Cache Error - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi
Im having a lot of problems with my phone, I tried to load a new ROM, and I cant!!
Im using CWM 6.0.2.8
when I boot up it says
Cant Mount Cache/recovery/command
Cant Mount Cache/recovery/log
Cant Open Cache/recovery/log
Cant Mount Cache/recovery/last_log
Cant Open Cache/recovery/last_log
when I do a factory wipe, it gets stuck on
Formatting /cache
When I try to wipe/format the cache partition, it is the same story.
When I try to install a new rom, I get
image attached. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP. Also some of my root software is corrupt.
What do I do?

I think I had same problem, wiping the cache part took quite long, but I eventually was able to install my new rom... though all my apps are still there, but at least part of the new rom is there (custom nav bar)
pretty much the same errors I got
ps: you're trying to flash cm 10.1, do you have a kernel for it ? read somewhere you shouldn't use CWM for flashing cm 10.1 with kernel ...
found it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2167381
[ known issues ]
adb doesnt work in recovery (can be fixed)
USB storage doesnt mount in recovery (can be fixed, i think)
formating data partition WILL FORMAT THE INTERNAL STORAGE (FIXED IN v02)
external SDCARD is required to take backups and flashing ROM (FIXED IN v02)
do not use this for flashing CM10.1 (u will need to use the CM kernel for that)
that's what the link says, you need CM kernel for it

[Q] [HELP] Error mounting /system & /cache in stock recovery

Guys need your attention & a consoling solution for my bricked phone, that can go in recovery & download mode. But the stock recovery mode says
--Applying multi CSC--
E:failed to mount/system(Invalid arguement)
E:failed to mount/cache(Invalid arguement)
E:cant open /cache/recovery/log
The troubled began when i added internet tweaks to build.prop.
When i reboot, phone got stuck at samsung logo.
Then when i opened cwm their i found error mounting system, & was unable to restore backups but when i used Rafael's "FORMAT ALL EXT4.ZIP" i was able to mount /system in cmw but these errors got shifted to stock recovery
now i'm able to flash zips & restore backups but of no use. still phone stuck at logo
Do i need to take my phone to Service center or any other advices?

The reason you are getting those errors is that stock recovery cannot handle ext4, that's normal.
Probably the simplest thing to do would be to follow the unbrick tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840645
thanks for specifying the Ext4 problem...
can i get back to Ext3 by flashing any zip through cmw recovery?
Well rfs is the default file system format, not ext3. If you use this version of CWM then you can go to mounts and storage > format /cache, /system and /data back to rfs. However you will obviously now have no ROM on your phone so will still need to either restore a backup or flash a zip of a ROM that includes the entire /system folder, which is most, if not all. I've never tried this technique by the way, so no guarantees here.
Also try to restore only Nandroid backups made with the same version of CWM that you are using to avoid problems.

[SOLVED] Can't format /data partition

I've tried flashing my LG 4X HD with Zaiben RC8 using TWRP but it got stuck after the LG spalsh screen. Went back to TWRP and noticed that it was showing 0MB of Internal Storage and can't mount/format the /data partition. Managed to change the recovery to CWM through TWRP's terminal but still cant format/mount it. Does any1 have any idea on how to proceed? It also doesn't appear listed in ADB...
EDIT1: Also can't mount/format /sdcard partition... I was using latest cm10.2 previous to trying to flash zaiben... :/
Update2: Managed to get it connected to ADB, but still don't know what can I do to solve this...
update3: It seems I can't get into fastboot...
Only after a few many hours I noticed that the Mounts and Storage menu in CWM 6.0.4.5 was scrollable, and the last format option in there did actually format the whole /data partition and allowed me to mount it and flash a new ROM afterwards still don't know what caused this, though.

[Q] Having some Big problems on my motorola razr i! please help.

Hey guys.
So i have this razr i with TWRP 2.8.0.0 recovery installed on my phone and my bootloader is unlocked. I have installed several diferent roms on it over time, and this time i tried to install the unofficial Cyanogenmod 11 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/razr-i/development/rom-unofficial-cyanogenmod-11-t2966855) but things went totally wrong when i formated the phone on recovery.
Here's what i did:
1- booted into recovery
2- went to the "wipe" tab
3- taped on "advanced wipe" and selected eveything (Dalvik cache/System/Cache/Data/Internal storage/Micro SDcard), then started formatting
4- after about an hour and a half it was still checking for md5... so i rebooted
5- when i rebooted i realized that everything was gone, including the rom files on the sdcard, so i passed the files from my pc again and tried to install but nothing happend.
6- now for unkown reasons all i see is:
Code:
E: Unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to recreate /data/media folder.
Updating partition details...
E: unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to mount internal storage.
E: unable to mount /data/media during GUI startup
FUll SElinux support is present.
E: unable to mount /data/media/TWRP/.twrps when trying to read settings file
E: unable to mount '/data'
MTP Enabled
So... My PC has the motorola drivers installed and i've also tried on mac (i have a Macbook pro with widows and mac os), but none of the recognize my phone so i can't use adb or anything that could help with this.
Does anyone know what to do? I just want to install stock jellybean again and then try the cm11 rom.

Yes i can, bootloader and recovery, but as i said my phone isn't recognized so adb sideload does not work.
I tried using mac because i read somewhere that you don't need drivers on there, but it didn't work either... unless i'm doing something wrong

I've experienced with similar situation getting no adb in TWRP. However, when I chose Advanced/Adb sideload, adb sideload did work for me.
PS: Maybe you can try install aother recovery.
Hey! Apparently, your phone has now all the partitions corrupt, because of that failed format. Have you tried installing a stock ROM through RSD Lite?
I once had a similar issue, solved it with a clean SBF flash.
Also, to install a new ROM, you should:
1.Boot in TWRP
2.Go to 'Settings'
3.Check 'Use rm -rf instead of formatting.'
Then, the wiping process wont take more than a couple of seconds, and should install ROM's without problems.
Hope you solve it, and sorry for my english if I made any mistakes.

Have u read the install instructions? The instructions stated that u needed to use the latest recoverys and u still use the 2.8.0.0 one.
The earlier versions have problems on some phones like the one u have now. Some do have the problem some don't. U can fix it by erasing the userdata through fastboot hopefully or by installing touchcwm (the earliest of recoverys for this device) and formatting it that way. Most of the time this fixes the problem.

i tried what you said but i still get this problem:
Code:
E; Unable to mount '/data'
E: unable to mount internal storage.
EDIT:
By the way, how do you do an SBF flash?
You have to download one from your region. You can make it to the fastboot menu? And it doesn't detect the phone?

Unable to mount storage - failed to mount /data (no such device)

I just tried to clean-install OmniROM with TWRP-3.0 on my Xperia Z1 (6903 UB). I was on CM12 nightly, but my phone went soft-bricked. ): TWRP says:
Code:
Unable to mount storage
Failed to mount /data (no such device)
Any advice? Thanks!

As the error says: your /data partition is missing. You can't wipe something that isn't there!
Try these:
1. As an experiment, in case /data is corrupt: repair /data by tapping Wipe > /data > Repair filesystem and format to ext4. I had a similar error with my phone's /cache when I was dealing with an unstable KK build, but performing these steps fixed my issue. Your situation may be different...
2. Transfer a stable LP or KK ROM into a sdcard or phone and flash it. You may also sideload or push the zip through adb if you don't have an sdcard and OS to boot to, but have a working recovery; make sure you have the correct drivers installed on your computer. Depending on the kernel, you may or may not have recovery built in to your boot.img, so flash recovery through fastboot if needed.
3. Planning to return to Sony's default ROM?: Use flashtool to restore your phone to its factory state. Find proper FTF file through XDA and flash. Guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2428319
Hope my answer is clear enough! Good luck getting this sorted out!

*SOLVED*Mounting error after wiping /data,/cache and /system via twrp on my z3c d5803

This problem has been solved by @Didgesteve
Thank you very much, Didgesteve!
For everyone who is a genius(like me), read his post.
Hi Community,
short story: my device seems kind'a bricked, because i am not able to install a rom via twrp; error: unable to mount /data /cache and /system.
What I did:
I unlocked my bootloader via the official sony method > everything worked flawlessly
I bootet my device into fastboot mode and flashed twrp onto it > everything still workes fine
I wiped /data /cache and /system according to the normal cm13.0 installation process > still finr
I installed the cm13.zip from an external sd-card > no errors
I installed the gapps.zip from the sd-card > Nothing unusual
I booted into cm13, configured it and installed some apps > works as usual
I noticed that a new version of the rom was published, so I booted into twrp > worked
I wiped /data /cache and /system > worked
I reallized, that i could flash my external sd-card, too because i wanted to install the new cm13-version via adb-sideload > now the errors came in
So i thougt retrying wiping /data /cache and /system and the same errors occured > holy sh*t
Last I tried simply installing the cm13.zip from the external sd-card > same errors
What the errors are for wiping(those for install are basically the same:
Code:
could not mount /data and unable to find crypto footer
failed to mount /data (no such device)
Unable to recreate /data/media folder
Failed to mount /system (Invalid argument)
Failed to mount /cache (Invalid argument)
Unable to mount storage
Same goes for using the official cyanogen recovery and other cyanogenmod versions.
I am also not able to find/mount it via adb shell.

Additional information:
OS: Mac OSX El Capitan and Linux Mint 17.3
Sd-Card: SanDisk Ultra 64GB micro sdxc
Phone: Sony Xperia Z3 Compact D5803 (colorrange)
My ideas for fixing this:
-manually adding the partitions via adb shell
+required: correct partiton table and adb commands
+don't now, if this would work
Hope i didn't miss anything and there is someone out there, how can help me,
yours sincerely,
Niggl
Well I followed your method up to step 8 and the point of wiping system in recovery mode. Even if you were flashing a completely different rom, you shouldn't have to touch system unless you're coming from LL to CM for the first time. Updating roms to a later version should only require a wipe of dalvik/cache. By the sound of it there are no system files for it to boot into, either that or the partition tables are corrupt.
Have you got flashtool working? Have you tried pushing a stock tft? to see if you can repair it?
There is Sony Bridge, which if it does the same as the PC version will repair the phone to stock, as long as you can still get into Flashmode.
The chances of being able to repair it back into CM are slim, I suspect you're going to have to start from scratch, get stock working then go back to CM after.
**SOLVED**
Thank you for your help!

The partition tables were(because of bull**** or something like that) corrupted(I checked it: not because of the wiping, but i will not wipe /system at an update in the future)

I can boot into recovery and fastboot/flash mode.
Xperia companion and sony bridge are both not working because of "modified software".
Flashtool worked for the stock tft.
