[Q] Missing Lock screen??? - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got my XZ yesterday and I have noticed that I no longer have a "lock screen". It was there when I first turned the device on and I have configured a numeric passcode lock but I do not actually get a lock screen any more, just a keypad that comes up over the top of the home screen. I only noticed this when I tried to change the lock screen wallpaper this morning.
Have I disabled something by accident or do I need to do a factory reset and start over? If so, how to factory reset?
Thx.

In the security settings choose the screen lock type you want.

Thanks for that. Obviously really! I was expecting it to be like my boy's Samsung where you swipe away the pretty lock screen then enter your Pin.
My bad!

it happened for me
thr s just one choice.
if u use up level security then low level security will disabled in xperia Z
if u set pin mode, then u won't have swipe mode anymore.
if u want swipe mode; u should clear credentials (NOT need factory reset)
it s a little problem i think in firmware that will fix in next update.
i have just pattern mode in lockscreen now

AFAIK it's been like this for as long as I can remember with Sony. Thus it's a feature not a bug and will not get "fixed".
AFAIK stock Android behaves the same. Would imply Samsung & Co. implementing it on top of the default behaviour.

of course NOT
thr s nothing like this on xperia S, xperia Arc/s, xperia Ion, galaxy S2, galaxy S3, htc one X and ....
i just didn check xperia T as xperia smartphone before x Z.
The Swipe mode should be availabe always to have lock screen widget SO it s not official to jump swipe-mode lock screen.

U wont loss anything if don have swipe mode lock screen

I didn't fully get what you wanted to say.
I for myself can only say I never experienced a 2-stage-lock screen in my 5 years with Android. I always had 1 lock screen, either simple swipe-to-unlock, pattern-to-unlock, pin-to-unlock or password-to-unlock and newer Android versions offer some on top of that like face-to-unlock and more. But I never had swipe-and-then-pattern-unlock or similar. Maybe we are saying the same, maybe not, as I said, I'm not sure I understood what you said.

[Q] Slide keyboard open to unlock?

The first thing i noticed from moving to the Droid 3 from my previous phone (Nokia N900), is that it doesn't unlock the screen when sliding the keyboard open.
So when i slide open my keyboard, i still have to do the 'slide to unlock' manually. This is not very natural to me, but if that's what Motorola decided, what can i do about it?
Is there some sort of tweak or mod possible for this, or is this something that cannot be changed? When i googled it, most topics are bout the Milestone series phones (this is the only qwerty android phone that behaves like this?). They suggested the software signal for 'slide keyboard open' is the same as 'press the screen on button', so if you want to disable the unlock menu here, it has to be disabled altogether.
Is this true?
I also come from a N900, I found the exact same thing frustrating, there is an app which disables lock-screens all together so you can also immediately unlock by pressing the power button.
App called "No Lock"
It does seem the case, yes, however there is an app which only turns lock screens off when the front proximity sensor is clear, so theoretically it shouldn't power button unlock when it is in your pocket - this is a paid app with a trial version.
App called "Auto Unlock"
If you're willing to pay for an app, check out widget locker on sale at Amazon. It has that option as well as some nifty extra features. I'm at the point now where my phone is more useful locked than unlocked lol
Sent from my DROID3 using xda premium
I don't think the keyboard opening sends the same signal as the power button.
When you press the power button the lock screen comes on in portrait regardless of how you are holding the phone. When you open the keyboard the lock screen comes on in landscape. So the phone knows the difference between the two.
BUMP
Is there any free app that will do this?
I'd like it to unlock when sliding open and to lock when i close it... but still be able to lock/unlock with the power button when I'm not using the keyboard
Thanks

I had an n900 too previously, but also an Xperia Mini pro and a desire Z, only the Motorola phones are showing that stupid behavior.
BTW as I wrote elsewhere, widgetlocker can fix this, but is not free.

I can't believe there's not a simple free app that fixes it. I don't mind spending €1,50 but I'd rather not
Can you keep the stock unlocker with widgetlocker?
how does widget locker fix this? i have it but dont see anyway to unlock the screen by opening the keyboard.

I just bought it and enabled "slide to unlock" but it doesn't work
I restarted my phone and it works 1 in 10 times.. and when it does work there's a 2 seconds delay..(edit make that 5 seconds this is with the screen off)
I even root mode and tried disable the default lock screen.
I think I just wasted €1.50
You must have some conflicting SW, I'm using it on the D3 and the D2g and works perfectly, used it on the Desire Z and worked perfectly too.
And consider that I have heavily customized it with 6 sliders to access directly the main functions w/o unlocking the phone.

I haven't installed any other locking software!
It works fine if I first click button so the screen goes on, then slide-out.
However when I slide from screen-off it takes 5 seconds for the screen to go on. (btw sometimes it does go instantly, but this is rare)
It takes a longer time only if you close and reopen it quickly.
Try to close the phone, wait five or six seconds and then open it.
That limit is described well on the SW instructions, and theres also a 5 seconds fix on the options (I havent tried it)

Yes but root option should fix it but it does not.
Why the hell would anyone use the slider option if it takes 5 seconds to show the screen? I wanted this program so that I don't have to press a button before unlocking... now I still have to do that
Waiting some time then opening it doesn't help

When I get my phone out of my pocket (screen is off) and I open my keyboard, it takes 5 seconds for something to happen.

I said that. If you close and reopen the phone quickly you can expect a delay, but not in normal condition.
I've just tested it with the verizon rom (I flashed it back to test the cyanogen), and while slower than the xt883 (all the rom is slower) surely doesn't take 5 seconds to unlock the screen.

[Q] Screen off app

Hi there,
im just searching for a simple app, that i can launch, which will turn off the screen, nothing more. Ok, now you say search the play store and you are right, there are plenty of them.
BUT all of them have the same problem: The screen goes off first, then back on and finally shows the lockscreen. But im just look for off, nothing more. Does anyone know an app which does work correctly?
Thanks!

I am using turn off the screen app without issues. I like it because you can change the shortcut label and has really polished look to the icon.

I have also used the lock screen widget, but it takes up more memory and the icon is not as nice:

Thanks for the input. Gravity screen off hast the same problem unfortunately. Turns the screen off, it flips back on and i see the standard sense lockscreen.

Yes, I'm on ViperOne. (Not ViperRom, confusing isn't it!)
I have seen the issue you describe in the OT but I can't recall having that issue in months. Not sure what it has to do with, could be a conflicting setting/config in the rom.
Try searching on that symptom to try and track down what causes it.
ViperOne allows you to set the volume down button to lock which is nice. Also a custom kernel like ElementalX will allow you to use the htc logo to lock/wake.

From what I gather, the OP wants something to turn the screen off and make it NOT go to the lockscreen but the home screen instead, but I don't believe that's possible to do without disabling the lock screen or using an app that does so?
Although, I take that back. It is possible using Gravity Screen if you enable the "Disable Screen Lock" feature as it allows you to turn off your phone without the power button and doesn't enable your screen lock (unless you said in your settings that you want to activate the screen lock right after the phone goes to sleep). I have mine set to lock on power button and automatically lock a minute after sleep so that way, Gravity Screen does not lock my device. Although, this isn't the solution you were looking for per say.

Not completely right. I just want to press a button/launch an app and my screen goes off and stays off. Nothing more. At the moment it turns back on showing me the lockscreen which i generally want to use, but i dont want to see it in this particular situation . I hope all clarities eliminated ...
On my old One X with Android 4.1.2 everything works fine with those screen off apps...

The first part is right . It just comes back on from itself, right after turning off in the first place. I dont press any button, the phone is doing this on its own.
(Launch the screen off app -> screen goes off -> screen turns back on -> shows lockscreen) -> after screen timeout screen off again -> stays off. This is what happens. The first part (in parentheses) happens in about 1 second of time.
Im using InserCoin with Sense and llama for automation.

And no screebl or something like this, screen on/off is a manual thing at the moment.

ATT Galaxy Note 3 won't change lock screen security methods?

I was wondering if anybody had noticed this.
When I change lock screen security from swipe to say "lock pattern", it does nothing.
It'll disable other lock widgets, because I guess in 4.3 or touchwiz you can't have widgets and lock patterns (but I digress).
The lock screen unlock will still be a swipe, no pattern.
Anybody else experience this?
Any work arounds?
Thanks.

That baffles me until I noticed I did not change the timeout for the Secured lock time to instant. Then I said to myself, this can be useful. Set Secured lock time out to 1 hour and use the password lock option. If I lost or displaced my phone, it will be password locked in 1 hour but if I use my phone constantly every 5-10 minutes, I still have the benefit of the easy to use slide to lock knowing that it is backed up with a password lock after 1 hours of no activity.
Then I try to repeat this on my old Sprint Note 2, Sprint Note 3, Samsung Note 10.1 2014 and I can't do it. Instead of a slide to unlock within the specified Secured lock time, I am greeted with a totally unlock screen. Which is really bad for butt dialing and accidental touch screen use since the screen is not protected by slide to unlock while it is in your pocket.
It seems this is a unique feature to AT&T note 3.
Try turning off the lock screen effect. I had this problem and I changed the effect from watercolor to none and that fixed it.

[Q] notification dropdown too sensitive

Hi, I have a problem with my sony z3 compact, the notification dropdown dropsdown often with a very light tap.
It's so sensitive that the notification bar drops often by itself by tapping apps buttons which are at the top of the screen (back in gmail, whatsapp etc.)
Try it for yourself by tapping lightly at the base of the "o" on the sony logo.
is this a hardware fault with my unit or does your z3 compact do the same?

I think it's meant to behave that way.
Do you sometimes have the problem where home screens, pictures, etc bounce back unintended when you swipe through them?

I made a video illustrating the issue:
http://youtu.be/YOXADb5NgPI
I suppose it is a software choice rather than a hardware one, however my samsung S4 and my old experia ray don't behave this way. You must slide the finger vertically over a portion of the screen to enable the notification dropdown, tapping would not automatically drop down the full notification screen. To me this sounds like a problem because it makes it hard to click buttons at the top of the screen most as of the time the damned notification menu drops down covering the whole screen.
I searched for an option under settings to change the notification settings but either I can't find it or there isn't anything to change it from tap to slide.
Regarding your question I'm not sure, I don't think so. The only issue I noticed (aside from the notification dropdown activated by tap (really annoying) is the camera:
If you set a lock option and unlock the phone by using the camera icon, and then you change the camera mode the phone locks itself again. Basically the 'unlock using the camera icon' let's you take pictures with the selected camera mode without unlocking the phone, but you still have to unlock the phone to use any other phone feature.

I'll need to check in the play store to see whether there are apps that let you change the way the notification bar is activated
It hasn't bothered me, so far.
Though I just checked on my Xperia Z2 Tablet and it doesn't behave that way on that one. Maybe the Z3C's touch screen is just too sensitive, as a side effect of the technology that makes the glove mode possible?

No it hasn't (but I need to pay more attention when using a single hand, will get back to you ). I tend to use two hands because, being the device so smooth I need to be careful and fight gravity quite a lot, I managed to almost drop it two times as it tends to slide from my hand

I have the same Problem with the sensitive notification menu... just lightliy tap anywhere close to it and it springs down and covers the whole screen. Coming from iOS where these things weren't even an issue, it's very annoying. It's currently the main reason why I want to try a different ROM.... Problem is I'm somehow unable to unlock my bootloader, and even then I'm not yet sure how to change the ROM. Damn, on iOS things were so simple... jailbreak tool, go to cydia, customise everything however I want....

Not sure if this will solve your problem, but you can check out All In One Gestures from the Play Store and activate tapping the status bar to do "nothing" by leaving it blank.
Edited: N/m, just tried it, didn't work. Still a useful app though! I'm using it for full immersive mode, so that's kind of another way to solve the status bar problem.

I gave it a go and it didn't work either, sony must do some lowerlevel tweaking to the notification bar.
I hope they fix it soon
Another sony dumb crap that I hate. It's so damn sensitive that it pulls down every time I use the phone to my ear. Sometime some quick settings activated and I had no idea wtf happened.
Dumb fuc.k sony is so annoying. Even my Z3C is rooted, I haven't found a way to disable this crap. Full of crapwares, cheap crappy glass and display, now this. Seriously all sony engineers and designers should just eat shi.t and die.
I thought I was alone in this. I've become fed up in call pull the phone away from my ear and it activates the pull down. Sigh.

Phone is automatically bypassing lockscreen randomly

I'm running lmy48i rooted. Project fi the whole time.
My phone is randomly, not duplicatably, unlocking itself in my pocket, or as I'm holding it. It's not a power button issue, as much as i want it to be. Ambient display is off
I've pulled the phone from my pocket with it unlocked in camera mode, having taken numerous pictures, no on screen buttons working because it's not "unlocked". I've picked up my phone and it unlock itself straight to the home screen, with a good 5 second lag before the lockscreen kicks in.
This happens with a pin code lock also.
I don't want to have to factory reset, as I'd rather pinpoint the problem in case it is indeed something I've done, so i don't replicate it after a reset and still have the problem.
Anybody have any ideas what i could look at for this? It's not always been this way, but it's so random, i can't pinpoint any changes or programs that i have that would be causing it.
I've searched my heart out, but all my searches come up with other related things and I've not seen any one with this specific issue
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Premium HD
Settings -> Security -> Smart Lock -> enter your pin -> On-body detection -> turn that crap off.
Personally, I use Trusted devices (BT smartwatch,) and can understand Trusted places. But I don't know who'd want to keep their device unlocked when it's being carried around, possibly by a thief.
Tried that also. I tried toggling it on for a while then back off to see if maybe that'd jog some setting, but it hasn't fixed the issue.
I've even disabled smart lock altogether to see if that would work, and it hasn't.
Edit
I've only recently enabled pin lock to make sure i wasn't in fact leg-unlocking my phone through my pants. But enabling pin lock, smart unlock or not, hasn't changed the situation.
