[Q] Galaxy note, Questions - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sorry if anyone has post this already, but I'm a new owner of a Galaxy Note, but the user that sold it to me, let it with alliance rom, but however, it drains too much batery and its full of things that I really dont need, like 1000 lockscreens and the most features I dont use, Also it wasnt with CWM but with TW (I think that it is what its called) and now, I am scared to turn this phone into a brick (He is like a brick but I dont want to actualy brick him )
So my questions are:
-Can I install any rom right now? Using the steps that are mentioned on the threads?
- What rom do you advise me to, I dont want too many things, I want as stock as possible, without the botlware, and with the main features of the note 2 if it is possible
Thanks by the help

Flash whichever ROM you choose.
If your on alliance kernel it should be a safe kernel.
Wipe system data cache dalvik preload androidsexure first then flash the zip of whatever rom
---------- Post added at 07:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:17 PM ----------
Read about brickbug on stock ICS ROMs first...
If you're on alliance JB (not ICS) the kernel is safe. If you want to be extra safe you can flash philz first.
If you are totally clueless use mobile Odin from play store.

My alliance rom is the last one and my kernel is this 3.0.31-593490 and i'm on android version 4.1.2 is it safe? do you think that ultimate rom would be better than alliance?

Ultimate is kind of same thing...lots of customizations...
I personally use eybee's stock decodexed and apply his mods...then use titanium backup pro to remove bloat ware I don't want...
An option too is to add xpericle tablet mod ...
Your kernel should be safe to wipe from so long as when you boot to recovery it is twrp

Humm, i really dont want to go so far, like installing a lot of things, I just want a simple thing that works good, and has good batery life, then I'll use titanium too to remove things that I dont want, do you know any rom like that? I think I need to change the kernel before flashing that one that you said to me isnt it?

I would flash philz first personally...but that is preference...
Really you should just read all the ROM threads and choose the one you like best... it is personal preference...there aren't that many..
Just stick with a tw LSZ ROM if you want a Samsung based interfacw

And how can I flash philz? And what tw LSZ ROMS are you talking? I really dont understand those meanings and sorry if being annoying, but I really just dont want to ruin this phone

To flash philz you download the LSZ philz from the kernel thread.
You then reboot the phone and hold volume-up-power until it boots into recovery.
Hit install zip. Go to internal SD and then download folder and flash philz.
Now download the ROM and follow install instructions
TW ROMs are based on samsung stock interface. AOSP/AOKP/CM10.1 roms are based on a more pure Google android experience.
TW ROMs have many more features including the note2 features you want. Pure android based ROMs are faster but have less features.
Once you have philz installed you should follow the instructions in the Original post of that ROM thread
LSZ refers to the most recent Samsung official jelly bean release.
Ia glad to answer any question. PLEASE ASK THEM NO QUESTION THAT WILL STOP YOU FROM KILLING YOUR PHONE IS STUPID.
Before doing anything be sure to read the brick bug sticky thread so you understand how you can brick your phone.
Please hit thanks if I helped you.

And can I flash philz and still remain with the same rom or as I flash the philz I need to put a diferent rom? In the first time I just want to change my rom, so that its more easy to me, with the things that I have, the kernel and based on the rom that I have, what rom should I put in here now? I'll thank you if I get to know where is the button to hit

It's just the kernel you are flashing. It will not change the rom.
Phone will still boot and you can install a rom later after finalising one.

PhilZ TouchWiz based JB and ICS kernels
PhilZ-cwm6 Safe Stock Kernels
(developed by Phil3759)
Thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1901191
All PhilZ-cwm6 kernels can be found in this post.
Mirror download links are located in this post.
Latest: all kernels upgraded to v3.99 *new*
Is it this?
By the way, if I dont want to change the kernel ( I'm afraid that it can go wrong) What should be the rom that I put in my phone with this kernel that I'm using ?

When you flash a new ROM it flashes a new kernel.
Yes flash the LSz philz

There are a lot of them.. And all of them talk about CWM, but I dont have it, wont it affect it?
<< 13.03.2013 - PhilZ-cwm6 v4.88.2 with CWM 6.0.2.9 based recovery >>
XXLSZ-OXA (fixed for bootloop)
Is it this one that I need to flash?

assuming you are still on alliance.. yes thats the one

if you want a rom with good battery life and almost no bloatware at all, i would suggest using chasmodo's rom. but as mentioned above, choosing a rom depends on personal preferences.

You don't seem to be rooted and seem to be on a LA4 rom which is not directly rootable.
Follow this guide step by step to downgrade first and then root your rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Once you have root and CWM installed you can flash different roms.
Yeah you can flash the ICS repack via Mobile Odin Pro
Yeah before flashing a ICS rom you are advised to flash the ICS repack first.
You can flash ICS repack from the CF kernel or any other custom kernel but not with the stock kernel.
If you need to go to gingerbread you can download the GB rom and flash it in recovery. (before doing so just make sure of the kernel first...in some ICS roms the default kernel (recovery too) will not allow zips to be flashed...so you need to flash a different kernel (recovery too) before flashing a GB rom )
thank you so much.
as i stated this phone was traded to me
i do believe it is rooted tho...one way im sure of this is just i have SU access to everything also i have the CWM app installed on the phone. in the app it says the kernel is CF-ROOT 5.0
idk which kernel that is or if i have to change it to do anything else?
If you need to go to gingerbread you can download the GB rom and flash it in recovery. (before doing so just make sure of the kernel first...in some ICS roms the default kernel (recovery too) will not allow zips to be flashed...so you need to flash a different kernel (recovery too) before flashing a GB rom )
on this just so i know!
once i use the repack i can still flash GB roms without having to do some other type of repack? and are all CF root kernels flashable to any rom?
Well then you are good to go. You can choose the rom you want to go for. Read the instructions there (in the thread of that rom).....they will advise you to flash the ICS repack first so do that and flash their rom after wiping and clearing caches and dalvik.
Have a great roming day (lol i just made that up)
Cheers!! Hit thanks if it helped

Yeh you can use any GB roms. No repack of any other kind is required to revert to GB.
Just some change of kernels.
Thank you thank you and hit button couple times for you!!

Just make sure you are choosing the correct rom thread. Read carefully some roms will say its ICS themed...so those are still GB roms with ICS theme-ing over them.

Need Your Advice, especially sometime i don't understand everyone are talking about..

I'm a newbie in this forum. and also newbie with android, especially with samsung galaxy note.
accidently, i succesfully super bricked my new smartphone, which is samsung galaxy note i bought about 2 weeks ago, samsung galaxy note officially ICS stock rom LQ2.
i'm not quite understand with this kind of rom.
after met samsung service center, and thanks to my "sweet" talk, they agreed to replace with new phone even though i got exclamation mark.
-----
and thanks to dr ketan, i rooted my samsung galaxy note once again using fast way + notecore v12 .. and thanks to chainfire who make triangle away.
-----
after i read some threads in general. i'm kinda intrested with custom rom such paranoid from imilka.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802
but after i bricked my note last week, i'm kinda affraid to custom my note once again.
so I need your advice ..
i'm not understand with
DON'T flash FROM ANY SAMSUNG ICS OR ROMS BASED ON SAMSUNG KERNELS (my CM9, AOSP, etc) Flash any stock GB rom with odin / or any GB kernel [instructions] root device [instructions] and reboot into recovery once again before flashing this
Install Rom: http://d-h.st/I9m
Install HYBRID Gapps: http://www.paranoid-rom.com/index.ph...pps-hybrid.zip
Wipe caches, factory reset is a must if you're coming from another rom than CM9
If your statusbar is gone after the first reboot: longpress Powerbutton > Toggle Statusbar
Reboot and edit your Apps Dpi under Settings/Paranoid Settings/P.A.D. Hold the powerbutton to see the new fullscreen-togglebutton
ok now i want to ask :
my rom is official samsung ics + notecore v12 kernel. do i need to flash my note into stock gb rom? so if i need to flash into gb, which gb i must download ? dr.ketan give us an option to choose, directly rootable and non rootable directly. what is that mean?
which one should i choose ? and how about the kernel ? do kernel change after i flash GB stock rom ? or i need to change my kernel too ?
and if i need to flash other kernel ? which one is a good one kernel ? especially for custom rom like cyanogenmod9 or paranoid.
sorry for my bad english.
i need your advice.

Experimental ROMs are those ROMs which are not stable i.e. which are very buggy and have (sometimes) major issues.
Eg. Here and here
They say clearly that many things are not working.Don't flash these as a noob. We'll help if you run into troubles,of course, but its better to stay away until you learn more.
Anyways, I'd better say this before the lynching party gets here:
""PREVIEW DISCLAIMER:
This is a PREVIEW : CyanogenMod 10 is nowhere near ready to be used as a daily driver (lots of features still have to be merged)""

You should first install a hydracore kernel on your actual ics (but maybe it is no need), then flash the new jb rom lsz (the one you said) and after you can choose to flash or philz kernel (v 4.88.2) or speedmod kernel (k5-1). Both are goods! To flash all this, you just need a simple program called Odin
If you go in original android development section, you will find all that you need! Just read carefully the main threads, and all will go fine. There are also screenshots attached to the posts, so it will be more clear. Btw if you have some doubts, post here or pm me (sono italiano anche io )

Lol yes it's the same thing I thought about
Btw in that procedure, it may be safe, flashing the lsz rom directly without flash a safe kernel before, by odin ofc? Or we absolutely must flash a safe kernel before to flash anything by odin?

Nice dude
Glad it worked! If I can give you a personal advice:
Install speedmod kernel (actual is k5-1) using odin, download triangle away (actual should be 2.75.. Search it here on xda, by chainfire) install it and use it to remove the yellow alert triangle at the boot time (please read carefully how to use that apk). Now you got a safe kernel, root permissions and very good performance / stability. Ofc if you do that, you "temporarily" will lose the warranty (cuz of the root and the custom kernel). If you don't want, just keep your note as it is now
Regards!

I will keep that in mind... But i want to install CM10.1 in mi N7000, my cousin(he has a Galaxy S3 with Philz 4.88.5 and CM10.1) he recommended it to me... I really want the performance/interface given by CyanoGen Mod...
What do you think? Will CM10.1 + Philz Recovery give me a remarkable efficiency that i'm looking for?
Will you recommend my Hydracore Kernel?

You can't use philz kernel (I'm talking about our galaxy note at least) on any other rom than a Touchwiz based. So unfortunately you can't use it on cm10.1 :/
When I used a cm based, usually I kept the original cm kernel, Btw some of new kernels on xda are interesting! So maybe just try them
For now I'm on ultimate rom, and I'm planning to switch to another one soon (I'm flasholic...)

Read This thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002953
Someone in http://www.Taringa.net recommended me to use Crash Rom with Philz kernel ! And not only one person did that !
What Do You Think? I'm very confused about Android(Kernel/Rom/Recovery)...
PD: I really miss my iPod Touch 4g ! iOS it's heaven for me hahahaha
R: [Q] GT-N7000 Stock ITV Jelly Bean, Philz Or Hydracore?
But dude, that topic is about the galaxy s3 (i9300) and talking about a custom recovery (with few words, the menu from where you install new roms or wipe your note) and not about a kernel. Plus, Dev Crash left our note community some months ago, and his last rom is a jb leak rom Samsung, so I don't recommend you to install it. It's too much old now. Btw, if you wanna some advice about all this story (kernel recovery and other maybe) I advice you to:
First search for some already opened thread, and if you will not any answer to your questions, open a new thread
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Auch ! Sorry man ! I had a confusion !
But if you read the Thread there says that it's compatible with N7000... So, i can install Philz 4.88.5 Recovery on my Note !
Reading in the web i found a tutorial of the CM10.1 Official for N7000, i think i will use this ROM in my Note ! What do you think? Any advice?
In the page of CM i found the tutorial... I can't put the link here...
I'm think i will install... CM10.1 4.2.2(Nightly) ROM + Philz 4.88.5 Recovery ! Will this work?

You should first install a hydracore kernel on your actual ics (but maybe it is no need), then flash the new jb rom lsz (the one you said) and after you can choose to flash or philz kernel (v 4.88.2) or speedmod kernel (k5-1). Both are goods! To flash all this, you just need a simple program called Odin
If you go in original android development section, you will find all that you need! Just read carefully the main threads, and all will go fine. There are also screenshots attached to the posts, so it will be more clear. Btw if you have some doubts, post here or pm me (sono italiano anche io )
Edit: ops I just saw you're not Italian

I have a stock LSZ Note N7000 with philz touch recovery... I am not 100% sure but I mostly have the emmc brick bug.. I have decided to Factory Reset it and flash a new rom (As the rom installation procedure asks me to do so).. So my question is can I safely Factory Reset from Phillz touch Recovery.. And ..Which of the 2 following rom is better..

Yes, you can safely factory reset on Philz kernel :good:
2nd question is a wrong question to be asked here on XDA, as it is Best rom question. Also, I have not used both, so I cannot answer that question. Sorry

I am very sorry If I violated any of the rules by best I just meant a feature like comparission maybe like verus thing. Because their Features arent listed so clearly.. more so like someone to point out the difference beetween the two...
Look the paranoid android will be a stable ROM but you'll have more features in the other hybrid ROM. It's your choice. ROMs by beerbong are very good and stable
I'd personally recommend you the P.A.C. ROM also by beerbong. It has all the features you look in a custom ROM, AOKP, CM, PA. PAC ROM is the way...
Hi Varad297,
I would recommend that Rom too, currently using it on my ZTE Blade and on my HP Touchpad and love it.... I plan to upgrade my ZTE Blade to a N7000 come October and been asking a few questions as I am new to this beast (N7000 and all its bricking problems) but not new to Android...
I asked a question a while ago, but still waiting for it to be answered so perhaps you could advise as you know this ROM.
The N7000 I will be getting will come with Vodafone UK official stock JB rom, (Android 4.1.2 I believe). However i want to take it to PAC 22:40 (based on Android 4.2.2).
However I am confused as to which Philz recovery kernel I would need? And how (what to look for) in the kernel when choosing...? Philz seems to be the most recommended one, but there are so many to choose from....
thanks, Lister
You mean which Philz kernel you'd need to flash PAC? I flash my ROMs on the CWM recovery as i do not trust the Philz kernel doue to some problem while flashing certainAOSP ROMs on the CWM-based recovery provided with the Philz kernel. I'd rather suggest you yo flash ROMs on a CWM recovery like that which comes with the CM kernel.

if you are rooted you can add S4 and Note 2 features yourself (pretty easy) from Themes and Apps section. if you still want TW rom then you can try:

[Q] Problem with SpeedMod and Odin with my Galaxy Note (N7000)

Hi,
I've followed the guide to install the speedmod kernel on my Galaxy Note on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673072, using odin, but I have a problem: after Odin said that all was good, the phone is unable to reboot and for 5-6 seconds stay with the screen with the "yellow triangle" and then shut-down.
How can I solve this problem?Or come back to original kernel?
Please help me!!

You 100 % sure it was ICS? Install the rom you were on again using odin. Its will put back the original kernel. Just dont wipe while on ICS stock kernel.

I've check with my brother that has the same original rom (he has a Samsung S2)...and I discover that I had Android 4.1.2 that means JB! :/
Have I to install the JB rom with odin in the same way?
Thanks a lot for your help!

I've done what you said and ALL WORKS NOW!!
Thank you so much for your help!
Can you suggest me a good rom to install, without doing same errors!? (maybe this could be my last question! )
In this case you just have to flash the JB Speedmod kernel the same way you flash previous one. The phone is not booting because of having an ICS kernel on JB rom.

If you want all the Samsung features then check AryaMod rom.
If you are OK with AOSP, cm 10.2 or omni 4.4 are great roms. It's up to you to try and decide which one suits you the best.
This time for rooting and cwm, use Philz kernel. Methods and explanation in his thread in the Original Development Section.

Sure, I'm very ok with AOSP and I was thinking about cm 10.2!
Please, clear me up if first of all I have to install the Philz kernel or the rom cm 10.2! (that wasn't the last question! )
First root using Philz kernel.. Then back up your efs folder. Then flash the rom or your choice. Custom rom can only be flashed using cwm recovery.
AryaMod v3 is very good and smooth stock LTA based TW rom. I'm on it since it was issued. As the owner set v4 will be issued in few days. You can try it.
