Be aware that if you unlock it, if you send it back to Sony for warranty repair, it will be reverted to factory settings, I.e. Simlocked again. I've just got my s back from having its yellow screen replaced and it's now simlocked to o2 and the bootloader unlock status is now no

Call Orange
All you have to do is call Orange Customer Service and they will send you the code.
Last time I did it, it cost me £15 payable on my next bill (if you are on pay monthly).
They can't say no to your request as they don't own the phone. Actually, the didn't ask me any questions, they just did it.
Hope that helps :good:

Wow you guys pay for sim unlock? All phones from carriers here are sim unlocked and have unlockable bootloaders.
It is required by law, but I like it.

I don't have a second microSIM to check if it is network locked, but I am pretty sure it is... Could someone confirm?

Wow, you were lucky. I purchased a second hand Orange locked phone and because it didn't come with its original SIM Orange couldn't/wouldn't unlock it. They said it needed an Orange SIM in for them to see it to unlock, the IMEI alone wasn't enough. And, if they could have done it, they would have apparently charged £30. Advised me to go to one of those little high street shops to have it done.
Orange customer service (a misnomer) sucks, by the way. I've dealt with them before with a similar experience. Rant over.
It's now £20.50! For the unlock!!!

Yes, I bought one it set me back £19.50 :banghead:

Go into the service menu *#*#7378423#*#*
Service info
SIM lock
If there's [x] next to network, it's locked. The number after it is the amount of unlock attempts remaining.
However, if the phone came from Orange, you will be able to use it on T-Mobile and EE without needing to unlock it.

After a quick call to Orange customer service, I was told that I had to wait 5 months before they could unlock it as I bought it from new :crying:

There is a seller who provides codes for £17.70 now. I used a code from him to unlock SP.
So I pick up my new XZ on saturday.
The first thing I'm going to do is route this bad boy. I have read lots of info regarding the various methods used.
My question is can the bootloader be unlocked on a T-mobile uk XZ??
Enter service menu and Check uself. No need to make another tread about it.

They supplied me with an unbranded, sim free phone. The bootloader is unlockable.

Direct from T Mobile it will be locked, if through third party but with SIM, should be unlockable...

Wrong. I upgraded direct from T-Mobile via their upgrade line. I have an unbranded device as I already stated.
T-Mobile UK branded Zs do not even exist.

I stand corrected then by saying it is as standard, I remarked because a friend of mine got one after seeingmine and his is not unlockable.

Looking to get myself a Sony Xperia Z at the shops tomorrow.
I've found one thats locked to the 3 network (UK).
Just wanted to check that it should be simple anouph to unlock it to any network
Thanks
Ben
You will be able to buy an unlock code to network unlock it.
However, as it is a carrier branded handset, the bootloader will be permanently locked, which means you will be unable to flash CM/PAC/AOSP based roms. I don't know if that's important to you or not, but you should be aware of that.

Just a word of caution. I tried to have mine unlocked from 3 and they point blank refused. High street shops won't touch it either. I had to do some dodgy dealings to get mine unlocked.
But yes it will be bootloader locked whatever you do.

Dodgy dealings? There are many unlocking services online (on eBay especially) that will send an unlock code for a fee. Nothing dodgy about that.

I haven't got an eBay account sadly. I ended up going to a market trader and he did it for a fiver.

Thanks guys, I think I'll stump up the extra and get an unlocked one then! Even though it'll be £50 more :/
Got my c6906 from negri today but it was asking for unlock code the first time i start up the phone. I am planning to use it on ATT and the unlock counter shows i have 10 tries to get the phone unlock. I already emailed negri to get the code.
Does anyone know any other reliable places or website i can get the phone unlock? Really want to use the phone so please help if anyone with c6906 or z1. Tks!

Do not keep guessing the code. The unlock code is specific to your device, negri should provide it to you. Just be patient.
Kinda weird that they didnt email you one when they sent the phone and I thought they were selling the unlocked phones. Mine came locked from Bell, but the eBay seller sent me the unlock code via email before I got the phone.
Just called negri and they told me to wait until next Thursday. They are checking with whoever they got the phone from for the code. My counter shows i have 10 tries but i am not going to guess it and ended up with a dead lock phone. Kinda suck to have to wait that long

I bought my 6906 4 days ago and went to Sony store for some accessories. Sony rep advised me to unlock via http://unlock.canadagsm.ca/ as he did it with his own xperia z1. I wasnt sure what carrier its locked to since i bought it from kijiji.ca so I emailed them. The guy replied back saying "Just fill the form and say it's locked to Bell and we will take of the rest". 2 days later they sent me my unlock code.
Tired of waiting for negri to give me the code so i gave cellunlocker.net a try. Got my code in 2 days and unlocked the phone successfully.

Hello,I bought an Xperia Z online. The phone is sim unlocked but bootloader can't be unlocked.I believe the phone was bought originally from 3 UK as it's shown on boot.To whom do I need to talk so I can unlock it? Thanks
Sent from my C6603 using xda app-developers app
It's permanently locked. I've never heard of anybody that has got Sony to change a non-unlockable bootloader to an unlockable one. I'm not even sure the local service centres even have the facility to do so.
You can try contacting Sony directly, but be prepared to be disappointed.
