When you create a new contact, it saves as default on sim card. This is really stupid, because it's not sync with Google and there's no options like email or address on that storage. Also, I used to add my friends address from maps adding a star to their home and then adding as a contact, but since the contacts app saves as default on sim, the position is lost even if you change it to google after that, so for now it's impossible to add coordinates to your contacts.

Nop.
When you create a new contact, it saves as default on phone, not SIM card.
If you go to settings in phone book and set all contacts you will have new contact by default on phone.
Not on mine! As you can see in the picture attached, it doesn't have a phone as option to save the contact. Are you using v30a?

use export/import function when going into the contact.
it is always safer to keep your contacts on the SIM card
if you`re too lazy to do such a simple thing then i dunno what to say

Keep the contact at simcard is absolutely not the safer option. You can loose your phone, and if your contact was not synced with Google or whatever you're f.....
And why are you calling me lazy? I think you're the lazy one, since you didn't read the post entirely and didn't realize that I explained that it's impossible to add coordinates from gmaps to your contacts' address.

I use v30A stock an have phone, google account and sim when i try save contact.
Save all your contects on some save place and do hard reset on phone or flash again latest version FW, becouse, now you have something wrong with this fw.
Mine shows: Phone, Gmail and Sim.
If "Phone" is missing in yours then I guess that would be a rom problem.
I would also like Gmail as default but I don't know how to do it, if you figure that out let me know

After continuosly flashing my device smt I have to format so all contacs are lost,
Ususally I use the export to sd card feature to restore contacs,
I`ve tried the outlook and Kies Sync, also Google sync,
but it seems none of them is perfect, because many joined contacts and icons are lost,
Which is the best way, without using any back up Apk?
u can export ur all contacts from contacts menu...u can backup them in ur sd or sd card and copy them in ur pc and then after flashing import back the contacts......this is the best way i do.......coz in this contacts remain as same as last time.......nothing is change no pic and associated contacts of gmail and other remove.
The best was is move your contacts to your Gmail account and let them sync.
Then if you have to wipe your device you can get everything back by just entering your Gmail email address and password.

I only sync my contacts and calendar to google. Don't technically use the phone or sim at all. Every flash I add my google account again and it's all back!
That's the way to do it.
Sorry for being stupid but how do I sync my contacts to gmail
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
The export as stated in the second post is my way to go.

What about the joined contacts with facebook, do they come back after restore?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I use both local back up (SD ) and google sync
I prefer Google Sync .
Google sync is good, it actually can restore your contacts to early time , I backed back to SD card too but till now , I haven't use it .
Google all the way, so easy! I really can't see what the problem is!

They do in my case. Or you could try an add-on contact manager app like GOcontacts which has the capability to search for duplicate contacts and then merge.

Me too, never lost any contacts or calendar entries...
i backup phone numbers in sim and all of them in google and facebook contacts stays there as it will synch back
backup contacts to sd card.... move them to PC then export them to your gmail contacts... gmail will join same contacts.
thats it... never lose your contacts again
vCards
I often us the share option and send the contacts a vCard to my gmail, and after flashing i just go to that email and download the vCard and all my contacts are restored. The other plus in that way is that i can choose which one to sand as vCard
MyPhoneExplorer has always done it for me
1. Backup Contacts, SMS, Events
2. Installs APKs
3. File Explorer and lots more
Have never touched Kies....

Same here, Google sync is most reliable !
try Uia backup contact
synchronising your contacts either with your google acc. or an exchange account is a very reliable solution to protect your contacts. if you setup your fon from scratch you just have to hook up to the network and get connected to your 'cloud service' - the sync function installed on your fon will do the rest in seconds / minutes.
How many contacts i can save on my gmail account bcz whenever i save new contact and select gmail acc to save it asks me some data may be deleted. I even ignored it but eventually i lost some contacts. Pls can some one tell me is it like this only or i mistakenly did something wrong bcz it really creates prob to load contacts when changing roms or i always have import contacts to sdcard.
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk
no limit as I know.
How many contact do you have ?
77 for now but when i add new contact in phone and select to save in gmail acc it says some data may be deleted in nova 8 and stock rom both do u have any idea why and yes even cm7 aint ask like that but in cm7 even my all contact are not synchronizing.
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk
See i loading some pics of my prob.
See in first pic i select to save in gmail acc and in second pic it says some data may be deleted. So what is the best method to save all my contacts saving to gmail without loosing any other.
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk
And this happens only when i try to add contact directly from call logs. But if i make contact manually then its fine that popup did not come which says some data may be deleted.
Sent from my LG-P970 using Tapatalk
According to my experiences this is only a warning that data might be overwritten - but for me it never happened. Also appears when importing contacts from file, e.g. VCF. I would suggest just to ignore the message without worrying. ;-)
Even u have this message when saving contact to gmail?
Is is safe bcz its saying some data may be deleted, rather than data maybe overwritten.

back up to google is on... could that be the cause of this problem? A quick check in xda shows that I am not the only one.
could be, but not sure, you can turn it off and test it just in case.

Same exact problem for me. Can you please share your ROM configuration. I am on Crash ROM v7
think you need to check your google contacts and remove duplicates there.
Thats a good idea, you can merge contacts via comp browser. Or remove them there if they are there. Then possibly switch of after duplicates on phone are removed contacts sync.
Could be the culprit. Best to check where the duplicates are stored before trying by opening duplicate and checking which account it is saved under.

Gents, i really do think this is a bug. I too have the issue only with my work exchange account. The issue wasnt there before the latest German rom LRK. I have tried removing the account and recreating it but it happens again......
Can you others with this issue please post the rom version.
Also please dont suggest merging contacts as that isnt a fix to this issue
Ok, was just eliminating possibilities

Hey guys!
Don't know if that is possible on any ROM but for me (when I still was on a "normal" ICS ROM.. currently I'm on MIUI searching for a good ICS ROM) it worked out kinda like that... (On MIUI thats not possible...)
I don't remember very well how the option was named but if you go to your contacts and press menu one of the options on the bottom brings you to a list where you can choose from which source you want your contacts be taken from... Like SDCard, SIMCard, Google Account, Facebook, etc... just choose one source where you know every contact you need is saved and there you go.. You don't have any duplicated contacts anymore...
But maybe I'm remembering wrong and it was on the stock GB ROM from Samsung... Sorry guys it passed some time since my MIUI flash so I can't remember very well... But hope it helped somehow...
Guys the problem is only with exchange office 365 account, a corporate one in my case. I don't even have google contacts syncing. Everything in Outlook is great just one item on calendar, and just one contact.
The duplicates are only on the Note. I am on Crash ROM v7 4.0.4.
Maybe 4.0.4 ics is the problem...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Not necessarily. I have an on premise Exchange 2010 at work, not O365 and I have the issue.

Are you on 4.0.4?
maybe previously retained items are maintained, In that case switch off sync, make backup of outlook items, so incase anything goes wrong you can reimport if 365 has that opportunity.
Then set sync one way to phone on phone, and delete all contacts and calender items on phone. This could be done automaticslly not sure, when delting sync acount in accounts. Maybe from there you can delete data to, Then setup synch again, check if its push and if thats not supported there are any options regarding full synch on every synch. Also switch off option to allow duplicates to be created if its there.
This could work, try it and report back

I have this problem, my father is updating his phone from a Samsung Galaxy Pop to a Galaxy S3 mini (So he is used to TouchWiz and Android) so far so good.
There is only one small problem, he had saved all his contacts in the SIM card (Yes, very old fashioned hehe), now I copied all of them to his Google Account, in contacts I selected "only show contacts from Google Account", and it works fine! (Otherwise it should show duplicated contacts. the old ones from the SIM card and the ones in the Google Account).
BUT
When he want to send a SMS and selects the subject, it shows ALL the contacts in the phone (SIM and Google Account), so it's very anoying!
Contact app only shows the desired but SMS app shows all!
Is there a solution for this?
Best regards
Delete the contacts from the sim card.

You could remove Google account, then remove all contact & add Google account back & sync. If you still have double i'd check then in Google dashboard on a pc.
Hello guys
I changed my phone to z. Restored all the contacts from my old phone to new one.
After this is done. For few contacts I can't find their name or number when I search it using smart dial or phonebook search. But when that user calls me up his name n no. Flashes on the screen n stays in the call log. Later vanishes.
Could anyone help me to get all those hidden contacts.
Thank you.

Did you make a backup of all your contacts on Googleaccount on your previous phone
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Nope. I dint backup to a Google account.
I used wondershare mobilego.
My old phone was HTC wildfire we could not keep 2 Google accounts in it old version of android so I dint backup n dint want to mess up my primary account.
N in this phone I backed up all the contacts to a gmail account.
But I can't find it in phone.
I.e. When I try to find contacts In phone home screen last tab after favorites. Three persons icon where u can find local groups n Google account
In Google account the count is 0 , though I backed up the contacts.

Go to your contacts, optiond -> filter, expand the gmail account you used and make sure the correct group has a tick in the checkbox.
Thank you.
But in gmail account I checked all the sub fields.
When I backed up all my contacts to that gmail account.
After logging into gmail from my pc I'm able to see those contacts.
But in phone I can't find them under the Google account tab.

Re-sync maybe?
Could be duplicated numbers or names?
Sent from my C6603 using xda premium
Yup.
I had so many duplicates must be *3
Coz I had the Facebook sync on old phone.
That's the reason I used mobilego app to delete the duplicate. It worked well.
Still I have few duplicates. Very few I don't bother much with it.
But if I factory reset n sync my gmail account will I be able to restore my contacts.
I doubt coz I'm not able to find them in my phone.
I'm planning to root. So will have to be doing a factory reset many times. I'm new to root.

Resynced everything contacts calender etc.
No change

Sync your contacts to Google than open your gmail on your pc and check if all your contacts are there before doing a factory reset.
In gmail there is an option to merge all duplicated contacts

This happened to me too. I found out the contacts merged somehow O_O it's apparently a problem that other people have (Google it) as well. I painstakingly just unmerged every single one manually
Check if the contacts are merged!

My Z merges contacts with every single reset or flashing of the phone. Became a bit wearisome.
