Hey Guys! Just needed a bit of help. Is it safe to flash a gn cf root kernel on stock or custom ICS rom?? Like, will I be safe from the superbrick bug if I flash a gb kernel over an ICS one? Any Help will be appreciated! Thanx in advance!
P.S I am sorry if the question is asked before..
its hit and miss really, Some users report that CF root kernel is safe, others say its not.
One kernel confirmed to be safe is Abyss
They have one for GB and one for ICS

So if I flash Abyss Note kernel, I am safe from the superbrick bug? But won't the device be already damaged if I flash stock ICS? And also if I use factory reset from recovery or other superbrick commands, will my device get damaged? Sorry for the Q's!
If you flash an Abyss GB kernel for stock ICS (or ICS at all) it won't boot (or give a lot of errors IF it does).
Just use Speedmod or Franco kernels for stock ICS. They are safe.

You are never completely safe from the superbrick, But with abyss, and as said above speedmod (what i use) the command that causes the brick is disabled, So providing you only ever do a full wipe on a KNOWN SAFE KERNEL you will be fine.
There are a few safe kernels now, Im unsure of them all as ive only ever used speedmod & abyss, Feel free to use another one, Just be sure to check if its safe or not.
The bug is in the chip, But the command to trigger the bug is in the ICS kernel, Hence why GB is the ultimate safe option.
Thank you very much guys! I guess that I'll stay on GB till a stable ICS comes out!I really wanted to try the cool mods for ICS! But are you sure that if I use speedmod Wiping or Restoring won't brick my note?
Well no can can confirm 100% that you wont get a brick, Although the chances of that happening on a safe kernel is minimal.
As with all modding you do it at your own risk, I can confirm i have successfully done a full wipe in CWM using both SpeedMod and Abyss kernel, So have 100's of other users too ! So you should be fine
I had doubts at first, So i upgraded to ICS via ODIN without wiping, never had any issues.

Abyss kernel and CM9 ROM
thanks a lot every one.... a lot of info floating around...
but there a re a few questions im not sure about.... i hope if you can help answer them....
1. i checked my GN ICS 4.0.3 rooted stock and it has the chipset known to have emmc bug issue.. so now if I flash using the abyss kernel it should be fine. But do i need to flash it with a ICS ROM only or can I flash it with a pre rooted GB ROM as well?
2. I understand there are two versions of Abyss Kernel. One for ICS and one for GB. Which do i install if i plan to move to GB from ICS official stock? and vice-versa?
3. Is it safe to directly move from rooted stock ICS 4.0.3 to CM9? using Abyss kernel?
4. Just one las thing. When we flash a kernel like Abyss to ensure non bricking, does it mean that the new ROM would use the same kernel (Abyss) ? or would it install its own kernel? For example if i flash Abyss and then flash CM9 ROM, will CM9 use Abyss as the system kernel or will it install its own kernel?
Sorry for asking soo many dumb questions, but i want to get my facts right before i flash.
Thanks in advance.
Just flash abyss kerne if u want flashing any rom with CWMR..
Gb kernel cannot used in ics rom for daily..

azzle, are you sure there is an abyss kernel for ics too ? everyone says abyss is meant for GB only ? where is the original thread please ?
here you go...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362424
read all on that thread bud before you do some actions.
Abyss is a gb kernel, it's useful for doing quick flashing under ics as it's already rooted with cwm baked in. But yeah, I you can't run a ics rom under abyss, but you can install abyss, run wipes, then install ics rom and kernel all in one.

Hi Friends,
I flashed my SGN N7000 with stock ICS rom XXLQ2. I noticed in the xda forum stock ICS rom has a e_mmc fault and can be cause heard brick.
Could anyone suggest me a safe kernel which I can full wipe/ reset facrory and all other recovery options without any fear.
I'm looking forward your earlier response since me new to this android..
Kind Regards
Speedmod or Abyss are known to be safe.
Any 2.3.5 kernel is safe.
Go to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Download a GB 2.3.5 kernel, and you got yourself a brand new phone. Did the same 2 days ago to go to Paranoid Android ROM v0.4. Can recommend this, I'm very happy with it.
To do this check out this tutorial by me here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5K5Wm_201Y&feature=plcp

I can recommend the Goku Kernel. It's based on Speedmod but comes with a few extras like additional cpu governors... And even the latest beta is stable. What's more funky81 is actively developing his kernel.
By the way because it's based on Speedmod the emmc bug is fixed or more precisely circumvented.

Yes, you can flash any rom if you are on hydracore or any other safe kernel like speedmod.
After flashing new rom make sure to check the kernel in it, most of the custom roms have safe kernel now but if not then immediately flash safe kernel after flashing new rom.

I need wipe all data before flashing custom rom right? So do i need reinstall supersu busybox, titanium backup all those apps?

Yes, wipe is requied for clean instal. No need to install supersu or busy box after flashin custom rom using cwm as custom roms will be obviously rooted, just check and update supersu if required via playstore.
But yes you have to install all other non system apps downloaded from store or sd card.
Better backup all downloaded apps using titanium before wipe.

I just flash "Crash Rom" under Hydracore Kernel but when I done flashing "Crash Rom" my kernel version become N7000XXLRK-CL811902. Is that safe for me to flash hydracore kernel again under that rom? If i want changing rom i can wipe data through that kernel(N7000XXLRK-CL811902) or better on hydracore?

Crash rom includes CF-Root XXLRK kernel by default (as the latest version is without aroma I guess), that's why Hydracore was replaced by it (N7000XXLRK-CL811902)
CF root kernels are safe to wipe but are not 100% safe to flash roms using cwm, look here. Yes, you can flash Hydracore again.
I suggest flashing HydraCore (former NoteCore) kernel before performing a full wipe / flash.
Flash HydraCore kernel.
Reboot recovery.
Perform a full wipe (manually format /system/, too, if you come from TW and want to flash CM, for example - I've had troubles with that).
Flash your desire ROM.
Also, HydraCore works on all ROMs : TouchWiz, MIUI, CM9, CM10, AOKP, ParanoidAndroid... everything . And HydraCore is the kernel I'd reccomend for general use, anyway .

You should first install a hydracore kernel on your actual ics (but maybe it is no need), then flash the new jb rom lsz (the one you said) and after you can choose to flash or philz kernel (v 4.88.2) or speedmod kernel (k5-1). Both are goods! To flash all this, you just need a simple program called Odin
If you go in original android development section, you will find all that you need! Just read carefully the main threads, and all will go fine. There are also screenshots attached to the posts, so it will be more clear. Btw if you have some doubts, post here or pm me (sono italiano anche io )

Lol yes it's the same thing I thought about
Btw in that procedure, it may be safe, flashing the lsz rom directly without flash a safe kernel before, by odin ofc? Or we absolutely must flash a safe kernel before to flash anything by odin?

Nice dude
Glad it worked! If I can give you a personal advice:
Install speedmod kernel (actual is k5-1) using odin, download triangle away (actual should be 2.75.. Search it here on xda, by chainfire) install it and use it to remove the yellow alert triangle at the boot time (please read carefully how to use that apk). Now you got a safe kernel, root permissions and very good performance / stability. Ofc if you do that, you "temporarily" will lose the warranty (cuz of the root and the custom kernel). If you don't want, just keep your note as it is now
Regards!

I will keep that in mind... But i want to install CM10.1 in mi N7000, my cousin(he has a Galaxy S3 with Philz 4.88.5 and CM10.1) he recommended it to me... I really want the performance/interface given by CyanoGen Mod...
What do you think? Will CM10.1 + Philz Recovery give me a remarkable efficiency that i'm looking for?
Will you recommend my Hydracore Kernel?

You can't use philz kernel (I'm talking about our galaxy note at least) on any other rom than a Touchwiz based. So unfortunately you can't use it on cm10.1 :/
When I used a cm based, usually I kept the original cm kernel, Btw some of new kernels on xda are interesting! So maybe just try them
For now I'm on ultimate rom, and I'm planning to switch to another one soon (I'm flasholic...)

Someone in http://www.Taringa.net recommended me to use Crash Rom with Philz kernel ! And not only one person did that !
What Do You Think? I'm very confused about Android(Kernel/Rom/Recovery)...
PD: I really miss my iPod Touch 4g ! iOS it's heaven for me hahahaha
R: [Q] GT-N7000 Stock ITV Jelly Bean, Philz Or Hydracore?
But dude, that topic is about the galaxy s3 (i9300) and talking about a custom recovery (with few words, the menu from where you install new roms or wipe your note) and not about a kernel. Plus, Dev Crash left our note community some months ago, and his last rom is a jb leak rom Samsung, so I don't recommend you to install it. It's too much old now. Btw, if you wanna some advice about all this story (kernel recovery and other maybe) I advice you to:
First search for some already opened thread, and if you will not any answer to your questions, open a new thread
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Auch ! Sorry man ! I had a confusion !
But if you read the Thread there says that it's compatible with N7000... So, i can install Philz 4.88.5 Recovery on my Note !
Reading in the web i found a tutorial of the CM10.1 Official for N7000, i think i will use this ROM in my Note ! What do you think? Any advice?
In the page of CM i found the tutorial... I can't put the link here...
I'm think i will install... CM10.1 4.2.2(Nightly) ROM + Philz 4.88.5 Recovery ! Will this work?
