The only differences in specs are:
- W8 has a bit better speakers than X8!
- W8 has Walkman app! (It's gonna be gone anyway after you installed Android 2.2 and above)

They are the same so the development for x8 will be a development for w8 ás well. Which one is more developing now?

Prime HD 8--Alfs kernel

To rooting (this my way)
-Install sony companion first on computer..
And turn your phone in debugging mode,,plug your phone with the computer..
(wait until the tray icon said the driver install successfully)
-unplug the device from computer
-open superoneclick click root
-when a message "waiting for device" appeared,,plug device then choose recharge
-after this mesage appeared
(Your phone has been rooted!!
Would you like to run a test??)

No, this ROM won't work on X8.

I today found a rom named arcmini(link given below) on x10minipro android development,the rom is naa11 compatible. I wonder whether it would work on xperia x8
