So today I was browsing the Xperia Z source (10.1.A.1.350.tar.bz2) searching for some display drivers. Maybe try to enhance them - like color calibration. Anyway, while I was browsing external, there was a folder named quake. Nothing out of the ordinary, maybe a code name for some app, idk. Still investigating, I came across the icon of quake and some source code for the real game.
There I was wondering, what the f--- does Quake do in the Xperia Z source code and how can I access it from my device ?
anyone?
Lol really? And this was source downloaded directly from Sony? Quake isn't protected by copyright any longer so there is no problem with including the code. Maybe it is used in some test? Pretty damn funny I must say hehe.

This really needs to be answered! Anybody out there that knows his way into Sony and find the answer for us?
Also: is it only Sony, or do other manufacturers also have the Quake folder? :amazed:

Besides the fact that this is a TEST SAMPLE, not the final thing: are you seeing something different than I see? Because judging by the YouTube video, the X1 is pretty fast.
Btw: the Xperia is made by HTC but developed by SE. HTC was not much involved into the hardware development, they're just the manufacturer.
Xperia Hype?
Having read thru various conflicting reports and editorials about the Xperia's release date, thought it was funny to see some retailers/ dealers/ Sony ninjas feed the hype machine for the Xperia.
From my understanding it wont be released fall, end of fall, next year spring, or something of that sort but it's kinda interesting to see the hype machine hasn't stopped...even here in Canada!

This thread should serve as a project to find people who would be able and willing to help implement a port of Marble Madness or an equivalent game for the Diamond using the G Sensor.
Marble Madness is on the wish list in the G Sensor Apps thread and since I believe it would be a great implementation (& demonstration) of the Diamond's G Sensor, also adding a futuristic touch to this classic arcade game, I thought it would be worth a separate thread.
It is already available as a Java application for Sony Ericsson K850i / W910i e.g. here (using the g sensor) but it does not work on the Diamond. cgeboers already mentioned it may require the sensor SDK on Java.
I found an equivalent implementation called Neverball and the good news is - it is open source. There is already a port available for the iPhone.
While you want to look into these two implementations already and see if it can be ported, we should be also looking for more alternatives/equivalent games, preferrably with the source code available.
I am not an active developer myself anymore but I'd be happy to help facilitate and support this project. As a side effect, a successful implementation could possibly reuse the code to publish a generic game controller (or Wiimote), also on the G Sensor Apps wish list.
Playing Marbel Madness with the G-Sen... what a freakin' awesome idea
I am very much in favour for that... PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAS anyone out there how can do it
Or PAC-MAN ?
Can't be very hard to do.

Hi!
Just wondering if it would be possible to port those games...it would rock to have Undying on my phone!
As far as I can figure the only reason Quake was ported is because the engine is open sourced.
I don't think those other games (or many for that matter) are open sourced. So unless there are Linux versions that could be ported, I wouldn't hold your breathe.
I hate this answer but it makes a lot of sense lol
Oh well, here goes my dream
I'm not sure your dream was viable to begin with. Undying is possible, I suppose, but Prey is a much more demanding game than Q3 is.
How about counter strike?? Isn't that open sourced??

i would really like to see a rts such as the original command and conquer ported over, its not open source but the free cnc engine would do the trick i guess.... though i am talking out of my butt.
but i think an rts would be pretty intuitive on even a small touch screen and would port over pretty well. if the source code was released that is..

There are a couple of windows mobile warcraft and warcraft II ports floating around based on Stratagus engine.
http://stratagus.sourceforge.net/
It is free (might be open source'd not sure) but has been replaced by Bos Wars.
http://www.boswars.org/
If there is an Android port of the BOS Wars game you could replace it with Warcraft/Warcraft II assets.
This is the only MAME emulator I've found that supports the classic games. It emulates a GP2X game console which supports .34/.35b roms only. It doesn't seem to recognize the newer roms.
I can only find it by using the links on this page or scanning the QR Code with my phone.
http://www.androlib.com/android.application.com-jrioni-jarcade-qCqA.aspx
I had to use my phone and scan the QR Code with the Barcode Scanner App to open the page in the MarketPlace. If anyone could provide a link, it would be great as the GTab doesn't have the resolution to scan the QR Code as well as being a PITA with only one camera.
UPDATE: Tried to use my phone to blowup the QR Code to scan it as the link wasn't working for the GTab for some reason. Got it to scan with Barcode Scanner, but it linked to the same page in the Marketplace. It didn't make a difference though. It seems there is still something missing from the Marketplace implementation on the GTab and this is after the last Marketplace hack involving changing the build.prop. Sideloading after downloading from a device that can use this like appears to be the only way to go to load this for now.
TigerMAME, which is found easily on Android Marketplace only supports Neo Geo/CPS1/CPS2 games.
Once purchased and installed, you need to wait for him to send you a code to unlock and activate the emulator. It took more than 24 hours, so be patient.
I was able to convert some roms to work with this using his instructions on his blog:
http://jrioni-arcade.blogspot.com/2009/09/howto-rom.html
Playing with WiiMote Keyboard works. You will need to UNCheck the WM Sideways option in the keyboard settings for the WiiMoteIME Settings. The emulator assumes you're turning it sideways. The Wiimote is difficult to play MAME with, looks like it's time to buy a Classic Controller Pro!
I wish it played the full set supported by GP2X, but it only works with about one third of the roms GP2X supports. I went through them all, since have full set for my Dingoo and PSP and used the app with G1, Droid and Incredible (probably one of the first people that bought his app in 2009).
Jioroni messed up, since this app and the PC Engine would have doen well, were it not for his code validation process. His efforts to prevent piracy actually has hurt him more than selling through the market straight.
Yeah I was a little put off by the piracy precautions as well. It's scary when you have only 24 hours to return it and it takes almost 2 days to get a code. I did reprocess the roms as he had outlined in his blog post and a lot of them were able to play successfully. I have some issues maybe you might know how to solve like the galaga missing ship exploding sound or sounds in donkey Kong. I know in the PC version there was a sample directory to address this is there something like this?

All common issues with MAME .34 & .35. Still young app back then.
This project appears abandoned. No activity on the blog since 2009, and though Jarcade shows up in the market, if I try to buy it, I get a server error.
Are there any emulators that play the early Mame games from the eighties?
I was actually surprised that mame doesn't exist for android. I want to play old-school 80's games and I think most would be perfect for android devices.

Perhaps it's beause while the code is available, it cannot be used commerically, so no monetay gain for the wouldbe developer. I installed the Android sdk + all the other required software, just to get a feel for what would be involved in porting mame. The NDK might provide some help using the existing C code, rather than converting everything to java, but at this point I'm still learning how to import existing java code into my test projects.
The other problem as I see it, is that Mame runs with the command line or a frontend. I may be able to get some code for a java frontend, but adding it to the project and connecting it is beyond my current limited abilities.
There's also the source code MAMEUI, which has a GUI. Written for windows tho
Yes it wouldn't have a monetary gain, but that hasn't stopped people previously from porting mame to everything under the sun. The one device I thought would have it for sure, doesn't.
And yes a front-end would be an issue and add development time, and so would an a control overlay. Someone needs to standardize some game development tools one thing being virtual controls so other game developers who need on screen controls can just place say an 8 way controller and two buttons. But that's another matter.
Well, I hope mame gets ported one day but if it hasn't already I don't think it's just around the corner.

I've been going through the Android SDK tutorials / layouts section and believe that creating a frontend may be the easiest part. Haven't yet learned how to pass values to from the Java frontend to the native C code, but I'm sure it's very possible.
The initial release of this theoretical MAME port could be without a control overlay. The user could use the navigation keys on their Android device if available, or something external like a wiimote.
Another thought is that perhaps MAME could be compiled for Android and launched via the command line in the Terminal emulator.

Hello everyone, Its been just two days since I brought my brand new Xperia TX from Sony Showroom.
Problem is, I cannot download Gameloft HD games like, Modern Combat 3 or 4, N.O.V.A 2 or 3 or 4. Saying that my device is unsupported. My very cheap Local Walton(only 1 GHZ 1 core and 512 RAM) Android Mobile supports all of the mentioned games.
Though I played and finished Modern Combat 3, which was downloaded form torrent with SD data.
Why my Xperia TX is not supported, Its a Play Station certified mobie. :crying:
I seem to remember a very similar thread to this one.
It ay be in the Q&A section, you should search for it and post in there.
Or, you can realise the other thread was started by you and that there is no need to start a new thread for the same issue
You can follow the advice I gave to you in the other thread. Email the app developer and ask for support
I just checked the PLay store for all those titles and all where available and registered compatible with my Xperia T.
Possibly not available in your region? Or they havent distinguished between T and TX when listing compatibilities.
Only thing you can do is raise it with the developers and ask them to investigate. At the end of the day they are the ones losing your custom to torrents when you are more than willing to pay for the games but can't.

Sounds then like gameloft are not distinguishing correctly between T and TX you will need to contact them directly. Should be details on contacting them on the item pages.

OK, you have been given the same advice now twice in this thread and once in the other thread you created about this.
Have you actually followed through and done it yet?
So for the fourth time, email the developer and ask them to add support for your phone.
^^^^
Do what gregbradley mentioned above. In case of App incompatibility the best the thing to do, is to inform the developer, wait and see what they reply.
Thank you all very much. I really appreciate. :good:

I didn't faced any problem yet, but I'm tensed about this heating issue. Cuz it may harm the screen or SD Card as I saw many toasted?broken SD Card issue in many forums.
