Safe mode? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what the safe mode is useful for??
You can access it by keep pressing vol down when the phone is booting.

Maybe similar to windows safe mode?
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2

It prevents 3rd party (installed) apps from running in case you get a rogue one that prevents the system from booting or running properly.
You can still access them to remove them.

That's what i thought,thanks you guys.

Be aware that if you're tempted to try it for the sake of it, it will mess up your widgets because they appear to the launcher to have been uninstalled. Even after a normal reboot, they'll be missing.

Reboot?
Gesendet von meinem GT-I9000 mit Tapatalk 2
Or just kill the app..
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Rebooted and killed app too... cleared cache too nothing helped
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
That sounds weird, are you sure is the gmail app causing this? Maybe it's something else. Check which applications are running and start killing them, you should eventually find it.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
How can i search that process? By apps menu?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Yes, in the apps menu, select the tab "running" and start your killing spree there. That assuming you are in ICS/JB. To be honest, I've been in ICS for so long now that I don't remember if this menu is there in GB, maybe someone else can assist if you are running an older version of Android.
I am running ics and i cant see any process related to this
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda app-developers app
Turn off the phone barerii out for 15 minutes and re-start if the factory reset does not help.
Just uninstall the Gmail app and reinstall it again. It will solve the problem but it seems weird though...

Screen shifting issue

Sometimes while using my tablet, the screen suddenly "shifts" out of place: http://imgur.com/a/94hr8 Sometimes it also gets "corrupted": http://imgur.com/yErJp.jpg The tablet works normally when this happens, and it responds to touch at the correct position(i.e. touch doesn't change). It doesn't show up on screenshots. I haven't noticed it being "linked" to anything specific, and it's always done it. Turning the screen off and on again returns it to normal. Why does this happen? Is it solveable? I've tried googling around but nothing.
Thank you.
(I posted this same post to Reddit too)

Bump?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
maybe you can post more details on your device
which rom? which cwm.....
It is completely stock 3.2, only rooted with a zip I flashed from stock recovery. I'm pretty sure it did that before rooting, though.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
It sounds hardware related and nothing you'll be able to resolve. Are you still under warranty? If you are I'd take it in.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
That's what I've been thinking. Thank you anyway.

App FC's

I have rooted my phone and I noticed that a lot of times when I exit an app I get a message saying it fc'd. Other times I can launch an app and it fc's but if I launch it again it runs fine. I don't know what caused this but I was wondering if maybe it would resolve the issue if I use rom toolbox pro and fix permissions. Any thoughts on this?

Had this when I was stock. A factory reset fixed it

So was I but I'm glad to say that I no longer have issues. I do get an occasional force close(wouldn't say any out of the ordinary on android) but nothing crazy like it was

Gear manager 1.5.220903 update

Just received update 903. Can't see anything different. Will play with it and give update of change.

I haven't noticed any changes. Upgrading didn't involve any drama for the first time though. Also, MarketWatch was added to the "apps" section. Interestingly, MarketWatch is the first app I've seen that doesn't require a companion app on the host device to work.
Looks like they just added a new clock image and finance app

What clock image?
I got MoWeather app in Utilities, Marketwatch in finance. Did you notice they have opened up pretty much all categories in samsung apps, though only a few do have apps now. Keeping my fingers crossed for a BIG update sometime soon with all the promised apps
I dont see any added clock image. Its still the same as the first gear manager release.

I hit restore and I didnt lose any apps.
This update still didn't fix the Feedly removal .
I lost all side loaded apks with the update
It also modified the filesystem, deleted any folders that weren't there to begin with, so any apks that I had on the phone in any additional folders got deleted
I can't connect the Gear Manager to the GEAR after the update... do I have to clear the data of the gear manager app?

You might need to "restart" the phone/gear or both at times after an update.
reboot has the same issue. if does not work connect manually and do restore when prompted

Updated with no issues.
Nothing there valuable.

lucky I had a nandroid, on null_15 the update wiped my data then connected fine... just restored data and I'm back in the game

Last update someone said if you're running null ROM to judge do a Nandroid before updating, then restore /data only after the upgrade and it chugs along fine.

Not to be a jerk but this should have been posted in Q&A section. But anyhow it sounds lije your proximity sensor may be bad. Open your phone app and press menu button to access settings if you cant figure it out I would just backup all the data with Kies 3 or whatever and do a factory reset

Haven't tried a reset, bbut download this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tigermonster.proxfinder and am getting readings for 0 and 8cm (no intermediate) as well as time covered.
So not really sure what to do next. Reset might be only way.

Try this:
Go to- Settings
My device
Call
Turn off screen during calls.
There should be a check next to it. Try turning it off & on again.
Be aware things change if you're using bluetooth...
Hope this helps.

OK thanks trying this now. I've un-ticked rebooted and will re enable then reboot again.
Ok done no joy, will hard resetting the device really work its a pain to set it backup again

Ok thought i would try something after reading elsewhere that dust can effect it quite easily. I have an otterbox defender. Guess what, no problems at all when phone is naked.
Case closed! Ill just have to "deal with it" as they say!

That sounds like your case was blocking the proximity sensor on the front of your device
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I537 using xda app-developers app
Yup thats what i discovered. It doesnt directly block it but the presence of the case close to the sensor must be creating some confusing for it.
