[Q] Updating Touchpad - TouchPad Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all!
I've been out of the Android game for a little while and haven't updated my Touchpad in quite some time. I'm kinda looking for some direction in how I should go about updating my tablet to the newest SGA build once it's out. My current stats are as follows :
CWM Recovery 5.0.2.6
Model Number : cm_tenderloin
Android Version : 4.0.3
Kernel Version : 2.6.35
CyanogenMod Version : 9.0.0-RC0 Alpha 2
Like I said, I've fallen out of the loop of what's been happening and just looking for some quick advice of where I should start out in getting this thing updated. Thanks everyone!

Update recovery with Goo Manager or ROM Manager. Download the build you want. Full wipe (system data cache) and flash in recovery.

[EDIT] NVM.. I found it..
I'm looking in GooManager and don't see an option for updating the recovery. Is this something only found in ROM Manager?

Top right hand corner tap the 3 dots followed by install recovery script which will install the latest TWRP recovery.

Wait what about expanding the system partition? Acmeinstaller3?

[Q] Noob Question

Hi, I know this is probably a real noobie question, but I have only just recently flashed CM9 and used it for a few days. Now I have a few apps that I have been using a lot, but I would like to move to nightlys. Would I have to use VRWipe or something similar to wipe out the current build I have, or can I flash Nightlies right over my current build without wiping anything? What is the best way to go rom CM9, to CM9 Nightly?

OOh, ok. Just one last question then, Can I flash the lastest version of nightly (cm-9-20121028), or do i have to flash an older version, then updat?
Newest is fine

You should however get into the habit of using a backup software. Titanium backup works real well.

Compared to 6.0.2.8, you can choose the path you want, nothing more(external card have a path to redirect or direct to internal memory).6.0.2.8 redirect to external card directly ,without possibility to choose. That I remarked.

The keyboard doesn't work on V20D, I flashed it through CWM and it says it flashed but when I go back into my phone there is no difference.
I formatted cache and dalvik cache before flashing the keyboard.
Same thing with the clock.

WiFi not working after flashing custom ROM

Hey guys, I just installed nik's new project x rebirth 3.6 because it looked amazing!
So I wiped data
Wiped cache
I flashed the ROM
And then I Rebooted
I went through the setup everything was fine just that the slider for WiFi was greyed out and it says and is stuck on "turning on..."
I waited really long to see what would happen but no success
All I see it error
I kept trying and trying but no luck
I did everything from wiping data and cache
I reinstalled the ROM
And I flashed and ICS kernel I had lying around on my sdcard but yet no success.
BTW I did not flash a kernel when I flashed the ROM
I flashed an ICS kernel after wiping the data and cache many times thinking it would work
Someone please help! Thanks

Use 4EXT or ClockworkMod v5.0.2.0. V6 is only a port and therefore, there can be some bugs. I know that 4EXT and CWM 5.0.2.0 work. 4EXT is kind of like a modified CWM with extra features here and there. Its also officially supported.
I believe it is kernel related..

Kangaroo Kernel's WiFi works. That is a fact. If it doesn't work, then it might be recovery related where the recovery might not be flashing some modules correctly and whatnot. I used to have the same problem except with dla5244's port of TWRP. That is why I suggested OP use Official ClockworkMod or 4EXT.
Thank you guys so much
It was actually the the recovery
I flashed Clockwordmod v5 and it worked like a charm

at least none that I'm aware of.
4EXT recovery has an app and when you download the file, it will automatically flash for you.

No, you need to put the phone in FASTBOOT USB mode and use the command that was posted.
FASTBOOT is different than recovery mode.

No download ROM manager or 4EXT Recovery Updater (the latter may require a bit more searching).
As i've never really used ROM manager (nor would i ever recommend CWM over 4EXT), I can't really help you there.
For 4EXT Recovery Updater, you will need to wait a bit for downloads and stuff (roughly 5 minutes). After click install/update. Choose touch or normal (i use touch). Select version. It will download and then after downloads finish, it will flash the recovery for you.
Guys I am well aware of Rom manager and 4ext app control ;D

Thanks to everyone in this thread! I was able to get my Nexus 4 working properly following a combination of advice in this forum and a few other places. I wrote a detailed guide for myself in case I run into this problem again; if it helps anyone else, all the better! You can find the full read on dontworrymom-dot-com-backslash-unbrick (can't post links yet). Of course, it worked for me but I can't guarantee anything certain for anyone else. Cheers, guys!

Rooting tab 8.9

Hi, I have been trying to root my P7310 tab using the instructions and root files I found in several threads. My problem is that when I boot in recovery mode I don't get in the list of options the one that says 'apply update from SD card', I only get the option of updating from external storage or cache.
Anyone could help me with this?

Use the guide from here by nirogu325 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1406137
It has all that you need. And when in recovery, it's not necessarily 'apply update from SD card'. Just choose the zip file that you have to flash to gain root. I suggest that you use TWRP recovery on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2602188
Thanks for your help, I will try the instructions although they look a bit complicated for a near novice like me. My problem with the zip file is that when I am in recovery mode I cannot select any path leading to the SD Card root folder where the zip has been uploaded. It drives me nuts, it seems to work for everyone else but me!

The original gingerbread recovery had an option to flash zips. The ICS recovery did not. Rooting was way easier on GB because of this. The only way to root ICS is to install a custom recovery to flash a root.zip file.

Instructions from the guide are relatively easy to follow. Just read the whole lot. I think it would be better if you upgrade to ICS first if your still in Honeycomb.

Ok, I think I need some help. I cannot flash zip drives from the standard ICS recovery as I do not get the option of accessing the SD card (see photo attached) so I can't either root or flash CWMR zip. As suggested I have tried Odin but there are no instructions on how to flash a CWMR zip in the tread, only how to flash ROMs. I have tried to search with the PDA or BOOTLOADER buttons but I cannot load a zip file in Odin. I am really not sure what to do now?

CyanogenMod instaled and unusable, I have installed GoogleApps separately but they do not show up anywhere. The browser does not work so I cannot try to access gooleplay. The PC does not recognise the tablet any more and I cannot transfer files. Well done me!
I suppose I could go back installing a stock ROM with Odiin, the problem is that the only post I have found with stock ROMs has links to Hotfiles.com which is no longer in service. Can anyone direct me to any other link where I could download a stock ROM for P7310?
Thank you.

Have you tried sammobile.com for the firmware?

Done! Not without drama... At first the system would not reboot, had to flash custom recovery, wipe everything and flash the ROM again and then it restarted. Not sure I am going to mess up with my tab again! Stuck to ICS forever it seems...

Well yeah I didn't mention that you should do a full wipe first because I thought you already knew that
anyway, hopefully messing up with your tab won't be necessary, cuz stock ICS is the best, personally I use this tweaked one:
[ROM][ICS][STOCK][P7300/P7310][LQJ/LPV][Deodexed/Odexed] Final Build [14/1/14]
It is the best!!!:victory:
Cheers, what are the differences with the tweaked ROM you have?

Agree, I've tried the 10.1.3 and 10.2 CM versions before. But IMHO, overall performance is not on par with stock ICS.

It's a matter of preference, actually. In my case, I used the original firmware on the thread and tweaked it to my liking.
