Introduction
So, basically I want people to suggest me things to review for my YouTube channel which can be found here
If you want to know what you can suggest me to review, please see the 'Content' section below. I want to really help anyone who's looking for a new ROM or theme or something like that and I'm sure many people will have the same questions.
Content
I'm accepting reviewing the following (for the Nexus 7 as that's the only good rooted device I have):
Free Apps
Free Games
New ROMS
Themes
Widgets
Mods
I will not be doing seperate kernels, sorry!
I look forward to your suggestions!

Feedback
I've noticed that all my videos have a fair amount of dislikes and I just want to know what people would like me to include in the videos and how I can make them better. I take all advice on board and I try and incorporate as much as I can!
Please give me honest feedback since unfortunately I'm not telepathic! :good:
With apps I'd say GMD gesture control, I'm currently using the free version and it's real nice. Being able to control the home screen, quick app menus, app switching, even turning off the screen with gestures is very comfortable.
Development wise, NxtGen ROM and the InterSect kernel have given me a huge improvement on battery life and performance, worth taking a look IMO.
I hope this helps

Hey, I've decided I won't be doing kernels after I changed my mind, sorry, however I'll look at Carbon ROM ASAP - but you might notice I've got a bit of a waiting list :silly:
I've now uploaded 3 videos - NxtGen ROM v2.2, GMD Gesture Control Lite and Light Grid.
I still can't post links, but just search "HMPenguinify" on YouTube and you'll find my channel.

Saw all 3, very nice!! Just knowing, will you do an overview and an in-depth review or just an overview? (because it seems that you just show the thing without focusing much on it.)
Also sometimes the device is off the camera .

Yeah I realised the device was sometimes off camera but that's because it was the first time I was recording a device and with the tripod in the way it's a bit awkward. Well I just need to know what people would like me to go over in the review because I don't know what else there is to see in a custom ROM than theme and performance options.

Hey guys I've seen that all my videos have either an equal amount of dislikes to likes or more dislikes and less likes.
I just wanted to know what people want me to include in the videos to make them better for everyone.
I subscribed, liked all videos, but PLEASE go more into depth, 7-10 minutes per video (or 5 if it's like light grid.)

Is the ROM good? Yes. Top quality. Is it good on the Nexus 7? I'm not sure because it's STILL downloading (started the download at 10:00AM and it's currently at 75% done). I've used his ROMs (Peter Alfonso) on previous phones and they've all been excellent. I have no doubt that this one will also be great.

It should take you to the Nexus 7 (Grouper) download section on Pete's site. [http://download.peteralfonso.com/grouper/rom].
If anyone finishes, please Mirror! I have 19 hours left :/
OK I'm using faster downloads app and I have about 10kb a second so will take awhile
Finally finished downloading. I made a torrent. Here's the link: BB for Nexus 7. Let me know if there are any problems. File size should be approx. 223MB.
EDIT #2: Here's a direct download: BB For Nexus 7
EDIT: Seeding at the moment. This is my first time making a torrent.
Thanks for the link. Downloading now.

Peter Alfonso is the dev who makes BuglessBeast. His ROMs are AOSP, very lite, and have little to no bugs whatsoever (hence the name). It's also very speedy and adds in a few customizations without going overboard. I've used his ROMs for a while now and I have yet to encounter any problems. Give it a try!

Hello, this is just a question, I'm not bashing/hating here. I see many people running CM10.1, and the main article in the news on Android portals across the internet is the new update - CM10.1.1
I have a ROM based on CM10.1 on my Nexus S and honestly I see no much difference in comparison with the stock one I got on my N7. So, what is in your opinion, the best reason to get CM10.1.1?
Cause all the cool kids are doing it!!

-> Everything is so nicely integrated including superuser. It's stock, but improved with all the tweaks and apps you'd usually flash or install yourself. Plus there is the option to update OTA.
OP needs to read up on things instead of asking. There are many resources, guides and videos out there.

The lack of options compared to AOKP keeps me away. Tablet mode and Nav/status bar transparencies are essential on the N7.
CM is more of a stockish feel with the latest security fixes and a few limited additional options and theme support.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I agree with the above. CM just does not offer enough options compared to aokp to sway me over. At the same time, high memory and high graphic games always work better for me on stock. Ergo, im a multirom junkie. Best of all worlds with a simple reboot.

I just updated OTA for the first time today, worked like a charm.
The OTG automount is worth couple of bucks by itself. Also, the easy to use screen cap is da coolest.
I be way happy with CM on my N7.

Exactly. It's enhanced stock Android, but more importantly it's enhanced stock Android with the support, wide compatibility, and "whole-ness" of stock. I've convinced many a friend running TouchWiz, Sense, and even stock Android to switch to CM or a CM-based ROM.

Being that it's a smaller tablet, I don't agree that tablet mode is totally necessary. Is it nice to have? Definitely. I also wouldn't call transparencies "essential" in any sense.

The lack of either isn't a device killer, but those are 2 really nice features that I require. After running both, you wonder why they aren't stock in the first place. And I'd say that BECAUSE of the smaller tablet (7") it is EVEN MORE important to save desktop space.
Of course you could also use Extended Desktop w/ PIE controls, but the only PIE I like is Blackberry Cobbler.
Then there are people like me, I dont care CM or AOKP & what not...
Just need: speed + 110% smoothness without a stutter on all non gaming tasks + amazing batt life + USB Audio DAC support...
Also, still waiting for bit-perfect and hardware direct mode for USB Audio / DAC from kernel and music playback app developers... which probably will never come. Something like ASIO/WASAPI? Ring a bell? Guess not...
Audiophile 'minority'...meh.
Yep, people like me.

In all fairness (and much to my surprise), the Nexus 7 is the most challenging device to find organized, consolidated and relevant info for. Those of us whom count this as our first Nexus device have always been preached upon the virtue of stock/AOSP/CM vs (insert OEM UI) as though the three are synonymous, with CM being the vehicle that brings stock to, again, (insert OEM UI) devices. Even the Sprint-variant galaxy sII threads contain more up-to-date FAQ/tutorial stickies.
Maybe do a better job of consolidating "out there" before being "that" guy who has nothing to contribute beyond a condescending one-liner?
To the OP, the official CM website does an ok job at explaining their 'official' releases, but not a whole lot about how the experience differs from 'official' Vanilla/Nexus/Play Edition releases.
Also, Linaro --who works with literally every company not named Nvidia on source development-- seems to be a BFD to tegra3...

I always thought a forum was place where people could come and get help, or opinions from fellow members.
If the OP is asking for your opinion, then it's a possibility he/she values what you have to say, rather than blogs that have been written by others.

OP, it's a totally legit question, glad you asked. Because you asked, I read this thread and learned something. Perhaps the question has been asked too many times, but whatevs....no electrons or photons were harmed in the making of this thread. Frankly, you're either part of the solution or part of the problem, my vote says this thread is mostly part of the solution. I'm just in the process of deciding what I will do on my N7 after I unlock the bootloader and root it, now I have to search/understand the process of dual booting so I can try AOKP while enjoying stock, which I very much do (glad I waited for a 32). It also reinforced my desire to put CM back on my GSII.

Spoonfeeding huh? As somebody said already, this forum is a place to go ask questions and to help get a better understanding of what your tablet/phone is capable of.
To my knowledge there is nothing wrong w/ that as I have been doing this since '06 and continue to learn something new every time I read these forums. Cm 10.1 is a great rom w stock options, with the flexibility of giving you some customization. Surely give it a whirl

I feel like the device is much snappier. I heard battery is supposed to be better with it as well but I can't confirm. The xda app was never the best , now it is almost fluid o.o. or at least noticeably better. What do you have to say ?
i was told to add this:
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/1qbko3/art_broken_apps/
edit: I would like to add that the apps i notice this most is for instance, when i use hangouts and i'd right ALOOOOOOOT with someone and then scroll up at a fast rate, it would stutter. Now, this stutter is nearly gone.
XDA - xda app is one of the most noticeable, stutter has been reduced by such a large margin that you'd have to try it yourself to believe it.
G+ would have the occasional hickup when scrolling through news posts. Next stop would be the play store, it used to stutter a lot as well, now it's become a lot better. Just for the hell of it i compared it to my sister's note 2 and the difference is there.
I doubt this is a placebo effect, i'm even considering to make a video as proof with dalvik on and off for the hell of it.

Well, it's kind of obvious, if you want the best experience for now you're going to want to go with the official 4.4, since the developers need their time to work their magic.
I have no crashes, i'm using ART so far cause i could care less about what's app. I'll report in about battery life observations once i've at least had this thing running for a whole day.
Feels really smooth so far; don't use any apps that crash(thankfully) on ART. Hard to tell with the battery as I came off a custom kernel that was picked for low power usage. Like with any new firmware, it usually takes a few days of my phone running before I can really judge things. Got to give all the apps running a little time to muck things up to get a solid feel for real world performance; but I'm hopeful from what the past few hours performance/battery wise.

It's not worth the hassle in my opinion. I couldn't notice any tangible difference, performance-wise. I tried it on SlimKat, though. I may probably give it a second try now on stock but the whole idea of having non-working apps like Whatsapp and TiBu just takes the appealing away for now.
Could this just an elaborate hoax to test the placebo effect of Android optimization? I don't understand the true potential if it.

Guys, even after new touchwiz. S5 animations seems slow.. yet the device is super fast.. so my tips would just help you! Thanks to look into it
1. Go to settings>developer options(if not present go to about phone and tap the build no. 5 times)> transition animation scale and shift the value to (0.5 or 0)
Do it for windows animation scale
And animator duration scale too!
2. Disable s-voice from Galaxy s5 it would make u go to homescreen super fast..
To do that double click your home button.. register s-voice go to menu(by pressing multitasking button for 3 seconds and then untick disable s-voice open via home key..
3. You can also use a custom launcher if you don't want touchwiz!
4. If rooted then try cross breeder!
P.s. > I will update it with more things.
5. If you're rooted and have tons of apps, then install greenify app from playstore and hibernate your apps.. this way you can improve battery life and functionality
6. Do a factory reset, which may solve your problem.
Hit Thanks if I helped!

The truth is that people don't like TW animations, but they don't understand the difference between lag and slow animation. So they complain but the excuse is ridiculous.

How about this novel idea....if you don't like Touchwiz and/or you think this phone lags, then simply don't buy it or return it and leave us happy owners alone.

I am actually using ADW at the moment though because I saw there was an update since I'd last installed it on another device ages ago and fancied road testing any changes - I'm loving the 'Wall' animation on the app drawer, and people who've had a go on my phone have commented on how slick it looks

AccuWeather, SHealth and SPlanner widgets work only on TW, no others launcher cannot...

Installing another weather app (or HD widgets or similar) and installing a calendar widget from the play store will fix 2 of those 3.
For the other one, I just put a shortcut to the app on my home screen and go into S health that way.
Each to their own though.
S - voice can be disabled completely using the uninstall/disable apps option.

I wouldn't recommend crossbreeder or any of such scripts on our phone.
It won't make any difference and most likely cause higher battery consumption.

when in gallery, you can pinch-to-zoom in/out to have like a 100 pics at one time appear instead of the usual 4x5 grid

Hi thanks and I might try to put stock wiz back as a option but I'm waiting for the updated ROM that mine is based on
Also thanks I'm aware the right speaker is broken now that the creator doesn't know if that problem will be fixed but again thanks for the info
Hi, dsilx!
I have installed this ROM a couple of days ago and, I have to tell you, it was the best I've tried since I started to change it. I didn't tried to use the internet and performance booster, but I'll give you my impressions about those features as soon as possible. Nevertheless, these are the points that I'm able to speak a little bit by now:
(Very) Nice Points:
-Speed (transitions are very fast and not jittering)
-Usability flow (very very smooth indeed)
-Battery usage (surprisingly economic)
Points to improve:
-Right Speaker not working (as you may already know). (But since we may encounter this issue in most of ROM's available, I guess it's not that important, even because the sound works right using my earphones)
- Sometimes, the wallpaper is show somehow disregulated, righter or lefter from the position that I've choosen before.
There's another fact important for me.. This ROM have revived my TAB 3, since it lost the efs ( I still don't know how) and recovered only by NEON CUBE ( I don't know why either), what I haven't suceed with the lasts I've tried before.
In a comparison, It's still a great ROM at the end of the day...=D
So, thank you very much for your nice job and be sure you can count on me for the tests you may need in the future!!
Peace!
Gustavo

Hi now thanks for gratitude and niceness now one thing I have to ask keep in mind I'm just a kid but I didn't understand the last part about efs etc. If u could can u plse explain its more kid friendly haha but thanks for the info
Hahahahaha....
Relax, bro, I think I didn't express myself quite clear. Pardon me for that....lol
Two months ago, I was trying another ROM and suddenly Tab begin to don't accept any ROM instalation, showing the message "Failed to mount /efs", or something like that. Then, as a lot of things need my attention at the university and my job as well, I haven't had time enought to research properly in order to directly fix this issue.
I just keep trying to put some ROM's during the rare free time I've had, always regardind the correct version (T210), but with no success (the same message occured).
But this time, with your ROM, it has simply worked and I started to scream like a little girl and run around my house, jumping and singing...lol...besides this a little bit thick lying part, I was very happy for my Tab coming back to life again, this time with a performance I've never had....=)
