this guy is faking his way through his releases, i would not trust this post, and it can only be used for educational purposes,
the boot.img standards are not followed by LG anyways, so it will most likely fail, which i saw with my clockworkmod bootstrap also based on some of these builder files, but! only some files not complete image.
do not trust this post!

[Q] Rom and flashing material

I am generally new (noob) if you will to dev for androids. I am rooted, over clocked, add free and other thing but what I haven't tried yet is getting new roms, kernels, etc. I would like to learn these functions so I can upgrade my phone. Does anyone have and material, websites, etc. on flashing or installing different roms that I.can look over to learn about the process and how to do it exactly? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I can't imagine how your over clocked if u haven't flashed a different kernel. Anyways look around the general section, you may have to dig alittle but all the info your looking for is here.

You can use stock kernel and overclock at the same time.
I finally tried it last night but I.got stuck in a loop I believe.. I tried flashing thriller.. lucky I installed cwm recovery and had backed up my last phone. When I flash a.new Rom do I have to return the phone to factory settings? The tutorial I was using was for the old version on cwm recovery and didn't translate to the new one so I basically had to make an educated guess.
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
This is exactly what I did. I installed cwm recovery. I.backed up my phone. I downloaded the thriller zip. Connected my.phone to computer and cut and pasted the thriller zip folder onto my SD card. I booted in cwm recovery. And clicked install from SD I found the thriller Rom and downloaded it. Once it was done I clicked re booted normally and when I did this it only showed a bunch of colors coming.g together into and x and did that for 10 minutes until I booted into cwm recovery again and restored from my latest back up. Anything I did wrong or didn't do? Any help would be appreciated.

Not quite sure what your asking but yes if i was you when you flash a knew rom do three wipes, factory, cache, davik. if you dont it could cause boot issues.

Extremely unnecessary wipes.
Factory reset does these three things.
Wipes /data
Wipes /cache
Wiping dalvik-cache is useless in a factory reset as "dalvik-cache" is stored in "/data".
OK so from your experience am I doing it right except for the factory wipe? Or are the wipes unnecessary? Thanks for the print responses too!
Sent from my LG-P925 using xda app-developers app
Its important to know what version software your running. I believe the thriller rom only works on android software version 2.2 aka froyo. If your phone is running 2.3 gingerbread that would be the reason why the rom didn't work. Check in settings>aboutthisphone>androidversion to see which software you've got. I'm relatively new to all this also but I hope I helped

I'd suggest always doing a wipe when going from ROM to ROM.
This is how I do my wipes.
NANDROID current ROM
Flash new ROM
If I even see one force close, I factory reset.
@lestat.. but when I do wipe it.. doesn't it wipe the SD card too? Like when I hit factory settings does it clear SD as well?

I'm not sure on that as I always use ClockworkMod to factory reset.
It doesn't touch your SDcard.

You'll have to try the ROMs for yourself. I can't say for myself as a dev.
I personally like thrill seeker. The original developer had to give up on it because he's been busy, but another dev (Bdadd34) has picked it up and is continuing to work on it. I like it because its stable and very simple to flash and I don't have to flash to a different baseband (which I've never tried). Also from reading on here for a while I know lestat's acidhazard rom is a favorite among most not only for the thrill here in the US, but also for a lot O3D users. His is a rom kitchen so you pretty much build the rom with features you want. its still a little over my head but lestat has a great reputation on here for being super helpful. I'm sure he'd explain it much better or just check out his website which I'm sure a link is in the post for his rom.

I'm using Dark's acidhazard rom with acura's beast 1.3 extreme low voltage kernel. I have no complaints and the support from dark is incredible. I'm on v20p too and I haven't experienced any ghost calls yet. *knocks on wood* I would definitely recommend acid hazard..

flashing only custom recovery possible ????

guyz previously i was using lg p500 and i found a method to flash only custom recovery on it.
link : ( forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318750 )
Now i am using lg p970 n i m away from home so no computer with me. I just want to know is it possible to flash only custom recovery on lg p970.
If any one can test ,it would be of great help to all lg p970 users.
As i did for lg p500.
we need original partition file and recovery file.
using original partition file and renaming the custom recovery file to name as original recovery file. Flashing them both from flash tool used for lg p970 should install custom recovery without any changes to other memory area.
Is this possible ?
I think "lg extract" gives us partition n other files of system. is it ??
i havent used it. but hope some one of u try if its possible.
There is a cwm inject method on noob guide in general sections stickys i think.

Yes u can flash cwm only. Look for cwm touch somewhere here. Redy made a flash script and the corresponding package with cwm touch in it. But you definitly need root, to flash it i think.

Hey you need to get TWRP installed and then you should be good from there. Find the TWRP forum back a page then follow the instructions there. If you have never flashed a recovery before there are really good instructions in the CWMR thread. You might try flashing CWM first if you are a noob (I used CWMR for a while and it's a great recovery too) . Basically you need to get odin, and the adb drivers for your device. Turn your device off and put it in download mode (Power button and both volumes, then release power once it vibrates). Have odin ready with your custom recovery in the PDA slot. Once your device plugged in and in d/l mode odin will recognize it (if not you did something wrong).

Depends on what you mean by stable. While most features seemed to work okay, for me video play-back was horrible. Videos skipped and lagged. Since video playback is a major thing for me it's a deal breaker as it stands. I hope it in the future it gets fixed. Other than that though.. all was good with it

No rom, no rom in recovery to flash, no backup

Pretty much just that. Not sure what to do. Flashed trickdroid 5.3 and like the ****ty luck I always have with any phone, data stopped transferring to the phone via usb. I could take it off, but when I tried to put **** on it said "Phone has either been disconnected or isn't available" or something like that. Got ARHD 8.0 on my phone via adb push, thought **** was good so I formatted the **** out of my phone, go to flash it and it's a "bad" rom. Lmao ok. ****. Any tips?

Best recovery

Hey guys I am just wondering what the best and most stable recovery for my phone would be. I know that CWM is very unstable because I did screw up my phone. So I want to know if WCX or TWRP is better and has less chance of screwing up my phone because I will be flashing a lot due to my dev work.

Agree that TWRP is the best. There is an issue with some that versions 2.4xx would crash and reboot randomly when performing restores and/or installs. Version 2.5 was supposed to correct this, but it didn't for me, so I reverted to 2.3.3.0 and so far so good. YMMV.

All recoverys can flash anything,,, WCX's recovery looks like CWM and no where in the vivid forum will it tell you that someone recommends CWM Most people are either twrp or WCX (imo people think one is better but to be truthful they are just they same,.. they both work)
