Music during coding - Off-topic

Hello ladies and gentlemen,
I am a recent graduate of computer science and this period i am a general developer.
I would be thankful if you have any suggestion of music to listen during coding.

Classical - something not too busy so you don't actually listen to it, but it keeps your mind open.

A radio station in the UK, Classic FM, is pretty good as there's little chatter and just lots of chilled music. You can listen to them online from their site...
http://www.classicfm.com/
Alternatively, just get a music player that comes with radio stations preloaded, like WinAmp. You'll find something to suit your tastes and needs online easily

Actually I listen to 8 Bit music. Personally I find metal to be a but disturbing for something like coding. But then again, that's my preference.
What 8 bit in particular? Anything. Mostly Pokemon rhythms. Sometime 8 bit remixes too.

I can listen to anything while coding. I've grown up in a house with 6 kids, so you learn to concentrate no matter how noisy it is.

[Q] Where do you get your music mp3's from?

I am trying to figure where XDA peeps get their music from.
A lot of mine are legitimate, but a lot are pirated, long story short lots of piracy has lead to lots of purchases
CDs; I rip them in Apple Lossless (for archival purposes) and then use Max to encode them to 320kbps mp3. Then it's a case of making sure album art is correct and then fetching lyrics. I'm ridiculously anal about keeping an organised library ;P
I use amazon mp3 the most

Please tell me you're joking... Even 1080p videos on youtube have an audio bitrate of 128kbps, and unless you're demuxing them you're re-encoding an already lossy format >.<

Yup, that's it. Shazzam is your friend OP.
Soundhound.
I use to prefer SoundHound over Shazzam but it stopped returning results for me allot of the time, so I switched to Shazzam and it has been doing a better job. I think it depends allot on the genre too, for EDM I found Shazzam does a better job. But it's quite possible SoundHound has stepped their game up in the past 6mo. I keep both though just incase only one can identify. I have the premium versions of both too, not sure how much that matters.?.

Hate to be the buzz-kill, but re-sequencing loops from a sample library, does not a musician make..............
Anything with you actually playing an instrument ?

There is a difference between playing an instrument and producing music. You are saying that all techno/electro/dubstep/dnb/etc producers are not musicians if they don't play an instrument?
Just to add, I don't consider myself a musician. I do it just for fun.

Musicians play musical instruments, and I even include electronic stuff like drum machines where you at least need a sense of physical rhythm. If you use a keyboard and mouse then you're not playing an instrument at all so you're not a musician. Doesn't mean you're not producing music, but you're sure as hell not playing it.

Hardware - 10 year old PC (makes it more fun), mouse, keyboard, headphones (no special pro stuff)
Software - FL Studio 10, I tried Reason and Ableton Live, too, but FL is kinda, most intuitive I'd say.

No, not really. It's just that the manner in which you sequenced the samples doesn't really constitute an artistic statement, equivalent to that of a "Music Producer."

That's fine and great, nothing wrong with that, I just wouldn't have labeled the thread "Music Producing."
(perhaps "Fun with sampling")

I have to disagree with you there. There's an almost infinite number of ways that you could layer the samples, have key changes, tempo changes. It's all expressive and therefore it is artistic. Bare in mind that a guy laying out a few hundred slices of toast in a cuboid shape was once on show in an art gallery. It's that subjective!
Also once you've finished laying out your tracks, just selecting a master volume and clicking "render" makes you a music producer. Does it make you a good one? You can't possibly say from just that statement, but you have produced music.

FLStudio thread!

Hey all!
I'd like this to be a place where we can share our soundclouds and .flp (Fruityloops) projects, discuss music, and share tips about how we can potentially improve our music.
I'll start!

If you guys would like the flp of my latest couple songs, Id have no problem sharing them. :highfive:
Awesome idea for a thread. I've used FL on PC a lot before now but not had much of a play on my tablet. I keep meaning to sit down and spend some time on it.

Obviously it depends on the tablet, but I've got it on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 (first version) and it runs perfectly. I imagine it would labour a bit if I had lots of tracks and realtime effects running, but it played all the demo tracks without any lag or stutter. Obviously if it did get slow then I'd just have to render every time I wanted to hear it in full without lag.
I reckon it would run on most up-to-date tablets with no problem at all. A nexus 7, for example, should have no problem.
Are you using it on your phone then, or just on PC?

I don't think I've ever used FL to make a complete tune before now. I use Acid by Sony to layer loops and samples, but I make bass lines and some synth parts in FL.
Here's my soundcloud, which does include FL work, but lots of other stuff too...

When I use loops they're all my own stuff. I work primarily loops based but make them using synth, guitar or FL. I did start off using loops I'd downloaded when I was learning to use Acid, but quickly started recording my own.

Getting rid of my everlasting earworms

Yo people,
I think you all know the phenomenon of the earworm (thought it was called that in English): a part of a song that keeps on repeating in your mind. Well, it are summer holidays here in the Netherlands, so I don't have a lot on my mind and I think my brain has started to fill the empty spaces up with earworms. Since about a week and I half various song have been repeating over and over again in my mind, from waking up to going to sleep. It are mostly songs I've heard recently, but the Pokemon theme songs has flown by too , and this is getting kind of extremely annoying and rediculous, so I was wondering if someone knows a cure for earworms.
You're in control of your brain, right? Just tell it to stop. I do the same things with hiccups, and it always works.

Well. You could always try drugging yourself to oblivion. I hear it helps.
Alternatively, start micromanaging your brain. If the song is annoying, just force yourself to forget it. Works for me.
1st step: Throw "Epic Sax Guy" away from your bookmarks;
2nd step: Go to the nearest airport and listen to starting jumbo-jets;
