Good day. I had cyanogen 9 on captivate. I tried to make backup through recovery menu and it said it was done successfuly . But after that the phone cannot boot and i only see the boot logo that appears and disappears. The problem is that usb in my phone after service center repair works only like a charger. When i try to load recovery (volume up and down and power on) i see this image

Woah, first time I see this screen. Without a working usb, you can't do much to recover on the captivate. What did you do other than a nandroid?
If you can somehow get your usb to work, getting in download mode and using Odin KK4 (without bootloaders) would bring back your phone. Otherwise, you'd need to be able to get in recovery, wipe cache/dalvik and try to boot. If that doesn't work, restore your nandroid backup.

Thank you but now it is Ok. After 10 minutes of booting it surprisingly booted and i wary to turn the phone off now . The only thing i did is making backup in recovery and the phone said it had been done successfuly . After that the phone didn't want to boot.

about one minute and turns off and restart again with the same picture..
is there any problem ? i have the official rom of wm6, that it came with the pda!
Please, need help ..
should i send the pda to warrenty ?
Try taking out the batter and doing a power cycle. If that doesn't work, go for the hard reset (yes, all data on the phone will be lost). Do it the manual way by pressing the two soft keys, camera button, and poking the stylus in the reset whole all at the same time.
i have tryed that, power cicly, my batery have 100 % and i have discharging to 0%.. still nothing, hard reset.. nothing, i have tryed install new wm6.1 and nothing
the problem, is that the red letters and numbers of rom, radio ... won´t appear!
anybody knows this problem ?

Can you enter boot loader mode?
Press camera button and hard-reset
See if you get the tri-color screen with the SPL message
Then you can connect the phone to the computer and try to load a new ROM.
yes, i try install new rom but it doesn´t work, it stuck in smart mobility imagem :S
the problem should be the battery?
the power cycle is making by charging the battery to 100% or is there any thing to make like the notebook, that we go to bios and calibrate the battery ?
If you have tried flashing several different ROMs, and you are still stuck at the initial splash screen, then your only option may be to send your device in for service.
If you are able to get into the bootloader, then follow the directions located in this thread to revert your phone back to factory settings. Who knows, going through this process may get your phone back up and running again...
sent to warrenty.. :S
so my nexus shipped to me today and i power it on. at first it went it booted up fine i didnt get to play with it yet cause i had to go eat so i turned off the phone to let it charge.
came back to it later and turned it up and all i get is this :

after a few attempts with the same screen i decide to boot into recovery
[power down+power button]
HBOOT-0.33.0012
RADIO-4.06.00. 12_7
i then select recovery, after a bit it loads into clockwork mod recovery v5.0.1.0
so im assuming its not bricked or anything, but what seems to be the problem?
why is it stuck on the X screen with the "unlocked" lock icon?
-edit
an idea popped up in my head, so i put back the SD card tat came with the phone and it booted up fine to the home screen.
so im guessing the guy who sold the phone to me had his rom image booting off the sd?
would factory resetting the phone[wipe all] change this? so i can boot without the damn SD card?
It might've been that he had app2sdext running. I have never tried booting up without my sdcard in. Depending on how it was installed, a factory reset *might* help, but I doubt it (most app2sdext are put into the /system partition which a reset doesn't touch).
Your best bet is to probably just wipe the phone and start fresh with a new install. There are a lot of different options out there with ROMs, but the two most popular are CyanogenMod 7 and MIUI. Have a look at those and try them out.

do that....
Hi guys,
I have bricked my phone and would love to know if anyone has a solution to unbrick it. Love the SII but didn't anticipate upgrading just yet.
I have had a custom JVT ROM running on my phone, with EXT4 enabled, and decided to revert back to stock. So I went to the EXT4 app installed on the rom and clicked convert to RFS. The phone booted into recovery where it did it's thing, and then tried to reboot, but froze on the boot image for about 20 minutes. I rebooted it, but it did the same thing. I went into recovery to try to disable the lagfix there, but it wouldn't allow me to. I tried to wipe everything but said it couldn't mount /sdcard. I then tried to flash stock JVT with Odin, and it was not able to set partition, and from this point on I have only been able to get to download mode, both recovery mode and booting lead me to the phone and computer with broken cable screen. I've since tried flashing roms and kernels on my phone but it always freezes / fails.
If anyone has any idea what has happened, and how i can fix it, please let me know. Otherwise I guess I had better start saving.
Cheers, Robbo

Did you try to re-flash stock JVT with Odin and using a pit file? It seems that the lag fix wasn't disabled on your phone. My understanding is that if you re-flash stock JVT with Odin, with re-partition, that should remove the lagfix...

Yeah i tried that.. Over and over again. Nothing I did was working, and then finally, randomly, rather than freezing on set partition or downright failing, it decided it would proceed with flashing and is now working!! so moral of the story - just keep trying i guess. Wooo! Case closed.
Your sd card maybe damaged.

Hi,
When I bought the phone, the phone came rooted and it had something like CF-ROOT in the *about* of my phone. The phone did not come with a SD-CARD. The guy who sold me the phone reformatted the phone before giving it to me. When I tried reformatting the phone with "factory reset" from normal settings, it wouldnt reformat it for some reason. I went into recovery mode and when I did wipe-data/factory reset and wipe cache, a failed message would appear.
So I downloaded CyanogenMod 7 and flashed it going into recovery mode, there was a CWM title in the screen of recovery mode.
I hit install ZIP from SD Card. Then the phone boot, then I saw the Samsung Logo and the CyanogenMod on the screen and kept on rebooting over and over again in the Samsung Logo.
So someone told me to use Odin3. I flashed the latest firmware for my i9000 found on Samfirmware.com. Everything installed good and the phone did a reboot. Then went into recovery mode (and I did not see CWM title on screen anymore). It started installing something and then a error message trying to wiping cache appeared.
So I decided to reboot it again. but this time it stays on the Samsung Galaxy S screen and gets stuck there.
Then I used Odin3 to flash the Kernel Semaphore, but still no luck. My phone is still in the Samsung Logo screen. It doesn't reboot anymore but it gets stuck in the samsung logo now.
Here is what I see when I get into recovery mode:

i tried to install cm7 and it kept rebooting. i removed the sd card and and everything continued normally
Come to download mode and flash new stock firmware, through odin, does this happens !!!
Clean install stock first
Use this page: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846913
Download 2.3.5 version,
use odin to wipe phone, and install firmware using PDA, PHONE AND CSC files(with md5 extensions).
The detailed tutorial is mentioned in the post....
This will make the phone go back to stock 2.3.5 firmware...
If you want to use this, u dont need to do anything else, but if you need to root again, and load another custom rom, you will need to load clockworkmod.....and load another rom....
My suggestion: lets do the flash to go back to stock, we will carry on from there later....first see if the phone you've bought actually works or not....
I had the same issue, i just flashed a stock rom with ODIN with re-partitionned ticked and "PDA", "CODE", "PHONE", and "CSC" files.
It fixes the problem and then i could flash a custom rom
so i found some ancient thread about a "new" font.. decided to install it. didn't read the thread. well, now i have a phone stuck at the white ATT screen.
and if i hold volume up and power, the phone just keeps rebooting.. there appears to be no way to hard reset the phone (factory reset to factory state)
any ideas here?
this was not opportune to say the least.
so ****ed.

I got it under control. It was painful and i lost everything. If you tried to flash this KK font installer crap:
For those that end up at the white screen of death on a rooted, non-safestrap application:
you are going to be flashing the MJ5 with optional root.
Go ahead and follow the directions.. you might could sideload the sec_csc.zip and the 2400..zip now, or later. i did later.
1.) So hold vol down + home + power.. that'll take you to Odin installer or something.
2.) load up the tarballs into Odin, etc etc.
3.) heimdall
now at this point it's still going to whitescreen bootloop, so this time do power up + home + power and you can go to "update via ADB"
you'll need ADB tools already set up
sideload the two zips in the right order
they will install
reboot and you'll have a working, clean, rooted MJ5 rom.
and not a white screen
