To Start off... This is for windows and Linux! I had a lot of trouble at first trying to root. But as soon as i stumbled upon this 1 click root and the correct adb drivers i rooted fast and easy. My kindle was running 8.4.3 for this. But several people have came to me saying it works with 8.4.6 os. So what u want is the normal usb cable and windows/linux. And download the two files at the bottom.
Before you begin, if you have Windows Vista or Windows 7 or 8, open a Command Prompt & type ‘ping 4.2.2.2‘ then press enter. If you get replies, carry on with the rest of the guide. If not, you’ll have to carry out this small fix first! Skip to the bottom where it says "Still not work? Then move onto the "How to?..."
How to?...
1. ENABLE ADB IN SETTINGS UNDER SECURITY
Step 1. Download all files provided in the post and keep kindle unplugged at all times
Step 2. To be safe uninstall any other drivers for the kindle installed on the operating system (Win.) And Reboot.
Step 3. Install the adb drivers provided in the .zip
Step 4. Unzip the bin4ry tool on ur desktop and run the .bat file for windows as admin/.sh for Linux.
Step 5. Keep kindle unplugged still... The menu u will be promoted with will ask you what is ur device type. Select normal.
Step 6. Once you selected normal and the command prompt will say plug in your device. Do it.
Step 7. It will say a bunch of stuff, once it stops spitting out lines, if your kindle isnt already. Unlock it.
Step 8. Hopefully u get a window on ur kindle asking to restore and enter ur credentials. JUST PRESS RESTORE AT THE BOTTOM.

Right click on My Computer/Computer (whichever you have) and choose Properties.
Go into System and this will open System properties. Once here, select ‘Advanced System Settings’.
Next choose ‘Environment Variables’ and under the ‘System Variables’ find ‘Path’.
Select ‘Path’ with your mouse and choose ‘edit’.
Scroll to the very end of the list in here. It’ll have various paths for different things, all separated by a semi-colon like this ‘;‘. Be careful not to change anything else here, simply paste in ‘;C:\Windows\System32‘. Note that there’s no space between ; and the C:\Windows\System32 and this statement isn’t case sensitive, it can be both upper and lowercase or a mix.
Click OK & repeat until you’ve closed System Properties.
Test by opening Command Prompt (Start > Run > cmd OK, Win-key + R > cmd OK, or however you prefer to get there) & ping 4.2.2.2 again. If you see replies, congratz, you’re all set!

Now that I'm rooted could you do a tutorial on how to add a 2nd bootloader plus TWRP using 8.4.3? It would be greatly appreciated by many of us beginners!

I'll get on it asap, but remember that I'm playing it by ear since I just got my kindle about a week ago. Right now I'm creating a tut on how to install the play store.

Unfortunately it's not working for me. My Kindle is on 8.4.3 and has ADB enabled.I've installed the ADB drivers and rebooted my Windows 7 64-bit PC. I've pinged the tablet and get a response. I run the batch file as admin and press (1). I get some messages including "connect your device". A demon gets succesfully started at 5037. But after that I see nothing... My kindle's screen is unlocked, btw.
Any ideas?

Delete the bin4ry folder. And unzip it again, run option 1 while unplugged. Then plug in your kindle.

What does this mean? The older root option?
I am in the exact same boat. I can ping the device, but when running runme.bat it just sticks at waiting for device.
I deleted and re-extracted the zip file. That did not help. I am going to go try other root options to see if I can figure out which one you did that worked.

I was able to use the instructions in the OP to root my KFHD 8.9 on 8.4.3. The adb drivers linked to in the OP were the problem for me. I had previously installed drivers that were a different size exe (9.183 MB) that I reverted to that allowed me to connect to the Fire through adb and run the tool from the OP to root.

8.4.6 Update..
Does anyone know if this root method will work for the 8.4.6 update that my Kindle just automatically upgraded to? I had it rooted before on 8.4.3 using this method.
Trying to decide if I risk it or wait till someone with a factory cable tests it first. Please let me know if it works successfully for you and I will update with my results if I get brave and try it myself...

Did you have OTA updates blocked on 8.4.3? If so, by what method? I'm just asking because I'm still nervous about leaving my wifi on after rooting 8.4.3 and using the method of OTA blocking which renames the otacerts file.

No I did not have OTA updates blocked and I always leave WiFi on, otherwise its a paperweight in my opinion. I hope this method will work for root with 8.4.6 but I think I will wait for someone with a factory cable to attempt first.

Ah, I agree about that and it's why I hate being uncertain if my OTA blocking works because I'd hate to be stuck with an update that finally breaks the rooting exploit or something of that sort. That said, however, from what I've read the 8.9" Fire HD doesn't need a factory cable to enter fastboot. No confirmation on my end of that, as I've yet to need to use fastboot and thus haven't tried it.
I do know, however, that KFFirstAide's method of rooting with the latest version of the software (downloaded from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888 ) worked flawlessly on 8.4.3 for me. And those who tried the older version on 8.4.3 didn't report any bricking or anything of that sort, simply that the process completed but did not successfully root. I would assume, but certainly not guarantee or suggest to know with any certainty, that it puts the risk of bricking in the event it can't root the firmware version down to a low percentage. It may be worth attempting. But I definitely see why you're worried about it; I'd be hesitant, as well.
Good luck, and I hope someone who's had experience with 8.4.6 can come along and offer you some solid answers. I'd definitely suggest blocking OTA updates when you regain root, though. With OTA blocked, you can still manually download any updates you want (preferably after seeing whether it's capable of being re-rooted) and install them via usb, whenever you wish.

I have what I believe is a Kindle Fire HD 2 ? I do own and have rooted and cyanogenMODed my kindle fire 1st
gen, 2nd gen and my kindle fire HD, this one I believe is the HD 2 running version 11.3.2.3.2_user_323001620.
I have been a member here for sometime and have learned a lot and I very well may have stumbled across
something a few minutes ago. From what I gather this version kindle has not yet been rooted or at least that I can
find any proof of ( my apologies if I am wrong ). I was just tinkering with it and downloaded a root app from here
named Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v35 I also downloaded and installed the Kindle Fire HD 8.9 ADB
drivers from here also and downloaded a file called pwn.zip too.... Anyway....
Under Windows 7 these are my procedures....
1. Extracted pwn.zip to the z2root folder
2. Right clicked RunMe.bat and chose run as administrator
3. Chose option 0
4. Then chose option 0 again.
5. Then connected the kindle to the USB cord
6. Hit Enter and allowed Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v35 run it's course following the onscreen instructions
and it seems as tho I am rooted.
Again, I apologize if I am posting to the wrong forum and I am also sorry I do not have all the steps for instructions...
to be honest...Im about to piss myself ... Sorry

PS!:.. I am still having a lot of issues getting twrp recovery etc...
I need to invest in a fastboot cable, I find no way to get this KF HD to boot into FB =(
I have rooted the KF 1st gen, 2nd gen and the hd1.. this one is only giving me fits trying to get to FB and a recovery.
As soon as I get a recovery on this beast I will be playing with some CyanogenMod or Hellfire Roms.... Im sure they can be used as is.

i've also tried option 2 and 4, and they actually got so far as to restart the kindle, however root has not been granted.
any help is greatly appreciated!

Try picking option 0 then option 1 and see what that does... none of the options have done anything other than those 2.
I just done a factory reset to try to retrace my steps and make it further..I am sure 4 eyes are better that 2,

hey there, glad to report that appears to have done the trick, however, i don't believe i ran the .bat as administrator as option 0 then 1 also give me "this path cannot be specified" etc etc errors...
anyhow, i opened the .bat once more as user, hit option 0, then 1... plugged in my kindle.... and i made it to a point in the process where i stalled / hung there for a bit, until i went into my kindle options, disabled, then re-enabled ADB interfacing.....at which point, the .bat script continued, and i rebooted.... happily, with root access / capabilities.
congrats to you for finding this man, and certainly my gratitude / thanks to you, i can now use my ps3 controller wirelessly through bluetooth.....
a question. how can i now disable auto kindle firmware updates so as to retain my root access?

They have a KFHD Soho 2013 not Tate. KFFA is not for the Soho. The link in my signature can help with this. Get ahold of the dev and ask for an updated firerooter.

Glad you're here to help. Like 6 weeks ago I attempted to return to stock. It was my understanding that I needed to downgrade twrp to flash the image (which I did easily . In the other thread it specified to wipe system first (REALLY wish I had thought that one through). Now I can't push ANYTHING to the SD card. No adb, no USB mtp.
I've tried updating drivers on 3 different computers, (windows 7, Windows 10, and yosemite) Tried unbreakable tool and kfhd restore tool.
All I can do is manually boot to twrp.
I realize there's probably more details needed but I'm strapped for time (on break) I was just ? to see your thread.
Any attempts to help will be profoundly appreciated! Thanks.

I've had time to think about it and I doubt hashcode would make a mistake like telling people to wipe system. And if he were mistaken there would be a LOT of people in my situation. So I believe what sets me apart is that my recovery is too old. The right drivers aren't present and I can't use adb as a result.
I CAN get this into Factbook both with a factory cable and with a regular one (the latter only works on Mac it seems). However, on Windows the restore tools both say Fastboot is not recognized command. I believe I tried flashing the updated twrp with Fastboot on mac but for some reason it didn't work.

The current recovery is TWRP v2.7.0.0
I provided all the info I can think of at the moment. It's been about a month since I tried anything so my memory is a bit fuzzy. If you need anything specific please let me know. Bascially all I want to do is push any rom (custom or stock to this). I have the second bootloader and twrp working. I think MAYBE a newer version of TWRP may solve the driver issue. But I know I tried flashing twrp through fastboot and it din't work. I believe it just hung with no error listed.
Thought I might be on to something. I went into device manager and noticed the option to install legacy drivers. Both android and kindle show up so I got excited but it was short llived... Both attempts yielded they got installed but may not work. Sure enough they didn't. ��
Updated when in twrp over USB I can see kindle and now 3 android composite add interface. But they have a yellow triangle on them.
If I try to connect over add it says list of attached devices but show nothing. I tried mounting system but that does nothing
Clicking on Android in device manager I get this device cannot starts code 10
I spent a few hours trying different things and this seems to be my best bet (or at least the next thing I try). Can't do it tonight though because the windows pc I have is running adb 15 second installer and I don't have everything I need to complete it. If you or anyone else knows an easier way please share. Otherwise I'll setup sdk tools when I have a chance. Hopefully some time tomorrow. I'd prefer to do it on my mac because this pc isnt the best and really slowed me down tonight.

I have NOOO idea how but I connected with mac. I swear to you I've tried connecting over adb before(MTP still didn't work btw). But I ran some basic commands with twrp mounted to SYSTEM, ran "adb devices" and it shows up. (I had tried SEVERAL variations of this before tonight)
Except instead of saying tate like it used to it had a string of letters/numbers then just said "recovery". Might be what it said before when in TWRP. I used to mostly use MTP when transferring files.
I was able to push the only amazon stockish files I could get 7.41 rooted+su from Hashcode. I also pushed updated TWRP and open apps for CM 12.1. Unfortunately adb push hung on that last one and then adb was gone. Couldn't connect. I bit the bullet and just flashed amazon and it worked. Just did this like 5 minutes ago so haven't tested root, recovery or anything else. I was intending on buying a kids case for this and letting my toddler son use it. We have prime and a lot of books i can access. So I might stay here but would like to get a newer version. Is there an easy way to get a later version of stock? I hate to give up root but he definitely doesn't need it and I've acquired several newer faster devices since I bought this a few years back.

With Win 8, 8.1 & 10, Disabling Driver Signature Enforcement is likely needed.

Open the charm bar and go into Settings and at the bottom click on Change PC Settings.
Go to the update and Recovery on left then Recovery
Advanced Startup > restart now
Choose the Troubleshoot option followed by Advanced options.
Choose Startup settings then on next screen click on ‘restart’.
Select option
Disable driver signature enforcement
Windows 8.1 will now reboot and you can go ahead and use the Kindle_Fire_HD_ADB_Drivers.zip

I signed up for free time and so far the only difference I see between 7.41 and a newer version would be inability to download prime titles. Of course this is my only amazon product running stock so I have nothing to compare it to. It's strange that the newest version on Hashcode's thread disappeared but older versions are still available. Usually it's the opposite.

Thanks. Think I did stumble upon that when I first thought about return to stock. But I'm not sure...
That page shows stock. I think the version I have, 7.4.1, is a modded version of stock. I also see recovery. Zip which is what I need to go full stock. But I don't know if flashing that in twrp will get me to stock.
After struggling just to push a file I don't want to take any chances. If there's a clear way of doing it I'm all in. I think this device will be eligible for the OS 5 update so that'd be my motivation to sacrifice root.
A little off topic--free time is pretty cool if you have prime but adding locally stored videos is a hassle (haven't been able to do it) I'm sure amazon did this deliberately but there must be a workaround.
I was able to download prime videos. Unlike on my android phone, they need to be added to the library first.

I've just bought a Fire Tablet on Amazon day with the intention of rooting it and installing CM, but I am a newbie and there's so much information on here it's kind of overwhelming, and most of it has a lot of "if this, then that, or if you want to use that, do this" type guides, which for someones who doesn't really know what all the different methods and options are is really confusing!
So can someone please tell me the step by step process for doing it?
From what I've read I think I have to downgrade to 5.1.2 of the OS as I can't root on 5.1.4? Is that correct?
So do I have to root before I do that? Or do I downgrade first and then root, and then install the CM?
If someone can list each of the steps I need to take to get it from a fresh new 5th Gen Fire 7 to having all the Amazon rubbish off and having it running CM, then I can look for the guides for each step!

Yeah, I read the same thing and I bought it on Prime day. When's the 5.14 tool going to come out? I know, beggars... I really think it's silly to have to downgrade and risk bricking it when normal root for those OS versions don't have such a concern.

I did the same thing, bought the tablet on prime day and was successfully able to root it and put the AOSP nexus rom
First things first make sure you have the 7-inch tablet for the following steps because apparently it only works with that specific model. Since this is my first post I can't post any links so sorry about that however, I have added the video title so that you can just google it and find the video.
Anything above fire os 5.1.2 ( that is 5.1.4, 5.1.3, 5.1.2.1) has to be downgraded to 5.1.2.
Also downgrading from 5.1.4 to 5.1.1 is going to give you a hard brick. I don't know how you didn't know that but it was clearly stated in the xda guide I was following
Basically you have to follow rootjunkys video and instead of using the file he uses in the video use the fire OS 5.1.2 file which is also available on his website.
Imortant: Do a factory reset before downgrading. I did not do that and the rooting process did not work.

After you have fire OS 5.1.2 follow the rooting process shown in another rootjunky video

Note: He shows how to do the whole process while using mac but it can be done on windows awell and the windows files are already present. Instead of using the .sh file and opening the terminal double click the .bat file and follow along.
You can use his SuperTool to put the play store app and fire flash app.
Note: For some reason fire flash was not working properly for me by using the SuperTool, so I just installed it from the google play store.
Now you should have rooted fire OS 5.1.2 along with superSU. Now with the fire flash app and you can download any rom that you want to flash. Follow the steps in the video for instructions

It's not a matter of someone getting off their keister and whipping up a "tool" (presumably you are talking about root) that works with FireOS 5.1.4 or whatever the latest version is. Like many manufactures Amazon actively discourages rooting devices and attempt to block known exploits. It's a cat and mouse game. We may see a "tool" soon, much further down the road or never. Be happy you can root the device at all and be thankful for the individuals who unselfishly share their time and talents with the community.

The problem was that the guide I was referred to for getting CM onto it already assumed it had been rooted, and when I started googling and looking on the different guides on rootjunky there were so many coming from different angles but nothing giving the clear start to end steps for what I wanted to do, for a newbie it was very confusing. Plus in the guide I was following (a rootjunky one) he had an older version of the OS and the toolkit had different files/folders to what are in it now, so I guess at that time there was no mentioned of 5.1.4 and not being able to go back.
After thinking I needed to downgrade the OS I found the one for unbrinking and downgrading and did that fine to 5.1.2, but then when I tried the superkit it still said it was too new, so I tried to downgrade further, which is when I bricked it.
There was no mention of it on the video..... other than a bloody great overlay in the corner, which must have been added later on, and probably because I was tearing my hair out and getting confused I didn't spot it. That's my excuse anyway!

- no need for a factory reset at any point; offers no benefit for what you are trying to accomplish.
- installation of SuperSU (replacing Kinguser and related Kingroot cruft) after rooting is highly recommended prior to using FlashFire or any other tool that messes with the system partition. The SuperTool can facilitate this otherwise ugly task.
- if you are struggling with RootJunky videos you should give serious consideration to the challenges of installing a custom rom. It doesn't get any easier going forward.

I managed to root my Nvidia Shield TV fine so I should be able to do it, I just needed to be clear of the full process from start to finish, and as I wasn't starting from the beginning of the process that made it more confusing. The rootjunky videos are great, but when someone is saying you can use this or that or do this or that it's putting choices and variables in to the mix so it's not a straighforward step by step, and when the kits and the webpages shown on the videos have changed since they were made, for someone trying to piece the info together it takes a bit more time.
Maybe I should point out that I didn't look on here initially when I started trying to do it, I basically saw the fire on offer mentioned on a forum I use and someone said yeah, it's easy to root and get CM on if, just user this video, with the link to a rootjunky YouTube video which didn't mention the prerequisite of already having downgraded the OS (why would it) so in hindsight I didn't start at the right place or have the best information.
After reading through some stuff on here (and that's over whelming for a first timer as there is so much stuff on here for many, many devices and platforms - even just finding the Amazon fire sub forum on an iPad wasn't easy!) I'm getting a better idea for attempt two.

OK, so making progress. I have downgraded the new one fine, it now has 5.1.2 of the Fire OS.
I've used rootjunkys supertool to root the device with Kingmaker, which then installed SuperSU, and I finally uninstalled Kingmaker/Purity.
So I now have a rooted Fire, which is great. I have also installed the Google Play store, disabled OTA updates and removed ads from the lock screen. But I don't want the Amazon OS on it (pretty fugly isn't it!), so the next step, flashing it with CM.
What guide would be best for a Fire with 5.1.2 on it? - Kingroot/Purify, not Kingmaker/Purity
- I can't think of a better suite of guides than the videos produced by RootJunky
- use FlashFire 0.51 to install (flash) the rom of your choice
- OP for Nexus rom has video link and and basic FlashFire guidance
- get over the minor variations in the language/tools used to support this device between the making of videos and the latest release.

2. Install FlashFire 0.51 from play store or use the SuperTool

Reinstall FlashFire 0.51 (here) on CM 12.1 then use it to flash the GAapps package. Agree with your selection: ARM/5.1/nano.

Is it possible to have the SD card to be used as combined storage? For example, my Shield TV lets me 'add' the SD card to the main storage so it sees it all as one instead of a second removable device, so can install apps on it, etc. If this possible with Cyanogenmod? (Not sure what you'd call that feature to search for it!) Thankfully the main reason I bought it was to help manage my music with MediaMonkey so I won't be installing lots on it, but if it is possible it would be useful.
Second, with regard to OS updates on CM, are they automated or do they need to be done manually (and, if so, with care?)

Short answer: 'yes'. There are various approaches to utilizing SD cards for app installation/storage each with pros, cons and compromises. I highly recommend using a tool that leverages 'symbolic links' which is by far the most reliable method. An example is Link2SD which you can find in the Play Store.
All custom roms for this device are updated manually via FlaahFire or TWRP (if available). Instructions can usually be found in the OP.

did you open up the file manager and install the flashfire.apk? I am on the same problem you had on your post #11, but my problem I ran into now is flash fire says "root access could not be acquired" otherwise this would be a easy to do.

Yes, I copied it over via USB and installed it from the file manager. Do you have root enabled in the developer settings, I enabled it for adb and apps.

Have one question is Cm only recovery program or is there a TWRP version for this ? I would think that lastest TWRP would work since its all android but have to ask .I like TWRP myself cause i have it on rooted tablets

You can not boot/install/use twrp on this device unless running FireOS 5.0.1 or lower. Nor can you rollback to any version below 5.1.2 without bricking the device. FlashFire is the tool of choice for installing roms and performing other maintenance tasks that are typically done in a custom recovery environment.
I have a kindle fire that used to belong to my brother and he had it rooted. I did a factory reset and upon registering the kindle it throws me into a language selection loop. I can still manage to get into apps, settings, etc.. if I click fast enough before the language selection pops up again. I'm assuming this is happening because it is rooted and I deleted files that were needed with the factory reset. I believe it's a 3rd gen kindle but I don't know how to be sure. Current version is 13.3.2.3.2_user_323001720 Build date Sunday, June 1, 2014. I prefer it to be unrooted for a fresh start but if it's easier to get past that error loop I'll take it. Can anyone help me with this please?

Sounds like you may have a 3rd gen HDX. You'll need to identify the exact model as recovery procedures differ among the various fire devices.
Bumping this to see if I can get any help on it. I have decided to try again after finding my tablet. The tablet is a Kindle Fire HDX 7 3rd gen. After researching for a while I found out my brother rooted it using SuperSU as there's an su file under system/xbin (my brother doesn't remember anything) but no SuperSU app installed due to the factory reset. I was able to solve the language selection loop error but now I'm stuck on what to do next. Some apps work some don't. I just want to be able to use newer apps/games. Would you guys recommend trying to unroot or can I update current root to something not stuck in a 2014 update?

Bumping this to see if I can get any help on it. I have decided to try again after finding my tablet. The tablet is a Kindle Fire HDX 7 3rd gen. After researching for a while I found out my brother rooted it using SuperSU as there's an su file under system/xbin (my brother doesn't remember anything) but no SuperSU app installed due to the factory reset. I was able to solve the language selection loop error but now I'm stuck on what to do next. Some apps work some don't. I just want to be able to use newer apps/games. Would you guys recommend trying to unroot or can I update current root to something not stuck in a 2014 update?

I would suggest go to amazon and download the full update. Also there is a hdx thread that might be more relevant. I do not have one of these devices and this thread is for the fire 7. See the next post...

Reloading FireOS (any build) is not an option on unrooted HDX device. Also rather dangerous without an understanding of compatible versions; a difficult to correct brick can easily result. Re-ask your question in the HDX help thread; someone (most likely me) will respond. You'll need to do a fair bit of work to restore that device including unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom ROM. Not for the faint of heart.
