Been there, mate. If you're comfortable with flashing via Odin, replace the stock kernel with one of these. I'm currently using hardcore's SpeedMod with very good results. Next, consider replacing your current modem package with one of these (not sure about their respective band support, so please tread carefully!).
Lastly, try some power saving apps, my recommendation would be CF's "Super Power" available from the market. Good luck!
PS: Some more advice to be found here.

Helllloooo there i see u are really newbie here anyways
My advice to u is read and read and read a lot
flashing official and custom rom is easy as pie but ... u have to know what u are doing
i advise u to read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
its a real help guide to all u need to know about our phone
anyways ... first use a software named odin to upgrade your phone to gingerbread ... its easy to use and some say even safer than official upgrade from kies
than flash that rom from a custom recovery!
you will have not hardware malfunctions
in time you know the difference in roms, what to do, how to do!
but until then ...
google
youtube
and that guide i gave u are your best friends!
keep up the good works anything ...
just ask
take care!
LEWA ROM suggestion
First advice as already given read a lot.. ..as informed first upgrade to ginger bread and then get a custom ROM for your phone.. I use LEWA ROM one of the best and stable..It has also got official support and every friday there is an update with improved features and bugs....
Dont be scared just be confident... on XDA we all are here to help!!!
Enjoy!!

there is no such thing.
And why don't you try it for yourself? you will get to experience it first hand. And if your scared then don't use odin or cwm or even rooting because there are always risks involved in these.

The SGSII v8.1 patch u r talking about is jst a patch for the COmplete v8 ROM. it has recently been updated to v9 and it really is a gud ROM the Battery life is also better in the LAtest Release and it is almost stock based so u won't find A WHOLE LOT of UI changes on your ACe jst additions, and the PErformance is also gud.
other than this, you can try the MIracle ROM it is also a wonderful ROM bt as it is performance based, u can't expect a battery life of 1 day
As you roam around the forums you will learn slowly by trying and testing stuff.
Ohh and ACTUALLY, there is NO perfect ROM

I9000 boot charge animation

Hi everyone,
does anybody know how to change the animation which you see when you plug your charger in and the phone is off? I have recently moved onto ICS rom and noticed this issue. Have been trying to find some info on google and in these forums but cant find anything helpfull. i have already tried several different kernels but still no joy. Can anybody please help me on this. I really like this rom and don't really want to go back to GB rom.
P.S. nearly forgot, if I plug the phone to charge while it's off and try to swith it on - it doesnt react, i have to unplug it, remove battery and reinsert it and only then it starts up.
Hey
Thats probably not changeable...not sure why..but i didnt really see it different in any official firmwares or on roms..
Cheers
If my post helped, dont forget to hit the thanks button..

that is the thing that it does change it. on GB roms the animation is working fine, on this ics rom it's just still with that loading symbol in the middle of battery icon . i want to fix this but cant seem to find any info how to do that. some people say it's in kernel, others say it's in bootloader and recently i found a forum in which somebody told that there should be a hidden folder in root (.lfs i think) but it's not there. i really can't believe nobody knows how to sort it.
Am I the only one having this issue?
anyone?
On which ics rom is it not working...??
Cheers

What?at the rom thread? If that's the preferred then we better not call it dev thread but q&a thread.
This question is already been answered many times,I agree you shouldn't make a new thread

Being new doesn't mean you can't search...
Try wipe battery stats,if it doesn't help try to remove unnecessary apps, try to use some task killers(I don't suggest it though),try to change some settings.if battery drain its a known bug of the rom, wait for an update and/or meanwhile try another rom
If nothing helps, there may be problem with your battery,or there isn't any actual battery drain and you just expect too much from your phone
Sent from my X8 using Tapatalk
Probably, there is something that is keeping your phone awake. Get Better Battery Stats, charge fully and then don't touch your phone for a couple of hours. Then, expand the first list and go to partial wakelocks. There you can see which app is keeping your phone awake and for how much time.
Its obviously you are using 3g data, it drain your batter if every time you used it.

[Q] Good rom and good karnel

Hey guys,
I have a question. I just repaired my phone and im now on 2.3.6 , a would like to know that i can just install new rom with 4.1.2 via recovery mode or i must update phone or something?
Question number 2.) Does anyone know for good rom which is stable and saves battery, i don't need so much performance on that phone.
Question number 3.) What does karnel affect on? Which is base mission of karnel? Which kind of karnel is good for me since i need stable in long battery life? How do I flash karnel to a phone?
Thansk for the answers
