Does anyone know of a charger USB cable with a really short / stubby micro USB plug piece? I have my Nexus installed in the car, and due to the size of the plug that goes into the Nexus, it gets pushed to an angle by the dashboard, which causes things like my USB flash drive to unmount suddenly, USB-DAC to lose signal etc. I have tried both with the charger plugged directly into the Nexus, and using a 90 degree adapter, both are just slightly too tight and I am afraid with the pressure on them may cause damage to the connector on the Nexus itself.
I am hoping to find a USB cable with a stubbier plug, or possibly even an OTG cable with a 90 degree connector on the end of it. Either one of these should give me an extra couple mm in order to not run into this problem.
Thanks.
Have you tried something like this?

Thanks for the link, I have not tried one of those (yet). I did find this link searching around yesterday and ended up ordering the down angled cable. It's not cheap for a 5" USB cable, but should work and give me a little extra slack for plugging/unplugging the Nexus.

I'm looking for a longer charging cable for my DROID 3, the one that come with the phone is too short. I have read that using cheap cables or cables that didn't come with the phone may cause problems.
Mediabridge makes a 6 foot micro usb cable that works great for charging and to a PC. It's on amazon for 6 bucks.
I just use a usb extension cable, seems to work fine
I always buy cables from Monoprice. I've been using a 10ft micro usb cable from them since I first got my OG Droid with no problems.

same here, thats one of the great things about a phone with a USB charger. you can just put an extender in the main charger and connect the OEM charging cord to its female connector. Sometimes i do wish i had one longer cord though because the cables come disconnected pretty easily if you tug on the phone.

Agreed i use a 16 foot BELKIN extension cable lol(use it for other things besides phone).
Cheap chargers may cause issues, but pretty much any USB cable should be fine. A really cheap long cable could have data transfer issues due to not having enough shielding, but for simply charging it would still work.

Other machine has this class charger, you can find in some phone seller
Hi I am looking for a case that will plug into the microusb and provide an alternate port. The port being the weakness on every mobile device by plugging/unplugging all the time. Ive lost more than 1 phone this way. i just want to preserve the life of my Nexus. I dont mind if it increases the length overall. Has anyone heard of such a thing?

Here is how I solved it, I have:
1. Asus Nexus 7 Dock
2. Sena Ultraslim pouch
So if I need to charge, it easy to remove the tablet from it, as for transferring files, I use wifi or Google Drive, simple as that.
Maybe I'm lucky, I've never broken a charging socket on a phone....but...the idea of a socket extension on a case is a great one. I've had to 'mod' a few charger plugs to get them to fit into the space left by case manufacturers around the socket.

do you mean something like the battery pack cases for phones cause I have never seen one for any tablet. You could get an otg cable and mod a case to hold it in place to do what you want I believe.

Yeah I've thought about doing that but was hoping for something more professional. Also I use a $35 seido case (already broke 2 N7's so I need the heavy case), would have to buy a second one to extend it to make the mod, with a good chance of doing a bad job of it and wasting $70.

I still don't get it, according to Wikipedia, micro USB port, can handle like 10000 cycles of connect/disconnect, and will be fine..so how do you destroy them?
quote:
"The newer Micro-USB receptacles are designed for up to 10,000 cycles of insertion and removal between the receptacle and plug, compared to 1,500 for the standard USB and 5,000 for the Mini-USB receptacle. This is accomplished by adding a locking device and by moving the leaf-spring connector from the jack to the plug, so that the most-stressed part is on the cable side of the connection. This change was made so that the connector on the less expensive cable would bear the most wear instead of the more expensive micro-USB device"

My HTC Thunderbolt disagrees. Ive been having to swap the battery 3 times a day for the past year, using external chargers. For a while I could still connect to PC with a usb cable, not to charge but for file transfers, but now I can't do that either.

Hi,
Can anyone recommend a decent USB cable for my sons N7?
Need to get a replacement, but the ones i currently have are not beefy enough to charge properly.
Cheers

Same problem, can only find pathetic skinny fragile things.
I have used this cable without any probs
AKASA part no AK-CBUB05-10BK
bought from CPC order code CS20881
Try a flat ribbon cable, Amazon Uk have them http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb...onics&rh=i:electronics,k:flat micro usb cable Various lengths and colours. I use a standard 1.2mtr blue one that I bought last year.
I'm using Logitech cable for charging (got it with the mouse) and Nokia cable for PC (they are always connected, that's why separate cables), so get one of those.
I've only had problems with 3 years old Samsung cable because it kept falling out (it stays in on my SE phone)
I really doubt beefyness of the cable affects charging though. I charged my tabled on just about any cable I've found laying around in the house with no problems
The reason as to why your charge cannot keep up is most likely due to using a charger with lower amperage (i.e 1amp/1A).
As long as you purchase a 2amp charger and compatible usb cable, then you shouldn't have any more issues with draining the battery faster than it can be charged thanks to the 2amp charge rate.

Thanks for the reply guys, this is using the Asus charger that came with the device, just that the original cable split, so I need a replacement.
Have looked at the cables, might get one of the flat ones as they look good.
Cheers,
Paul.
Just to let you know I bought the flat ones and they fit and work really well.
Thanks for the replys all.

Trick is to get a short a cable as you can. The impedance really effects charging. The difference between my stock and a 6' cable is like a 60% drop.

So my situation is that, using the app Galaxy Charging Current, my current seems to be fluctuating. I got several cables and they were okay for a few weeks and after a while their performance started to degrade even though there was no abuse. The cables would be charging at 1800mA one moment, the next it'll be 1400mA. The values would also change if I plug in and out the cable. Oddly though, using the same cable and charger combo on another phone, the charge would be about 1800mA. I'm thinking that the USB port might be broken because when plugged in, I could wiggle the USB quite a bit. Also, I'm using an original Samsung charger too. Anyone else had any problems like this before? Did changing the USB port helped? I don't really mind changing it, but I rather not spend money on something unless I'm pretty sure.

facing same issue as above
current in galaxy charging apk was 1800 but now it is 1400, i have usb replacement previously
So I have 4 different cords for nexus 2 off amazon 1 with my car charger and the original.. I've noticed gradually over time I'm having trouble getting them to stay connected to the phone... Anyone have any experience with this.. Any suggests anything lol
I've found that with a lot of usb cables the little prongs that hold it in the phone lose their springiness eventually causing it to slip out.
Replaced the phone twice because of that problem. Pretty sure the ports on the 6 are built looser than other phones.
Use a QR charger. It will help wear and tear on the USB port.
