Computer specifications thread. - Off-topic

Just an off-topic post. Wondering if anybody else built their own computer on here, and if so what specs and what was the overall price? Mine is as follows:
Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 AM3+ socket motherboard. USB 3.0 slots, 6 SATA III ports, 4 RAM slots supporting up to 32GB, Award BIOS v6.
AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2Ghz - unlocked 4th core, now a Phenom X4 B50 3.2Ghz.
ASUS NVIDIA GeForce GT610 GPU, 2GB memory.
8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport 1333Mhz - overclocked to 1600Mhz.
Some crappy £20 case with a 500W power supply included.
7.1 HD Sound Card.
That's about it. Cost me £280 in total, and it gets 5.2 on the Windows Experience index (would be 6.9 if the GPU didn't let me down on Windows Aero)

This could go in here :

Well, it wasn't on the first four pages at the time of typing, and when I typed in the title absolutely nothing nearly related came up, so I thought nobody had made a thread on this subject (although that would have been quite weird, considering the amount of developers on this website)

Don't worry about him. He's just being overly critical.

I have a pretty large keyboard. Goes by the name of the Dell SK-8135. I use this for gaming, I much prefer having large keys that let you know when you have pressed them than some laptop keyboard on which the buttons will register a press if you drop a paperclip on them.

Help me find a good notebook

First, I won't buy it soon. Just looking for one to have ideia about what notebook to choose. So, being launched until end of 2013 isn't problem for me.
So, I want:
-Processor: Intel Core i5 or i7 (Ivy Bridge, if possible).
RAM: 6 to 8 Gb
HD: + or - 500 Gb, or a SSD with a big capacity.
Screen: 14 to 16 inches, maybe FullHD.
Keyboard: Not needed, but numeric keyboard is a good. A must is retro-iluminated keyboard. Maybe controls for music (Play/Pause, Backward (forgot the word!!!), Next and volume control.
Graphics Card: No need for the best, only something that can play games quite nice, as playing won't be the main use.
Weight: The less, the better.
Size: The thinest as possible.
Connectivity: 1 HDMI, 1 VGA, 3 or 4 USBs (preference for 3.0, at least 2.0), CD/DVD Reader/Recorder. Blu-Ray not needed, but optional. 1 SD/MicroSD (there is a notebook that hava Micro SD?). Don't use many others. Bluetooth not needed, but if possible, I want.
Color/Finish: Piano Black or something Grey. Suggestions accepted.
Another things I may have forgotten, please ask.
Use will be browsing, wathing movies/series, light to medium editior programs usage, gaming, songs (a lot) and, of course, Android user things.
Thanks for the help.
It will serve you well.

But well you got look for yourself, Asus K53 is the serie I have, they have them in several options, I got the better option. This one should fill your needs for sure.
sent you a PM.
I've always been partial to Toshiba. Never had any hardware related problems with them.
Here.
I have an HP, and although they aren't that reliable, their performance is outstanding, especially the dv7 series. Go for one of these, Toshibas are also extremely durable and reliable.
OK. Thanks for your help. I was just searching for ideas.

Yes there is, but I tried and failed. I can't find it. If anyone finds it then a link here would be great, but until then it's a valid thread.
And to stay on-topic (which pains me to do so), you REALLY don't want to know my PC setup! Seriously

Since you asked so nicely
It's an "e-machine" custom built thing with a dual core 2.4GHz CPU (of some make or other - I think it's an AMD) and 4GB of RAM. I pretty much use it for browsing, DLNA streaming, software development and writing music. It doesn't need massive specs as I don't game on it that much. I've got a couple of Star Wars games, but they happily run at decent res as they're years old.
It suits my needs, but is by no means a powerhouse. I'm a console gamer, but if I wasn't then my PC would be pimped to the max as I'd game on that instead. I needs my games!
Same here, got a 360 but dont bother with that all the time either. Nice media extender though...
Thanks! Now, was that so hard? It's still better than my laptop. I have a Compaq Presario CQ62 with 2GB RAM. Not sure on the rest of the specs, but it's not fast at all. But it's OK for doing daily tasks like reading news and streaming/downloading things. If i want to game i'll power up the good ol' PS3.
Some of you have already seen these, but since it applies, here's my PC. I call her Cocaine.

Only one reason not buy Google Nexus 7 !

Nexus 7 is good ! and most of people say, a lot of reasons should buy it, e.g Cheap, Quad core cpu, 1280 x 800 display (216 pixels-per-inch), and android 4.1 ! it is only apply on people who don't have tablet on hand !
but I only have one reason not buying Google Nexus 7 ! the screen is too small, I already have hp touchpad, it have 9.7" screen display, 7" it is too small if compare with 9.7" or 10.1", it is no point to spend other $248 to get other 7" tablet!
if google release 10.1" Nexus tablet, it will be different story!

I've the Hp Touchpad as well and I use it for reading mainly and ocassionally for browsing. However, I find it too heavy for reading and it isn't comfortable to hold while in bed. It's true that it runs ICS but there are still issues which probably won't be fixed. I'm seriously considering buying the Nexus 7, since I paid only £89 for the touchpad anyway.

I personally prefer reading from a self lit screen rather than having a separate source of light (small lamp attached to Kindle for ex.). Also even the newest e-ink kindle's dpi isn't perfect, the pixels forming the letters can be easily distinguished! That cannot happen with a screen with higher DPI.

This reminds me of the viewsonic gtablet I got for free, rooted it with hc and then gave away for free. It had decent hardware for how old it was, but weighed enough to kill someone if you needed to use it for self defense purposes
It wasn't "the hot thing" on the market though, so custom roms for it were rare because it'd be like putting a custom paint job on a Kia... fail.
If people buy these things and there is support in the dev community out there it could be good, but I keep hearing this voice in my head thats saying "you get what you pay for".

Inb4 Apple sues THL for making phones that look like other phones and do things other phones already do and then adds those things so their phone can do it too.
They patented copyright and patent-infingement, only Apple can duz that.

That's priceless. HTC should change their name to that.

They're not once you realize that:
A. The CPU is actually terrible
B. The screen is awful despite being 1080p.
C. The software is buggy (even their screenshots have errors in the notification tray!)
D. You get essentially ZERO support from them, and in broken English!
Are all the reviews there shills?
If they aren't then these may not be half bad if you're ok with probably noisy pictures, 3G, a 2000 mAH battery (that's terrible for a 5") and pretty much (at least, I would expect) no support.
As for shipping, I found this
