do you have any custom launcher? because that is a reason that prevents from updating your device !!! if you are not rooted you can easily update to JB

JB OTA doesn't work for me either and I'm 100% stock.
Downloads fine, reboots to install, and then get a little green robot with a red exclaimation mark, then boots back to the homescreen and says Update Failed.
Same issue here.
Mine was unlocked, rooted, CWM installed.
Ive since removed CWM but have the exact same issue now as you.
Ive also tried updating with the OTA file via factory recovery. This also fails part way through the process.
Currently Im trying a factory reset and OTA update. Its been a 3 hour mission so far........
---------- Post added at 10:58 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:32 AM ----------
Factory reset....still fails. What a joke.
---------- Post added at 11:06 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:58 AM ----------
Anyone have any words of wisdom as to another update procedure we can try?
Installing the factory OTA update from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2028814 (81.5.39001-91.2.29001.Retail.en.GB 4.0.4-4.1.2)
From recovery (default) updating from external storage gives the following error:
Code:
qe 0/1
-- Install /mnt/sdcard/ ...
Finding update package ...
Opening update package ...
Verifying update package ...
Installing update ...
Verifying current system ...
assert failed: apply_patch_check("EMMC:boot:fsdf93r9ejfwfjdsjgg.....lots of letters........")
E: Error in /tmp/sideload/package.zip
(status 7)
Installation aborted
Do we perhaps need to remove root?
I am pretty much the same as everyone else,
I have the bootloader unlocked and it is rooted, using stock ICS (No CFW what so ever)
I download update, install, get 1/4 of the way and then Andy is on his back with a red "!" above him.
Now i read somewhere yesterday that you need to un-root your phone, and then flash some stock firmware back onto it where you can the upgrade to JB?
If this is true can you direct me (and probably many others) to a link to do such thing?
Cheers
Bradley
Im thinking flashing:
CFC_8.7.1I-110_IFW-39_S7_UCASMI01E1017.0R_USASMIICSRTGB_P042_A005_S1FF_fb.xml.zip
from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/smi/list.php. That will get us back to standard retail firmware and try again?
[q] How does that effect the current unlocked status of our device? Im assuming it wont
Success!
Using RSDLite 6.1.4
Flash (retail gb) CFC_8.7.1I-110_IFW-39_S7_UCASMI01E1017.0R_USASMIICSRTGB_P042_A005_S1FF_fb.xml
Then stock recovery to flash 4.1.2 update zip
It took sometime 'Updating radio..' but otherwise processed as normal.
Its odd that it wouldn't update what was basically a stock phone to start with, but still got there in the end......

Hi,
I have moto g 2014 dual sim. today I tried to reflash the os but got "Failed to validate system image" upon reboot. So I unlocked the bootloader and again reflashed the os but got bootloop.. Please tell me how to boot my moto G 2014?
Read the instructions and flash it correctly with the correct firmware. Also post your question in the correct section.
If you have winrar or 7zip you can extract the firmware and take the "boot.img" file and flash it separate from the other firmware and it should work. That's how I do mine.

Let me tell you the series of events that led me to have bricked Moto G 2014:
1. I had X1068 Moto G 2-14
2. Wanted to reflash firmware and followed the steps provided in 4.2 section here http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/restore-to-stock-t2873657
3. I got "Failed to Validate System Image" when I tried to reboot.
4. I was advised to unlock bootloader and reflash firmware. I did the same but got bootloop when I tried to reboot.
5. Now when I power on the phone, bootloader unlocked warning message comes and the screen blinks with the same message..
Please help Bro..
Who ever told you to unlock bootloader to flash firmware is giving bad advice. It is not required to unlock the bootloader to flash the factory firmware.
Make sure you're using the driver from here: http://www.mymotocast.com/download/MDM?platform=windows
(If you have other Android ADB drivers installed, uninstall them first, before installing this one.)
Make sure you are using mfastboot.exe, not the regular fastboot.exe.
Make sure your downloaded firmware is not corrupt and you got the correct version of the firmware for your device, there are different ones.
Download the firmware from here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=36
I believe your file is "Blur_Version.21.11.14.titan_retaildsds.retaildsdsall.en.03", but check on it.
After you reflash, make sure you boot into recovery mode and do a factory wipe.
The firmware for this phone is split into 3 files, so make sure you flash all three of them.

Greetings from Venezuela. Just recently, I bought a new Moto G since my old S3 got severly damaged which made it unrepairable. I loved the reviews about de Moto G, but sadly since I got it I've had no luck with it.
While being connected to a WiFi connection, just looking around the celphone's settings, the phone required a system update straight off the bat. I had noticed before the update that the phone was instantly rebooting once the inactivity timer went off locking itself. Obviously after some time I did notice it by locking the phone manually (pressing the power button). I'm not that geeky or experienced in the Android field, but by doing some research on the web I've read some stuff that makes me not lose all hope on the phone, making me want to fix it.
I've tried factory resets, recoverys and nothing has worked. It has made me really frustrated not being able to fix the issue. All I've really done refering to flashing is unlocking bootloader, but still without flashing anything yet to make sure what I'm doing is the right thing to do.

I followed the inscrutions, successfully flashing stock rom. But the bug is still there since the phone keeps rebooting once the screen is locked. Still need to know if there's any fix. Thanks for the help!
A New Problem
I recently got an ~138mb OTA update, tried to install it, after downloading it, but it failed at default recovery installer, rebooting with an error message saying "Update installation unsuccessful". Hence, I tried it with a custom recovery TWRP installed in my mobile, with TWRP manager app for android (with my phone rooted obviously) So after downloading update, on giving install, it goes to TWRP recovery main menu, from there I dont know how to install the downloaded update, or where it is available to browse to... Being unsure, I rebooted it to normal boot up, but no matter what I do now, the phone after turning on in the home screen, automatically powers down(switching off) to TWRP recovery main menu, I am stuck here please help me, someone.
I dont wanna lose all my data!! Give me a suitable solution

It downloads the update file.
Reboot the device.
Goes into recovery and show me that it's installing the update. Half way on the progress bar the phone reboots.
After booting I see message which tells me that System update installation is failed. It does not give an error message or reason.
I tried installing it multiple times but same results. Any help will be appreciated.

You should be happy, i had exact same config, and had soft brick when trying to upgrade. I believe you can't do the update if you are rooted. So you must flash stock back and then update.

My phone keeps displaying that i have pending system update. What is the right way to get the update without bricking your phone?
After your update i am not going to try any workaround methods to force upgrade. But this is something that should be well explained by Motorola or Android community somewhere on internet. I think need to wait till the time more helpful resources are available.

I am currently on 22.21.19.victara_reteu.retailuall.en.EU and the update notification I am getting is for 22.121.1
I have an unlocked bootloader but the phone is not rooted.
I do not agree that OTA update doesn't work when phone has an unlocked bootloader and is rooted. The Android 5.0 update got installed on my phone when it was already rooted (I lost root access after the update).
Still looking for solution for "OTA installation failed" problem though...

So far My 5.0.1 update never got downloaded and i was not able to update the phone using Motorola update. Therefore i flashed Cyanogenmod 12.1 which has latest Android build. This way i stopped annoying alerts of system update on my phone.
I am trying to check for updates but I am not seeing the recent update that is being pushed out yet, so I was wondering if someone managed to capture the OTA file
Here are the details:
Firmware Version: MSM8960PRO_BP_23255.138.89.00R
Kernel Version: 3.4.42-gb476356 hudsoncm @ ilclbld99 # 1 Tue Aug 25 07:43:11 CDT 2015
System Version: 222.27.5.ghost_row.Retail.en.US
Build Number: LPA23.12-15.5
Pulled this off my phone: https://mega.nz/#!a4Mz2BiQ!VSxGh6g2oLviQ5yO9bhlh9-MCVBTf3GE7vzYZ3ZYvw0
But I haven't been able to apply it, even after using fastboot to flash stock system partition. All the hashes fail comparison.
All my attempts at taking this have failed as well, I even reflashed stock 5.1 from Motorola and tried. Have you tried sideloading this?

My phone won't even start now. I disabled and uninstalled xPosed and flashed the stock recovery, and restarted and it let me download and install the update. Then I check my phone and it won't start. I get the boot screen with the rotating globe, then just a black screen. Scouring the forums for a fix.
I've tried re-locking the bootloader but can't seem to get that to work now that I've moved to 5.1. The method I used previously just fails. It looked like unlocked bootloaders were failing on the update.

I do have an unlocked bootloader on my XT1053 Dev Edition, so maybe you're right, unlocked BLs can't upgrade? Damn shame. I ended up having to format the system partition and completely sideload the stock 5.1 ROM from scratch. Such a pain. I'm holding off on upgrading for now. Either going to get a new phone soon anyway or start flashing ROMs. I never felt the need to flash anything fancy on here since stock Android + Moto's tweaks + some Xposed/GravityBox magic were perfect for me, but I may have to flash something that has Stagefright built in.
I should add, at this point, I'm just glad to have a working phone. I'm no magician with this stuff, and there was a point last night where I thought I had completely bricked my phone.
Check out the link in post #7 above - it worked for me.
Guys i have nexus 6 but i am not getting any OTA since April , last time i got April security patch (7.0.0 NBD92G)
but when i check on https://developers.google.com/android/ota it shows OTA images till june so
how can i flash that OTA image ?? i have lock bootloader and is there any chance of phone brick ??
Do a Google search for sideloading ota images. It's actually pretty easy. I'm unlocked running a rom so I can't give you a step by step off the top of my head.

The instructions are on the download page for the OTA and I have pasted them below. You don't need an unlocked bootloader and there is always a chance that something could go wrong when flashing your phone but this method seems pretty safe.
To update a device using one of the OTA images below, you need the latest adb tool. You can get it from the Android SDK Platform-Tools package, which you can download here.
Don't forget to either add adb to your PATH environment variable or change into the directory containing the executable.
Also be certain that you've set up USB access for your device, as described in Run Apps on a Hardware Device.
To apply an OTA update image:
Download the appropriate update image for your device below.
Verify the checksum of the image: the OTA mechanism has a built-in validation feature, but verifying will save you some time if the file is incomplete. The last portion of the filename is the first 8 digits of its SHA-256 checksum; the full SHA-256 checksum is also shown next to the download link.
With the device powered on and USB debugging enabled, execute:
adb reboot recovery
If you're unable to use adb to reboot into recovery, you can use the key combination for your device instead, and then select the Recovery option from the bootloader menu. The device is now in recovery mode and an Android logo with red exclamation mark should appear on screen.
Hold the Power button and press Volume Up once, and a menu will appear. Select the option Apply update from ADB.
Run the following command:
adb devices
and check that your device shows up with "sideload" next to its name.
Run the following command:
adb sideload ota_file.zip
where ota_file.zip is the name of the file you have downloaded and verified.
Once the update finishes, reboot the phone by choosing Reboot system now.
For security, you should disable USB debugging when the device is not being updated.
Were you able to sideload the OTA? I tried on the 8th but got an error -- footer error. I'm on 7.1.1 and attempted to load N6F27E.
Adb sideload
I tried same method. Kept getting various errors.
Finally, I gave in. Phone needed to be cleaned out anyway. So, I used wugs.. Unlocked and rooted
I then used flashfire to go from 7.0 to 7.1.1 to 7.1.1 June.
Did not want to take chances. So just did updates in monthly order. I used the flash zip or ota option.
Everything went perfect. Done in five minutes.
Now, obviously. You can always relock and unroot w wugs. But, I left it alone. Hope this helps.

Sideloading the OTA is by far the simplest way of upgrading. You keep everything - data, apps, etc. You lose root, but that's easy to reinstall.
I'm currently on N6F26Q. Could I jump straight to June OTA or do I need to downgrade to 7.0 and then go back to 7.1.1 N6F27E?

OTAs are complete packages. You can sideload the latest one directly.
Maybe that's why I keep getting an error when trying to use Wug to update. I'll do the sideload option and see what happens. Thanks a lot.

Take a backup and then sideload N6F27H, Jul 2017. You lose nothing, you boot back into pretty much what you had before, but with security enhancements and a few minor feature improvements.
And before you do any more, read my first sentence again.
Hey, I own a Galaxy S10+ and I've noticed I get no updates at all. It keeps saying "Current software up to date" and sometimes "DM Initialization is not ready" or something. My sister owns the same phone on the same network and she gets updates. I've noticed it started happening after doing something related to ADB. I was trying to install Navigation Gestures and had to install ADB. After that, issues started arising. Any ideas?

From what I have seen if you manually update via a download from firmware science you usually just keep looking there for updated firmware then you can manually update in recovery through sd card. That's what I've been doing for the past 3 to 4 updates.

If your phone is unlocked US model, then the latest version is: G975U1UES1ASDB
1) You can try removing sim card, restart your device and then check for update...
OR
1) You can back up your phone using Samsung's backup option, then do factory reset to see what went wrong. After that restore from that backup

Resetting my phone did not work. Removing the sim did not work either.
Go to firmware science find your model s10 click on your current firmware it will show you the next firmware jump from asba, download and save to sd card, power your phone to recovery mode and flash update via sd card and repeat steps to catch up to current firmware.
