Galaxy note wont turn ON. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I am using a galaxy Note in India and it is about 14 months old. I was working on internet and it freezes in between, so this time it wont even turn off or give any option when I pressed power button so I took the battery off after about waiting for 10 min. Then I turned it back ON It gave me error Encryption Failed Reset your phone.
I again tried to restart the phone, Still the same error. I again tried to restart and this time it wont even start Nothing happen just a dead screen.
1. Battery charge is full
2. it wont turn on and when pressing vdown + middle button + power button nothing happens just black screen always.
3. Taken the battery off number of times and then also tried, No Luck.
4 Even the computer wont even recognize it.
Its just a Dead Screen no movement in screen tried all possible step No luck , it all happened suddenly.
Its just the same as it came from company (No Root not even opened its just like new phone.)
Not able to understand what can be the issue, Please help..!!!!
Thanks

How are you sure that the battery is good and charged. Normally after one year if the usage is heavy, the chances of battery down happens. So make sure battery is good. Secondly you mentioned volume down button, how about vol up button ie recovery mode?

This happened to me as well last week. Tried everything but failed.
I did below steps and my phone is up & working
1) Remove the battery and keep it in a dry place for 4-6 hours (Very important step to make this work)
2) Place the battery back into computer and do not turn ON the phone
3) Plug the phone to wall charger and charge the phone for at least an Hour (I kept for 2 Hrs)
4) Remove the charger and gently press the power button for 15 secs
5) This should turn the phone back ON
Above steps helped for me. Let me know if this worked for you also

Ankush,
In your case I can think of only 2 things
1) If you have CWM installed then
press and hold "Volume UP Key + Power Key + Home Key" all together for 30 secs (may be a min) and see if you get recovery screen
If yes then all is ok & you just need to flash a new ROM
2) If you do not have CWM then
press and hold "Volume Down Key + Power Key + Home Key" all together for 30 secs (may be a min) and see if you get a custom screen
If yes then you can install custom ROM (or original ROM) using ODIN.
Let me know if anything helps you here

This step kinda weird.. Since I my note never get wet. I hope it will work.. I tried it later.. I dont have much budget to upgadet to Note 3 now. :crying:

Same kind of error
Over the night my phone closed. When I try to open it, on the screen apeared "Insert PIN to decrypt your ~something~ ". I never encrypted my phone so I tried to restart. I got stuck on the samsung logo. Then I removed the battery and put it back in and my device never started again. I have 2 batteries and none of them worked. I can charge the batteries independently and this is not the issue.

Have the same problem right now.. did you find a solution eventually?

Same happened to my device today. Had trouble with some apps before. Wanted to play back a two days old backup. But my phone never woke up again. Shut down forever. Never got to recovery. Had the latest cm11 nightly. Now its dead! RIP. My dear friend. We've gone a long way together. Never intended to replace you anytime soon. But I can't be without a Phone. Moving on to Galaxy S5 now. Hope it can fill the gapp.

Same here, completely dead after a reboot. I took it apart but I see no damage or signs of burn damage anywhere on the motherboard or other components. Is there anything I can do to troubleshoot and find out specifically what happened?

i am not sure, mayb the phone is design to last for only certain years, new apps launch make the phone in applicable for be running with latest apps and everything. Or mayb the phone is design with a timer to self destroy its chip or component after specific numbers of days being used??

Galaxy Tab 7 Won't Turn On? Here's a Fix it!

I've tried all of the other fix its to get my Galaxy Tab to work. I've tried charging for 12 hrs via wall charger (no response)... I've tried holding the power button plus home key while tapping on the screen at the same time for over 2 minutes (no response) ... I've even tried putting it into download or recovery mode by holding the power button plus the volume key (up or down) for over 2 or minutes (no response) ...
If you're like me and thought the manufacturer was your only option left, there is one thing left you can try.
All I did was remove the shell and unplugged the battery for 30 mins, plugged it back up and viola!!! I have the battery charging icon. And it now boots perfectly into the OS.
Its worth a shot.... here's a video I watched to learn how to remove the shell.

Note: you will need a tri-wing screw driver to remove the first two screws. I didn't have one and just used a precision flat head screw driver and it worked like a charm if using enough down force so you won't strip the screw.
Hope this helps someone...
Battery removal resets almost everything -- I'm grateful for your confirmation that it works on the Tab, and also for your links to the hammerless teardown.

XDA forums has helped me so much, so I'm glad to return the favor to those that need it!
good find
not had the problem myself, but that info is now in my brain for whenever I do have a problem
Good. Thx man!!!
Many thanks man, this saved my (tablets) life. Switched off my tablet last night after charging, for the first time in weeks, just to refresh everything. Tried switching back on this morning and nothing. I've spent all day trying to find out what the hell was wrong and tried all the various button solutions others have mentioned. Nothing worked. came across your info and links and thought I'd give it a try as I had nothing left to lose, tablet was dead. Voila!...back up and running again. I won't be switching it off again in a hurry. Once again great info and much appreciated.
Nice info, really helpfull, my friend gtab p1000 have some problem, wont turn on, and i found this thread, i just try once, and amazing its working, i hit thanks to you
My have turn off and dont turn on, i wiated 2 days and plugged in wall charger, and they work again.
dead tab
still got no luck...i'm tried of your skill yesterterday n my tab still won't turn on...
thanks for the advice
hai, i saw your posting and thank god it really helpful. i own a p1010 and some how it cant turn on twice!. what ever i do, and what ever tricks available in the internet i had tried it all, all with no success. so the first time around i had to sent it for repair and because my tab's warrant had already ended i had to fork out a lot just to make it running. the repair shop just stated that the battery and the touch screen need to be replace. how stupid of me to fall for that. after that my tab is usable again. then it happend again. two days later the same problem occurred. now i know it is not the hardware but the software that causeing all this headache.
now, with your posting, i opened my tab, disconnected the battery for 15 minutes and walla my tab is ok again. phew...save me a lot of money.
i see that the problem might be in the software. i see that alot of p1010 owners face the same problem here after upgrading from froyo to GB. and i notice that the blank screen syndrome would happen if we put it in a standby mode (my standby mode would be you touch the power button once just to make the screen goes blank).
just my 2cents.

Hi, I got same problem with you guys with my P6800. Tried all those methods (execpt those removing the casing/battery). I followed one tip and it works. Press and hold the power button for 20 second and release it. The screen displayed an image (icon?) of battery and clock. Some said it also work by pressing the button for 10 second.
thanks for the advice guys
holding the power button works

guys
does no one know whats causing this? is it a firmware issue? or battery?
for me, this happens every time I use the Netflix app. if I don't go into task manager and clear memory after every use of Netflix, my galaxy tab will not turn back on. sometimes fully charging it will wake up the screen, but that's not helping today so I guess I need to remove the shell even though I don't want to. I miss pocket PC's with soft reset buttons!!!

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 won't work if not plugged on external power source

Hi guys,
The following problem has taken me litterally DAYS of reading XDA, trying everything I could, but still no solution. Googling and searching this forum didn't help either, and it's totally weird.
It's a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000, on which were installed, almost two years ago, the ClockWorkMod recovery, Darky's ROM, Froyo, and everything was fine for months. Then, one day, out of nowhere, it switched off, without notice. Impossible to switch it on again! I remembered having seen some strange battery behavior few days before, like falling from 80% to 30% with no reason, so I thought of a battery issue. I plugged it for a full night. In the morning, I was able to boot it, but not easily, and all apps were crashing: during boot, or when launched manually. Yes, all I tried were crashing! Then, the phone became fully not bootable: press the power button, the screen shows "Samsung GT-I9000", then switches off...
I ordered a new battery: same result.
A guy from a phone repair store told me to plug the phone, and keep the power button down for 2 minutes: after this, I could reboot the phone, and thus, wipe data (factory reset). But it didn't help.
After "playing" a bit with it, I realized that the problem is:
the phone won't boot if an external source of power is not connected (as said above, white text shows, then the phone "dies")
if started with power cord/usb, the phone will work fine, all the time
if started with power cord/usb, and the external power source removed once the phone is booted, the phone will work fine, UNTIL the screen goes black for power saving mode or by pressing pwoer button, after which, within seconds, you can't open the phone anymore. I mean: if you press the start/power button immediately after the screen goes black, the screen goes on again, and the phone is ok. If you wait for few seconds, it's over, you can't do anything, and have to reboot the phone. This said, the phone doesn't vibrate, so I suppose it's not really off. But then... what is this state??
I really tried my best: updated to GB2.3.6, bricked my phone trying to re-install the CWM and having a bootloop, installed and used Odin and Heimdall, reverted to stock kernel, etc, etc, etc.
I feel sorry to bother you guys, I was really convinced that with the incredibly huge amount of data, how-tos, explanations, etc. I would manage to get rid of this, but this problem, though I don't really think it's hardware (but maybe it is?) stayed across so many kernels, roms, etc. that it's killing me!
For the record:
Model number: GT-I9000
Micro-software (?): 2.3.6
Baseband: I9000XXJW4
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I9000XWJW7-CL1125830 [email protected] #2 (problem was the same with [email protected] #2)
Version number: GINGERBREAD.XXJW4
Any help would be greatly appreciated, considering that a wireless phone that needs to be wired is a little bit of an issue...
Thanks in advance !

That's a very strange problem... let's try something, remove the battery, sim card and sd card and hold the power button for 1-2 minutes, btw when the screen is off, is really the phone off or just the screen? did you try to make a call to your phone when the screen is off?

Hi timberman thanks for the answer!
You're very right: I totally forgot to say that what initially allowed me to restart my phone "regularly" was this procedure of pressing the power button for 2 minutes (hint given by a man from a repair shop). Before this, I couldn't (kind of a bootloop).
It's a very good question! I don't think the phone is really off in fact, because there isn't this vibration saying the phone turned off... Let me try to call it!
F..k! I was redirected right away to the voicemail... so... phone was off
I'm starting to think it's an harware issue... I reinstalled lots of ROMs, kernel, etc. Same ****...
Any idea?

Hi! Answering is already nice
I tried the button pressed for 2 minutes without battery: didn't change anything.
I tried playing a sound: MAN, YOU'RE A GENIUS!!! Launching the music, then forcing the screen off with power button lets the music play, and OF COURSE, I can reactivate the screen by pressing the home button. The screen goes off normally again after few seconds, but the music is still playing, etc. So, as long as the music goes, the bug doesn't happen!
Other hints:
For some time already, when I was removing the phone from my ear after a call, quite often, the screen was staying off, and I had to press a lot of buttons to have it on again, and be able to close the call
The moment where it crashes when booting without power is the very INSTANT where the initial white text (Samsung Galaxy S) goes brighter. So, if you unplug the power cord just after this, the boot ends normally. In summary, something happens at boot just after screen brightness changes which is the same thing happening when the screen goes off for power saving. All this, only when no external power is plugged.
Hehe, we (you) are making progress

Hi again, it seems like your phone is unable to exit the deep sleep mode or something like that so, let`s try another thing, in ICS or JB there´s an option in the developer option settings that unfortunately is not present in gingerbread roms, so, you can try to switch to a ICS/JB rom and go to settings-developer options and disable the "PM sleep mode" let`s see what happens then

I tried to install ICS, with a GREAT tutorial found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494493 Sadly, the phone reboots after installing the ICS kernel, and then doesn't work anymore, I had to reinstall the Gingerbread (I tried twice).
Last news: I let the phone play music (sound muted!!) for about 12 or 18h: all was fine! So I decided to pause the music, and see what happens. Boom ((c) Steve Jobs)!! The screen went black, and phone was "dead". I was expecting this, so no panick, I put back my SIM card, my SD card, and tried to reboot, with power cord plugged: it boots until the screen shows the small loader animation, then the empty battery image, but then goes black again, instead of showing the charging battery!! Download mode is still available, so I'll try to reflash the kernel, say.
It's like if each time screen was put black, phone was dying.
I can't stress enough how I appreciate your help: even if we can't save my phone, it's very pleasant to be able to TRY things. Thanks man!! :good:
Update: I reinstalled all... and it's not, even with power cord in, going further than the "Samsung Galaxy S" white text. The moment this picture disappears from screen, phone is dead. For good this time ?

Hi! No, I didn't, I used Odin. But now, I can't try anything anymore The only "results" I can get from this phone are:
- enter download mode and update from Odin (maybe from Heimdall, too, but I didn't check)
- reboot until the first moment the screen goes black, after which, the phone becomes fully unresponsive

Flashed Xperia T with DooMKernel - Now Bricked?

Hi Guys,
Flashed v2 of the kernel using flashtool and it seemed to randomly reboot and crash and be quite laggy etc for some reason.
Rebooted the phone a few times and phone seemed to work and went into sleep. Tried to turn phone on and it is acting as if the battery is as flat as a pancake, no lights nothing on the screen and won't turn on.
Have tried to charge it overnight and still nothing.
Only used the phone for 2days so not sure if it has bricked or it is just a coincidence and the phone was faulty?
Xperia T was running Android 4.1.2 Build 9.1.A.0.489 with bootloader unlocked
Thanks

I can't seem to get a response when connecting the phone via USB to the PC.
Tried holding the volume up button whilst connecting the USB and also with the volume down button to no avail.
Any ideas?

No joy unfortunately, just tried this on another PC to rule that issue out as well.
It's looking like i'm going to have to send it back for a repair me thinks?

I know i'm probably clutching at straws, but is there absolutely anything else I could try?
Put it on charge and eave it for 24 hours.
Sometimes this brings it back to life.
I take it you have done the hold power button and volume up button for 30-40 seconds untill it vubrates 3 times and then tried to turn it on.

Yeah, tried that a few times, unfortunately nothing happened no vibrate or anything.
Will try putting it on charge again for 24 hours and then see what happens, had the phone on charge at the plug socket for around 8 hours last night but nothing change, no charging light or anything else.
I will try sending it back to the supplier I got the phone from if it doesn't spring back to life after charging for 24hours , I'm presuming that in the UK it could be just a simple swap?
Depends on the retailer/network. I worked for a UK network for 5 years. Outside of 7 days a device went off for a repair. Cpw do a 28 day exchange, not sure about all networks etc you'd have to check the returns policies.

I think what I should be asking really is that if they insist on a repair, would they go the whole hog to test if it had been flashed with non sony stuff, would that be highly likely or just simply swap the motherboards without question?

I've let the phone charge for a few hours and now when trying to turn on the phone, the notification led now flashes red where as before it would not do anything when trying to turn on.
When connecting the phone to PC it still isn't detected.
Ive tried to search for what the notification colours mean but couldn't really find anything.
Is this anything hopeful?

Yes, but leave it on charge untill tomorrow...then try the hard reset and turn on.
Then just keep it on the charger. Red led means low battery

Plugged it back in to the wall charger and it had a solid red light for around 5mins which I haven't had before when trying to charge it.
Will leave it plugged in now till tomorrow.
Thanks for your help so far
From my experience the warranty states if you modify the software it voids the warranty. If it's bricked it could be a pcc brick, a friends XT died that way.
So an engineer may just say it's faulty and exchange it. Hard to say but from what you've said it may come back on now it's charging.
Similar issue with my xperia s but it came back on after several minutes

Hi Greg,
Left the phone on charge over night and have tried connecting the phone to PC and managed to get some kind of response when holding either the volume up button or volume down button and connecting to PC and detects the phone as a USB input device for just a second or so, the phone will then have a red LED light again after this.
I connected the phone to PC so I could monitor anything that happened easier and noticed that every now and then the red light will come on for a few seconds and then go off again.
Could I possibly have not left the phone on charge long enough at the plug socket?
Hi,
I had the same problem. When the light turns red wait until the light goes out. Make sure you have flashtool open and make sure you only flash the kernel. Now when the red light goes out hold volume down and plug in the usb cabel connecting to your pc, a green light wil appear. Now really fast flash only the kernel. The phone will go into a bootloop once and goes out again. Now put on the homecharger and wait untill it is about 50 percent. Now put the phone on and everything works as before.

flash the stock kernel for your FW.
Load the FW into flashtool and exclude everything except kernel.

There doesn't seem to be a Build 9.1.A.0.489 (phone had android 4.1.2 and phone is factory unlocked) in the Kernal section in your thread unless I am missing the point?
Downloaded the stock kernel that was in the DooMKernal thread you posted but that doesn't seem to be compatible with flashtool as it is in img and elf files
Sorry for acting dumb.

[Q] My phone is not turning at all on after new ROM

Hello,
Something happened with my Samsung Exhibit II phone after installing new ROM from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2185107
First, the installation went OK and the phone booted in the new environment. But since Google Apps were missing I rebooted my phone again into recovery mode and installed Google Apps and also SwapSD. Then I selected "restart phone" and after that I cannot turn my phone on. It looks like it is dead. The battery was OK (charged in full). So, the phone does not react to pressing any buttons at all. Is it familiar situation? Is there anything to do?

Didn't help. I removed a battery for 10 minutes, put it back, pressed "Volume Up + power" and nothing happened.
I am wondering if it is possible that installing a wrong apps (like SwapSd or Gapps) could kill a phone?
Even when I plug the charger in the phone, I don't see that the phone is charging. Usually, the battery icon would appear with percentage of charge. Now, nothing is happening.

Plug it into a windows computer. If it installs drivers for qhusb or something like that, you might be hard bricked.

Try pressing the power button, hold it down while holding the volume down button. Hopefully that will get you into download mode so you can try ODIN to reflash your ROM and/or recovery. If you get nothing while trying to do that, than yeah, I'd say your device is toast.

Well, it didn't work either.
Is it possible that wrong software can cause a phone's death? This phone is only 1.3 year old, the battery was OK.

No, brick yes but kill the phone no. Guess the hardware just gave you the old proverbial middle finger looks like. On the bright side you now have a reason to get something better.

Xperia Z C6603 is dead! Help!

Hi , after searching around the forum still i dont understand what happend with my phone. The phone is 1 month old. Earlier today when i tryed to charge my phone (after some time charging) i saw the red light blinking and the phone wouldnt start so i did a reset (power button + volume up) , phone restarted and it worked very good , later after couple of hours i tryed to put the phone back to charge , i didnt pay atention so i was kinda trying to insert usb in the phone in a wrong way then i insert it corectly and when i looked at phone i saw hes off (i didnt look to see if anything happened to it when i tryed to insert usb wrong way , i did that before and it was no problem). I tryed to reset again , tryed both tools from sony , tryed mostly everything the phone its just dead no sign of life. When this happened phone was like 60% battery and ive updated like 1 week ago via SUS to 4.4.2. I heard one method with the tape and im trying it right now maybe if battery gets to 0 phone will reset by itself but i dont have much hope on it.
My phone is rooted but i didnt touch bootloader , its my warranty ok? Any other ideas how i could repair it or if the phone just broken or its only maybe something from software?
Thanks and best regards!
NEWS , my phone is up again!
What i did was unlogic but ill tell maybe it will help somebody else.
First time i tryed everything i saw on web , pressing all combination with power button and volume buttons and nothing was happening. (as you see the post above).
Second i tryed to tape the power button and volume up button (i used some papaer to protect the phone from the the tape), ive let them for about 1 hour or so , i tryed to reset/power nothing happend.
After that i tryed to see if the phone is charging , nothing happend ... then i simply pressed power button and the phone was back alive (the usb cable was removed). My phone came back with 63% battery , it was like around the same when it went dead. Everything seems to work fine now!
Any idea on this? I want to avoid this in the future
Thanks!
