[Q] Need reader app for Kindle fire HD 8.9 - 7" Kindle Fire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Somehow I've managed to lose the Kindle reader app off of my Kindle Fire HD 8.9 tablet. I've installed the standard Kindle apps, but they don't show up on the app list. I'm guessing only the app specifically for the Fire HD 8.9 will. Does anybody have a link to that particular app?

Sometimes I just had to power cycle for the app to show up. Have you tried a factory reset (it will wipe the internal storage)?

anyone have system image?

I seem to have run into an issue. After rooting my kindle fire hd 7" and installing google play I lost my notification bar and my bottom bar. I basically can only enter one app at a time and if I want to switch I have to reset. I have no access to settings, because the only way I know is to go through the notification bar.
Other than waiting for skorpn cable to get into fastboot, any other way I can possibly get this fixed?
I can pull mine off if you want

disappearing taskbar
i just had the same thing happen to me on unrooted kindle fire hd. I had just searched the forums last night and found out how to get gmail and reader onto my kindle... well I heard a notification and then it disappeared so I knew it had to be something. it IS new email in the inbox of your primary gmail account it seems. it is definitely tied to gmail. I went in and it came back and hasn't disappeared since. there's my two cents' worth of troubleshooting. just thought everyone would like to know.

You guys need to post in the tool you are using to root your Kindle's. There are MANY of you that are having the same issues with loosing your navbar and menu bars with this rooting process. This should NOT be happening.. If you are experiencing bugs with a automated root tool than you need to post in that thread to ask the developer of the tool...

Skype force closes

I have the kindle fire hd 7 inch non rooted. Skype works perfectly while kindle is on. After maybe ten mins of having the screen off, when I receive a call it rings but when I unlock the device a little box in the middle says "skype force closed", or something like that, and you can either choose "wait" or "ok". Anyone else experiencing this? I was thinking of using the phone version instead of the kindle version to see if it is better.

try this
Try using the program "Skype Boot." You don't need to have the Play Store installed; use go to the 1Mobile website, download the installation APK, install, open, and search for the Skype Boot program--enables opening Skype at boot up. I'm not sure it will help you, and you'll have to reboot to try it. I'd uninstall your version of Skype, and select to download the one fresh from the Amazon App store labeled for Kindle Fire. When you uninstall, select to uninstall from the app settings menu--completely wipe the program. Force close, wipe data, then wipe cash, then uninstall. That's just what I'd do. Then re-install the app, selecting it from the app store.
Sign in to it. I have a microsoft account I sign in with. probably doesn't matter. after that, go and open the Skype boot app from 1Mobile ('cause you didn't have any issues installing that, right? SHOULDN'T). Select to load Skype at bootup. Navigate out of that app, and reboot, see if that helps.
I've things a bit different in my setup; I'm rooted, and I used titanium backup to convert Skype to a system app. It hasn't force closed since yesterday when I rebooted. Also, if I go to my settings menu and look at installed applications and select to view running applications, Skype is not listed as running, but it definitely is (showing Online status in the notifications pull-down).
Just FYI, there's no harm in rooting, it won't break anything--but installing the Play Store is a bit complicated. Most people, myself included are not remotely interested in installing a recovery or flashing a ROM; it's risky, and any ROM you might flash at this point will seriously decrease the KFHD functionality. At this point this thing Flies, especially in comparison to the original KF. Flash a ROM and you likely won't even be able to play video (hehe, you might brick it too, if you're lucky!). Don't hold your breath on getting a ROM that actually improves Amazon stock function. That kinda broke even with the original KF, and with HD I don't think the incentive is really there to move and shake, dev-wise.

Fyi, the only rom available for the kindle fire hd 7" (other then the original) is Kinology. And it is above and beyond better then the stock P.O.S. rom.

[Q] Problem with Kindle app with CM10.1 eMMC ROM

I installed the CM10.1 eMMC ROM last night and I'm having trouble with the Kindle app. It's mainly just the carousel. The animation is really messed up and it seems to just "stack" all the books off to one side instead of the normal carousel effect.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app as well as clearing the app data and cache. Also removed all the books from the carousel, but it goes quirky again once books are added back to it.
I didn't have any issues with the Kindle app using the stock ROM before. Any ideas?
Seems I'm the only person having this problem. I guess I'll just trying reinstalling CM10.1 then.

I don't have any problem with my Kindle app, but I run in a non-standard density so the app is in phone mode and has no carousel. So I did not comment.

Accidentally deleted Kindle Fire HD Launcher

While "playing" around with my rooted Kindle Fire HD, I managed to accidentally deleted the Launcher.apk under system apps. The Kindle would then run most apps but would require navigating the market and searching the said app to open it since there was no launcher. However, the problem started after I rebooted to see if my Apex launcher would automatically come into play after being installed, since launcher was deleted. The Kindle turns on but is stuck at the animated kindlefire startup screen. When removed from battery, it gives off the usual low battery warning, which might be a sign it isn't completely bricked?
ABD is enabled, but the computer no longer picks up the device under the devices folder. It does however give the standard connection sound when a device is connected. Idk.
I am NOT able to order the factory cable at the moment, and i'm looking for suggestions to enable without the factory cable.
I can upload my launcher apk if that helps since I have the kindle fire hd 7

Go over to the kindle fire hd 7" general forum and look for the kindle fire first aide thread. They might be able to help you there. (If you haven't damaged your bootloader)

KFHD won't register with Amazon after root

A few days ago I rooted my KFHD and it worked great, this morning, I turned on my kindle and it had deregistered it's self and only gives me an error when I try to re register. Any suggestions or reasons for this sudden registration problem?
I would try clearing your caches, I only say this because I remember after clearing the cache and dalvik cache a long time ago it deregistered my mom's kf1, and while that is a different model, if anything is similar in how it works maybe clearing the cache might clear what's not letting it register. I think titanium backup has an option to do it for you or I can give you a command I don't remember off the top of my head you can run from a mobile terminal or adb shell.

After much tinkering, I think I need to do a reimaging, which sucks, but I also had applied a wallpaper fix and it makes the status bar disappear even after I restored the framework file. I'll just turn it off for a few days I guess.
Yea I need to release an update to fix that problem... I think its related to the dalvik cache. I added a wipe to the coding recently for the dalvik cache but I haven't released it yet because I was going to add it to v3 when its released, but I ran into a snag, the idme command isn't included in twrp and I don't know if its included in amazon os... Anyways clearing your cache and dalvik cache should fix the problem.

I heard gmail causes a notification bar problem, you wouldn't happen to have that installed would you?
