Xperia Z SMS app appearance - Xperia Z Themes and Apps

New to Sony and looking to tweak a few things...
One of those is the appearance of the SMS app:
- how do you get a different background?
- how do you make conversations aligned on right end side of the screen for receiver and left hand side for sender (rather than both on the left side on stock version?)

Given that there is root available now, is that something that ever been done for other Xperia models? I like the standard SMS app, it's just these two little things... Maybe time to get an app from the market?

[REQ] Captivate Contacts app

I've been trying to install the apk, but it force closes anytime you try to access the contacts app. I like the one from the Captivate because you can swipe the contact name right to call, and left to message directly. I don't like the Fascinates, which shows the text/call buttons when you swipe the contact to the right.
Any ideas out there?
I would also love to have this
I have not seen this, does anyone have a video or a link to a video on the Captivates contacts app?

It works like when you are in the fascinates messaging app. Swipe your finger right on a messaging thread and it place a call, left and it opens a message. On the vibrant it will do this in the contacts app.
Bump.........
The stock contacts app will do this also. Swiping right brings up an envelope and phone for their respective uses.

We're aware but that's not what we want. I want like the Captivate and Vibrant where I swipe right and it places a call and left opens a message.

Correct, this is the functionality I'm looking for. The contacts app on the fascinate is also a nice touch, but its an extra click. I know it may sound picky, but hey, thats why we mod our phones!
This would be awesome, that's one feature I liked about the vibrant.

I assume the one you tried (and kept FCing) was the deodexed version?

I tried taking the Contacts.apk directly from the Vibrant system dump and it didn't do anything but FC so I was thinking maybe I need the odex file also or there was more work to be done to get it running that was beyond my knowledge.
I think the reason behind the FC is because of the missing parameter for the backup assistant which verizon only offers i think. (you need subscription for this)
The swipe action works in the text message thread. Go to your text messages and swipe left or right on a name then it will either go call or text, respective direction.

It was a system dump from the i9000, I also tried the one from the Vibrant like kvaughan did. I haven't been able to find the Contacts.apk from a Captivate dump, I'm actually on vacation this week and I havent been in front of my computer too much to do some real research
OK, I've attached the Contacts.apk and ContactsProvider.apk from the deodexing of the last official (i.e. non-Froyo) Captivate ROM.
I haven't tried it (and am not quite sure what ContactsProvider *does*), so test at your own risk.
I'll take a look at implementing that & see how it goes.
Edit: The slide to call or message is a nice feature. The only issue is that the settings for Contacts.apk has SIM & ATT features. When tapping a contact on the home screen, instead of coming up like a message box (comic style), it just pops up without much kick...
Now Im new to the programing part of all this so correct me if im completely off base or if it would be to difficult. Since the feature does work in the fascinates text messaging. Would it be possible to locate the part of the code in there and implement it into the contacts. I'm not doubting that it would be extremely complex but since it is already on the fascinate it theoretically would work if that part of code could be transfered into the contacts file correct?
For some god-awful reason the Captivate Contacts.apk is dependent on the Yahoo! Stock Widget.
>_>
So you'll need at least that.
No, just use the Mesmerize Contacts. Works great on either DI01 or DJ05.

[Q] How to hide apps in app drawer?

It's not apps per say. It's those wallpaper apps that have silly app icons in the drawer. Like the SGSIII wallpaper, Nexus wallpaper, etc etc. See screen shot below. It's just a personal pet peeve of mine thats all. Something I used to be able to hide with the Xperia launcher add on while using my Samsung Galaxy S 4G. I thought the native Xperia launcher would have also had this feature natively.
but you still can make it a bit cleaner, why you dont reorganize yours apps?. I have on first screen only most used apps, on second - multimedia and navi, third - games, fourth - rare used, fifth - junk from system, like help ect.

Again, why dont you just delete those apps? They dont come on generic firmwares, its just bloatware...delete them
Hiding them does nothing to free up space on your system, it just removes the icon..if you are that bothered about icons you might want to free up space, in which case you need to delete the apps.

[Q] How to disable popup warning AFTER charging?

Hi,
I recently got a wireless charging receiver for the phone and now I get this annoying popup which says to close the micro usb properly to prevent water damage.
This happens also sometimes during charging in the middle of the night.
Can anyone tell me how to disable the popup? To make it clearer, it is not the flashing text that appears when the phone is connected to the charger. ( this can be disabled via xposed module)
The one I am talking about is more like a text with a white background picture.
"for protection against water damage firmly seal the charging cover before use"
Anyone else with the "problem" ?
I am on NEE-I9295XXUBMK2.
Thanks for the help in advance.

this also happens when I disconnect the device from USB.

I have found battery_cover_notice.xml in systemui\res\layout
There is an battery_cover_notice_image and an battery_cover_notice_message
The Pic is help_img_usb.png in folder systemui\res\drawable-hdpi
Now you can try and delete the battery_cover_notice.xml from the SystemUI

I tried and it worked ( at least the popup doesn't appear anymore) but I do not have a notification area at the top anymore. No clock, Signal or anything.
Perhaps it's because of the odex file? Didn't touch that.
I will try it again. Might be, I did something wrong.....
Thanks
okay thanks for feedback...

No solution found so far.
Only I remember - that started after OTA update from Samsung in later 2013.
On original software I didn't have such warning.
Before and after is 4.2.2 Android, I didn't notice any changes, so I am lookiing for old firmware to download...
p.s. I also have wireless charger from "indiegogo"

Cloud it be that this notice is a toast with a custom theme? You could check it with my app EnhancedToast, and hide it if it is a toast. Enable logging in the app and watch it.And yes, root is required for Xposed. Btw, the Google edition don't show it at all

^Mostly what I was going to say, so thanks.
You should check EnhancedToast if you can, and you could always switch ROM's - I'm loving the CM 10.2 ROM, which doesn't have the warning, and offers a lot of other advantages. If a notification comes up in the bar, long-press it and see if comes up with the "app info" button - it could be run through some sort of stock app that you could disable or uninstall altogether.

Any good source to learn more of ROMs? What do I lose if I dump the original, what do I get with some other ROM?
How should I backup? Meaning there's lot's of data:
- contacts and messaging and that stuff
- pictures, music, videos etc
- OS (?)
- ROM
- Apps (downloaded and system)
Maybe someone could explain the best practice to backup ROM,OS and apps.
Thanks in advance, Kaptah.

What method of rooting your phone did you use? They are not the same thing, but it is possible to do them both at the one time. If everything looks different, then yes, you would have changed your ROM while rooting.

This problem appeared/reappeared when i upgraded from 4.2.2 to 4.3 (ML2)
After rooting ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2690133 )
and disabling KNOXagent it still gives this warning, which it did not do after the 4.2.2 Active Root.
This is merely an annoyance but if someone figures out a quick way to disable it that would be grand.
i have this issue too. cant wait for a fix for this. just updated to 4.3 a few days ago and having to tap the bubble everytime is just annoying. why the hell would they add these rediculous notifications? its not like att or samsung will stand behind the "waterproof" claim anyway..... water damage weather the door is open or closed means your screwed no matter what.
I've personally tried using the "EnhancedToast" module for xposed and the prompts do not register as toast events. It has to be something else.

I've used the S5 and figured out how to disable the magazine app, well, the S6 has a similar feature that uses Flipboard. I haven't been able to figure out how to disable.
Also, I have NO IDEA how to create a folder in the App Drawer.

Dunno about about the folders but you can hide (but maybe not disable) the Flipboard screen by unchecking its box in the "rearrange home screens" mode.

While the wrap around effect is long gone in TouchWiz, it is still implemented on most third party launchers. And call me crazy, but someone with so much experience should know how to simply add new pages and reassign the home page.

I wasn't asking how to rearrange home screens. The feature is alive and well in the 4. Don't see any benefit to removing it, but you're not really here for help or a discussion. Just to be argumentative and condescending.

I find the LG dialler requires more finger presses. But I'm coming from the Song Xperia dialler.
New call: Go to dialler. Possibly not on the call tab so click that. Start to type name and some suggests come up. Click on the [v]. Select the person/number to call. And now the bit that annoys me, press the call button. If I click on number why not just call them, why show number and wait for me to press another button?
Call back: So I missed a call. Go to dialler, go to call logs, click on the call I missed. Show the contact details. WTF? So now I click the phone icon and call. Yes I know there is a little call icon but I'm used to clicking a phone number and it dials it. Not have to locate one tenth of the call log line to start a call.
Anyway, I'll get used to it but I do think I have to do more work for simple calls versus other diallers.
Wow. That is as clear and concise an answer as I could ask for. I wish my wife would answer simple questions like that, but I have to ask her twenty follow-up questions just to get an answer to the first one! So, I do see what you mean, and I have found it at least a little annoying myself. I guess I just accepted it as the way it is. Never really thought to look for a different dialer, but by golly it just might be worth a look now. Thanks for taking the time to give such a thorough answer. I hope you type much faster than I do, but I use Swype keyboard.
Does the original Dialer needs to be uninstalled first before installing Google-Dialer 3.00?
-> If yes, where to get that original Dialer found and uninstalled?
How about if Google-Dialer will be updated in future to 3.xx?
- Auto-Update or manual update needed?
- Link to webside to be able to always have the latest version installed?
Thx
It's crashing on me. Where can I get one that works?

Ive had no issues with this. Been using it for a week or so & has been flawless.
Also been working for me with no issues. Combined with the Google Contacts app and then Calendar, Clock, and Calculator, throw an icon pack into Nova, and I seriously feels like I'm stock. Very very happy.
as soon as i click on the icon i get "Unfortunately, Phone has stopped" message.
There are several versions out there. It would be helpful if ya'll would specify which version is or is not working. I am running the 2.05.07_rc4 with no issues. I haven't tried the 3.0 version yet.
