Vibration causing buzzing noise - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm very happy with my Z so far, I'm having to wait for my micro sim to activate, but that's not the phones fault.
However, the vibration seems to be causing a high pitched buzzing, like a piece of paper vibrating. I thought my X10 vibrated aggressively, but even in mid air my Z creates a loud buzz.
I noticed it the first time I pressed the home key and initially thought it may be the screen protector (that matt finish was actually nice to use :/) but even with both the front and back protector gone it's still there.
I guess this is mainly an issue because I never have the ringtone on, just vibrate, and vibrate for Gmail and this Tapatalk too. So if the vibration is faulty I think I'll unfortunately have to get a replacement as I don't want it dieing in a month.
Hopefully I'm being stupid and it's some software thing but I don't think so as it's coming directly from the bottom and not the speaker to the right.
Any feedback on your devices and what you think is wrong with mine (or not wrong if this buzz is normal :/) would be appreciated

Yes it's strong.
Sometimes I jump at night from my bed, just because the phone start buzzing on table.

What about when it's not on a table though? Mine sounds like there is a label or piece on the paper left behind inside the device :/
I just want to make sure it's not faulty

This vibrator is "louder than stronger" , as in all thin phones.
Set vibration strength to max, and write on keyboard very fast. It'll start to sound like a broken shaver

Where would I find the option to change vibration strength?

Made my day, still giggling like a retard
Yes, the vibrator is quite well audible. As pointed out already, part of this is due to the slimness of the device.

Seriously.. I think the system can't control the vibrator well.
Even with moderate vibration, it is not accurate when you type fast on the keyboard. At time it vibrates longer than it should... and that's messed up!
The noise is definitely there.. sounding like a fly stuck each time it vibrates.
I do like this phone.. but each day, the flaws make me think otherwise.. Oh well..

Anyone notice the vibration is missing in action in few places when in Stamina mode?

Ye, I've been thinking it's very hit and miss. Sometimes the navigation bar gives you a vibrate and other times not...

Is there a way to set the vibration strength for incoming calls / mails / etc? The RC car sound of the vibrator is driving me nuts...

I white-listed Smart Connect to deactivate-reactivate mobile data and toggle between vibration mode and normal, all of this from 11.30 pm to 6.20am.
Now, Smart Connect vibrates when an event occurs... it's so strong I don't even need an alarm anymore to wake me up.

My first device had this problem along with noise from the speaker while in a call. The second one got neither! The vibrator is still strong but much less noisy and the speaker and loud speaker are loud without the distortion :-\

I think I'll have to get a replacement :/ the buzz seems far too loud.
But not only that, I think, as I pointed out at the start of this thread, the vibrator is actually faulty abd doesn't vibrate for all texts. I can be fairly sure it's a hardware issue as even running the vibration test in the service menu doesn't always result in a vibration.

My sony z3 compact was dead after being used under water for seconds. I took off the sim card and sdcard, and dried it. I drown it into a sack of rice for 3 days. After that, its still not working but keeps on buzzing for so long time, even I charge it or not. It keeps on buzzing but could not turn on. Somebody help me, or advice me for what happened to my phone. I want to retrieve it.

Low Earpiece Volume

Hi all, I know that I mentioned this in my other thread, but I thought that it should get more visibility. In short, my earpiece volume is extremely low, even when in-call volume is at maximum. It's almost inaudible, even in a quiet room.
I recently found an open tracker for this Issue:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=80817
I'd recommend that anyone affected star this, so it gets addressed pronto.

FWIW, my ear speaker actually seems loud. Had to turn it down. Never had a Nexus device that had to be turned down. I'm still on LNX07M.
Interesting. I don't know if it's related, but I updated to the latest OTA. Hope it's not a hardware issue, as this is definitely not just a little low. It's like a whisper.
Speakerphone is booming though, so hurray for front facing speakers, I guess.
Thank you for sharing the open tracker
Mine was doing this also. What fixed it for me (not sure if this was a coincidence or not) but I turned on the speakerphone will in a call turned volume all the way down, turned off speaker phone and turned phone all the way down then up. Works loud and clear now. Strange though
add my feedback as well.
added feedback too
Bump for other experiencing this.

While the speakers are insanely loud which is good! I am having the same issue with the low volume while in call. I'll give this a try and report back.
Any luck with this working? And if so, is it a permanent fix?

I thought I had this issue until I realized I was not putting my ear over the speaker correctly. I'm coming from the N5 so with this larger phone you have to slide it closer out to your forehead. Try again to align it better.
Similar issue here.
Though in my case, the earpiece is lower in all situations. When watching a video the earpiece will be lower than the bottom speaker. Testing each one individually yields the same results no matter which orientation of the device (left channel right channel test).

Same problem here on a 64 gb from T-Mobile.

I find the volume on the earpiece best when you treat the front facing camera as the earpiece.
Use it on my right ear and it feels weird, use it on the left ear, then it's perfect.
I know this isn't a solution, but if this helps, why not.

After reading this post I realized after having my Nexus 6 almost two weeks, I've still haven't used the phone...
I made a test call, and my earpiece is of adequate volume I actually had to turn it down a little.
BAD MOTO!!
first , its the most expensive nexus device and now the bug is in the MAIN reason phones exist!!
VERY Low ear piece volume, i gifted this phone to my dad and now i am getting it back coz he cant hear a thing, and is fed up of this phone :/ ... this has got to be the priority... i am side loading the OTA and updating to 5.0.1, will let you know if this fixes anything but just wanted to BUMP this tread its a major problem:crying:
I'm on 5.01 and the volume in the earpiece is still low. I mean I can hear it but if I turn it down past half you don't hear anything.
Same problem. Pretty ridiculous.
Just checking in, same issue here. I've tried to make sure I have the earpiece centered over my ear but I have to have the volume on MAX to hear it and even then, it's just not loud enough.
In fact, I've been putting the phone on speaker and turning it down and using it like the if I have any background noise in the room because I just can't hear on it.
My Samsung Galaxy S3 was MUCH louder.

issue sound !!

Hi all
I have problem with the sound i set the volume max but when I receive calls or msg sometimes the sound be low and sometimes be loud
is all have this problem or just me ?
sorry for my bad english

I have not had this problem. Definitely not normal

I know that for calls the ringtone starts low and it increases slowly but I have no issues with notification sounds-they play as laud as I have set the volume.
When you say the sound is low, do you mean for the ear piece? The ear piece has a known issue of having very LOW sound levels for a lot of people.
A good number of people can't hear using the ear piece.
Check out this thread:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=80817
I want to add to that also. So sometimes I notice when my phone is away from my head when I answer a call for example, the call starts out louder but goes lower once the phone is to my head. Now if I check the volume level, it's still at max. I was almost wondering if the phone doesn't have some type of proximity sensor that KNOWS it's near my head due to light levels or whatever. Kinda like how the phone shuts the screen off when it's near your head?
Either way I can NOT use my ear piece to hear calls. I have to turn on my speaker phone on a low volume to hear it!
They need to add a "boost" button like Samsung has on their dialer in TouchWiz.
There was a fix listed at the above url but sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't for me.

The Speakers Megathread

How is everyones speakers holding up? I dont always get a distortion at max volume but there are specific tones where I can hear them. The one specific example I can think of is the default alarm tone (I think its oxygen). Anyone else have a similar experience? Or is the phone supposed to be distortion free for all tones at max volume?
Thanks!
I sometimes get crackling/distortion from the top speaker but I noticed a new issue with mine last night.
I had my handset on silent and pulled down to my quick settings/tiles I switched WiFi on and held the device close to my ear, I could hear a few seconds of a 'buzzing clicking' noise then it stopped, I turned the WiFi off and the same thing again.
It happens on both the top and lower speaker and makes this noise whenever I turn on or off the wiFi or Mobile Data. It also doesn't matter if it's on silent or active notifications.
Is it just the radio being activated/turned off?
Does it happen to anyone else?
l also got my first random shutdown last night too.

The speaker issue is not actually a hardware issue It's actually a bug. Some people get panicked and apply for a replacement but there is a high chance to face the same issue on the replaced device too. But on some device it's a hardware issue which can be evident in ANY volume not in the specifically the HIGHEST volume
How can distortion be a software issue though?

The sound issue can easily be a software issue, it does not necessarily have to be distortion coming from the speaker. That word is being thrown around too easily. But the OS could be sending bad code to the speaker, which comes out sounding like distortion. With the vast amount of people claiming to have this, I am more inclined to think it is more of a software bug.
PS - How is this a "mega" thread'? Just because the OP wants it to sound like an 80's hair metal concert title?

[Q] Strange noise

There is some strange noise coming from my watch. It's similar to the noise comming from headset connected to pc. Is it ok or I should start to worry?

Nope, it makes this noise constantly.
Since it has no speaker (correct me if I'm wrong) the only noise could come from your charger.
First, let others test if they hear the strange sound, too, maybe you heard it once and made it up then (no offense )
Do a factory reset (I don't think I changes something, but to be sure)
If it keeps happening, consider returning it for warranty.

Returning it to warranty is not possible. Right now I'm able to hear that sound(it comes from the bottom-right side of the watch). And factory reset didn't help.
Update: Looks like sound comes only when watch is "sleeping"
The only moving part is the vibration motor, something must be wrong / damaged if it's going off for no reason.

If I put the back of mine up to my ear, I can hear a faint high pitched electrical whine. I too only hear it when watch goes to ambient mode.
Some part of the power system (the watch needs to convert voltage from the battery to several different levels for the electronics & display) oscillates at frequency that is inside of the frequency range humans can hear. I don't know very much about electronics (as you can clearly tell by my explanation), but I'm pretty sure it is "expected" - that's just how it works. Many electronic devices that need to convert voltage levels do the same thing - try to put your ear close to your phone charger, for example.
Sizzling sound when awake
Hi, I have a GWR that recently came back from the LG service center because of display problems: image would continually move and sometimes
had white noise. They changed the motherboard (proven by the new Serial Number ) and it seems like working fine.
But when I put it close to my ear I started hearing a faint sizzling/buzzing sound inside it.
After playing around a little I discovered that I can only hear it when the screen in on (but not when booting up), and only when I use a watch face which displays some data not just the time. Sometimes it seems to be louder when it's connecting to the phone after it's been disconnected.
I think the sound is heard only when the watch is actively using the bluetooth connection, it's the only case that fits.
What should I do, the watch works fine, but what can this sound be ? Could it be dangerous, maybe battery related, can it explode ?
Thanks for any suggestions.
What's the serial number of your watch (you can see ti in Settings -> About)? Maybe it's related.
Mine is 502KP...
sometimes electronic devices with no moving parts generate hisses. (something like sound effect used in movies for showing electric current). i guess it's not important. you can definitely hear it on your charger too.

Huawei p30 pro vibration mode sounds bad

So I just got this phone and it's been awesome until this morning when I was on my phone and the vibrate sounded like it was rattling. I tried calling myself to see if maybe the vibration just was off once but it's constantly now sounding like it's loose when it vibrates. I took the case off that is on and it still does it. When I hold the back near the camera it doesn't sound like it's rattling anymore so I think something is loose inside. I don't want to take it back but it wasn't doing this before and now the vibrate sounds bad and isn't the quiet vibrate it sounded like before. What do I do anyone else have this issue?

Just take it to the service centre for inspection.
Few weeks back, my phone was unable to run
1) camera (only split second black screen n then return to home).
2) No sound at all (except using bluetooth audio)
3) flashlight running but no light.
In conclusion, they replace my phones motherboard without any fussy request.
It was simple and fast. Under 2 hour all things fixed. The fastest Service Centre I have ever experienced.
You should go there.
