Today, after my XZ fall of my nightstand on the carpet, my backscreen broke.
Does anyone know how I can get the screen out, and a new screen in?
Hope someone knows it....

Daaaaang... I think ure the first one who achieved a broken xz
I'm sorry, did you say backscreen? Does that mean the glass panel on the back, or something behind the screen? I've just never heard that term before.
Also, you mentioned... falling off a nightstand onto CARPET?
how could that have possibly broken anything, given the videos we've all seen of the XZ dropping on far worse?
Don't know why it broke, think landed just wrongly...
Its the back case,
Sorry, it's not clean, just wiped the broken corner....

Really cool video, can't believe the back would break landing on carpet, at least it looks easy to replace
Did you replace your glass?
or has anyone else had the back open and could perhaps comment on the technique, temperature needed ( it looks like a hairdryer rather than heat gun in the video) , how and where does the glass adhere? etc
thanks

Hello,
Well , I have a big problem with my SGS at the moment , the problem is that my screen is defect. Well , the screen still works as it should(touch , thank god) but I has alot of big scratches.
Believe it or not , but I dropped my sgs like 3 times before on 1 meter height on hard underground , It survived without scratches , btw I dont know if it did land on the screen so maybe thats the reason why my screen survived before. But today i was sitting and I had the phone in my pocket and when I wanted to stand up it dropped out of my pocket on the ground , from 0,5 meters height on a soft floor(carpet) but I discovered those big scratches and I was shocked
/Now the important part , is there any way to repair this???
By putting new glass on the screen or something? Maybe there is someone who experienced the same and knows how and where it got repaired?
Thanks in advance,
Picture of the state of my screen in attachments , sorry for the vga webcam quality.
Looks like the glass got shattered.
There would be no way to fix a Crack or a Scratch. You will have to replace the Digitizer and Display.
Dude, that's why you should use screen protector on it.

'Defect' LOL. My car was 'defective' after I wrapped it around a telephone pole.
Would a screen protector prevent a shatter like that? Perhaps to a limited extent but I though they were mainly for scratches.
I do my SGS bareback. No significant scratches yet, I think last time I cleaned the screen up and looked really close I could see one tiny line.
I've dropped once onto pavement (dented the bezel) and once on a wood floor (flew out of my hand as I whipped it out and bounced across the room lol).

But who cares?

You could try and replace it yourself which is probably cheaper or you can ring samsung and tell them what happened and have them replace it/send a new phone for you. Obviously it would cost you.

Very sad to hear that loss...

Well just replacing the glass is not gonna work because the touch digitizer and the glass are like one. So you,ll have to buy it completely new. Also its not easy to replace it. Its glued together. Youll need to be handy.
If your buying off ebay make sure its an amoled screen. Alot of lcds on ebay.

Hey guys
So i cracked my touch digitizer and decided to chance it myself.
I have taken some pictures of the phone disassembled.
So if anyone is curoius to see the inside of their phone, here it is...
If there is something you want a closer look of, just tell me and i will take a picture.
I haven't put it back together yet, cause i didn't know you needed some special tape to mount the digitizer...
Pretty neat. I rember taking my Nexus One apart. I got the digitizer and screen together. Didn't want to deal with the tape/glue aspect.

Great job!
I was in the same shoe as you. Mine was a badly cracked LCD while the touch screen didn't even have a single scratch. Don't ask how I did it
Dismantling the LCD and the touch screen assembly was the toughest part. Seems like all newer and slimmer phones are using glue to fix their parts together. A nightmare for DIY.
I used normal double sided tape to put mine back together. Seems to be holding well so far. However, I am still looking around for better alternatives. Let me know if you find one!
I love my INCS!
could you make close-up pics from the bottom leds that are being used?
im actually thinking of replacing them for blue or orange
Was it hard to do because I have some dust under my screen and maybe give it a try.
How did you manage to crack the gorilla glass??
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Yeah, i'm gonna try to replace my digitizer as well, i'm kinda scared to pull the screen & digitizer apart... I've read that you can heat it up using a hairdryer and that the glue will get loose, but i'm not sure if i have the guts to heat my screen up
So how did you manage to get the screen off?
Don't think it is worth the effort and risk to just get rid of a few dust particles.
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App
Guys, using a hairdryer f***s the phone up. You don' need lot of time to overheat any metal parts and circuits and stuff break...
You think it isnt that hot, but works the same way like when u are in the sauna and your necklace burns your neck when it hangs apart from your body for a couple of seconds.

I'm afraid i cant to that. I'm afraid of braking it when removing the tape wich is on it. The button "display" is 0,5 mm thick or so. Im not even sure it is possible to replace them.

After removing everything on the back i was able to push at the back of the screen in the top of the phone, and then get a little plastick tool in and pulled it of.
Its quite hard to pull off but the glass was already cracked so i just pulled a bit hard.
I was a little bit more carefull with the LCD. Its also quite hard to remove. Just took my chances and hoped the glue would give in before the LCD craced
Cool story bro, I always wanted to know what's inside!

Remove the screen protector that comes factory fitted with the phone. I have done that with all my xperia phones and it makes the screen miles better. Furthermore, I have found that it does not attract as much dust

I've been taking a can of dust off air to my phone like twice a week. Especially around the bevel... works well.
I now have the same problem on my new Pixel 7 Pro I bought like a month ago. It's screen is dusty whenever I get it out of the pocket no matter what pants.
Searched everywhere and can't find anything useful. My first guess is some kind of static electricity. I've tried:
• anti-static screen cleaner
• letting the battery die and keep it uncharged for like half a day.
• a bunch of different jeans/pants
• even tried vaccum cleaning my pockets and trying to pick up anything that's impossible to see with human eye by a lint roller and duct tape.
Putting on a screen protector film or tempered glass would be my last resort.
After 30 minutes in pocket it looks like this. It's really embarrassing when I have to get it out in front of other people. Also attaching a photo of my pocket so you don't think they are messy or smth.
I went out tonight to a movie. I put my phone in my pocket when I left the house, took it out once to put it on vibrate at the start of the movie then took it out of my pocket again when I got home. The phone was the only thing in that pocket, so it's not like it was up against my keys or anything.
The phone was intact when I put it on vibrate so while it was in my pocket at some point during the movie or the ride home is when it got cracked.
It seems that the part of the glass that's cut out for the loud speaker got pushed in enough that the glass around it gave way and shattered. I don't remember bumping it on anything or it being jostled in any way, just a typical movie and drive home...
I have insurance on it through Tmobile but I may try and call LG directly first to see if they will do anything considering I didn't drop it or really abuse it in any way that I can think of...
So let this be a warning to you if you have one, be careful about that part of the phone. Maybe be careful to put it facing screen-side-out in your pocket so the back speaker cut out can't be bumped...
The glass around the speaker grill is entirely shattered with cracks spider webbing from it to all 4 corners of the screen. The cracks going to the top are hard to see in the pictures, but their there.
Anyone have any comments or suggestions about contacting LG, or anything else about it?

How the hell did that happen in a pocket? Hmm
I don't think that the backside of the phone is made from gorilla glass, only the screen. But you still should contact LG, because no way it should blow up like that.

I was babying this phone as much as possible, it was the only thing in that pocket and I made sure not to use it when over cement or anything in case it did fall.
But this happened while it was INSIDE my pocket, I even had to empty some of the glass shards out of my pocket when I noticed what had happened...

Haha, no skinny jeans, and it was in my front left pocket.
There was no stress at all that I can think of. When I took it out of my pocket at home to text someone the back felt rough and I thought something was on it, but when i turned it around to look I saw it all cracked. I was 100% surprised to see that considering how I had babied it all night and I didn't even use it the entire night.
There was no case because none are sold yet. When I bought it the store said they would be getting the cases (bumpers I guess) in stock next week, I was going to call them Monday to see if they had any yet, and I still will but I don't expect them to get any until mid week.

Front pocket, and no sitting on my side, just in a movie theater seat then my car seat.
I wish I could just "not buy" it too, but it happened....
Like I said in my first post, it looks like a typical crack you would get from tempered glass when the stress point is hit, and it looks like around that speaker cut out is a stress point. The thing is, it wasn't hit, bumped, dropped, or anything else like that.
If you were the insurance company or LG I would understand not trusting me, but why do I have to gain by not telling the truth here?
Chances are you can just exchange it under warranty, not insurance.

Yea you're right to be careful, my S3 was supposedly scratch resistant, scratch tested with box cutters etc yet still got a huge load of scratches on the screen. Apparently sand/dust in your pockets is the cause (has to be, never dropped it or anything)
I don't know why these videos exist, they test objects that everyone knows will not scratch the screen,
Metal is softer than normal glass, let along toughened mobile phone glass.
Most people do not realize that. My mother for instance puts paper towels on her counter beneath wood cutting plates so the wood doesn't scratch the stone. lol
Plus, there are people here that are complaining about getting magical scratches and breakage.. It would be good for them to watch...

True ... bus has we have soooo many people in here complaining that the phone scratches by himself ... without any object at all ... this test seems fair to me.
The conclusion is ... please fill your pockets with keys, coins and the nexus4 ... it will be safer than to walk with the phone alone in the pocket ...

Isn't it a little contradictory? These videos can't scratch either the back or the screen. But here, people are having scratches out of nowhere. This confuses a potential buyer (like me).
What should I do? Should I buy one?
They're not getting 'scratches out of nowhere' they just don't know how they did it.
Little tiny bits of grit will scratch any bit of glass.

Dust particles or sand make the most scratches from what I can tell. I think you should buy it, I will when I have the chance.
But I'll also get a satchel or something I can keep it in.
