Yep, unfortunately, you can still use the original camera as well tho.
It'll keep us going until Sony upgrades us to 4.2. (if they do).
Why would I want to use this 5mp camera when u have stick Sony camera which is 12 mp and had more features?

Because it has photosphere, which is cool .
You have the original T camera also, which runs side by side with the 4.2 camera, best of both worlds.

Right, so this is not to replace the Sony cam, but rather to add photosphere to this. You are effectively adding a feature, not replacing an existing one

It runs both cameras, it doesn't upgrade the sony cam., it upgrades the operating system, the 4.2 cam. with photosphere and the original cam. remain seperate and both fully functional.
Which is pretty cool.

Photosphere is a feature introduced in JB 4.2. Essentially, it is a panoramic camera that makes use of the gyroscope to allow you to take a bunch of pictures all around you, and merges them, creating an immersed image (meaning, you are standing in the middle of the picture). this is the same tech used for Google streets (how you can view around, up, and down... same concept)...
Hope this makes sense... look it up

Thanks, I did know that but it wasnt advertised well as to what it was in the OP so I though many users would just go "5mp, you must be joking, why?"
Anyway, it looks good and I will give it a try, but the panoramic camera on the T is extremely good...but if we get a google street map view that can be scrolled and zoomed into...wow....

Ok, keep up the good work fella. Great posts on the T's development. :good:
Confirmed working on Xperia T with CM10.1.
Others have reported the new Camera app taking upto 5MP? Mine's allowing me to take up to the standard Camera app, which is 13MP.
Question
Do we change ro.product.model or ro.semc. Model?
Cause I don't think I have to.product.model

The only thing that I am regretting migrating to JB 4.1.2 on my SGSA is that the camera app no longer includes the "action shot panorama" photo style.
This was brilliant to use with my kids, so you could press once and let the camera take several photos, and stitch them together whilst at the same time focusing on an active subject.
I've trawled through the Play store to find an alternative (I'd happily pay!) but haven't found anything like it.
(If I was able to add a link to show you an example, it would include the dropboxDOTcom server over https followed by /s/23ynpqie9y2gjm0/2013-03-23%2014.44.03.jpg?v=0swn-
Has anyone found a replacement?
Cheers!

I even mailed some of the android camera app developers to see if they could add it to the list of things to do. It was a great little feature, and "it just worked"!
It's not the end of the world, but I would prefer to have it back!
(Congratulations on your 900th post )

Yeah... Although the stock 4.2 camera app has Photosphere - even that doesn't work on our phone... These two features are the things I'm missing the most .
But there are couple of good camera apps in Google Play.. Just search "panoramic camera" and you will get a bunch of results there... I haven't tried any - but most of them have many good reviews..
We can wait for Samsung's next update for our phone.... Since I think its included in Samsung's latest JB firmwares...

I've tried most of those panorama free adopts on the play store but they only do the nice landscape-type panoramas, not the cool action one.
Would it be possible to create a custom ROM with the gingerbread camera app in it instead of the jb one?

try "twin" apps
I am a developer of this feature (worked at Samsung at some point), and I can say it it is not easy to do
The most similar apps I saw are "Twin Me! Camera", or "Easy Twin Camera (Clone me)". Albeit they allow you only two copies and lack object tracking capabilities. But maybe someone will come up with this as well.

It was a truly awesome feature, you should be really proud of being part of that one. Just really odd that it was dropped completely when the cameras were perfectly capable of doing it. And doubly so that it can't just be ported straight across from GB.
I don't think it was particularly well named in the camera app, so I doubt too many people realised what it actually did.
I still think about dropping back to GB to get that functionality back!
Matt
Please do something about this get this app or option back in phones, point and shots, high end camaras, 360 camaras, all camaras. Do what you can , you helped make this, and it worked Awsome! I'm with the iniatial post , I am looking for this app . Try looking up devices with it , you cannot, it doesn't have a name other then it's named function. So frustrated . I would purchase a product simply because of this " mode" . ( I don't want to purchase a old camara phone model just to have it.. But I might!) thank you cheers . Great "mode"

Most of us have decided to unlock the bootloader as there is no root or xposed without it.
But as you may have noticed this wipes the masterkey in TA unit 66667 and will make all Sony credentials inaccesible. As a consequence a lot of functionality is lost, e.g x-reality, Sony application updates etc.
Here is a solution to simulate the credentials again. There is no way to recover your lost key, but we can simulate them. Just flash the attached zip via TWRP, that's all.
This is solution is for all Z5 models (Z5 compact, Z5 , Z5 Premium, and the dual models of course)

I can say that I have tested this on Xperia Z5 Premium, and when I view the sample photos that came with the phone I can now clearly see the image quality scale up just like before I unlocked bootloader!
Thanks ALOT Tobias, you're the man!
EDIT: Below I have included my experiences from the original thread where this was posted, and I will continue to update it if I feel necessary!
Testing right now on Z5P, will report back!
EDIT: First test: I went into album and viewed the sample photos that came with the phone. I can now se a clear change in the image quality, just like before unlocking bootloader! Going to do some camera tests now!
EDIT2: My camera app will not start, stating it is already in use or the flashlight is. Will try to install camera 2.0 then see what happens.
Camera keeps crashing, and will not start :S
EDIT3: Now suddenly there were several updates available on the "Whats new" app! Will post a screenshot soon!
EDIT4: I installed a 3rd party camera app (CyanogenOS Camera) and the pictures are noticeably better than before this fix! I think I can say its back to the quality it was before unlocking bootloader!
In the meantime I discovered that my 32gb sd card is now almost full, with only 2gb left. Are there any large files that twrp creates other than the backup files everytime I flash a rom or something?
Is there anything I can safely delete here?
EDIT5: After some more camera testing and comparing pictures with my lumia 1020 and my galaxy s6 I can say that in my eyes the picture quality is back to its original state.
So just flash this in recovery on an unlocked bootloader and we are done? Or am I missing something?
I haven't unlocked my bootloader as of yet but I'm tempted to now.

I assume you are refering to my experiences with this fix.
Although the sony camera app for some reason stopped working after this, I can still use all my other apps that include the use of the camera without problems, like snapchat or the Cyanogen Camera which when I take pictures with and compare them to the pictures taken before the DRM restore, I can clearly see that the picture quality is now back!

Actually, CyanogenOS Camera has it's own postprocesssing, so you aren't using Sony's. It's just an alternative. I still want to know if it's possible to get the Sony algorithms back and/or use Sony's Camera app.

EDIT: I just tested Sony camera 2.0 to shoot with real high 3200iso indoor and no color noise there, confirmed this patch restored Sony low-light denoise algorithms.

I think it actually make use of Sony engine, not to mention it works with 23MP/20MP mode and it also access all scenes mode in Sony camera just acting like a stock camera. I'm using my phone... And are you sure this has been available for 5.0.2? I know it's been available for 5.1.1 Lollipop for some time now...Because I'm pretty sure as of a month ago (that's around the last time I searched this topic) it wasn't working on 5.0.2 because people were getting Force Close errors on all the Camera 2.0 ports.. A couple of the devs even said 5.0.2 was impossible with this... but if you know of a recent 5.0.2 port that I don't know about, let me know.. It's not that I doubt you, I'd just like to see it for myself since I sunk a lot of time into getting this to work for our Lollipop version...Thanks!

This is the only way to get camera 2.0 on the z3v. Or use the other ports and watch your camera not work anymore and force close.

Where can I find a list of improvements that will be had specifically to the z3V over the original camera software?
Also, can you please tell us what is different than the other downloadable installation file that's floating around here? They have the same timestamp and are the same size. I'm not doubting, just trying to understand.

There are no list of improvements specific to our device model, this is just the updated Sony camera app(s) ported from the Z5 to work on our devices. I wasn't aware there was another flashable camera port for the Z3v floating around here... Please link me to it. I assure you, you have nothing to risk by flashing this and that I am the original developer of this port... No one else by my knowledge should be circulating this file around for the Z3V or 5.0.2 in general. I'm making a flashable zip as we speak to revert back to the orginal camera should you not like the Camera 2.0's interface... I'm also working on an updated version of this port that will provide some camera improvements. When I'm done with both zips they will be posted in the OP along with some cleanup and screenshots. Thank you for your questions, it's great to ask questions... that's how we learn.. And its always good to know as much as possible before flashing anything to our phones. Should you have any more questions feel free to ask and I hope you enjoy the MOD.
Nope, not the same. When Mega DLs I end up with two of everything. Previous download zips were moved to my card and is the z5 2.0 at 10.5mb.
Will try this later and look for differences.

Would you mind linking me to this other zip you're referring to? Thank you
EDIT: Nevermind I can tell by the size of the file you must be referring to one of the other Camera 2.0 ports here on XDA. You can try flashing those at your own risk if you'd like, but I'd kindly like to warn you ahead of time, those do not work on Lollipop 5.0.2... The reason my port is larger in file size is because the framework ported from 5.1.1 as well as permission files to run Camera 2.0 are included. It is worth noting however, you can flash any other Camera 2.0 port AFTER flashing mine and they'll work since mine installs the correct framework and permissions that are necessary.
Zach,
Thanks for putting this together. I've installed it on rooted 5.02 and it's running well. Note that a couple boots were required after TWRP install and the user will get an overheat if trying to use the camera immediately but after the phone acclimates it is just fine.
I had downloaded the z5 zip not understanding that the z3V was the only one not on the list. I actually almost installed it until I read that it could brick the phone.
The UI seems a bit fiddly but I guess each has it's learning curve. I took random dim indoor shots, including some macros, before and after in the sensors native 4:3 aspect ratio at 20.7MP usingthe original and your ported 2.0, but using Camera FV-5. I didn't tripod the phone or run any real range, just point & shoot of 28 shots all the same objects from the same spot.
So far I have not noticed a significant difference and when the photos are zoomed in on they show the same muddled look from what appears to be the same overcorrective software (I'm sure Sony didn't change that). I've read that the z5 camera hardware is identical to the z3V.
I'll put her on a tripod this weekend and do some real testing.
The original camera zip will make flipping back and forth easier for comparison testing.
Thanks for making this happen!
Thank you so very much for your time and effort to get this working for our device
So how many of us have actually installed this ROM? Is it worth ditching the setup we have right now? I mean I don't really know how this could provide better performance if Sony hasn't updated any soft for our phones camera. I could understand manual modes might provide greater ability to change fine settings, but point and shoot quality and overall use ability is was I am concerned about.
First off, it's not a ROM, it's technically just a mod. Secondly, Sony supposedly did update the software, and because the camera hardware in our z3V phones are identical to those of the z5 which was released with this updated software, it will do the same thing and be perfectly installable without having to port it. -And it is, on nearly every single z model but ours because the z3V is a Verizon Sony step child.
The UI is MOSTLY what's new and improved, but lower light shots do seem to be rendered better by the software. The ISO limits haven't changed and I doubt that Sony did something to alter their interpolation software, but something does seem different.
Until I can easily switch back and forth without having to flash to an entire restore that's 12Gb (in other words, simply flash back to the original camera as a zip), I'm not going to bother with tripod testing. Once I can do that, I will take shots with a tripod in varying light using the old and new camera zips and examine the shots and exif data. It could simply be that in manual mode the software defaults to better settings. I'm guessing that it's the default values values in lower light situations that have been changed, if anything.
At first I didn't like the user interface just because I wasn't used to it. But now I find I'm actually using it more than I used the old one (I normally use FV-5). It is a one handed, portrait friendly UI.
I highly recommend this mod. Simply make a backup and install it. You can always revert back to the old one via your backup or you could wait for zachariahpope to release the original as an installable zip.
I found I minor bug. The front camera wants to stay on manual. If you switch to superior auto, the camera closes.

Strange. Mine doesn't crash when switching to superior auto with the front camera.
Edit: It does if I try to switch while using the front camera. If I switch to Superior Auto for the rear camera and then switch to front camera it is fine.
Guys, I just tried Snap Camera, and i found out that the video recording is really brighter when recording on Snap Camera compared to Sony's Stock Application. ALSO,on Snap Camera, i can tap on screen to change focus while recording video, which is something that I am not allowed to do when I use Stock App.
This means that our device(z3 compact) IS CAPABLE of using Touch to Focus while video recording. Is there any way to activate/enable/make use of this feature on Sony's Stock Application?!
Thanks in advance.

Yes of course !
Decompile the stock camera app and code it in yourself.
100% serious answer: judging from your question, no.

Is it possible for developers @mkdmc to do something like this? I mean, since they're making mods, they might know how to tweak the stock app camera to achieve it!

Like I said... It'll be faster if you code it yourself. I know everyone here can do that since it's XDA- ""developers"" after all.
Whether he wants to mod it or not is a different question, better to ask him yourself.

I have no idea of coding...I wouldn't even create a thread if I knew how to man.

Thought you made a typo ( can - instead of can't) and that's why I didn't catch it. Message sent. Hope he replies!
The question is: Is there a high request of this feature or not? I myself don't have a problem not having that focus, as for real recordings, I better use my "real" camera / camcorder instead of the phone.
@kwstas 13
Thanks for your suggestions. I'll add it to cyberian road map
I really needed this feature! I get that some people didn't like it, but all you had to do was turn it off! This is why we can't have nice things...
Lol you must be joking.
Checkout in gallery edit image options. May be they've put something similar there. So that after you've made a picture, you could edit it with similar or the same effect. I haven't searched myself. And in the pervious phones I haven't used the thing you've mentioned, but I have seen it and only tested it out and it was nice. And indeed it worked very well.

Samsung's beauty mode was the best, I've tried all the 3rd party apps in Play, they aren't as good and they're loaded with ads! Not only could beauty mode do skin smoothing, it also did face shape correction because the front cam was so wide it distorts your face.
