what's in the 4.1.2 update? - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone updated to official 4.1.2 over the air today (Brazil), I've read that the mini would receive the same premium content from the S3 update but couldn't find any of those features, was that information false? I'm having a hard time trying to find the answer around the web and maybe the content change for different regions, but what's different in your 4.1.2 compared to 4.1.1, fellow xdas?
Here the only noticeable changes are: the number for android version in settings and the notes widget changed from yellow to blue. yay!
new view modes in gallery - not here
new apps - none
customize power widget in settings - nah
galaxy note 2 style sidebar - what?
nada

Of course there are tons of blogs and websites saying that our phone got the premium suite along with thr 4.1.2 update: false. If we're ever going to get it (and I hope so, I'd be veeeery disappointed by Samsung if the don't release it) we have to wait for a major 4.2 update!
However I have the screen capture button in video player!

Cool Reader what is going on?

Hi,
Today I installed Blackmart Alpha on my Nook, and I saw a updated version of Cool Reader (3.1.0-19), you can find it on here. However on Google Play, the newest version is 3.0.57-15, updated long time ago. Does anyone know what is it? I cant even find the devs web page, only the engine's sourceforge.
It has redesigned UI, better in my opinion, however I am unable to get into "Reader's Options", when activated (middle-screen press), in blinks black, and goes to books list. On my phone it shows options like search or open file. Anyone knows how to fix it?

You have to wait, it's a beta version so it's still unstable, i have already signaling the bug on the official topic on mobilereader, let's hope it will be fixing soon
Thre's only one thing missing in CoolReader - a good library (diffrent types of sorting and view, shelves, monitoring specific folders etc.). As far as I'm concerned, reading features and options are amazing!

This. If I really want to be picky, I'd like a 12 hour clock option too, though.

[Q] Back to Andriod 4.1

Hi!
Xperia Z came with Andriod 4.1.2 If i remember it correctly, this version worked really good. I recently upgraded it to Android 4.2.2 and now its laggy, slow and has alot of bugs.. The camera got black spots which according to some posts are software related - I don't see how that is possible but ok.
So my question is: If I factory reset the phone from the menu, do I get andriod 4.1 back?

Slow = depends completely of what applications you have installed, the default stock rom => no lag here so maybe something haven't worked correctly during your update
Camera bug => it's answered on your thread, the black stuff seems to be the dust inside the camera lens, return your phone for repairing. http://talk.sonymobile.com/message/489865#489865

List of common problems with Galaxy tab S 10.5

Hi
I am researching about this tablet (galaxy tab s 10.5). What problems have you experienced? or what big common problems the community has with it?
From now I know:
1. lag (a lot of people, with some apps)
2. battery (just a few)
anything else? how about the memory issues or any other thing?
thanks
Indeed lag in chrome. And also that some apps or games may not work due to the 2k screen resolution ( not a lot)

If you are rooted, look at my stock rom, almost all lags are gone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/development/prerooted-stock-touchwiz-rom-t2973107
1. Lag in apps like chrome (only some).
2. Aura screen defect ( when screens have greenish color on black image.)
3. Bump in on back cover(seems to be fixed on new models)
4. Overheating near camera( when playing large apps).
5. SD read and write problems(kitkat issues. Can be fixed by rooting)
6. Touchwiz launcher lag. ( can be fixed by debloating and installing nova launcher)
7. Latest twrp recovery bootloop. ( crashes and bootloops when restoring rom . Version 8.3.1.0 or some sort.
System UI crashes when casting to chromecast
I didnt knew at all about the Aura screen defect. I read the opposit, that everything about the screen is really good and black is really black

Some batches of tablets had messed up amoled screens. If it doesn't show complete black on a black image then that's how you know. Only happens to a few numbers of amoled tablets/phones.

This was fixed in newer firmware.
The only issue is typical Samsung running too much software all the time and just needs to be tweaked accordingly.

I bought two and they both have the non uniformity problem. Either I'm unlucky or it's more than a few.
the lag in chrome is due to java script. Disable it, lag is gone.

Unfortunaately this update doesnt seem to have been released in the UK yet.
I check for updates every single day. But nothing.
Even the samMobile website does not show a UK version of the latest firmware.
and how you can check fastly about the non uniformity problem with black??
I mean, if you go to a shop, how you can check it easyly before buying? just take a pic in black and watch it?
or there is any other way to check it maybe with the serial number or something? so you can buy on the internet

Taking a picture in full black can do it and see if there are any other colors that is not black. I got mine from Walmart online and no problems so far. If you buy it in store from bestbuy, you should open the box and check first.

Open anything is black or dark grey and ask the shop that have store room, close all light and check inside.
^^^ it'll not show on black because all the pixels just turn off. You need a dark gray screen.
I don't see how you can check it in the store. Looking at the demo unit will tell you nothing definitively. Also, I don't think it's reasonable to ask a department store to turn off the lights for you You just have to find a store with decent return policy.

which firmware my 10.5lte still crashes when i pull down the notification panel?
I have none of those problems, like lag in Chrome (my Chrome is the snappiest of browsers, so smooth) or battery (battery is just damn amazing, 12h SoT watching videos).
But, my bluetooth stopped working randomly. Like, it won't ever turn on again, not even in safe mode. The icon becomes dark green for a couple seconds, then it gets grayed again.
I saw someone else with the same tablet having the same issue, but that's about it, no one else.
My one big gripe, and this really is more about Android than the S 10.5, is that there isn't ONE definitive web browser that does it ALL. It also seems that when I DO find a decent browser it's not very long before someone changes their forum software or the web page coding and then it just won't work as well or at all. I have actually given up trying to post on some forums with any Android web browser. They all now seem to have one problem or another with forum editors used for posting. Maybe, somehow Lollipop will fix this. Kinda doubt it though.

Hello, I'm an user of samsung galaxy s5 Korean variants G900K and last night, I updated my phone to MM and if you guys want to know what has been changed in the new version of the firmware, I will write a list of the change log I found.
1. the app icons are changed into 5.1.1 one except the internet app and SystemUI is same as last version. none of things are changed.
2. When the application requires some permission, you can make a decision whether you allow the permission or not.
3. when the screen changes like closing apps, opening apps, etc... there's an effect zoom in and zoom out
4. when you turn on/off your screen, like galaxy note5, there's an fade in/out effect from edge of the screen to center
5. the multitasking button's responding time has been reduced.
6. the smart manager application have a widget to clean ram and storage.
Finally, the fingerprint scanner's scanning speed is increased and every time you reboot your phone, thought you have set the fingerprint lockscreen, you have to enter the backup password once.
These are what I've found and there might be more than these. Sorry for bad English cuz I'm Korean so my main language isn't English....
