[Q] Completely bricked or salvageable? - LG Optimus 2x

Hey there,
Just today I decided to download a new ROM for my LG Optimus 2x. I tried to install the ParanoidAndroid CM10 ROM via the CWM Recovery. (place files on SD card, reboot in recovery, wipe, install) But I accidentaly installed the version for the new bootloader instead of the old bootloader which I still have. So needless to say, that didn't work and I was stuck with a boot loop, the phone didn't get passed the LG animation screen. So I figured out that I needed the older bootloader version. I downloaded it, put it on my SD and tried to boot into CWM Recovery... nothing. It did not catch the Power + Volume-down combination and instead just continues its regular boot-loop with the LG animation.
I had flashed a ROM with nvflash before, so I installed the drivers (I tried this step on 2 PC's mind you) and put the phone in the desired state (battery out, usb cable connected, press volume-up and volume-down for a short while). But to my surprise, my computer did not recognise the phone. It doesn't even see it connected or anything! I did install the LG Mobile drivers beforehand, if that makes any difference, but nothing changed the situation, I couldn't get my PC to recognise my phone in NVFlash mode.
Okay. I'm a though guy so I figured I could still try and use the Smartflash method. So I install the drivers necessary, hook my phone up with the battery removed, hold the volume down-key and I see the "Upgrading software" screen, good! But again my computer did not recognise my phone just a little bit. It doesn't show up in the device manager and neither do I have an option to install additional drivers.
I'm baffled by all this since I did not think one ****-up would brick(?) my phone this bad. Is there any way that I could just get it working again? For now I really don't care what ROM version I have to install, I just want it functional again
Thanks!

LG O2X is 99.99999999% is un brickable.....have you tried the AIOT kit by Sprosk or the Nvflash stuff by Progmaq....
In addition tho this: partitions changed normally with nvflash method.....is it done through CWM?

I did. I tried both the nvflash stuff and the smartflash method. But somehow my computer does not recognise the device while it's plugged in. It doesn't even see that something is plugged in.
I'm sorry but I'm not sure what you mean with the partitions changing through CWM. Could you please elaborate on that?

the old and new bootloader are different in partition layout and the size of partitions....this can be done through only the nvflash method, or kdz method.
look at the AIOT tool kit thread opening post for more information.....
The ROMs which are based on the old boot loaders are not compatible with the new bootloader.....vice versa
-have you tried to change your USB cable?
-tried changing the USB ports?
-using win8, then you need to do it differently.....so check that too
-try using ports directly connected to motherboard....not through any USB hubs
Hope this helps you

Make sure you are pressing and holding both volume keys while you are plugging the USB cable in. Pressing them after plugging the cable in will not put the phone into APX mode.

Samsung Captivate only boots to download mode and won't recognize on PC

Okay.
I bought a Samsung Captivate from a company on Amazon a few weeks ago, and it started having the problem with the speaker cutting out. I took it apart to try the two fixed I'd googled - loosening the speaker screw and reseating the speaker ribbon - and neither worked, and now the speaker is completely dead. That isn't my biggest problem, though.
Somehow in the process of the above, I did something that made it so that the phone will only boot into download mode. I can hold down the power and volume buttons and get it to reboot, but it only reboots into download mode again, and won't recognize in windows via the USB cable. It did recognize once, and I used Odin3 to get it back to a factory reset image (it was running stock firmware, but I'd rooted it to remove the AT&T apps) thinking in vain that it might help, but it still only boots into download mode.
But there's the weird thing: It won't power off in download mode unless I pull the battery out, but if I put it back in then plug in the USB cable while holding both volume buttons, it boots right into android, no problem. Everything's fine except the speaker still doesn't work, it doesn't show to be charging while plugged into the USB cable, and still won't recognize the USB in Windows. But if I turn the phone off and back on, I'm back in non-recognizing download mode again.
Everything otherwise works fine once I get it into android, I can even tell it to erase all settings and factory reset, and it reboots itself, re-flashes to stock, and works fine until I power off and back on, then back to download mode.
So I guess the question is oh god what have I done?
Freud,
I too am having this issue with my roommate's phone. The only way I can get it to boot is if I perform a restore using a Odin3 image. However once it's turned off it only boots into download mode. I nor the roommate have opened the phone. It just one day decided to keep booting into download mode.
Any asistance in this matter would be appreciated! Thank you.

I can only offer a solution to the windows connection issue, once the phone is connected to pc, go into device manager and uninstall drivers for whatever it sees, unplug phone then plug back in and windows should reinstall drivers. Worked for me, odin wouldnt see phone . GL
This will solve your speaker issue
http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p5197.m570.l1311&_nkw=samsung+i897+speaker&_sacat=0
And this should solve your download mode issue

I'm having a similar issue where my PC does not recognize the device. Right now I have no ROM installed, I have Devil Recovery, and I can only boot into recovery and Download Mode. However 2 different PC's will not recognize the phone. I've tried multiple cables and one PC was Windows 8, one was Windows Vista. Both had the most recent drivers installed. Nothing works....any clue? I can't mount the /sdcard or USB Storage while in recovery because the PC doesn't pick up the phone. The internal storage doesn't have a ROM or kernel to flash on it neither so I cannot flash anything. I have a captivate that has Devil Recovery and can boot into download mode but will computers will not recognize the device, drivers installed or not.

Have you tried to uninstall the current drivers, reboot pc and reinstall them?
Also, it could be devil kernel that is faulty. If Odin can recognize the phone, you could flash a different kernel. Or even flash stock KK4, then corn kernel and finally, the ROM you wanna flash through recovery.
I just cannot get the PC to recognize the phone at all, even in download mode. I've tried 2 pc's and multiple USB cables, samsung, non-samsung, motorola, universial. Nothing, just says USB cannot recognize this device. Reinstalled drivers on 2 pc's and rebooted several times. I am lost, I know I'm not bricked because I can access download mode and recovery. I do not have a ROM on my internal card so I can't flash a ROM and can't mount my phone to my PC. No clue what to do.
---------- Post added at 02:59 PM ---------- Previous post was at 02:10 PM ----------
I just need my PC to recognize my device and I'd be good, odin would then recognize my device in download mode and I could flash a different kernel or rom.
Try cleaning out the micro usb port of ur phone. Maybe the contacts are not making good contact.

Still no luck...I got my PC at work to recognize the phone ONCE. It went through and recognized it like it normally would, however it wouldn't recognize it again. I've been trying on my PC at home all last night and all morning and still no go. It won't recognize it. Now one thing I thought about is that I am on Windows 8. The PC at work that recognized it was Windows Vista. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I wouldn't care so much if I didn't just sell it for $150 I just wanted to give the person a more updated ROM and ended up screwing something up when flashing the ROM.

Ok so I know you've uninstalled and reinstalled drivers several time. But what drivers are you using and when you plug the phone into your pc what is it showing as in the device manager?
They may be exactly what you are using but I added some drivers to this post you might want to try. Just unzip then through device manager update the drivers for your device manually and point it to that folder.
I added these drivers because I'm on Win8 as well and I noticed when I was in recovery that my phone wasn't showing up correctly in the device manager. After installing these drivers it was.
Thanks I'll try that when I get home, I am using the most recent drivers on the Samsung website for the Captivate.
So I got it to boot and be recognized by my computer and I used a 1 click method with CWM and it passed so the Odin flash. So no I basically have a on rooted captivate running 2.5 gingerbread and it is totally sellablebel now. I have no idea what caused my computer to recognize it I didn't even try your drivers yet, but thanks for trying to help.

Lgp990 stuck at logo screen, not detected by windows

Hi there, I'm new here but I have been following this forum for a long time.
Here's my problem:
I own a LGP990 with DJANGO rom. apart from the random stuck in the DJANGO loading screen which required me to reinstall it, it was all working fine.
Until yesterday, when I plugged it to recharge. The battery charged for a while and then got stuck for hours when almost done.
I unplugged it and try to turn it on but since that moment it always gets stuck at LG logo screen and when plugged it doesn't display any battery charging. I then tried to start recovery to reinstall from zip as I did every time it got stuck in the django loading screen, but recovery does not start.
No problem, I thought, lets smartflash/nvflash a stock rom and i'm good to go. Wrong, the phone won't even get recognized by windows, though I installed the driver several times (disabling driver signature as well) and running it as admin; i tried different driver versions, different usb cables... It does not even play that background sound when plugging usb devices...
I'm using windows 7 32bit.
That's it, I have ran out of ideas... anyone got one? (besides sending it to assistance, since warranty is voided)
little edit: whenever i plug the battery the phone start by itself!

I meant to enter recovery. If your phone turns on when you put in the battery, the power button is stuck in a connected position so to enter recovery remove the battery, press the vol- and then insert the battery. If you get your phone to enter recovery and reflash the rom I will tell you what to try to fix the issue.
1.)remove battery
2.)press volume - and volume +
3.)connect phone to pc via usb
4.)download apx driver
5.)(go to device manager install manually apx driver, select the folder where you downloaded and extracted apx ini driver file
6.)flash using nvflash
7.)enjoy.

AIO tool has an option to install Nvflash driver. Its the last option in a different color.
Or you could try to reinstall LG driver. I just downloaded the latest driver from lg support tool today. It works fine.
And be noted that you have to hold down both volume up and down while plugging the USB cable to enter nvflash mode. Holding vol down while plugging the cable in will enter boot loader mode which is not the same thing. Remember to remove the battery first of all.

[Q] How can you flash a brick when your pc won't recognise your device

Hi there so I today truied to update to Eagles Blood custom Rom using Rom Manager to flash the new rom onto my O2x. The rom supposedly installed correctly but then when it booted it just gets to the unlock screen you unlock it then it reboots after a couple of seconds.
I can't get into recovery mode by the usual power on volume down technique as this just results in the phone continuing to load. I have tried different combos of power button reboots with volume button up, volume down and both together none work the only difference is that one of those results in just the LG logo rebooting.
I read a few posts about using nvflash or even the lg recovery tool using imei number etc but still no dice basically when I do the connect to the pc with both volume buttons pressed and the battery out it connects but doesn't recognise the device. I try the device manager and updating or removing the driver but regardless of how and what I try it either tells me it's using the most current driver or that no driver is actually installed.
This the same when using NV Flash i can't apx drivers installed and the device if I try to skip that step and go straight to the flash.bat command i just get usb device not found or connected or something like that.
Please help i am willing to try anyrhing and i really don't have the money for a new phone. I only have to get it working long enough or far enough so i can reinstall my backup i did before attempting the rom install this morning.
try connecting to different usb port(I suggest the backport of your PC)
and if that didn't work, must be a faulty cable.

Unfortunately the cable is fine as if I'm not holding the power or volume keys I'm charging the batteries. I'm thinking there's something wrong with windows and the way it detects it possibly as i've trawled a fair amount of forums and tried a lot of what others have managed to get working with exception to someone else who had the same problem but couldn't get a resolution (that he posted about).
May be your USB port was broken.
Have you actually installed the apx drivers required for nvflash to work?
http://www.modaco.com/topic/335416-nvflash-setup-instructions-drivers-links-active/
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
you're not on Hard Brick, right?
can you try Smartflashing?
you need to install LG united drivers first.
APX won't install
So the problem is that my PC will pick up the unknown device. But it will not allow the install of the drivers. I can install the LG universal driver. The phone will connect as a unknown device only with error code 43 (device has been stopped) you try installing the APX drivers and the install of those drivers fail with error code 10 (can't start the device) this happens on both my stuffed phone and the brand new replacement so I am at a loss I have tried this on Windows 7 pc and also a Win 7 laptop (64 bit and 32 bit respectively).
The whole affair is frustrating as hell as I an't get my new O2x recognised either I can't root that to put my nandroid backup on and I am stuck on Froyo that I can't seem to root at all or even use lg update tool to update it to the latest stock firmware.
WHat about rooting apps
So with the obvious ways not working are there any actual apps I can install on my phone that will root it that way I am certain this is how I did it on my first O2x just can't remember what the name of the app was. So if anyone has apps or links to apps that may do this and or do do this please post back.
Have you actually tried a different USB cable? I notice you said the cable charges the phone, but this doesn't mean that other cores/pins other than the ones used for charging aren't damaged.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
different windows and different drivers
My suggestion would be try it on some other computer and different drivers. Or on same computer but reinstall Windows and ofc different drivers.
I'm suggesting this because I had experienced some what similar things on LG phones.

Phone stuck in a reboot loop - USB connection faulty

Hey guys,
my Optimus 2x running the newest CM10 Paranoid Android ROM decided to enter a reboot loop today.
There honestly was nothing I did that could've been a cause for that, so it's rather confusing.
Anyway, removing the SD card and/or the SIM card didn't yield any results, power has since been plugged and unplugged, just as the battery, but nothing helped either.
When I try to use the AIO-Toolkit with the nvflash drivers installed, plugging the phone without the battery in as described there gives me a Windows Explorer popup saying that the device could not be recognized and that there is something wrong with the device.
There is a recovery installed on this device, however I only used it with the "Reboot to recovery"-option from Android yet, and both starting the phone with the lower volume button and the upper volume button pressed did not yield to a recovery boot.
Are there any options left I could try?
EDIT: I was able to get into the Team Win Recovery Project recovery and - using another cable - I was also able to use nvflash. I'll proceed with nvflash soon and wait for the results.

In the end, I solved it by using another USB cable.
Somehow, the one that came with my P990 would let me charge it via USB, but wouldn't allow it to be recognized...

Can't enter in flash mode

Hello to all,
I would like to install a custom ROM but unfortunately my phone doesn't want to enter in flash mode! Once switched off, I plug it to my computer while keeping vol down button pressed but instead of entering in flash mode, it displays the battery charging icon.
I hard reset the phone but the problem still remains. Any idea.
Thanks, have a nice day!
My guess is either the USB cable (did you use the OEM cable?) or the drivers (does windows recognize your phone?). Removing the SD card or first entering recovery were suggested earlier (http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-l/help/update-volume-connect-doesnt-t2613733). But more experiences Z3c owners may have better ideas...

Using flashtool:
Turn phone off completely.
Start flashtool, choose flashmode and choose which firmware you are going to use. Tick Exclude TA.. Click on flash.
It will start preparing the build and after a few seconds it will ask you to connect the phone.
Plug the phone in while holding volume down, as soon as flashtool starts doing something, you can let go.
If you don't know how to use flashtool then I urge caution, Sony's aren't like flashing a Samsung, it is actually possible to brick your phone with flashtool. There are lots of questions on 'how do I fix my phone?' in this Q&A thread from people who didn't read up on what they were doing.
Recommend you read bilboa1's great guide on what to do, starting with backing up your TA partition..
Thanks for your answers but I think the mini usb from my phone must be dead.
About Flashtool, I can't use it because I can't go into Flash mode! Moreover, my phone is not recognized by windows. I tried with several usb cables and computers when I plug it, I don't have any MTP or PTP choice, it can only charge..
On Windows 10, devices is not recognized and Window 7 see it as a 5880!
And I tried to remove SD and SIM cards..

If the USB lead was dead you wouldn't get the charging icon on your phone.
Have you installed the Sony drivers.
You also need to run exe in the Drivers folder within Flashtool, to make sure you have correct flashomde drivers available. Installing these drivers is very difficult in Windows 10 and it require restarting the machine in safe mode, and going into the advanced settings to disable driver signature checking, this how to video is for windows 8, but you'll get the idea
Have you installed ADB?
Sonys PC Companion should set you up with the correct connection to your PC
Have you tried other USB cables?

Yes, I've installed PC Companion, adb drivers but nothing appears when I use command "adb devices". I've also installed flashtools drivers but deactivating drivers signatures in Windows. But when I try to flash, flashtool ask me to turn my device in flash mode (switch off then volume down + power) but I can't do that.
I've tried several usb cables. Some are charging my devices, some are aren't but none of them allows me to data transfer!
I've also tried to force MTP or PTP usb transfer in developper option, it doesn't work more..

Do you have any warranty on your phone, you could be right that the usb socket is damaged somehow, but it's strange that you can still get a charge through it.
Your only chance at moving to a custom rom change is flashfire
This should let you flash a rom without recovery.
Edit: Flashmode is just holding down just - volume button, not volume+power
Obviously your chances of rescuing a failed install are going to almost zero without recovery and flashtool, so be very very careful about what you try and flash in flashfire. Read up completely that the rom you want to flash is going to work pushed on top of whatever you are running at the moment.
For anyone who might be interested, sometimes you have to try a USB 2.0 port or just a different port. I had the same problem while using a usb 3 port, switched to 2.0 worked like a charm.
Try to open the back of the phone and removing/unplugging the battery wait 5 seconds and then put it in again. Then try holding down the volume down button while you connect a usb cable.
