Hi there,
Just signed up to post something here as I couldn't find anything to help me online when I had a problem, My Xperia Z decided to freeze up this morning after locking itself, then it wouldn't respond to just turning it off, the Green LED was constantly on but the screen was black.
So to reboot the phone I just had to hold down the Volume Up and Power button for a few seconds, then it rebooted.
Obviously this wouldn't take people very long to figure out but I thought I'd post it up any way.
Cheers
Thanks

As with any new device, there are nearly always teething problems and I expect Sony will quickly issue an update to it's firmware as do many other manufacturers if it finds a problem....not had any trouble with mine yet, but I did only get it today......fab phone wouldn't go back to a Samsung due to their too plasticky construction....sorry Samsung !!! Free Sony headphones are pretty good too !!!

Okay Guys, I need some help overhere.
Yesterday I flashed ParanoidAndroid to my xperia T, everything working wonderfull and I made nice new clean backup in the recovery. Today I played with it a little more, added some apps from the market and browsed thrue some pages (on this forum actually). Suddenly the screen wasn't responding anymore, so I just tried to shut the phone down.
But now it is frozen with the screen alight, with shutdown menu up front. And not only does the screen not respond to anything (including the selection of shutdown, restart etc), also the buttons on the side give no respons anymore...
NOrmally I would simply remove the battery for a good reset, but duh... not possible with the Xperia T.
What to do?

Did you try to hold power button and volume up button simultaneously for 3 or 5 or 10 sec.?
This will restart your phone, like removed the battery.

Hmmm, I tried different combo's cause I expected it to be something like that. In the end I tried volume up AND volume down AND power for several seconds (who guessed).
This did the trick... I must say, it was quite annoying but is solved.
Hi Guys
Got this phone on the 27th Feb, and It has already giving me problems.
Just want to share and hope somebody has a solution.
BTW, my phone has not been rooted nor boot unlocked YET. (Thank god for that, else I might have problems if I want to send it back to Sony)
Problem: My Xperia Z screen does not seem to want to turn on. The phone state itself is ON, as I can hear phone ringing or when notifications received, But the screen stays OFF the whole time.
How it happened: Was playing a game when I believe a call comes in, and *Poof*! The screen goes dark.
Already tried:
- Hard Resetting the phone (Power + Vol Up + Vol Down)
- Have also restored the phone using Sony PC companion software. Phone is now back to original settings.
But THE SCREEN IS STILL BLACK AS NIGHT throughout the resetting and restoring!!!
Can somebody please help me out.
Warranty exchange I think...

This happened to me today. I thought it was a dead battery so I plugged it in to charge, hard resetted the phone, it displayed the battery logo and then it booted. It was 29%. I don't know why it was unresponsive.
My phone encountered the "sleep of death" twice.
It does not ring, but when you call it, there is a ringing tone.
The only way to revive is to press VolUp + Power. That will cause the phone to bootup/restart.
Not unlocked nor rooted also. Kinda worrying..
I've had my Xperia Z for 2 weeks and have been happy with it so far. However, I has cause for concern last night when I found it "dead". About an hour prior, I checked to see how much power it still had in order to decide whether to connect it to the charger. I found it still had 76% so decided that I didn't need to. Then an hour later I picked up my phone and found pressing the Power button had no response. It just had a black screen and no lights. I held down the Power button thinking it might have just powered off but also no response. I then connected the charger and waited and holding down the Power button also nothing happened. It just was dead. On previous Android phones I would try taking the battery out but of course couldn't do that with the Xperia Z. It has not been dropped at all and not been rooted so I got worried that it had died within 2 weeks of very little use. I looked online and found someone had a similar problem with an older Xperia (T or maybe U) and they managed to switch their phone back on by holding down the Power and Volume buttons. I tried this and lucky my Xperia Z came back on.
My question is, has anyone here had a similar experience? Or know what could possible have caused it. So far it's been fine today but I am somewhat concerned that it has happened and that it could well happen again. I bought it online from the Three UK website as a PAYG phone. Do you think I should contact them for a replacement or do you think this is a problem with all Xperia Z's or it's firmware.
Thank you.
Hope it's a one-off issue.. Get a replacement it were to happen a few more times again, especially since you're running unrooted on stock! You could try re flashing your firmware using seus to see if that solves your problem, if it's corruption on the firmware/nand side, especially since such sleep of death cases on the xperia z isn't common on the xperia z as of now.
it happens for android phones often
but thr s no absolute dead for xperia phones like wht happen for galaxies.
anyway if u have warranty as u know don worry and change it

Volume up+power for 10 seconds.

Yes held down Power button and Volume up until the phone responded with a vibration and then it proceeded to boot up. Yes i am on stock. Nothing modified at all. I don't know whether to be relieved it is a known issue albeit on an older model Xperia or concerned that despite this is Sony's latest flagship device they didn't fix it before release!
Hi guys,
This morning when I woke up I jumped update android wear and I've given update (fully charged battery), it has been updated me and after the previous update all applications has shut down and no longer responds.
Neither wrist gestures or touch on the screen, or pressing the button several seconds ...
Not that the screen is left in black, but this off, because I either mobile is connected.
Any remedy?
Regards.
I have the exact same problem. No solution found as of yet.

I'm just waiting for me to answer the Amazon seller who I bought it. I have sent a request for reimbursement or replacement.
Have you tried to hold down the button for a good while? The watch should produce a long vibrate (keep the button pressed) and then after that should power off.

Yes, I have held down more than 30 seconds and does nothing...
Same here. After fiddling with things for a bit, I was able to discover that my watch was actually on, and connected to my phone, and I could see the watch's storage and battery, and even grab a screenshot from the wear app, but the display itself is completely dead after the OTA. Working brilliantly one moment (never any problems with this watch), OTA installs, and BAM, display dead. Digitizer even works, I can press and hold on the display and you feel the vibration that you normally would when selecting a new face.
I should point out that I was completely stock. No root, no third party recovery. The only thing that had been done was developer options had been enabled.
I ended up opening a case with LG and sent it off today for service. But clearly something was broken with this OTA to have this happen to multiple people.
I just spoke with LG SAT and tomorrow will come for him.
He also told me that as I have only one month and seems to be a failure of the clock, they will be responsible for repair or will send me a new one.
Anyway, it seems to me a big failure. I had the watch factory complements and after updating, it was fried.
My sony xperia z1 is not turning on...it's power button was broken last month so i used fastboot to boot into system.. but suddenly it powered itself off and now i can't power it on using fastboot mode..my pc plays the sound when i connect the phone but sony flashtool doesn't recognize it..when i connect the phone to the pc red led lights up..sometimes while z1 is connected to a charger it turns it self on but after turning on it suddenly dies..please help me to fix this...sorry for bad english

Red LED = dead battery. If you can't get it to charge in fastboot mode (just leave it plugged in for a day or two), then you'll need to disassemble the phone to either replace the battery or force it to charge - the latter of which is only if you know what you're doing (Li-ons like to catch fire and explode). You should obviously fix the power button while you're in there.
There is nothing else to be said about it.
Thanx xasbo...i already figured that out my self and opened up my phone and disconnected the battery from the motherboard and kept it away for sometime and went on for the power button...i tried everything but power button seems okay..it's not a hardware issue...so i reconnected the battery and left it charge for the whole evening and voila it turned itself on with56% of battery... ..anyway thank you all for supporting me... you guys are awesome..

:good: good deal.
iirc, the power button is run through one of the flex cables, they can tear very easily and sometimes it is difficult to see. the replacement flex is cheap, just a few bucks, might be worth trying.
Okay...i'll try replacing the ribbon...thanx bro...:thumbup::thumbup:u are awesome...

Sounds like a pretty normal bootloop. Make sure you're flashing the right FTF for your specific C690x device. Start with a completely stock FTF and work up from there.

Are you trying to flash from recovery or fastboot? If the former, try the latter.
Or you can just send it into Sony for repair.
Don't blame the phone, though - you're the one that broke it. :good:
Red LED doesn't automatically mean dead battery. Reading the whole thread, You said (before opening the phone) that it would turn on own it's own, and turn back off. Your phone is soft bricked. It kept trying to boot up but since it's on a boot loop it would power on, get stuck, power off, then powers on again - hence called a boot loop. Boot loops can drain the battery which is why pressing the PWR+VOL UP was advised so you can power off the phone completely. By powering it off, you can then charge the phone up to 100% so you can work out the boot loop that you are on. I have no knowledge about actual hardware stuff like that of opening the phone, so I cannot comment on the power button that is broke. But one thing I can say is, it's easy to revive a soft bricked phone that doesn't have a broken power button. So this comment is basically me threading all the symptoms you have mentioned and explain it in the best manner I can. I have experienced lots of boot loops myself and have managed to revive my nasty Z1 which is why I am a little familiar with it's symptoms. I do hope you get the power button fixed so reviving your phone would be easy.

The device turns off - like turns off completely or it still reboots as if you are still stuck in a boot loop?
