So I followed this guide for installing CM 10.1 on my Nexus One... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804571
I got to the part where I put the custom ROM on my SD card and then got stuck at installing blackrose.
So if I reboot my phone it won't boot into anything given that I did a full wipe as per this guide: http://checkrom.com/threads/full-wipe-the-correct-way.432/
and it doesn't really say what state my phone should be in... recovery? fastboot? booted into android? I tried all methods except the latter since i can't boot into it.
I get stuck at "waiting for device."
I'm fine with doing the custom method but I have no idea what this means:
Apply custom BlackRose
*.If you use BlackRose installer method, no need to read
Apply
1.fastboot flash hboot [CUSTOM BLACKROSE BINARY]
2.fastboot reboot-bootloader
If you will change partition layout
1.fastboot flash hboot [CUSTOM BLACKROSE BINARY]
2.fastboot reboot-bootloader
3.fastboot erase cache
4.fastboot oem brcmd brec
5.full wipe
6.update rom
7.reboot
What is "CUSTOM BLACKROSE BINARY"? and how do I install blackrose manually and resize partitions. (Unless you can tell me how to make blackrose.exe work)
Thanks in advance!

From what I understand from your post, you formatted and wiped your phone before installing black rose is it? If so, I guess you can't install black rose without a ROM installed. Copy a cm 7.2 zip onto your sdard, flash it on and install black rose when booted into android.
Also, ensure that adb and fast boot drivers and correctly installed for your n1.
Once black rose is installed, run black rose from your system (when your phone is connected and booted into android) to resize the hboot partition. Ensure android debugging option is checked as well.

I did wipe and format before installing BlackRose because that's what the guide said, however, that not working and my phone being useless already lead me to installing CM 7.2... now it's a working phone. I booted into android (CM 7.2) and started up BlackRose.exe but, it's still not working. How do I check if adb and fastboot drivers are installed correctly? I already have the sdk with the "Google USB driver" from the sdk installed. Android debugging was already enabled as well.
Do I need to mount the SD card when running BlackRose?
Thanks.
Well, I reinstalled the Android SDK which indicated the driver wasn't installed properly. I reinstalled the driver and everything worked like a charm! Thank you!
You're welcome. Have fun with JB

I just want to start off saying that i am very noobish at this because i just got my nexus one yesterday, and it was pre-rooted because the guy i bought it off of had already rooted it. It's running Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3.
Today, i wanted to learn how to flash new roms onto my phone because i wanted the ice cream sandich rom. So i tried to flash to meDROID ICS 4.0.3 CM9 v6. The pre-requisites were that i needed to have blackrose hboot, with the partition resized.
So i downloaded the hboot files and set up adb and downloaded the blackrose files as well. First i used BREditor and resized my partition accordingly (220,16,200). Then i used BlackRose.exe to flash BlackRose onto my phone...i practically did everything the tutorial video told me to. At the end i presses "Wipe All". then the cmd closed and my phone was in bootloader. I downloaded the ICS 4.0.3 CM9 v6 files, and put them into my sd card and went into recovery and installed zip from sd card. While installing, it gave me an offset which i dont clearly remember, and then it completed the installation. I rebooted the system and now it keeps rebooting into recovering mode...and i don't know what to do.
I think i'm doing the BlackRose part properly, but i think i'm not partioning it properly. If you could please provide some steps to partition it and use cmd/adb to command my phone to partition. It would be a great help.
I know this post is redundant as many others have posted, but i honestly don't understand it. Any help would be of great value.
Thank you.
Hi. No worries. If you are getting a reboot loop, you probably need to rewipe everything again. I wiped at least 3 times.
The other thing is, I also partitioned my sd card t ext3. That might also be an issue for you as well if you did not do it. Not sure though as I did not try the install without the repartitioning. I also did not use the BReditor as I just flashed the correct blackrose file via fastboot. But the BReditor seemed pretty straight forward.
To re-partition you need to use 4ext or amon ra. I used 4ext, very nice program.
To look if blackrose is installed:
1. Go into bootloader
2. In the first line on top stands "*Blackrose-Made by Lecahe1...."
3. In the second line stands "data-220/16/200"
Okay, let me explain what's happening:
1. Resize Partition (using BREDITOR)
2. Open up BlackRose.exe and follow the instructions, and phone goes into bootloader.
3. Flash the hboot.zip that was provided in the BlackRose official thread.
4. Phone installs the hboot and boots normally into my CyanogenMod 7.0.3.
5. I go back into bootloader, and I don't think anything is installed.
This is what i see in bootlader:
NexusOne PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.35.0017
MICROP-0b15
TOUCH PANEL-SYNTH0102

So where am i going wrong?
Did you install a recovery before you started this endeavor? Like amon ra, or 4ext?

I already had Cyanogen Mod 7.0.3. I went into clockword mod and it flashed the last clockwork mod recovery for me.
the problem is you must first install blackrose and then resize partition.
1. connect usb (with usb debugging on)
2. start blackrose.exe and install blackrose
3. and then resize partition
clockworkmod is ok, I also installed blackrose with clockworkmod
and why flash you back to hboot.zip? That's only when you want back to stock hboot...

How would i resize partition after i install BlackRose because my phone would go into bootloader. To resize, i would have to use fastboot commands, and i'm not very familiar with those.
there's a very good video how to resize partition:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_D3shjrNq8&feature=youtu.be
I've followed that video exactly, so many times..but i can never get it because it doesn't change anything...
The version of blackrose I flashed I attached to this reply. I flashed it via fastboot, not difficult. Once you flash it, go back into recovery and resize partition. I don't know about CWM, but 4ext and Amon ra allow you to partition your sd card inside recovery, that is what he is telling you to do.
And after you repartition, you can then flash your rom via recovery.
I think you forget, that on this video he had already blackrose installed!
so you must first install blackrose and then the video.
Okay, so you can partition your SD card in clockwork mod. It gives me Ext Sizes of 128M, 256M, 512M, 1024M, 2048M, 4096M. Which one should i choose?

OHH! so first i install the stock BlackRose, and then when partitioning, i must do all that process just to partition the drive! okay, i'll try that. Then i must wipe 3 times and install the rom? Hopefully this works. I'll get back at ya in 5 minutes
Okay, so i installed BlackRose.exe and then it went into bootloader. Do i have to reboot normally and go into my phone so that usb debugging is on, and then use BREditior/BlackRose to partition?
^ nope, no luck. Tried doing that too. Because once i install BlackRose.exe.. my phone goes into bootloader, and after that i can not use BlackRose.exe to partition my phone because it does detect as an adb device...
Then reboot and connect again with usb debugging on.
Yup, did that too and nothing happens. Still says this in bootloader:

P.S I have a question. The first time we try installing BlackRose. Should i press Advanced Install -> Stock BlackRose -> Have not partioned OR should i just press Install, rather than advanced install.
just press install please.
advanced is only when you already have installed blackrose
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I got it working! WOOOT! I love you all. Thanks to XDA Developers for providing this helpful community! Thank you so much Ruud!
With this new ROM, is there any wifi instability? because i keep losing my wifi connection D:
Glad you got it working! I have had no instability of any kind. Generally in the past on other roms when I have had problems like that it has been because I did not wipe enough.
What radio firmware do you have? You should have at least 5.08. If not, I would imagine you would have some instability.
Hi, after i have rooted my Nexus One and installed blackrose with new partition layout scheme, i received first the android with the exclamation point. So I pullend the plug, removed the battery and restarted the device. Now my mobile hangs on the 4 colour X. I can go into fastboot Mode and my pc recognizes it if i do fastboot USB, but I don't know any commands and don't know where to put the folders and which folders to help my phone to get the Old partition Layout again or just to Boot up into androids. Tanks for any help and suggestions
i gotta run

Hi. Not sure what ROM you are installing. Unless you are installing an Ice Cream Sandwich based ROM you don't need blackrose, so you need to do as rugmankc said and flash stock hboot. If you are trying to flash blackrose to install an ICS based rom, then you need to understand what you are doing first. Read read and read.
We can help you for the most part, but if you don't understand what you are doing, then what we tell you won't help much. Your phone is alright, all you need to do is reinstall the stock hboot to get it to boot correctly.
do you still have a recovery I assume Amon_RA
ie--from fastboot screen can you go to bootloader and then boot into recovery
Cheers for the help, it was much appreciated. I have fixed the problem myself. After I ve rooted and changed the partition layout there was not a recovery mod on the phone and I think it could not apply the older boot and system img with the new partition. I had to get into fastboot mode and install with the fastboot commands a recovery mod and boot and system image. Now it works with Medroid ICM
Glad you got it,
I lost my recovery twice with BR and ICS. That is why I asked. Same symptons.
Hi Guys,
My heads sorta spinning from information overload so I'm hoping one of you guys can help me. I have a Incredible S and I used this guide to downgrade my HBOOT and get my S-OFF using revolutionary and flash clockwork, which I did successfully. I then decided to install this ROM which requires Blackrose. So I installed blackrose beta sucessfully overwriting the revolutionary HBOOT. This is where it all starts to go wrong. I then set about doing a full wipe and tried to install the ROM using Clockwork and the installation completed sucessfully. But when I try to boot up my phone I get stuck at the HTC quietly brilliant screen. I also restored a backup I took with Clockwork with the same results; stuck at the boot screen. I tried following the steps in the thread of the ROM (listed below) with no avail.
Here are some steps you can try if the ROM hangs on the HTC splash screen
1. Download the file lib.zip from here: http://bit.ly/PwK4BH (MD5 SUM: 83dd68b32d39c994b3069d8813b3c3ea)
2. Unzip the lib.img and place it on your PC where you have fastboot.exe installed.
3. Boot into FASTBOOT USB mode and then enter the following command:
fastboot flash lib lib.img
4. Wipe Data/System Reset.
5. Wipe Dalvik Cache.
6. Then reinstall vivo_signed_WWE_4.10.405.1_ICS_SENSE36_8.zip
Do any of you guys have any suggestions or know whats wrong? Even if I can get back to the latest stock ROM while preserving my root I would be happy.
Thanks Guys!!!
BTW i would have posted in the rom thread on I dont have enough posts :crying:
No need blackrose on this rom. Just flash and install rom if you S-On flash boot.img manual via adb flash.
Before, i ve used that rom & back to my prev rom like Stock and Nik Rom.

What version of HBOOT does your phone now show?
Did the flashing of thr lib.img in FASTBOOT USB mode show any errors?
What is the exact file name of the vivo_signed_WWE_4.10.405.1_ICS_SENSE36 rom?
Which version of ClockworkMod are you using?
Things have went from bad to worse. I uninstalled blackrose now I'm back to revolutionary hboot 1.13.0000. But now I cannot boot at all or even get to the white htc screen. I am stuck in bootloader and have lost recovery. Thereby my phone will not charge enough to accept a RRU. I tried to reflash recovery by fastboot but I keep getting a Remote:signature verify fail error Have I bricked my phone? :crying::crying::crying:

The only option you have at this point is to flash an official PG32IMG.zip file extracted from a RUU and copy it to your SD card. Then when you boot into bootloader it will find the file, flash it and that should get you going.
It sound like you need to use the 2.30.405.1 RUU from here:

DUDE! This is no lie. You are a legend!!! That worked. I had myself prepared for buying a new phone!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS SO MUCH
Good morning,
I've 'inherited' an Incredible S where an attempt to try a custom ROM has gone wrong. The handset has ARHD 6 ROM installed in it which never gets past the white HTC bootscreen, probably because it hasn't had the BlackRose bootloader installed. Obviously there is no Nandroid to make life easy.
It's on HBoot 2.02, S-on, and the bootloader is unlocked with 4Ext installed.
Quick question: is there a ROM I can install on bootloader 2.2 via 4Ext that will enable the phone to be used, e.g. Virtuous Quattro?
Longer question: Can anybody point me in the direction of a good method to downgrade the bootloader, bearing in mind I can't boot to the ROM. I do seem to have fastboot access and don't mind command line work, I just can't see the best combination of bootloader/ROM that isn't on a dead link.
Alternatively an RUU suitable for the bootloader would be good, but for some reason the list on HTCDev.com doesn't seem to be filtering properly for me on Opera or Iron.
Thanks in advance,
RH

Nice one, thanks. I've downloaded the ROM from http://get.cm/get/2KU and will flash from 4Ext recovery.
The bootloader in in that same zip file, I'll flash as follows:
At ADB prompt:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot, ROM should load up fine. I spotted the downgrade guide yeterday and it looks very good. I'll give it a shot if CM isn't suitable.
Again, thanks very much.
Time for 2 small questions? How long does it take to flash the boot.img, 10 seconds? 5 minutes? Why does the boot image have to be flashed manually?
Cheers!

boot.img flashing should take >1s or around that at least...
And the boot.img has to be flashed manually only if you are S-ON. S-ON doesn't give you full clearance to some particular partition that I forget. S-OFF will so when you achieve S-OFF, you will no longer need to flash the boot.img manually

OK, same as my HOX then. Anyway, I've followed your instructions.
Hm, ROM installed and now trying to flash boot.img (from the rom zip).
Fastboot devices shows one device.
Command line states "sending boot (2182 kb)..." but hasn't changed for over 3 minutes. Handset says Fastboot USB and is unresponsive (as expected) at this moment.
I'll leave it until it errors.
RH
Edit: 30minutes later i pulled the usb cable.
"FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))"
Handset is in the same state, i.e.fastboot/hboot and recovery are fine, but ROM doesn't boot and handset stalls at white screen with green HTC letters.
Any ideas why I can't flash the boot.img?
Success! After reinstalling the the drivers and moving the USB cable to another port, the boot.img was successfully pushed, and booted into CM.
I'll now go for downgrading!
thanks for the help.

Hi
I have a HTC one m7 which went in Boot loop just like that. It was working perfectly some time back., just rebooted and won.t me back now. I had the latest stock OS 4.4 with sense 6 developer edition on it with no tamperig.
I tried many time wipe cache and factory reset. Nothing helped. Finally someone here suggested i do a unlock bootloader -> custom recovery -> custom rom -> s-off -> Load my Stock RUU.
Problem with above is i have done the unlock boot loader and install twrp recovery. But to do a s-off i need my device to read adb commands. As its in boot loop i cannot. Can i flash a custom binary which can run on S-on just to run those commands of firewater to make s-off.
I am stuck here. Please help to revive my device and reach me back to stock 4.4 sense 6 .
Also i came to know as i was on latest version if i flash a older RUU with S-On it can brick my device. True ?
And something else i noticed , i read some 4-5 thread in last two days complaining of HTC going in boot loop just like that.
HTC to blame ? Is this some issue with htc ???
Thanks

as mentioned in the previous post you made, you need to install a custom ROM first in order to boot back into your phone. You have unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP recovery. Now you need to sideload the ROM by adb sideload commands in order to boot the phone up again
Do not run an earlier RUU.zip as you will brick your phone. Firewater needs a working ROM, there are no ways to bypass this
Flash ARHD 81 or Insert Coin or Team Venom Rom
Step 1. Unlock Bootloader and Install TWRP 2.7.x.x recovery. Don't install Twrp v2.8.x.x, wont work with any roms.
Step 2. Boot to Recovery.
Step 3. Mount the system using twrp. I am assuming that you don't have custom rom on your phone storage.
Note that TWRP v2.7.x.x wont mount the phone storage. v2.7 and above always had issues. My recommendation is to install TWRP v2.8 for temporary purposes. Now mount the phone storage copy any rom you downloaded to the system.
Step 4. Assuming that you install TWRP v2.8 to copy rom files to phone storage. Boot to bootloader again and Install TWRP using fastboot. Command: "Fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.1.1-m7.img"
Step 5. Reboot to recovery. WIPE DATA, CACHE, DALVIK CACHE, SYSTEM > Install Rom.
Note do not wipe "internal storage." Otherwise you have to go back and start again with installing twrp v2.8, then copy rom...
Step 6: follow the steps.
IMO ARHD 81 is a stable rom, provides better battery life. If you like Sense then stick with this Rom, if you want Stock Android aka AOSP then try aospa legacy, CM, SlimKAT, AOSB and many more.
Moreover, i haven't found RUU for Sense 6 KK4.4.3, if you do please provide me a link as well.
As of yet there are no links for 4.4.3 RUU's. Haven't been released anywhere. He just needs a working ROM to get s off again. Nice step by step guide tho
Not able to copy my custom rom in phone.

Hi , i got stuck with a minor issue. I am with 2.8 TWRP was trying to mount the phone . i am using a mac os with the Android Revolution Rom downloaded in place. .
m7 gets mount i could see the phone in android fie transfer ( MTP utility for mac) . I selected the System and data and cache back in the twrp mount page. I can write and create some folders etc.
Issue is when i start to copy the Custom ROM file to the phone ( any folder) it says 'filexxx.zip not copy'. However i copied a small file (1mb). It was copied ok.
Any idea what is the issue with the file size restrictions?
I tried the adb sideload that also fails with saying device not found. Wanna avoid sideload, as sideload will execute also the zip after copying . I Want to change the recovery file as the recovery file need to changed to a twrp 2.7xx before installation starts. I hear that V2.8 is not compatible with lot of roms.

You are better using the 2.7.xx version of TWRP. Sounds like you could also be using out of date adb drivers. You can download the most up to date ones by downloading the latest Google sdk
Try fixing the above and sideloading again
No luck ! Fastboot mode also not getting detected now.

Hello i tried updating the drivers from the sdk itself. No luck . The device won't just get detect as adb device. Tried cache clear. factory reset , reboot pc and phone. And Loaded other twrp recovery images ( 2.8 and 2.7).
Today tried with a window machine also. I thought some issue with Mac + adb drivers. But with window also No luck.
Also one more issue, my phone fastboot has stopped detecting om pc and mac. Tried everything almost.
It was like just working some time back, i loaded twrp 2.7.x and booted to recovery for adb sideload.
Adb Sideload failed as mentioned above on this window machine also ... so i was like this adb is not working at all.
But then i thought of loading 2.8 twrp and see if mount (mtp) works, i can send the ROM to device this way. But for that when i booted to fastboot. Fastboot just stopped detecting in PC (window and mac)
I wonder can the Fastboot mode ( within Hboot bootloader) can go corrupt ?
I am sure drivers are there, usb cable is fine, usb port in HTC one is fine. It just show "fastboot ac" not "fastboot usb" . No activity in the device manager when i plug surprisingly !! (can't see Android phone there " . Afterall it was working ok when i loaded the recovery image of 2.7.1.
Also , can the recovery mess up with the fastboot mode ? i am still s-on and in boot loop.
-Thanks,

Sounds also like a driver issue
Try instling HTC sync to get the up to date HTC drivers and retry. Use different usb ports (2.0 preferably) and different cables. If it's saying fastboot ac then the phone is not being detected correctly, so it's a driver issue
You can also try manually installing the driver by searching for I think the Google naked driver
