This may be a stupid question but please it is legit for me a newbie...
I have flashed to stock italian Gingerbread-no problems so far. I want to replace my region from XEU to XSG which is the Arabic region sales code.
yup this is possible. i did something similar on my tab. flashed stock italian GB posted by chainfire and then replaced all my csc files with those for philippines (XTC, GLB, SMA, XTE).
Kabayan, ok I've read somewhere that you used root explorer to replace the csc folder. Where to get the csc folder that I need is now my problem.....
Would you mind to post a step by step procedure on how to go about replacing the csc sales code?
Can we use csc - arab from froyo to gingerbread?
@bongski55
i used sec_csc.zip from KM3 (froyo) firmware. if you have a copy of your old firmware, it is found in the cache.rfs you could mount it with apps likes ultraiso and then extract sec_csc.zip
@romy4321
you could use csc files from froyo builds.

i think it would work for both.
to be clearly , this is will make the tab totally support the arabic language or only for the modem 3g etc ?
EDIT : i just flashed it , and actually no affect at all , talking about if u want to change the locale to arabic or even if you wanna browse in arabic is not supported .. actually the CSC i know is for modem .
ok here is how you do it after u flash the zip . *#272*MIEI# and choosed EGY and press install ( this will wipe all your data ) . then your tab will reboot , but still doesn't support arabic in locale or even in browser .. so what is the use of it ?

i thought it will also affect on the locale , nvw thanks , am feeling good with overcome gingerbread because in their rom they don't include the modem , so 3g will work even if you are in the moon .. tnx

then i guess it's for those who just flashed stock italian GB.
CSC files contain settings for region/carrier for 3G and not really for modem.
So anyone succeed to get Arabic working ?
Or is there any 2.3.3. Rom supporting Arabic ?
Thanks.

There is still no official Arabic gingerbread release by samsung so there is only temporary patch to partially enable Arabic on Overcome Gold. Go to "the overcome experience" website to download the patch.
Samsung is quite busy with the upcoming releases of the 10.1 and 8.9 tabs so it will take a while for the updates. Even the Italian gingerbread had become unofficial now that it has been pulled out.
If I were you you can write a letter to samsung to pressure them to release an arabic gb..
As I don't like to come back to Froyo, I'll try Overcome Gold Rom and try the arabic patch.

Hi all,
I have just bought me a galaxy note with 2.3.6 firmware,
And i wonder what does the PDA and CSC mean in the firmware upgrade to ICS?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I don't really understand which firmware to choose...
I want to choose 4.0.4 but dont know which one.
I am currently using :
model number GT-N7000
android version: 2.3.6-mobile-star
baseband version: N7000XXLPT
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA4CL886827
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
What is my PDA?
What is my CSC?
What is PAD?
What is CSC?
Which firmware can i choose?
What is the difference between all the firmwares?
Thanks in advance
PDA represent your build version
e.g your current build is Build: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6, then PDA version of your ROM is XXLA6
again XX represend for countries, XX means it is for europian country
If suppose your build info contain DDLPA, then DD represens for India and PDA version is LPA, means that ROM is for India
Same way CSC is sales code., you can check your ROM CSC by dialling *#1234#
again first two digits represents country and last three represents release time.
But as such there is no restriction to use any ROM for any country if your device is unlocked(carrier restriction free)
Latest ICS is LRK for germany, you can use that too.
I see

Thanks for the reply dr.ketan now i understand something!
Just to make the picture complete:
when i dial *#1234# i get:
PHONE: N7000XXLPT - what that means?
CSC: N7000EULA1 - what that means?
I understand that because my phone uses PDA with XX i can use any EuropeanROM ?
Thanks a lot!
backup your efs first http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1606012
you need root for that you can get that by following dr ketans guide in sticky section developement.

you can update to any rom any time, just follow dr ketans thread and follow pc odin route
Updating throught Kies/ota is tricky, you need pcode sometimes of the country rom you want to go to, no root, and csc of that countries rom, and a whole stock rom installed for that csc. Best to just always follow pc odin route lol
also read stickies and threads fully cause a lot messed up by not doing that. One tip on ics do not wipe/factory reset

Or use custom kernel like speedmod

I have rooted the N7000XXLRK successfully.
You mean that i can not install CWM application on that firmware?
So how do i backup the whole phone without CWM?
And another question:
i want to see the battery percentage on the upper bar and not only the battery icon indication, how do i do that? is that possible?
Thanks,
best, not to use cwm on a kernel that can trigger the emmc brickbug, best to use kernel like speedmod k3-11 or likewise which has the trigger for emmc brickbug disabled when doing anything in cwm, or in ics.
Dont wipe, factory reset, change csc, or delete large files on a stock ics kernel
to eliminate these issues read threads/first posts of kernel threads btw.
tip: use kernels based on tw, or stock for stock ics, kernels based on cm9 or other are not for stock..
tip2: when nandroid backup, and wanting to recover that, you need same kernel installed as when backup was made. So use a safe kernel
tip3 when recovering apps and data on different roms, issues can arise due to different database structures, which is why its not really supported on i.e. cm9
tip 4 Some roms are wipe some are not. when going to and from gb and ics stuff could linger, which could cause softbricks. There are clean ways to go to and from, enought threads on that's but always do it on safe kernel whatever wipe action

Download ur stock rom and extract the cache. img file from it. install this cache. img using pc odin selected in the csc tab
if you made efs backup with working ota, restore it, if you didnt, check if:
no custom parts installed (kernel)
Or parts that didnt come with same stock rom version (e. g. if you changed modem)
Or if your pcode is different.
pcodin is faster lol

Thanks for the explanation, but what do the letters PDA actually stand for?
(And please don't say "Personal Digital Assistant," because that's all I can find and I've been searching all day.) :fingers-crossed:
I'm sure it must mean something else when it is being used in a discussion of Android mobile phone software.
Does anyone know what "PDA" actually stands for, what are the actual words represented by that abbreviation?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I live on Europe and used JVU and it works good, but u why dont u just try both? U wont lose anything
I live in Hungary and I generally tend to use JVU or JVT. I recommend this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870460. Scroll down to XXJVT or XXJVU. These are CWM flashable zips. The thread also has region to modem recommendations/descriptions.
All ROMs are downloaded from live.samsung-updates.com.
They were extracted and archived again for better compression, resulting in slightly less .rar size.
Of course, you can flash whichever ROM you feel like. All European phones can have a ROM from any European country without triggering KNOX. My Note is running BOC5 AUT (Swiss) although its region is EUR (Greece).
Will try to keep it updated as much as I can.
I will upload only country ROMs, not providers ROMs. For example, I will not upload TNL (Netherlands T-Mobile), I will upload only PHN (Netherlands).
Only provider ROM I will be uploading is a newer version that is not available in unbranded ROMs.
BOC5
ATO (Austria)
BTU (UK)
CYV (Cyprus)
ITV (Italy)
LUX (Luxemburg)
AUT (Switzerland)
NEE (Nordic Countries)
TPH (Portugal)
PHN (Netherlands)
PHE (Spain)
EUR (Greece)
Can you help me or give me a link with differences from BOC3 and BOC5?
I wish to know if BOC5 worth flashing.
Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, there is no change log. All you can do is read here and there in XDA to see what people report in. One thing that I noticed though from BOC3 to BOC5, is that the silent function, now has the option to disable vibration too. You can press it 2 times instead of one. 1 it gets silent with vibration only and the 2nd it gets silent with no vibration.
Perfect...thanks Shadowjump.
I have updated my Note 4 to BOC5. Interestingly I was unable to update with the O2 rom. This BTU build worked!
Thanks for sharing, what i notice is BOC5 got amazing battery consumption much better than BOC3

If I understood correctly, the question is if I used these files to create the ROM files. No, the ROMs I have listed are downloaded from samsung-updates.com only. Also, I have never downloaded any rom from samsung-updates or sammobile that has 5 files inside the rar. Only file in the rar is the ROM. This is what you flash.
You can also send me a PM in Spanish if you want. Hablo Espaniol.
For those not knowing how to install. i came from stock unrooted kitkat:
extract .rar.
Download Odin (i used 3.10.6) , click on "AP" and select the .tar.md5 file from the rar archive. Wait for the md5 check to finish. reboot your phone in download mode (vl down + home + power ) . press volume up, connect phone to PC and click on start in odin when the phone is detected. then wait for the process to finish and don't unplug the cable before everything is finished. after the phone rebooted i made a factory reset in the settings to make sure everything is clean.
more detailed and better written instructions on sammobile, just select the rom (for example ATO 5.0.1 ) for your device and click it. scroll down and see instructions + odin download link.

You should download Odin 3.09 or Odin 3.10.7 and follow this video if you don't know how to do it
After the process, if you are stuck at boot animation, just go to recovery and clean cache, it should work, if not, do a wipe
