Hi,
I'm with 3 in Ireland and where the 3G coverage is limited, 3 have an agreement with Vodafone to use their 2G network.
This is fine, however frequently I'm connected to a 2G mast when there is a 3G mast available.
Unlike other phones there is no option to select 3G networks only in the options (I have to manually search for networks and then select the 3G one - this takes a minute or 2 each time).
Anyone got any ideas?
Is there an app that will force 3G connection only?
The phone is unlocked and rooted and currently running Orange GB JB...
I found an option in the secret menu ( *#*#4636#*#*) to set WCDMA only - I'll give this a go for a while and see how I get on...

About to do the same, it drives me crazy to spectate that freaking R letter (same Irish 3). But have a question - what happens if no 3G network around (coasts, for instance)? Will it switch to Vodafone network or just stay without any?

Navigate to system/etc/motorola/com.android.phone and edit your default.xml like the attached Screenshot > reboot > profit
Backup your default one, just in case!

I hope this is not too off-topic, but does this xml file has something to with me not being able to chose GSM Auto PRL on my device (unlocked and rooted) using *#*#4636#*#*? (always reverts back to WCDMA only) or does it only change the menu?
Switch back to automatic before you trying to change to GSM

i know it's somewhat offtopic but does someone know if it's possible (i.e. by some lines in build.prop) to enable the national data roaming mode in jb (omars rom)?

Since I installed the ARHD 10 (Android 4.2.2) I recognized some changes with the hysteresis of the data signal switching.
With 4.1.2 I got H every day at the same place with gsm / wcdma auto selected.
Now with 4.2.2 I get G at first (gsm / wcdma auto selected too) , but when I manually switch to wcdma and then back to Gsm / WCDMA it stays at H.
Has anyone encountered the same issue?

Hi
all fine on CM10.1.2, except the fact that I want to use 2g only for battery saving, and after switching to 2g only, the phone autoswitches back to 3g after a variable period of time (30 min - 1 hour). During this time, the phone is on 2g as required. I have factory resetted, formatted all the partitions, odin-ed android 2.3.6 and after that CM 10.1.2 from CWM; so all clear, but the problem with 2g/3g remains...
Any fixes please ?...
Thank you!
think you can change the settings in service mode, not sure what the code is... also you have to type it into the stock dialer to access it.
tnanks, but I want to manually and easy switch to 3g when I want. Anyway, I didn't find any working codes for secret menu...
goto "settings" then "wireless & networks" then "moble networks" then click on "use 2G network only" also select "GSM/UMTS Network preferences" and select "GSM only"
I don't find GSM/UTMS option... when I click 2G only, after a while it uncheck itself and switches back to 3G.

I have temporary fixed it by using juicedefender. When not on wifi, it goes on 3G, so it's ok.

try this app and set it to GSM only http://bit.ly/1caLSfU
Didn't work, but thankyou anyway... It seems that it works with android 4.3.

Try downloading the latest release.. I think it has been fixed..

Hey guys.
I figured out something weird what piss me off a bit.
When im using E/2G mobile data i have full signal. But when i use H+/3G i have 1 or even 0 signal and the result is a bad internet connection.
You know what the cause could be? No matter what rom i use, i have it on every rom. (Sense, GPE, slimbean). I attach a Screenshot where you can see my baseband Version.
Thanks

Bad 3g coverage in your region? Did you compared with others devices?
2g / Edge is the original voice network with data added.
3G / HSDPA is a completely different network and offers only a data connection.
So its possible your 2G and 3G connections are so different due to locations of the tower.
Its also possible the antenna in your device might have a problem with the 3G so unless you get another device to test with its an either or.
But at least now you know that 2g / 3g / LTE are in fact different networks.
I have htc one that was bought in brasil, now i'm in croatia, Europe, and can't connect to mobile internet... so someone sad to me that i need to change to europe version of software and it should work...

If you are able to do calls (your phone is unlocked) than you just need tp change APN settings in settings, mobile data, GSM/UMTS options, access point names according to your operator

Hello friends,
I recently installed CM11 FXP314 into my Xperia SP smartphone. The ROM is amazingly smooth and responsive to use. But with one problem is that even though I use preferred network type as 3G mode, the phone sometimes switches itself to 2G mode that results pretty slow internet speed. The stock Sony ROMs doesn't have this issue. Is there anything I can do?? Does the developer can fix this issue ???
Thanks in advance

On my CM11 there are basically 3 options under "Preferred network type" LTE, 3G and 2G. Since my phone is an C5302 model (No LTE support) me selected the 3G mode but the phone sometimes switches to 2G of its own, resulting poor internet speed.

That code shows me as "Your input code is invalid".

Yes the the number worked and I changed the settings you said.:good: Also in case if there is a situation where there is poor 3G range will I able to change to 2G mode by selecting under the preferred network type to 2G, instead of going through this number you said ??
Thanks in advance
