and it worked fine..all disks were mounted fine and no errors in cwm,
went into Mounts and storage and formatted everything apart from boot and followed the rest of samtans advice
It crashed into the same e3 Rec mode again with the same meta data error message
any suggestions guys,atleast now i'm hopeful after seeing that CWM screen without any errors

Ok dont know whether this is good or bad
I installed CM9 from the external sd as the internal sd was inaccesible in any way..the installation showed info like
"the internal sd card marker could not be found
Going ahead with installation"
the installation continues and restarts once and updates but it does not boot into the main page,it directly goes into the Encryption Unsuccessful page.When i try Reset Phone,it goes into the CWM recovery screen with some errors,
when i try to install CM10 from this recvery screen,it initially stops the installation saying the data partition layout is different and all my data will be wiped.run the .zip to go ahead with the progress.I run this it goes directly into the CWM 6.0._._ and it doesnt show any errors,i try to reboot it gets stuck on the galaxy s screen.
this situation is better than the previous condition as i know a OS can still run on my Phone..Just need to get this thing rectified now

Please if anyone could help me right now,i would be really grateful..not able to contact anyone without my phone

I installed Cyanogen 9 and got through tht EU page by restarting abut 20 times or so,now i'm trying to install a working version of gapps in it.Tried 1 but the setup failed,so i flashed back to Cyanogen 9 and am not touching it till i reach home.a device capable of making and taking calls is better than nothing..
Is there a way to download contacts from gmail without gapps,the play store is not included in the original rom and i'm hesitant to go into CWM recovery mode as i will have to tackle the EU page again

[Q] Phone won't boot failed te mount /sdcard

Hello
So I got a phone from a friend wich doesn't boot. In recovery it says:
"Copying media files..
E:failed to mount /sdcard (File exist)
E:copy_dbdate_media: can't mount /sdcard
your storaged not prepared yet, please use UImenu for format and reboot actions."
Tried an full wipe reset through recovery. Tried installing firmware through Odin. Tried with a 512 pit file (repartition). Didn't work yet. Any ideas?

Hi.
Have you tried full restore to GB? Original Stock Firm.
-Get your stock from http://samfirmware.com/ & Odin (with pit file).
Don't forget the WIPE! ( you can restore to stock and after that wipe and restart )
For me, at any problem i have... i use the GB Flash Kit from Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1637966
And folow that 5 steps.
Don't forget to have a Backup of EFS (IMEI)
Search here on XDA, you will find the right way to bypass your problem, it always happened, don't panic.
