So I deleted tethering guard after I rooted my phone under the impression from some other forum that would allow me to tether freely. Well its quite the opposite, now when I go to the tethering app, it wont even attempt to turn on, neither will any other tethering apps. I found the tetheringguard.apk file online and attempted to re install it to no avail. I have tried, command prompt, this is the result;
C:\Users\RC\AppData\Local\Temp\Rar$EXa0.371\data>adb install <C:\Users\RC\Downloads>/<Tetheringguard.apk
Access is denied.
I have tried the APK installer app from the play store, it loads via Sim and when I click install it says "Application not installed"
Lastly I tried emailing the apk to my own email and opening it with my phone, that does the same thing as the APK installer app.
I am brand new at all of this stuff so please be patient, and thanks for the help
Also Im using holiday-dream-x2-Rom.
3rd party apps allowed
usb debugging is on.
Remount the system partition as r/w or download one of the ruu.zips and pull it from there

it wont install like a normal app because its a system app, you have to use a root explorer to copy it to the proper location and then make sure it has correct permissions.
Reflash rom, and only wiping dalvik and cache, and you will have it back.

is there any app that does this? it's getting annoying to use astro file manager, checking all the apps i want to install, and then still giving permission to each app to be installed. tried searching, but yielded no relevant results.
I don't know whether you can do it via graphical UI, but surely you can use ADB and simple shell script to install from your PC.
Code:
for APP in `ls *.apk`; do
adb install $APP
done
I think it's possible also from terminal emulator with similar script - replace adb with pm, but I didn't test this one.

Are you restoring apps after a wipe/reset? Try titanium backup, it does backups and every data off every app and just by doing a batch restore everything goes back to how it was previously

Android Commander can do bulk install, just plug in your phone whilst on normal mode, dont activate mass storage, and you can batch install - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597098
Perhaps even this app can achieve the same result - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585085
Droid explorer can do this easily
thanks, everyone! yes, this was because i installed a new froyo rom(chromatic 4.4).
it took awhile, but i got android commander working, and was able to install all my apps using it.
just having a weird issue now;
so, as mentioned, i used android commander to install all my apps. they all seem to have installed on the phone, however, and not on the SD card. i have "allow application moving" checked, and "install location" set to 'automatic'. i am able to move the applications 1-by-1 in settings > manage applications > downloaded, then clicking on the application, and then pressing "move to sd card". why aren't the apps being installed to the sd card? how can i move them all at once? i really don't want to move each app, one at a time. thanks
I have used SuperOneClick to root my phone, and am now trying to use it to enable non-market aps. When I do, I get the following message:
Checking value... (requires root)
Non-market applications are disabled.
Allow non-market apps... (requires root)
OK
Checking value... (requires root)

Can anyone let me know what I need to do to enable non-market aps?
Did you try a non market app Install to make sure it wasn't working?

Bro...same thing here. What I did was flash to just about any rom and the rom will allow to install non market apps. Also, on the market there is an app that allows you to install apps from the SD card. So you could go to getandroidstuff.com and download the .apk, put on your cappy, and use the app to install. But personally I like the ROM! Yee

Sorry, I never got an e-mail that I got a reply.
Yes, I've tried to download the new Amazon market but get an error message that I can't install non-market aps.
There is a second way. It involves tibu and a brain.
1. Find settings storage in an Sqlite editor, I use sqlite from the market, it costs money but it is worth it.
2. Find the database in settings storage and open it
3. Click on secure
4.look at the first column, find allow non market apps.
Change the value for the non market apps from 0 to 1
5. Save the database.
You may need to reboot but that shouldn't be necessary
If it is already a 1 then change it to a zero and save then do it again.
Also before you do this download the super one click again and try it with the newly downloaded one click.

Did you root using one click, then try that( i reccomend rageagainstthecage method)(on the right upper corner of program)
I just rooted again after boot looping. 1.3 and using Manual Nooter per instructions in that thread, fixed permissions in RM, USB debugging is checked. I'm up and running just fine, however I can't install Amazon App Store. I click on the .apk in the downloads of my browser and I get two choices to use, " App Installer", and "Package Installer". I try App Installer and I get "The application was not able to install onto your device. Please "Archive" and then "UnArchive" the application to try again. How do I "Archive" and then UrArchive" the application?
I try Package Installer and I get "There is a problem parsing the package".
I've reset and rooted numerous times because of boot loops issue, which I'm pretty sure I've solved, but every previous time I was able to install Amazon App Store.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Well I am not an expert by any means but it sort of sounds like a bad file have you tried deleting it and re-DLing it? You can DL it right onto the nook via email for example, Amazon will email you the link. If it's any problem other than that then it's way out of my league. Hope that works!
I've downloaded the .apk numerous times with stock browser and Opera Mini, and tried downloading it from the email amazon sent me with the download link. Same issues with all attempts.
Have you tried opening it with a file browser like Astro? Also try downloading the apk to your PC and then copy it to your Nook via USB, the Download on your Nook could be getting screwed up.
Also if you have ADB setup you can try running the command "adb install [insert apk filename here]" to try to install the Amazon Store.

Did you check the "Unknown Sources" box in Settings -> Applications?
I don't mean to be condescending, but you didn't mention it in the OP.
yes, unknown sources is checked. I figured out how to fix problem. I moved .apk's to system/app using Root Explorer and using Package Installer, they installed just fine.

I paid for it. There may some other file managers that you can use, but I just dropped the dough for Root Explorer.

For what it does it is cheap for $4. We need to pay for apps or else developers will quit building them.

Unless I am mistaken this does nearly everything Root Explorer does. At least I think I've heard that before. Having paid for and more importantly become familiar with Root Explorer, I have't actually tried it. But I do know it comes HIGHLY recommended.

Please Help - This doesn't solve my problem
Just rooted 1.3 again with both manual nooters. Everything is working fine now but I want to download Amazon App Store from The web.
It downloads fine but wont install - gives me a "your phone is protected" warning box saying that I should go to Settngs/Application and check the box to allow for outside downloads.
I DON'T HAVE AN APPLICATIONS OPTION UNDER SETTINGS. I had one when I was running cm7 - but not for a simple 1.3 manual nooter.
I have looked everywhere I can think of - can anyone help or have a work-around?

Thanks but I have not installed any rom yet.I only rooted.can I use the root explorer or Linda?will it work?
it will depend on the .apk, give it a shot, linda is free in the market. after you download your 3rd party app, open it with linda and see what happens if it tries to download but then you get an error at the end the app may not work for your phone/firmware.

If the app downloads but installation fails, usually its because the app requires a newer android version

Okay this feels really dumb, but I'm trying to install an .apk
Easy enough, right? I find the apk via a file explorer and click to install. Android prompts me to allow apks to be installed, I allow them. Then the installation starts. Its going well, but suddenly the Note 3 restarts and the apk isn't installed.
I've factory reset it a few times and tried multiple times. I'm running stock. build number JSS15J.N900AUCUBMJ5 and the apk I'm trying to install is from the humble bundle. (particularly Ravensword 2, Star command, but even trying to install other apps via apks cause my note 3 to reboot)

Make sure that allow mock locations in checked in developer options and unkown sources is checked in security settings. If those are both checked and it still doesn't work you can push the app into the system manually, I use ES file explorer. Retrieve your apk from downloads, long press and copy it, go into device/system/app and paste, change apps permission to rw-r-r. To change the permissions long press the app, then click more on the bottom right then properties/change the permission to rw-r-r. you must be rooted to do it the manual way.

I turned on Mock Locations in dev mode. Unfortunately my devices is not rooted, Although I feel like it should still install normally. I've checked the APKs and they work on an S4 and LG G2, which are both not rooted.
Is it possible i just got a defective phone? bad software? bad hardware?

What OS are the other phones running? 4.2, 4.3?
Try using APK installer via the Play Store

I'm running 4.3 on the note, and the G2 is running 4.2.2 but the S4 is running 4.3. Also I'm finding that I'm unable to install anything now, even from the play store.
