Another way to disable apps is to use Titanium backups "freeze" or the "disable" with adb. Both prevents the app from running BUT leaves it intact and give you a possibility to restore all apps with a hard reset.
Here is a guide from Paul at Modaco:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809231
Basically its use adb to run a PM command:
pm disable com.Apps.apps (change the file name to the apk you want to disable.
Note: titanium "freeze" do same thing

Fixed (hopefully)
I noticed that freezing using titanium takes a while... It just reports 'freezing...' and seems to hang there (after terminating and restarting the apk appears as frozen though).
Anyone with similar issues?
I can recommend SystemApp Remover, cheap nice UI installer/remover/disabler/backup app for your system apps, works very fine.
Can you disable the icon for alarm and call log and still get access to these in the call-app and the clock-app?
Anyone know this?
Hi, i just got my 2x and i‘m very new to this process, but does anyone know if you can do this with a temporary root then have your phone reboot with the apps still frozen? I‘m reluctant to void my warranty without a good reason e.e custom gingerbread ROM‘s, thanks in advance for any replies

Not really sure, but with root you dont really have to be carefull for waranty issues. You can very easily unroot your phone with SuperOneClick root and there won't be any trace left
Thank you for such a quick reply, i think i‘ll attempt it with a temp root and if it doesn't work i‘ll root it permanently since i will be flashing ROM‘s to it in the future.

The app disabling is not "linked" to the rooting process.
If you disable apps using a temproot they will stay disabled until you factory reset the phone or re-enable them.

I tried, and it didn't work. Anyone know if it is possible to get rid of those two icons from the app drawer?
Just a word of warning: if you freeze some important apps and do a factory reset (using default recovery) you will probably get stuck on boot animation or beyond.
That is what I did. I froze LG Home using AntTek App Manager, then did a factory reset without unfreezing it and I was stuck after the first Setup Wizard. I had to reflash the phone using NVflash.
Bloat Freezer is free on the market and works much the same way as titanium for freezing apps
Hi all,
Im new to Android but I have done a fair bit of developing with Windows phones. I have recently bought a LG Optimus 4X HD and the first thing I want to do is install PhoneLocator Pro for security.
In Windows I used to install security software to the extended ROM so if it was factory reset the software would stay. PhoneLocator Pro says it can do this if the phone is rooted. I have read the guide to rooting and im ready to give it a go.
My question is after I have rooted it, installed the software and removed the bloatware is it then possible to unroot the phone to protect it from accidental deletion and also to increase the security by not allowing deletion of PhoneLocator Pro when it is installed to the ROM.
I have done a lot of reading up on rooting but cant find anything on unrooting. I have also searched but when you search for "ROOT" a lot comes up.
Thanks

Soo, if you unroot the phone, the app won't work...
Stock apps can be uninstalled from the phone, and if you unroot there is no problem.
We can't have everything...
Thanks for your help.
If I leave the GPS activate all the time it should still work though shouldnt it?
How do I unroot and then i can try it?

In "SuperSU" you have the option "Remove root completly".
About the app... I don't know if only needs root for that option or to work normally. I never tried that app.
Thanks RuedasLocas.
In your opinion what freeze app software do you consider the best. Im thinking of trying App Quarantine and AntTek App Manager. From what I can see a few havent been updated for a while and therefore dont run so well on ICS.

Sorry if I steal the answer to this question but you can use the free app SDmaid. It also has an App management menu where you can freeze apps.
Or use Titanium Backup Pro Root.

Well... I use Root Uninstall Pro and AntTek Explorer, now, if they are the best or not...
They're very easy to work with and very effective.
RU allow to uninstall or freeze, give the app file location and directory thru AntTek Explorer.
AntTek Explorer allow to see and manage hidden files on the device.
If you plan to do some more Android stuff (especially flash roms what might be possible soon), I'd recommend you to buy Ti Backup. It's great for backups and can freeze, root uninstall, fix market links and more. I have never regretted buying it because you can do so much with it.

Hello everyone,
So i have towel rooted the S5, it's great and works fine except for a couple things. Like the title says, neither s-voice or s-health update. They both keep telling me they have updates but, when I try to update the app force closes. Unfortunately "blank" has stopped. I was wondering is this because of towel root or another reason. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I do not have xposed installed. Does this mean I just have to wipe the cache from the settings app?
Yes, thats what he means. Going to app manager and clearing cache
I had updated everything before I used towelroot, so I can only help in saying that a few days ago I updated with no problem.
I might also try a difference between WIFI and Data attempting to update.

I just tried to go through app manager and clear the cache and it still doesn't fix the problem. I'm thinking the only way to get around this would to be uproot and then update and root again. My only complaint about that way is - do I have to do that everytime these apps want to update?

I've updated plenty of apps since then. I wouldn't get carried away right off the bat.
There are several factors that could be preventing it from updating that are out of your control. Next thing I'd try, a stupid, yet simple. turn off, pull battery, turn on and try again. If that doesn't work just wait 12 or 24 hours before attempting again.
Like I said before, stuff out of your control, servers, networks, etc.

Hi guys. I'm going to apologize in advance that I am a noob when it comes to hacking and rooting. I've successfully gained root access to my Verizon LG G2 using my computer. I used originally used an app called G2 Tweaksbox that allows you to change a lot of things about the phone. But then I wanted to try the famous CM 11. I did the tutorial on youtube, but I didn't install the GAPPS zip. Then I rebooted my phone and now it became stuck on the LG startup screen but looping over and over again. I've tried to hard reset it but it won't work. Is there any possible way to fix this, because I used another family members upgrade to get this phone after I broke my last one? Please don't judge but please help me if you can.:crying::crying::crying:

If you did a nano backup then restore that if not you are going to have to do the revert back to stock. But for your information for later on. If you install xposed with any modules. Make sure to properly Uninstall all them before you change roms or make any changes
One last thing the official cm rom is no longer supported. No one to work on the g2 anymore

I had issues with my phone messing up if I kept xposed with modules installed still when I did clear all and installed a rom. Not sure why but I Uninstall now and no issues anymore. I actually lost knock on once leaving xposed installed. I confirmed it with going back to my nano Uninstalling xposed and knock on worked fine

Yeah I downloaded xposed and I got the latest module for support. I had no idea that you needed to delete them after you wanted to download a new ROM. Okay so do I fix this? My phone is stuck looping on the LG bootup message and the only way I can stop it is by hard reseting it and that just turns it off. How do I access it on my computer and reflash the stock? Please help.

Hi, maybe someone in here can help me. I just received a Gear vr and I can not get it to work. I am on a custom rom on the sprint network. Here is what happens:
I plug it in and it says to unplug it to install the software. It installs some software and I go to install let's say 'Oculus 360 photos' and at the end a message pops up saying 'unable to install oculus 360 photos'. I pull down the status bar and click on the failure and it says I have to update the software. I update it and it looks like I'd downloads something but never actually updates. That's where I am. Nothing installs, nothing works. Pretty frustrating...

I had the same problem. Went back to stock and it works great. Maybe today I'll root my phone and stay on stock to see if it's a kernel issue. If I do I'll update you.
You probably do not have the required Facebook apps on your ROM. You need at least com.facebook.system and com.facebook.appmanager.

No problem with being rooted. Custom ROM 100% the case. You need a stock-based TW kernel and therefore stock TW rom with the VR update built-in

Thanks for the update. I think that's my problem. I don't think there is a rooted stock based kernel on Sprint.

It's not the kernel. Finally just installed the newest v9 kernel and rooted my phone. I suggest maybe starting with stock, install the vr software and run once then root. Soon I'll install the newest renegade full rom and see what that does.
It's not the rom either. I may be telling you to do more than you have to but maybe just go to stock, get vr apps then root and clean install full rom. Everything is great for me.

I solved it. (More or less...)
Edit the file is downloading in the folder "Download" of your cell phone BEFORE it finish. For a reason that I DON´T understand, the software delete this file once it is completed, instead to install it. When you edit the name in the meantime is downloading, you impide it. Then, rename it back to .apk (if not it will keep as ".apk_downloading so you can´t install it), and install it manually.
It finally works.
Does anyone knows how could I impide the file gets deleted? I don´t mind if I have to install it manually, as long as I can. So far, when the app is not very big, I have to be VERY fast in the editing..., or I will not be able to do it.
Im curious, oculus vr worked flawlessly, unil i installed "package disabler pro" and removed "bloat".
I have read that facebook apps are required (rediculous... F*+-ing facebook bulls&*#@.)
Bit is anyone aware of what "bloat is required for functionality?

Hello,
I had the same kind of issue on my note 4: update & install of the essential apps were always failing (photos 360, videos, videos 360).
I managed to update by renaming the downloaded file before it got deleted, but I had to do the same operation for all apps then install them manually before I could access the Oculus store.
I wonder why installs fail like that. I rooted the phone with cf-auto-root to be able to use my PS3 controller wirelessly. Maybe it is becuse the kernel is slightly modified for root?
EDIT: Also it seems I will need to use the same method for all installation I do from the oculus store! I really want to fix this. I'll probably try unrooting...

If the phone is rooted, it will not work. No matter how you install the apps, it will never open oculus.
I had to unroot, and it worked again (installing apps manually, as I explained before). Once rooted again, I even tried to substitute the kernel for the original one. That allowed me to enter in Oculus, but the VR never worked. I had to unroot again.
Does anyone know how to impide it delete the apk file automatically? At least that would help.
Finally got into the process and sign into oculus app
Hi guys,
I finally succeeded in getting the download process working:
- log the samsung app output with logcat via adb
- click on install button of the Gear Vr configuration wizzard
- catch the called urls on logcat and copy/paste them on your browser to download the APKs
( for me : prePost_20160128024220687.apk
prePost_20160128024344077.apk
prePost_20160330073402086.apk
prePost_20160330073501789.apk
prePost_20160330073641987.apk
prePost_20160330073735750.apk)
- install them in the order the urls were called ( adb install -r prePost_20160128024344077.apk )
- on the device, stop the download using the cross
- click the install button again
The download should now be successful.
