Car charger for our beasts - Galaxy Note II Accessories

Has anyone found a car charger that actually charges a Note 2 in use? My experience is they just slow the discharge (most of them only put out 2 amps).

There you go.
I should also add that unless you're using the GPS and playing music or a movie at the same time, a 2 amp charger should keep it charging while on the road.

Well that was my problem. GPS and music at the same time kills it. Thanks for the link

Powergen makes a 3.1 amp charger but that's shared between 2 ports.

My 0.7A Walmart charger keeps up with simultaneous GPS, browsing, and music; while still providing a slow charge to the battery. If you're phone is dying, it's probably because it thinks it's on usb, and limits itself to 0.1A.

Car dock with USB port charger

I just bought a Capdase cardock for my Nexus S, and there are two USB ports I can use to charge it to. The first port is labeled "1A only", and the other one says "1A or 2A".
1) what do 1A and 2A mean?
2) which of the two ports will Nexus S charge better? (I don't want to ruin or short circuit my phone using a wrong port.)
thanks guys!
A = amp(s)
You should be fine with either 1 or 2 amps. If you're going to be running navigation often, 2 amps should help keep the phone from dying on long trips.
Sent from my Nexus One using Tapatalk
I don't know specifically about this phone, but it probably can't draw more than 1 amp. The 2 amp port is good for a tablet. 1A isn't enough for an iPad, for instance.
That's not entirely true. The Nexus One car dock comes with a 2 amp charger and it keeps the phone charged even with screen on and running navigation for several hours. It runs hotter than with the wall charger and, say, playing games or web surfing, but it does the job.

Well there's no "official" car dock from Samsung as far as I can tell, and as a counterpoint my 1A car charger charges the phone just fine while navigating and streaming music via Audiogalaxy for at least 8 hours...

Car charger for NOTE 2.

i bought a 3rd party 2A Car charger and it still charge my Galaxy Note 2 slow. Anyone can recommend me a good charger which u guys are using right now?

Very unlikely that will work if doing intensive stuff on the note as the charging is made for Apple products we have a long thread discussing car chargers in the Sprint forum

This is the charger that I use. I admit that I don't charge my Note II in the car very often, but the few times I've used it, it worked well.
+1 - I use this charger and it seems to charge just as fast as my AC adapter, although I've never used the phone simultaneously as its charging. Obviously i have it plugged in to the 2A side.

Very hard to beat this charger. I have a few of them to take on trips and such, in case I forget it. Fast charging... at least double to triple what I saw trying to charge off a USB port (car or PC).
Plus you can't beat the price! Just make sure it's genuine (the one on amazon is).
Just bought one of THESE 3 days ago. Works fine here.
So do any of these actually charge at 2A? Does CurrentWidget report it as 2A?
Do they significantly increase battery life while in heavy use (using satnav with screen on)?
Thanks.

Original Samsung Craddle

Hey all!
Today I got the Official Samsung Craddle. This one to be precise. http://www.smartphoneshop.nl/product/199368/123781/5076/samsung-desktop-dock-for-sii-siii-note.html
However, I noticed it charges ultra slow. It goes like 1% per 5 minutes. Does anyone else have experience with this thing for the Note 2?
Should I return it?
And if so, which dock would u suggest?
Grtz,
Dancol
Anyone?
I can't comment on that product specifically, but I have 2 USB chargers in my car both with a 2 amp output, one's a Samsung product for charging my Tab, the other is a Griffin, both will charge my phone even when using the Sat nav, at about the same rate the actual wall charger works at, so there has got to be something wrong with your unit.
The only way of knowing for sure before passing judgment, is to get a normal car charger with the 2 amp output the phone needs and compare the charging time against it and the dock you have.

1 amp will be enough to charge, but will charge much slower than a charger with a 2 amp output.

Didn't know that would pretty much reduce my charge time to 20%. Normally it goes somewhere around 1% per min but with the dock it went 1% per 5 mins!

I have the same dock and it seems to be a limitation of the dock.
I use the charger and USB cake that came with the Note 2, but it still charges slowly (with the phone screen turned off)
If I pull the cable out of the back of the dock and plug it into the phone directly, it charges sit twice as fast.
I think the dock only puts out 1 amp, even with the 2 amp charger connected to it.

4.2 amp dual usb car charger for simultaneously charging two Note 2's

"For those who are interested in car dual usb efficient charging"
I am using 4.2 amp dual usb car charger bought on eBay. Importantly, I can charge two Note 2's simultaneously where one is mostly on 100% brightness running Google navigation and slacker radio over bluetooth on at&t LTE network and other one charging while being used for light browsing, emails, calls etc. Dual charging is quick and comparable to stock AC charger.

Hope you sell lots of them.
I am not a seller, I am a technology enthusiast who regularly follows forum and few months ago when we both upgraded from S2 skyrocket and iphone 4S to Note 2, car charger issue started bothering me. I searched extensively for dual usb car charger with 2.1A + 2.1A output and narrowed down to two choices, one is sold by Kensington for ~$28 and other is the one I posted on eBay for ~$14. I ended up buying 2 from eBay so that I can have my both cars covered for cheap, whenever we are driving together. I wanted to contribute to forum by sharing this information long ago as I see everyday folks wondering about a good usb car charger, but I was just reluctant to register.

I've had mine for over a year with zero problems. But it does sound like there are QC problems, perhaps I just got lucky. I just ordered the Aleratec, it should get here today. I'm curious how it performs.

Yes. Could you please report back on your findings?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
Had a chance to test out the Aleratec. First off, it doesn't strike me as overly well made. It's not bad, just seems thrown together. There are some gaps where the plastic fits together, and it's pretty bulky. The rectangular part looks to be about 1 inch square by 2 inches long. There's a red LED that shows when the unit is getting power, but it's just stuck inside the housing so that it's hard to see in bright daylight and the whole thing glows lopsidedly at night. On the other hand, it does seem to perform roughly as advertised. I haven't tested it with a multimeter, but here's what we did.
On a 10 minute drive across town, I had my N2 plugged in with Navigation and music on. My son had his Droid DNA plugged in playing a graphics intensive game. Both phones charged a few percent in that time.
On a 30 minute drive to the next town, I had the N2 running Navigation and music playing through the internal speaker. My Nexus 10 was charging from the other port. The Note started at 86% and finished at 91. On the return trip I left my note plugged in but left music and navigation off. It started at 80% and ended at 95%. There was another N2 plugged into the second socket, but I didn't check it's stats.
So all in all it does a decent job charging two devices while they are being used heavily. I think you'd have a hard time losing charge while it was plugged in. But it looks cheap and I'm not expecting it to last a real long time (though it might, who knows.) Still, I'll probably buy another one or two for those long drives when my son's Nexus 7 is chewing through games and battery, I have latitude and music running on the phone, and there are at least a couple other devices in the car needing to stay topped off. For the price, I won't be overly disappointed if I have to replace them in a few months. Hopefully we'll have better quality options by then.
Thanks for the update. My main concern is JUST my GN2 while using GPS, streaming music from Pandora while connected via BT to my head unit. That's probably the Most electrical draw I can come up with. If it charges during all that, I'm sold.

Well, supposedly, the two outputs are largely independent. So I'd compare the performance of just my GN2 on it. On the half hour drive I was using Spotify playing through the internal speaker. But I was playing a downloaded list, not streaming data. I did have wifi enabled (I just leave it on) but not bluetooth. Navigation was on with voice directions.
We're headed on a 800 mile trip tomorrow and I can have my son play games on it while it has nav and bluetooth on, see if he can figure a way to use more power than this can output, but I won't be able to get back to you on that til at least Monday. He can also stress it with his N7 and my N10 running simultaneous games. We'll see.

I'm not fond of the reviews on that one. Also, only one of the ports is 2A+. It sounds like the other two are a bit over 1A at best. For my purposes the extra slot isn't worth the added bulk if I only get one 2A slot. But everyone's needs differ.

After using the Aleratec for over a week, I'd say it's a keeper. It's kept up with my son's N7, and with my using the GN2 as gps and mobile hotspot at the same time with sporadic phone calls at the same time. It also charged my N10 nicely. I did have one time when my Blackberry curve (work phone, ick) reported that it couldn't charge, but disconnecting it and reconnecting fixed that.
Again, this doesn't strike me as a particularly high quality or well-engineered piece of equipment, but it does seem to do what it claims. For the price, I'll be ordering a couple more.

Is there a 'best' car charger?

I've been looking at car charges lately to utilize my G2 as my main Gps. I was hoping for a dual port for added flexibility but it's not necessary. Is there a standard charger that is considered the best?

Scosche USBC202M Dual 10 Watt (2.1A) USB Car Charger
Amazon: http://amzn.com/B0077PM3KG
2.1Amps so it will charge full speed, even 2 new smartphones at once. And its got a very low profile.
Scosche seems like a brand i can trust. No issues so far.
They only thing i dont like is that its blue light is somewhat bright, noticeable during night drives. But that just might be a personal problem.
Get this Anker charger and it'll be the last one you buy for a while

It can charge your phone with ease while in GPS mode. I would avoid any charger that is 2.1 amps or states that its for iPhones in the beginning of the description if your trying to use your GPS and charge your phone at the same time
