Hello fellow Xperia users,
I have unlocked the bootloader, flashed advanced kernel to gain root.
Now my question is:
- If I ever needed to do a factory reset, would this cause a bootloop?
- If not, would it be smart to defrost any frozen apps before doing this reset?
(I remember on my Xperia Play it did not mather, but I ask anyway.)
- I have backed up system and data from the custom recovery.
Should I restore this when needed instead of using factory reset?
(It is all not needed now, but I rather am prepaired.) Any advise is welcome.
PS: Can anyone tell me or the Xperia Z fits in the MOGA controller?
PSS: Does anyone know or it is possible to make a shortcut to active services?
(Was possible on Xperia Play, but I can not seem to find how to on Xperia Z.)
Kind regards, Stefan.

As the JB update for Xperia T already came, I inevitably would like to upgrade as well. Problem is, I have unlocked my bootloader, which from what I heard, rendered it impossible to receive OTA updates. I have a bunch of apps (and game save data) that I don't want to lose/re-install. Note: my device is an LT30p, originated from Hong Kong and unlocked.
So what is the best course of action in my case?
1. I thought about relocking bootloader, but will anything be lost during the process? Will I be able to receive updates afterward?
2. Is it true that unlocking bootloader will render it impossible to receive OTA updates?
3. I tried manually refreshing system update, but nothing so far. It might be possible that the update has yet to reach my region, but is it possible that the unlocked bootloader could have something to do with it?
4. Is backing up my apps (using PC companion), then reflashing to JB (with flashtool), and restoring data afterward a viable option?
Rooting my current firmware and backup my app data using apps requiring root permission seems to be the safest route, but that's too much of a hassle.
In any case, I would like to hear your ideas on my situation. Thanks in advance.
You can use Sony's backup and restore app. It resides on the phone itself, and just got safeguarding copy the backup from your internal sdcard to your pc

Thanks, I was not aware of the app.
The backup is interchangable with the ones created by PC Companion, I presume?
I really don't know.. Sorry

I bought my Xperia SP a few days ago, and it has stock Android 4.1.2 installed. I have a few queries to its long-time owners:
I want to backup the ROM, in case I am fooling around and brick it. Is there a way to backup the ROM (or the TA partition, right?) without rooting the phone? I want to try the vanilla experience for a while. If not, what's the safe way to root without messing up the TA partition and losing the unique keys?
Also should I upgrade the ROM? Many people have complained about the phone getting slow after upgrading. Also, I read, in newer versions it becomes impossible to root without unlocking the bootloader, which will result in loss of DRM keys, removing some features.
Oh and some app recommendations would be nice too.
Is that McAfee app that comes preinstalled necessary?
Anyone tried encryption? Does it affect performance by a big factor?
I'm thinking of buying a transparent TPU case for the phone. Anyone knows where I can get one online?
Any other advice to a new owner is welcome too.
Hello everyone
I have now finally been able to root my beautiful Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. The bootloader is still locked. I did downgrade the Firmware in order to root the phone. Afterwards I made a backup of the DRM Keys via TA Backup. Additionally I updated the Firmware to 23.0.1.A.5.77. As the bootloader is still locked I did not install any kind of custom ROM and I am yet not planning to do so. The Sony ROM will probably do a good job. (My old phone is a Sony Xperia P which is now running with Root Sony's ROM since 3 years at least)
I am running on KitKat 4.4 and also not planning to change. I have a 64GB SD card in my phone as well.
Now my question:
Can I still use the encryption function or will this interfere or make problems because I have root (Bootloop)?
I am not planning to encrypt the SD card because I do not need encryption on the SD card but encryption for the Android System would be nice.
Thanks for your help guys :good:
Best wishes,

No idea guys? Did no one ever try this before?

I'd like to know this as well.
I tried this today. Left it encrypting and when I came back it said encryption had been interrupted and it then did a factory reset, after which I was unable to enter custom recovery.. As I had chosen to encrypt the SD I was left with an empty SD card too.
Somehow I kept root so I was able to install XZDualRecovery again and then restore from nandroid backup.
There's a thread on androidforums where Samsung owners have reported success with temporarily disabling SuperSU while running the encryption.

Anyone tried this method or found another way to achieve root + encryption? It's the only thing keeping me from rooting again.
Hi all!
Sadly i forgot the pattern lock, i am on 6.0.1 (latest) with locked bootloader. Through Google it tells me that the screen "is already locked, so you don't need..." and so on.
Of course i don't want to loose any data, otherwise the solution were easy of course.
My question is: Is it possible to flash a minimal amount of packets of an older Android (i.e. the 4.4.4) to unlock through the account in the lock screen? The older locking app can do this...
Of course i need it only to disable locking feature, then i would flash back the right version of each one.
Any help really appreciated,
GM
P.S. I found also a procedure on a Z1 that unlocks the bootloader without wiping data... In that way i can flash a system partition without screenlocking app. Otherwise of course i have sign problems... But no similar procedure are available on z3 Compact, right?
Hello,
Does anyone know an understandable manual to root Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact, please?
I have had Xperia XZ1 Compact for several years and I am still struggling with Update system operation (Android 8) which I simply do not want to update. I managed to avoid the pending update icon, wiped memory, checked "Don't update operation system", but recently it doesn't help.
I decided to deactivate the system file 'Update [...] "but to see it, I have to root this smartphone. Unfortunately, I can't find any effective method anywhere - the app" One Clic Root "," King Root "etc. does not help.
There is here a very incomprehensible tutorial for me here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-how-to-root-xperia-xz1-compact.3712385/, which also causes the camera to stop working.
Regards and I am counting on help.
Did you check out this thread?
It has information and a guide on how to obtain a temporary root, back up your DRM keys, and then bootloader unlock + restore keys.
That said, the camera should work for stock Pie, and most custom roms (if you want anything later) will include the DRM fix.
One Click Root and King Root always seemed like scams to me. You can just unlock normally with a key from Sony.
Many thanks, a little complicated but in details. I will try and let know.
Hi guys, is it possible to flash the rooted Android 8? I know how to flash including downgrading - it takes 30 sec., so flashing the rooted OS would be easiest way.
Is it possible? If so ewhere to find a ready (prepared) rooted OS?
