[VIDEO] Nexus 7 Asus Dock Review - Nexus 7 Accessories

I purchased the Asus dock for the Nexus 7 tablet. $30 plus shipping from the Google Play Store.
I demonstrate that OTG works, audio output, and volume control works, even with CyanogenMod builds.
Overall, it's a fun accessory, but it seems to be a bit overpriced in my opinion.

Zero dollar for Nexus 7 Dock and BT keyboard+Mouse

Just order one Nokia BT headset (BH-111) for Nexus 7. It is nice product and cheap.
I get one mini BT keyboard+mouse, so I use the box of BH-111 to make one dock for Nexus 7 and this keyboard set.
Hope that is a good idea to use your box to make dock for Nexus 7.
Nice that it's cheap, but made for the wrong decade.

Dock with pogo charger

Any news on this?
I havent heard of anything. Unfortunately Samsung is infamous for sucking at life at such things. Im hoping that this 3rd party pogo cable option leads to it but until then I think I am going to make my own. I ordered the cable, I will probably try and shoehorn it into an existing dock.
I really dont care for just another cable. I'll make it so its part of the dock, run the USB cable to a port and make an extension. Hopefully the end product is a dock I can leave on my desk and just drop the tablet in.
Seems so strange and bad-for-business...
Its one of the downsides of going with a Nexus device. Google still sucks at hardware delivery and the manufacturer doesn't care about making accessories for a small numbers device. If Google were bright in the hardware regard they would have learned their lessons and made the accessories part of the original contract for delivering the Nexus devices.
That makes a lot of sense actually I wonder if Samsung will ever make one or leave the making of all accessories to third parties. At least it will be a quality product if Samsung gets around to it..

I'm in the same boat. I've been hoping for a pogo dock since before I even purchased my nexus 10.
yeah I was hoping for a pogo dock with sound (and if possible HDMI) output too.
If it could be in a small design like the original iPad dock it would be brilliant.
Can't understand why no one have made this yes as it seems so obvious
N10 Pogo Dock
By the time this becomes available, our device will be obsolete.
I always thought there was a market for accessories but obviously I'm wrong concerning the N10 after becoming a reality.
Its Samsung man. Look at the other Nexus devices, those have accessories that leverage features of the devices.
I've never been a fan of accessories that only work on one or very few devices. I have a nice dock for my 1st gen Android which means it's useless for anything else.
Meanwhile a DIY dock is a better option. Once I find pogo cables for less than $20 I'll build one and redo it once I have a different device.

IHome Dock Clock Stand for Kindle Fire Clearanace price @ Staples. 9.90

Yes I know its mean for the Kindle Fire but it works with almost any device.
Kinda Wish I didn't buy the Nexus 7 official dock as this is more useful IMO.
The dock clock stand has two stand top plate things. One meant for use with the kindle fire and one thats meant for universal use.
Under the top plate is a 3.5mm headphone jack and a usb port for charging. Looks great with my s3 or nexus 7.... a little small for the nexus 10 but totally works.
But I use it for a bluetooth speaker setup.
You have to buy 2 extra parts to get it to work for bluetooth
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bluetooth-M...t=LH_DefaultDomain_0&var=&hash=item23239c83e7
is a apple bluetooth adapter for the 30 pin. Bought a couple for all the docks and such that go on clearance or sale due to the new lightning port to make a cheap bluetooth speaker sets for android devices.
and an apple charge and audio cable
http://www.ebay.com/itm/iPod-Dock-t...er_MP3_Player_Accessories&hash=item2c624d6591
Since the speaker dock has a usb port and a 3.5mm jack, you can use the cable and have it as a bluetooth speaker.
so for 25 bucks you can have a nice little bluetooth speaker set. But also you can use the cable and bluetooth adapter for your car, audio receiver. Just unplug and put it on any device you want to use it for. Lots of flexabilty.
The dock itself it quite nice, good build quality, pretty good sound for the size, overal a steal for 10 bucks if you can get one at staples. Staples might show a price tag of 59.99, but should ring up 9.90.
950986 is the item/sku number
http://checkinventory.home.comcast.net/~checkinventory/
use the inventory checker to see if your local staples has it in stock
yes it will hold a nexus 10 but looks kinda funny
I found one at my local Staples, had to ask for help in finding it since it was way up at the top of the shelving units. Thanks for posting!

I grabbed one yesterday too (last one in the store) and I have a Kindle Fire so I tested it out while waiting for my other items.
It sounds pretty good for the size and has a decent build quality.
I went with OPs idea for a bluetooth speaker but used Amazon, not ebay (I have Prime and like getting stuff quickly).
Thanks! Got the last one, or so I thought. The guy who looked up the price was surprised and snatched up the last one. The dock assembly comes apart easily, letting you use any other device.

I would recommend calling ahead and reserving one over the phone.

Just got my OTG cable in today!

I couldn't be happier!
Its the eForCity brand Micro USB OTG cable.
Believe me, buy it online from Best Buy for $5, it's WELL worth the extra $4, and it came within 4 days for me, compared to the $1.50 one on Amazon that takes weeks to get to you.
Right now, I'm typing this out on a generic Logitech keyboard, I just finished using a PS2 controller with a Super Joy Box Pro 5 adapter on ePSXe, N64oid and Neo.emu emulators, works flawlessly.
My only gripe are the Analog sticks, they don't feel natural because it's mapped digitally instead of Analog.
I'm going to get the Media Importer and Stick Mount and test those out.
All in all, if you're going to get an OTG cable for your Nexus 7, get this one, professional build quality, low cost (even outside Amazon, $5 within a week and you know what your getting,) and high compatibility.

I bought one of those from eforcity. Used it with both my GS4 and nexus 7. Worked, but the cable was a bit flimsy and after a while the cable broke on one of the inside wires as it wouldn't always work properly - wasn't worth the effort to cut and solder for me.
Anyhow- I bought two other OTGs from Monoprice.com (http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10833&cs_id=1083314&p_id=9724&seq=1&format=2 ) for relatively the same price. The cable is a bit thicker and as a result seems a bit more sturdy- better quality, in my opinion. For me, shipping was actually faster than advertised, but it shouldn't take long to get them delivered. Anyhow, just offering up another option...

USB-C to 3.5mm adapter / Dongle Recommendation

Coming from Pixel OG what adapter/dongle does everyone recommend getting?
I use the dongle from my pixel 2. That works fine.

That is confirmed. Definitely more quiet (apple). Purchased one the other day, to get reasonable sound you have to have the media volume at maximum.
Then I went and purchased the google version and the same sound on the same headphones, it was only half volume.
Does anyone know if the DAC using the Google dongle is any better than it was with the Pixel 2? With my P2XL plugged into a powered studio monitor the overall volume was low and it clipped horribly with the phone volume more than about 75% making it essentially useless for audio playback in this way. I'm hoping they've improved either the phone audio output or the capability of the dongle.
I tried reusing my OnePlus USB-C to 3.5 dongle and my Pixel 4 XL does not like it. Looking for a replacement.

Ditto. Can't use the one from my old Moto Z.
I bought a new Google dongle (the $12 one) and it works great. The problem I was having was the dongle that came with my P2XL. Using it on both the new and old phone, same results. Using the new dongle on both phones, both sound great with plenty of volume. Best $12 I've ever spent on audio equipment. 8-D

Try the Razer phone dongle. It was good with the Pixel 2XL, haven't tried it with the 4XL as I lost that dongle, but I'm gonna be re-ordering one as a backup to my iBasso dc02.
picked up one of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07SM5MQN8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 that allows charging and music playback

Thanks for the recommendation @pixelsquish
I just got one of the iBasso DC02 from HiFiGo
OMG... what a frigg'n amazing little piece of tech!!!
ViPER4Android + Bose QC20 + iBasso DC02 = Amazing audio experience
The iBasso DC02 is a little spendy. But I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy another, if I have to.
The Apple dongle, that I picked up at an airport kiosk, is now in the junk drawer. It'll due in a pinch (ie. for a phone call). But the difference between the Apple dongle and the iBasso is stunning.
Hint - I found a nice little review here, where there's a coupon code for a few bucks discount.
Has anyone tried the Moshi model from Google's store?
